Hughes & Kettner FSM-432 MK III MIDI Footswitch for TubeMeister Amps Reviews

MIDI Board Optimized for Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister 36 Amp; Also Works with SwitchBlade, CoreBlade, and TubeMeister 36 Amps

The Hughes & Kettner FSM 432 MK III MIDI Board is optimized for the Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister 36 guitar amplifier. As it offers all functions of its predecessor (the FSM-432 MK II), however, it can also be used with the SwitchBlade, CoreBlade, and TubeMeister 36 amps. With the FSM 432 MK III, you can select presets and switch channels, as well as activate delay, boost, and modulation effects. The board gives you two 1/4" inputs to connect expression pedals or single footswitches. Both inputs are assignable for real-time remote control of any pot or switch on the GrandMeister 36.

Very Nice

By Kenneth H. from South Louisiana
Music Background: Playing guitar since 1960 - international tours with Tom Jones, Englert Humperdink, Connie Stevens

Very well put together piece of gear.
Typical for Hughs Kettner. Their gear is always tops!
I'm still experimenting with programming the different settings for the tunes we play in the groups I work with. I don't do much of anything heavily distorted, but the choruses and delays are mostly what I need and this amp does all that GREAT!
I'M HAPPY HAPPY!

Valuable option to maximize H&K amps

By Sean M. from Lubbock, Texas

I purchased the MIDI footswitch control for my H&K Black Spirit 200 head. This is an option that really maximized the versatility of the amp. The iPad app is great for adjusting and tweaking settings on the amp but was not a viable real time control when playing. The footswitch allowed me to use the app to adjust settings until I got the tone where I want it, then store the settings in one of the preset memory slots. With the footswitch control I can then select the memory preset I want for different songs.

One piece of information I couldn't find anywhere is the length of the included MIDI cable. It is a 7 pin cable to provide phantom power to the footswitch. The cable measures about 25 to 26 feet long.

Only sends 1 midi channel

By J from B

Using the midi out/thru of the black spirit sends SysEx messages and there is no way to bypass it

Must have if you play Hughes and Ketner

By Chauncy R. from OH
Music Background: Rock, metal, metal core, djent

This midi controller is a must have if you play Hughes and Ketner. I have the black spirit 200 head, the pedal controls every function the amp has. Very easy to use, I was making presets right away w/o reading directions.built like a tank, Only negative is it's bigger than I thought. I didn't have room on my pedalboard so I had to do away with a pedal and get a smaller wah wah pedal lol

Essential Addition to the Grandmeister

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Intermediate guitar player and songwriter; metal, blues, classic rock

I can't imagine using this great amp without this foot switch - it should be included. Makes the major features of the amp easily accessible even without the MIDI- 4 different channels and the boost at my feet are key

Ergonomic, intuitive, and delivers

By Joel W. from LATHROP, CA
Music Background: Composer, guitar player with home studio various musical genres

Im already very happy with how this footswitch works and I haven't even even explored all of the options. Incorporated the 4 channel switching and boost switch into my set quickly. Easy for my foot to find the buttons. Great product!

Get this for your H&K

By Randy
Music Background: full time

I bought this as a backup for the original FSM432 switch that I use with my GM40. It comes with a nice long MIDI cable, which is a proprietary 7 pin, so now I have a backup cable as well. I have over a hundred gigs on the first pedal, on which the footswitches have become intermittent, sometimes requiring a second stomp to change patches. Not fun when singing and playing! To be fair, I live in an area with sandy soil and periodic spraying with contact cleaner helps. Also I have lost three of the chrome switch caps, but this doesn't effect function. Overall, this is a nice lightweight ergonomic controller. If you are using this system and the pedal fails to respond, check for bent pins on the MIDI connectors and use a small flat screwdriver to straighten them out and you should be good to go.

Killer Footswitch

By Fly from Nashville Music City
Music Background: Rock/Metal

Great MIDI controller. No pops or cracks when switching channels, etc. This footswitch will take you just a little time to figure out how to store and save all of your signature tones, but it's a must have item. Buy it, you won't regret it

Simple Yet Sexy

By Antonio C. from Campbell, CA
Music Background: Making joyful noises since I was 6 years old. Man I'm old.

It's a footswitch. It has buttons and LEDs. It has two options for power - 7-pin MIDI or 5-pin MIDI plus wall wart. That's in case you break/lose/forget the included 7-pin male-male cable, of course, as the 7-pin cable provides power as well as MIDI control.

Nice touches: solid all-metal housing; buttons click audibly and provide physical feedback the switches are engaging/disengaging; MIDI cable port is recessed, meaning that you won't suffer the heartbreak of the head snapping off the circuit board accidentally (stupid, clumsy feet) - I would swear someone must have done this during testing, otherwise who'd have thought to protect the MIDI connection by recessing it within the housing?

Not much more to say about it, other than H&K should have made this a STANDARD part of the amp head, not just an accessory - it extends the use of the amp beyond twiddling knobs; I would weight this device as being at least 25% of the amp's usefulness...

Great stuff, nonetheless! Super pleased!

For more than just Hughes & Kettner

By Thaddaeus D. from Texas
Music Background: Professional Musician

I have used several midi boards through the years and this one is by far in the top 3 ever! It's build like a rock, small yet easy to hit buttons, and expression spots make this epic pedal even better! You can use it with a Hughes and Kettner amp or add it to your rig and program it for whatever! I would recommend this to ANYONE!
