Love this thing...
Nice sounds, sensitive pads, logical controls and layout, lengthy battery life, speaker sounds surprisingly good. Can't wait to record with it.
Awesome but wish it had better sounds or none at all
I bought this because I didn't like using an old square grid pad controller for drum pads and wanted something that was a little easier to play. The layout is great and took only a few minutes of practice to get the hang of it. Watched one of the lesson videos and that was all it took to start getting the hang of playing hi-hat, snare, and bass drum parts with one hand, along with the open hi-hat and crash cymbal. The pads are sensitive enough that it is easy to trigger each one. Shows up as an audio interface and as a midi controller without having to do anything extra. Works instantly with Mainstage. The sounds aren't that great (they sound thin to me) so I have it setup as a midi controller with the USB audio getting layered underneath it. Adjusting the settings is rather slow so it would be better to have a simple app to setup the unit rather than the voice and setting numbers. This would be amazing if it were just a midi controller for half the price or so. If the sounds were better it would be a 5 even without the app. Overall I'm super happy with it but I would rather have the 8 pads from the FGDP-50 and just a midi controller if it were half the price. And I don't like that I can't turn off the midi program change messages. That's nitpicking, isn't it.
