TC Electronic El Cambo Overdrive Pedal Reviews

Overdrive Effects Pedal with Drive, Level, and Tone Controls

The vintage-style, all-analog El Cambo draws inspiration from the green effects pedals of decades past, giving you unbelievable tonal flexibility. Set the 3-knob interface just right, and El Cambo’s overdrive circuit can achieve anything from a barely there push for blues phrases to screaming solos and gritty lead tones. When you kick it on, you’ll notice that El Cambo’s drive and level controls feel instantly familiar. The tone control fattens up your sound without overwhelming the mix with an all-out midrange assault. Here at Sweetwater, we especially appreciate the durable metal housing and true bypass switching that leaves the signal untouched when the pedal is not in use. And best of all, El Cambo runs on a 9-volt battery or DC power. Is your tone feeling grounded lately? Liftoff with the TC Electronic El Cambo and prepare to take your tone to new heights!

Changed me for the better

By derron lindsey from topeka, KS on May 5, 2023 Music Background: Over 40 years of gigging live in country style bands. Retired Army, and love tone!!

This pedal is the single best pedal I've owned in years. I play all country styles, plus songs we all do in cover bands, to include SRV. The name of the pedal leads you to believe it's a one trick artisgr sound , but oh no it's doing it all easily. The gain is off, the volume is always there when it's off, plus you have the tone knob that creates all other sounds. Add gain, roll the guitar volume off, and your playing EC, SRV, Skyward, all kinds of times, plus the gain maxed out, your still in the " clarity" of the pedals sounds. It's truly more of the F series amp than a pedal. It's like having the 60s and 70s plus the speakers almost in one unit. It's also not a fuzz copy.. definitely a huge plus for me.

Perfect amount of distortion!

By Cesar Zola from CALIFORNIA on December 22, 2021

This is becoming my favorite pedal, it gives me the perfect amount of distortion, and you can mess with it to play different kinds of genres from Jazz, Blues and Hard Rock. The distortion is also pretty clean, sounds even nicer when you run it with a delay for some soft soloing.

Tube Screamer without as much scream

By Jason Holland from KANSAS CITY, MO on March 1, 2023

Not the greatest overdrive, but it has its qualities. It can scream some tubes, if that's your sound, but it's a little treble-y, leans on the high end quite a bit. With an EQ pedal you can crank up the mids to even it out. Not a bad little pedal for the price. I would say I prefer the Mojomojo and/or the Cinders over this, but I'm happy with it.
