MXR FOD Overdrive/Distortion Effects Pedal Reviews

2-channel Overdrive/Distortion Pedal, with Crunch and High Gain Channels, Individual Gain/Volume Controls, 3-way Mid-scoop Switch, and Global Tone Control

Tap into the sound of two blistering guitar amplifiers with a single pedal, with the MXR FOD Drive. MXR carefully analyzed two heavily modded guitar amplifiers: one optimized for heavily scooped high-gain tones and the other for extreme midrange punch. The result was an epic wall of guitar tone, and the FOD Drive packs that tone into a convenient stompbox. Each "amp" has its own Gain and Output controls — tweak them individually, then balance them with the Blend control just like you would on a mixing board. A global Tone control allows you to fine-tune the result to perfection. If you want to supercharge your guitar tone with the sound of a dual-amp rig, but want to keep things simple, then you need to check out the MXR FOD Drive pedal.

Tubeseque Band-Aid for a Solid State Amp

By Sweetwater Customer on November 24, 2023

this isn't just a pair of clipping diodes,
( so i wouldn't assume it would survive a sub-zero winter, in a storage unit, either )
MXR packed a lot of analog goodness into this, somewhat small-ish, box;
it's just what i needed to warm up my solid state amp....flexible, and plays nice with other pedals.

Excellent drive/overdrive pedal

All,
Yes I know the internet says this is the Dookie pedal that MXR wanted to make. The mid range switch is the star of this pedal giving you really big changes in the character of the tone. That and the blend knob really fit the bill.

A Great Distortion Pedal

By Jeff from CNY on September 30, 2021

Continually impressed with this pedal. I love blending between the two amp models, light crunch to heavy rock n roll with a lot of nice sounds in between. Notes and full chords come through nice and clear with my Quilter amp. Boost with a tube screamer for tight, thrashy metal.

MXR really knocked it out of the park with the Dookie Drives and FOD (essentially the Dookie Drive v4). Can't wait to see what else they come out with.

One pedal gets you many crunck & overdrive sounds

FOD drive is one excellent Pedal! This MXR
pedal give you plenty of adjustment over the sounds
of both the crunch & overdrive. For the price, you
won't get better sounds from your paying much
more with other manufactured pedals!!! The MXR team hit a home run with the FOD drive

Basically the Dookie Drive...

By Jonathan Hefner from MURFREESBORO, TN on February 22, 2021

This is a very good distortion pedal. It can get a bit fizzy on the high end on some amps with crappy speakers, but you can get a lot of versatile sound out of this pedal overall. I like it, and it will be staying on my board.

This pedal is basically the unbranded version of the Dookie Drive, and has an extra mid control to boost mids, as opposed to the Dookie Drives push button "scoop" feature for mids.

MXR FOD Drive

My amazing fiancé bought me one of these for Christmas & I am absolutely blown away. I love & collect MIAB pedals & this is without a doubt not only my favorite Marshall in a box pedal but now one of my favorite distortion units in my collection. You can achieve several different Marshall amps (jcm800 being my favorite) with this one pedal saving me thousands of dollars. This is definitely not going back to Sweetwater & will never leave my board.

This pedal rules.

I've got a lot of overdrive and distortion pedals. I mean, a whole lot. Probably something like 20. Sometimes, late at night when I'm lonely, I'll impulse buy a pedal or three from Sweetwater because (1) I love the customer service and (2) I know I can send any of them back if they suck. This one isn't going back. It's going on my board. It's great. Versatile and fun and inspiring. One of those pedals that just makes you wanna play guitar all day. I've been playing a Les Paul and this pedal through my Showman Reverb and it basically turns it into a cranked Marshall. IT RIPS. And cleans up nicely with the volume control. Apparently it's a modified Dookie Drive, but I don't know much about that. What I do know is I'm happy I bought this pedal. So there you go. Give it a shot, it's worth it.
