Stereo Reverb Pedal with 32 Algorithms, Tap Tempo, Preset Storage, Infinite Mode, and Cab Sim

The Empress Reverb is the crown jewel of spatial effects pedals. Spanning roughly 32 different reverb algorithms, this pedal renders classic sounds like hall, plate, and spring reverb in immaculate hi-fidelity (especially when run in stereo). Where it really shines, however, is via a wide arsenal of modern ’verbs that range from washy and ambient to downright experimental — there’s sparkle octave reverb, ambient swell, lo-fi, and a ghost mode, just to name a few. Parameters are infinitely tweakable with knobs for output, mix, decay, and high/low EQ, plus two variable “Thing” knobs that change function depending on the mode. The result is limitless but immaculately rendered reverb options for modern players. But don’t worry: the Empress allows up to 35 presets, so no matter how crazy your settings get, you can always find your way back via instant recall!

Great reverb

By NS

I can definitely say this is one great reverb pedal. But I have to also comment on a few things that knock off a star.
1. Most of the reverbs in this unit are truly useful and sound good. But, I do feel like some of the basics are pretty weak. The springs are just ok, the room and halls are also weak in my opinion. It's not that they sound bad but to me do not sound authentic. However the delay, modulation, pitched, and swells are fantastic and I really dig the ghost and beer for more special effect purposes.
2. The EQ is a must and as you play with patches, you should not be afraid of using drastic settings. Bass rolled all the way off, certain parameters maxed out, etc. Everything at noon sounds ok, everything can sound much better with tweaking.
3. At the given price, midi should have been built in and not a separate module.
4. The looper functionality is a little finicky but does work intuitively.
5. IR sounds good to me. It's useful for guitars but less so for synths in my opinion. Turning that on and off requires menu diving.

Overall, I'm not dissatisfied with this unit but when pedals start costing as much as instruments, the expectations are higher and thus more critical review.

Amazing so far...

By William A. from Cincinnati, OH

...and I don't see that opinion changing. I've owned an Empress tape delay pedal for probably 15 years and it's never left my board. With so many cool pedals and companies to explore out there I don't often buy more than one per brand so I explored lots of reverbs but, based on demos and my other experience with Empress I went for this one and I'm not disappointed. Spent hours just exploring it out of the box and had a blast. If you're in the market for a high end reverb this belongs on your short list for consideration.

Spectacular Performance with Synth

By Caleb B. from MI

Sounds absolutely stunning with my Moog Subsequent 37. Lush, studio-quality reverb that will be used on all of my future recordings. Highly recommend for synth players. Probably incredible with guitar, too!

One of the Best for Line Level

By Sweetwater Customer

Super wide stereo image, handles very hot input signals fine. One thing to be aware of with this pedal is that the bass control should typically be kept pretty low. The reverbs here are super bassy otherwise. I also wish that the output knob was replaced with another dedicated parameter which would be far more useful in the majority of setups whether they are guitar or keys.
When I first tried this pedal I wasn't feeling it and was sure I was going to sell it, but over time I've grown to prefer it over many other reverbs. It just takes a little time to dial in. Honestly once the EQ controls are set correctly for the input source, it sits in a mix really nicely. Many of the modes remind me of older 70's and 80's rack units which is no bad thing either. Definitely worth a try!

No power cord

By Sweetwater Customer

Pretty upsetting to see that it does not come with its own power source.

Yet another great pedal from Empress. This reverb sounds amazing and Empress does a great job of offering sound examples on their website. This helps in my decision to buy.

Wow!

By Malcolm from New Hampshire
Music Background: I have been playing guitar for years for enjoyment and relaxation.

I am still getting acquainted with this pedal - there is a LOT here, but it is easy to get going with. The sound is amazing; my wife came in to tell me how cool the sound was (she didn't realize I was playing it). I love it already and can only imagine it getting better with experience. Quite inspiring.

Worth it

By Sweetwater Customer

I got this after looking at a few options. I almost changed my mind at the last minute for the Big Sky but for me I really like the SD card options as I can make backups and do updates. In addition to the SD card thing there is a loop recording option , SD card required. I don't use the loop because I already have a loop pedal that's real nice. The Empress Reverb's sounds are cool, it's a box of sounds. I like having the option to press a button while playing guitar and make my guitar sound change. There are lots of options for reverb, it seems there is one out there for everyone but this one works for me.

What a Great Reverb Pedal

By Aaron M. from Pinckney, MI
Music Background: 5 years

I'm an advancing beginner and wanted to get a quality reverb pedal that I wouldn't ever need to replace/grow out of. I ended up buying the Empress Reverb and I think it's fantastic. You can find pro reviews going over all the features so I won't go into too much detail. I'll just say it sounds incredible right out of the box and the different parameters let you tweak to get any sound you want. It does your basic reverbs like hall/plate/room really well and it also has a ton of weirder options for more ambient players. It's easy to use and doesn't require a bunch of menu diving. I'd recommend keeping the book handy to remember what Thing 1 & 2 do since it's dependent on whatever reverb you have selected. I'd also like to say that Empress has an amazing site for their products where they demo all the different engines and what settings tweaks can do for your sound. I'd encourage anyone on the fence to check it out because it's a great demo page as well as a resource after you own the pedal. All in all, awesome pedal, 100% recommend.

Outstanding

By Alex

The tones for the reverbs are outstanding. Been in love with the hall reverb which just sounds perfect to me. There's other cool features I don't see mentioned much like a looper! It really is a huge bang for your buck pedal, highly recommend it and I'll be spreading the Empress gospel

I replaced my BigSky with the Empress Reverb

By Chris from Bartley
Music Background: just for fun...bar bands, home studio and help friends with tracks

The Reverb is the awesome for keys and synths. Sounds great out of the box and also allows you to dive deep into programming. All of the algorithms sound great and very usable...even the weird ones. EQ knobs and an output knob are very handy to dial in your sound. And real stereo inputs and outputs...none of this costly TRS patch-cable nonsense. I use the plate or lo-fi on pianos. The spring sounds great with EP's. Delay + Reverb synced to midi is super groovy. Pair this with an Empress EchoSystem and you will have a flexible synth pedalboard that always keep the inspiration flowing. I also use the Empress Phaser and two Compressor mkIIs. Empress effects make my Nords, Moogs, Prophets, Obies and Oldies (clav and wurli) sound better. Sorry if I ramble like a fanboy but glad to see they are now available at Sweetwater.
