Yamaha FSX800C Concert Cutaway Acoustic-electric Guitar - Natural Reviews
The Yamaha FSX800C acoustic-electric guitar stems from a long heritage of amazing FG "folk guitar" acoustic guitars and gives you incredible value at an entry-level price. The guitar's combination of premium tonewoods makes it a great value for seasoned players. Its combination of a smaller folk body, solid Sitka spruce top, and nato back and sides is responsible for the FSX800C's beautiful voice. And Yamaha's System-66 electronics take that sound onto the stage. Let your guitar-playing journey start with an amazing instrument you'll love playing for years to come — the Yamaha FSX800C folk acoustic guitar.

Pro level at a student price
I'm a pro guitarist with 55 years of gigs under my belt. I never owned an acoustic flat top guitar since I played either nylon strung or electric guitars. Got a call for a nice gig that demanded acoustic flat-top, went shopping and found the Yamaha FSX800c, played it, fell in love, bought it, took it to the gig after a pro setup (recommended), and it's become a daily player, and a standout with my country band. I found a tobacco-finished one, very pretty on stage. The electronics are excellent, the look is expensive, and it really does the job.
This Guitar Has the X Factor
I spent hours and hours playing different AEs in my local shops and fell in love with a Taylor Mini. The $800 price tag was higher than I'd hoped but it was the only guitar I didn't want to put down. I decided to try this Yamaha last second before ordering the Taylor and WOW. It instantly had the same "at home" feel in my lap and hands. The first few chords I strummed I could tell the tone and projection was leaps and bounds above anything else in the price range and a pretty close second to the Taylor. Took it home and haven't put it down in the two weeks since. I won't say that this guitar is an equal to the Taylor, but I don't feel that I sacrificed much in going with this guitar for less than half the price. It sounds so good unplugged that I've played it 90% acoustically - I would put it up against the voice of many standard acoustic guitars in this price range.
Pros:
- Fantastic tone. Full bodied and well rounded, leaning slightly toward the high end
- Great, classic aesthetic
- Good+ action out of the box, could be great with a good setup
- Very high quality build and feel, no cosmetic flaws
- Uses AA batteries instead of expensive D cells
Cons:
- No strap nut at the neck
- Would prefer a chromatic tuner for alternate tunings (though the tuner does work well)
- Personally not a fan of combo input/strap button but again, it works fine
Honestly if you're on the fence just get it
Great guitar
My first guitar, although I grew up listening to my dad and brother play, so I can recognize a good guitar. The appearance is as lovely in person as it is in the pictures, or more so. The sound is good in terms of volume and resolution. Nice and crisp. And for the price, I think it was a great deal. Would recommend.
Plays like an electric
I love this guitar. It is versatile and plays like butter.
You can’t go wrong with this guitar
Wonderful tone, perfect shape when I got it. The way sweetwater packs items, there is no way it could be damaged in shipment. I just ordered a case, the yamaha matching case. And one of the best things is dealing with sweetwater. Great people. You not just a number with them. Your a fellow musician.
Great Purchase
Great condition and a good product to buy!
Fantastic Acoustic
I was in the market for an acoustic guitar and had a budget of up to $1,500. When I arrived at my local shop, I went straight for the Taylors, Martins, Gibsons, and other high end acoustics. Although many of them were great guitars none of them spoke to me or had any "wow" factor. This Yamaha was sitting near by, and, having owned a Yamaha acoustic in the last, I decided to give it a spin. I"m glad I did. This guitar isn"t just great for the price, it"s simply just a great guitar. The build is solid, the feel is great, the electronics are awesome, and the acoustic tone is nice. Surprisingly, the acoustic tone might be the weakest part of the instrument, but it is by no means bad. I highly recommend this instrument to anyone looking to add an acoustic to their collection!
Love it.
Plays good, sounds good and came in perfect condition with no dents or scratches. Would recommend this to everyone.!
Great Acoustic / Electric Guitar
Just started playing guitar again after a 45 year break...
Decided on this guitar based on Yamaha's reputation, my Sweetwater Rep's recommendation and I wanted a guitar that is smaller in size than the classic dreadnaught. And my first guitar was a Yamaha.
This guitar is perfect for beginners or intermediate players. Has great tone, easy to play and it looks beautiful. The solid spruce top really helps bring out the tone of this guitar.
The electronics are great and really easy to use. I especially like the built in tuner.
The guitar sounds great unplugged as well.
Awesome
Best product and very best customer service I have experienced
FSX-800C
This is my first acoustic guitar. It arrived in great shape. So far I am loving it. The only thing on that I will change is the action. It seems to be a little high for me. I love the sound and it looks great.
No competition in this price range
Great sound, playability and looks. Either plugged in or by itself this guitar in this price range has no equal. Brian Froushour and the Sweetwater technicians are the best team I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Brian on the front end working to get me a great deal and the tech team with the perfect set up. I can't say enough about how professional and customer oriented Sweetwater and its staff are to there customers.
Comfortable, plays great, fantastic electronics
Yamaha guitars are great value for the money. I played at least half a dozen acoustics under $500 before settling on this, which was the one I was expecting to like the most. The body shape is very comfortable but still decently loud, and the neck has great action after a quick setup, especially for someone used to playing Strats and Teles. The electronics are easily the best I've heard in this price range - clearly better than the Ovation and Seagull guitars I've recorded with in the past. The EQ controls make it easy to get a warm and natural tone going into my interface. In a mix it's hard to tell DI from a condenser.
The unplugged sound is the only shortcoming. It sounds perfectly fine, but lacks a bit of depth and articulation compared to nicer models. Still, for $ you can do a lot worse.
Fun recording guitar
It's a fun guitar to play and it shines electronically. Good enough for recording. That's says a lot! The built-in tuner is what I use on this instrument now.
Sweetwater staff were excellent to work with and Sean and others were great answering questions about their products.
Only reason not a 5 star? Well, there's always the models that are going to beat it. (Processors really make a difference in that regard)
Nice guitar for price
This great guitar is exactly as billed. Great folk sized body ,lovely sweet tones and high range and mid range. I prefer medium-light weight strings by Martin, but light weight strings work well. My only problem is the battery connection piece. It fits poorly and many times looses contact which is trouble some when playing with friends. I had to Jerry- Rig the bracket to make reliably functional.. But again an entry level guitar is going to have some minor issues !,
For $, good buy
Great Tone For The Price
This guitar is one of the best values on the acoustic guitar market. It provides tones and features you would normally pay far more for.
Pros: Price. Great electronics with EQ and built in tuner. Full sounding tones with a punchy midrange.
Cons: The low price begins to show itself on the fretboard. My guitar came with very rough and abrasive fretboard and frets. Any string bending or vibrato came with a loud scratching sound as the string ground against the rough fretboard. One good thing to note is that this begins to go away after the guitar has been broken in and played for a few weeks.
Not a fan
Was not a huge fan of this guitar ... Tuning and tone is not what I expected and the action is very very poor ... Can't even play bar chords without absolute strain.. Not Sweetwater's fault!
