Yamaha FSX800C Concert Cutaway - Ruby Red Reviews

I have played guitar for years as a hobby. I had a Breedlove Pursuit Dred. It sounded great but was way too bulky for me. I went with Yamaha because of their reputation. I was attracted to the FSX800C because it was concert sized and had a cutout. I bought it at Sweetwater without trying it first. I am blown away by the sound and the ease of playability. I bought the red one because it just looked so cool. I truly love this guitar!

After trying a few fenders, epis, breedloves, de Angelicos and yamahas in the $ range over the last couple of months, bought this without trying out first. I am truly astonished at how good this guitar sounds and feels. No wonder it's not in stock often.
My experience playing guitar is by no measure at a level where i can objectively comment on the pros/cons of any guitar but personally this is by far the best acoustic guitar i have played.
I am sure there are much expensive guitars out there with face melting tones and feel but for the price, one would be hard-pressed to find a competitor.
As always, the service provided by Sweetwater and its staff is impeccable.

This guitar arrived in tune and ready to go. It has an excellent tone and projection, sounding clean and bright with lots of resonance. Pretty to look at as well!

I've been eyeing this guitar for months on Sweetwater loving the looks and colors of it, I gave it a try I wanted an acoustic electric cutaway which I didn't have, it's absolutely beautiful more so in person than online the rich red color and gloss and darker sides and back, I love it so much, the sound is so good unplugged but plugged in it's incredible even better sounding. it's smaller size and very lightweight the frets are prefect no buzz no dead spots, feels so good to play, there's only one thing I need to do with it and it's to lower the action a bit, as Charlie Davis my sales engineer told me the factory set up on acoustic guitars is a bit higher action since it's easier to lower it than raise it which makes sense, everyone has different tastes with action I would say, I like it very low easier for me to play. I'm going to do it myself sanding down the bridge saddle. Charlie and everyone there are a great help and very courteous and knowledge, Sweetwater really cares for their customers,the packaging was awesome and delivery time so fast, can't beat the service here. Thank you guys.

Just opened up my late Christmas present! Absolutely beautiful Yamaha FSX800C, Ruby Red. Plays like a dream....very fast, well set-up, just needed a quick tune. I've purchased a few items over the years from Sweetwater including a Takamine GD30CE, an Epiphone AJ220SCE, a Yamaha APX500III and a couple of guitar cases but this is my first review. Wanted something in between the APX and a dreadnought and this beauty is exactly what I needed! A big shout out to Michael Morgan for he was incredibly helpful (as usual). I will be purchasing a Yamaha AG3-HC hard case very soon! Get one ready for me Michael!

Beautiful little guitar. Light, well crafted and really sounds great. Nice thinner neck, feet edges, no problems, again well made with attention to detail. The on board electronics work well and sound great, lots of options there. Tuner is spot on too. Lovely Yamaha Product. Set up fantastic by Sweetwater techs. Thank you very much.

I was considering buying a pickup to have installed in my Yamaha FG335ll that I've had since the early 70's. Of course I came to Sweetwater first. A good pickup would run me about $400, and then installation, plus I wasn't really thrilled about having surgery performed on my old friend and companion. But then I saw Ruby. She looked amazing and had outstanding features. I was a bit worried that the price... but I took and chance and I couldn't be happier. It arrived on my front porch, miraculously, within 24 hours! I've been playing it through my Roland Cube, also red and also purchased from Sweetwater. It's great live and great for recording. What I'm saying is it's great!

Just returning to play. This guitar sounds extremely smooth and as I re-learn to play, really, really hurts the tips of my left fingers, but boy is that hurt feel good. Did I mention that my new guitar color looks a lot like my 2012 Mustang GT.

Called my rep (Jared) we discussed the options available in the dollar area I wanted to spend, he suggested this, as always with his recommendations, he was spot on, . love the guitar , nice feel , beautiful sound , all around great deal , well done as always Sweetwater !!

I've been learning on an Telecaster, but I wanted an electro acoustic for its grab and go goodness and ability to go through my noisemakers and amp. Despite my being a big guy, I'm totally comfortable with the FSX's slightly smaller body. It sounds full to me. It seems well built, and I can see why people praise Yamaha.

My two favorite features are the ruby red color and the built in tuner. My circle of friends loves the red as much as I do; it makes an acoustic look exciting to an electric guitar player. In addition, The on-board tuner works so well that I rarely reach for the Polytune Clip that I bought just for it.

Great value! I also recommend the case Yamaha make for it!

Exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. Looks and sounds great. And can be played fast. The built-in tuner is also a nice touch.

Buyer BE AWARE — it's a great deal — IF (IMO) you're planning to play this only sitting down. There is ONLY ONE strap button! It's on the bottom end of the body only! This guitar looks and sound nice, but I would have passed on it if I realized this. I know you can attach a strap that has a string tie above the nut, but I don't like the idea of that or the look of it! The very nice Sweetwater sales person assured me, when I called about this, that it was fine to use the string/strap just above the nut, so I'll do that. But just in case, like me, you expect (and prefer)two strap buttons on any guitar you buy, I thought I let you know that this model has only one.

everytime I go to the brand name music stores on the outskirts of Austin Texas, I would see this guitar.
I was always drawn to it because of its lovely finish and it just plain sounded good. played it some more and thought when I get some disposible funds, I'm going to buy it. the time came, sweetwater carried it. I've NEVER seen an acoustic anything with a ruby-red stain finish. Well i just received it and it is enticing to look at and it still sounds good. I have yet to plug it in due to just enjoying its acoustic sound. Others have commented on the Value Yamaha Acoustic Guitars offer to people. This is my second Yamaha and I couldn't agree more. A good sound, great looks, It's looks say "Play Me"! and I do. Did I mention it was budget friendly too?
