Good guitar for a beginner or long time player

By Phillip Spradlin from Salyersville, KY on November 24, 2023

Bought for a guitar to take out anywhere instead of my more expensive guitars and was blown away at sound, feel and quality. A buddy of mine had the 830 in rosewood and he loves it. Let a friend borrow it to try and see how he liked it before he bought one and he had to have it and I couldn't say no cause it was used at Church to bring glory to the Lord almighty.

Unbeatable Value!

While I buy almost all my gear and guitars from Sweetwater, I had got this one a while back through another vendor in Black. I've owned high end Taylors 815CE. I have a Gibson SJ200 etc. But I will tell you for the price point these guitars are absolutely unbeatable. They sound and play fantastic. I had initially bought mine as part of an Elvis show that I would use as more or less a prop guitar. I tricked it out to look like Elvis Gibson Dove. I deliberately purchased this because I'm a player and I don't like terrible sounding instruments. The Epiphones and other brands at the same price point weren't even close to this. But there are newer lines of Epi's out there inspired by Gibson line that may be much better. But I tell you these guitars are the best value there is. I put an Anthem pickup in mine and it just sounds and plays awesome. When you don't feel like you need to drop it to go play the $5000 guitar that is saying something. For beginner or pro it doesn't matter the Yamaha FG820 can dish it out with the best of them. You can't lose.

Well, after receiving my Yamaha FG820, I'm totally blown away by it !
I have owned, and do own many guitars Martins,Taylors,Gretsch,IBanez,Epiphone, etc.etc.etc
And I have to say this about the Yamaha FG820:
If you are looking for an Acoustic Guitar that has that sound of a Martin D18, but can't come up with that kind of dough,
IMHO, The YAMAHA FG820 is the Next Best Thing at about 1/10th the Price !
BUY IT NOW ! Probably the Greatest Value in A GREAT SOUNDING ACOUSTIC GUITAR !
Oh, yeah I also own Yamaha FS800,FG800,FS830,FG830 ans LL16D !

Visually impressive for the price. Tone and volume is unbelievable for this price point. The playability and action is great straight from the box. Highly recommend for any level guitar player.

I couldn't be more happy with the purchase of the Yamaha FG820. The sound is amazing at this price point and having compared it to several guitars in the $ range, I would still chose the Yamaha every time.

Amazing value

I just bought this guitar for my daughter. Problem is, I can't put it down, and I own a Taylor! This guitar has blown me away for the money paid. I wasn't expecting that much. I figured how much can a guitar that only costs a couple hundred bucks really impress me? Well, I can tell you it impressed me greatly. The guitar is quality through and through, and plays and sounds just as good as guitars that cost five times as much. The fit and finish are excellent, the playability is very good and the sound is great, as well.

Sweetwater did a great job packing the guitar for a safe journey from the midwest to the east coast. All I had to do was unpack the guitar, tune it up to standard tuning and start playing. The guitar has stayed in tune since (which is impressive considering that it made a long cold trip) and is just a pure joy to play. I hope my daughter decides to stick with it and play it a lot, but if she doesn't, guess who's claiming it?!

Work to be done

After a lot of work: Changed the strings, truss rod adjustment, saddle adjustment, I was able to get it sounding pretty good and playing much better. Not a bad guitar after all.

Yamaha FG820NT

By Tommy F Moss from Ft. Madison,Iowa on October 11, 2022 Music Background: I pretty well,as a heart patient, just play at home mostly now !

It appears to be a very well made guitar.I has great resonance and finish.Although it was returned for 2 scratches on the body,I would not hesitate to buy another Yamaha FG820.As luck would have it there were no more FG820 for a replacement so I moved up to the Yamaha FG830,which I am yet to receive.Sweetwater has been great in the handling of the situation and replacement. They are the best!

Not what they used to be.

By Kerry Guillory from Arabi, LA on February 12, 2024

My first acoustic guitar was a Yamaha. I loved it. It had a great tone and played well. It was not an expensive guitar. I have a Martin but wanted something less expensive that I could drag around with me like I did my first guitar without worrying about it getting knocked around. I thought since this guitar had high ratings everywhere, it would be a good choice.

I don't like the fretboard. It's smooth but looks cheap. I could live with that but it has very thin frets. I don't like that at all. the nut and bridge are cheap plastic. The guitar sounds cheap. Light in tone, almost like a toy guitar.
