Fulltone Full-Drive 2 V2 Overdrive Pedal with Boost Reviews

Overdrive/Boost Guitar Effects Pedal

Achieve natural, tubelike drive with the Full-Drive 2 V2. Loaded with the coveted JRC4558 chip and Fulltone’s 1990s Full-Drive circuit, this pedal juices your amp with classic overdriven textures. One footswitch places the pedal in and out of your effects chain, while a second switches between overdrive channels 1 and 2, each with individually adjustable Volume and Drive knobs. But if you think the Full-Drive 2 V2 limits you to these two options, you’re mistaken. Call up everything from vintage overdriven warmth to ’90s-style asymmetrical clipping using twin toggle switches. Fine-tune your tone by tweaking the Full-Drive 2’s variable 9–18-volt operation. Searching for a multifaceted dirt box? Give the Full-Drive 2 V2 from Sweetwater a test drive — you won’t be disappointed.

Sooooo Encouraging!

By Sweetwater Customer from New York on February 2, 2024 Music Background: Semi pro Guitar and Bass for 40+ years

The fact that Mike and Jackson have teamed up is AWESOME! This is a great day for we musicians who benefit from the hard work these guys do and the products they produce - well aiding us in the never ending pursuit of tone!
I have probably 10 of Mike's pedals in my arsenal - every one a keeper and a winner; the possibility that his pedals might have well been missing from the marketplace - and thus our boards yielded a very sad day.
Blessings and great success to this team, and looking forward to "things to come"! (plus the legacy of course!)

Versatile and great sounding

By Wes from Colorado on July 19, 2021

I have been a fan of Fulltone for a long time and use a Fulltone Fat Boost in my bass rig to warm up the sound of my class D amp. Many of the guitarists I work with hove a Fulltone Full drive. I bought this as a gift for my son, and he loves it!

finally got my Synergy all tube rig going, revisted this drive again...

By Paul from N of Dallas on April 20, 2021 Music Background: heavy fusion

Wow, this puppy really was meant for tube amps, I never realized that before. It sounds so much better into a tube rig, even more impressed by its tones and build quality, very quiet, multi versatile adjustments, makes everything sound better, had no idea tubes would make it come alive. Now one of my fav drives, very underrated and priced really low. I dig it. Now the adjustments can really be heard and the boost channel is not so overwhelming to the volume it really sounds great. i have a lot more costly drives that don't sound as good or as quiet as this one. Now I know why Trower uses Fulltone. It tightens up and clarifies my tones much more than a basic tubescreamer without reducing the bandwidth and chopping the bass, click the option switches around there are a lot of cool tones in here.

Incredible!

This Fulldrive is perfect for me. I play a strat and tele through a Deluxe Reverb. The vintage TS tone is spot-on vintage and the other toggles positions provide great versatility. There isn't one setting I don't like. The controls have nice tapers, unlike some other pedals. Can't beat the lead boost with independent volume. Sounds great on 9v or 18v. I prefer the latter, but that's just me.

Anyway, I'm very satisfied with the Fulldrive 2v2!

impressive quality, optioned TS type OD

By Paul from Dallas on February 12, 2020

Well Fuller has done it again for me. This is just the best overtly modified TS type circuit on the planet, so many options and all of them musically useful, rich, thick and indeed "Full-Tone". Out of the box it is just impressive detail to quality with the most stiff hard to turn quality pots I think I have ever seen. No pop charging switching and 18v capable, what a hell of a price on this puppy for a mere $150. Less cost than a real TS and a level of quality, tone and options that are just peerless. My new model mini Deja Vibe into this and the rest of my drive/gain section is just a touch of Robin Trower heaven and stacks well w everything. Robin has been using Fulltone for ages and this is why. Mike Fuller may get a rap for having an attitude, but really his products are just above the top shelf, the attention to detail and quality do not go unappreciated. And really, haven't we all met that guitar player dude you want to "El Kabong"?? Thank you Mike another great pedal!

Nice Improvement

I"ve been using the previous blue box version of this pedal for 9-10 years now and know it well. When I saw the new V2, the changes seemed like just what I needed so I gave it a try and have been very pleased. The new V2 is that much more versatile and the additional tonal options sound great and are really useful. The new volume control on the Drive 2 side really justifies the upgrade. To my ears it sounds richer than the previous while retaining much of the original Tube Screamer character. You really can get a lovely Dumble like tone with the Wide switch setting and some tweaking. Really worth the upgrade!

First Class Tone For My Cutlass

By Benjamin Westover from Pensacola, FL on February 13, 2019 Music Background: Amateur

I plugged into it and plugged it into my Swart and couldn't stop grinning. I think Mr. Fuller's vibe and tremolo pedals are about the best there is and are all I use on my main board; I've just recently been experimenting with his ODs. Ugh. Sweet caress! She's a beauty. There is a lot of options in this one and it's built to last for years to come. Build and sound quality are excellent. 9-18v and about as controls that never let you feel like you can't get what you want. This one's a keeper!

Great Pedal

I've owned a FD2 for years and love it. Version 2 is much more versatile yet still has that great original tone. Thanks!

Fulltone does it again !

By Mike Abbs from New Jersey on August 25, 2018 Music Background: Part Time Musisican

I have had this pedal three days. It took me a few hours to figure out how to use the separate channels but when I did.... BAM ! I have two Marshall DSL amps which I have used it with so far. It seem to be warmer and fatter than the previous mosfet version. The tone knob on this one is neutral at maybe just before 12:00 which in my opinion, is a good thing. It seems to have quite a bit more available gain than the mosfet as well. CompCut mode is massive and fatter. I have gone through all the combinations of the switches and have decided for my style and amp setups, vintage mode on the left switch and standard on the right switch work best for me. All the other modes are definitely good to have. I have a higher gain setting and a lower volume setting on drive 2 and this seems to make the transition seamless as far as tone and amount of punch. Just more gain and slight volume boost or perceived volume boost anyway. I have other kinds of amps I have to try this pedal with and perhaps some of the other modes will come in handy. My overall opinion... If you like the Blue Mosfet version, you will love this version.

Fantastic Overdrive

By Blake Stewart from California on August 24, 2018

I am blown away by the sounds I was getting out of this pedal. I played it through my 68 Custom Vibrolux and my Vox AC-15 (Wet/Dry) with a Tele. Every setting sounds fantastic and there are so many different combinations with the switches. It's not at all overwhelming as all of the combos sound great. The pedal has a ton of volume, it is touch sensitive, cleans up nicely with the volume knob, and just makes my amps sound better. It gets thick but not dark like the Fulldrive 3 and has plenty of gain. It's got a clear characteristic that really just enhances your sound. Great for chunky chords or for a great lead solo. You can even use it as a boost with the gain turned down. The second channel is not independent but when you kick it in it just gooses your sound. It's the sound in my head. Solid enclosure and fantastic build. Don't be afraid to turn it up! That's where it really shines. Bravo to Fulltone! Also, Chris Ishak is the man! He got this pedal to me in two days! If you want to feel like a valued customer and treated like a friend, give Chris a call. He will help you out.
