This Is The One!!!

By Ross from Texas

I was looking for an always-on comp to add some mojo to my DI guitar sound. This pedal did exactly that. Sweetens clean, overdriven and everything in between tones. Amazing pick attack. Love it!! Just what I was looking for.

Improves Acoustic Guitar Sound

By Jim L. from Carrollton, GA

I purchased this pedal and have been using it for two years now. It is mandatory on my pedal board when playing. My acoustic sound just improves when it is on and the sustain is fantastic. If your an acoustic player give it a try you won't be disappointed.

perfect

By Eric L. from Lowell, IN
Music Background: pro player for 50 yrs

The EGO mini by Wampler is the perfect final addition to my pedal board. Most of my performing tones are the clean/edge of breakup variety and this compressor exels at complimenting that approach. It's easy to dial in and the blend control seems to be the key. Thank you Brian, thank Sweetwater

Just what I needed

By Chris from KC

It fattened out my sound nicely and added some sustain. That coupled with the small footprint makes this a great addition to my pedal board.

Professor Compressor

By Sweetwater Customer from CT
Music Background: Songwriter/Musician/Producer

A great-sounding compressor built to last a lifetime with many nuanced settings to achieve any sound you want. The switch is very loud when you stomp on it. It's not acceptable in a recording studio setting with live mics.

Finally, One I Like

By Sweetwater Customer

I have tried a few other compressor pedals but have always struggled to find useful settings for them. Generally, I find they have too much of a negative impact on my dynamics and the way I play. Recently, while listening closely to how my guitar soloing was struggling in our band's live mix, it occurred to me that using a compressor as a boost might be the solution. After checking out several reviews of the Wampler Mini Ego, I decided to give it a try. Good choice! Set carefully, it takes my soloing from just being a bit louder to actually standing out. It gives my solos the volume boost I need but it also adds clarity so that my solos now sit in the mix correctly. I have no idea why the Mini Ego sounds better than some of the other compressor pedals that I've tried but it does, at least for me. This has been a great addition to my pedal board.

Top notch compressor in a mini

By Craig from Los Angeles, California
Music Background: Studio guitarist

Wampler makes great stuff. I needed a mini compressor with a blend control, this fit the bill. It can do everything from open and transparent to Dyna Comp squish. Highly recommend.

Great as a boost too!

By William from Eastern Shore
Music Background: Semi pro

I got this pedal because I needed some comp on my board. Its small size made it a no brainer. But, after watching Danish Pete use this very pedal as a boost! Oh my! Set this thing with little comp and crank the clean blend. Use the volume to set level of gain. Unreal. You could use it as an always-on pedal. But I like to hit it and quit it! No, it dosnt have a momentary. Just latch. It is like having a boost pedal with all types of options on your boosted signal. Brilliant!

I love it. It makes my sound tighter, especially having it at the end of my pedal chain.

Great Compressor!

By Harry O. from Houston, TX
Music Background: Over fifty years of performing, touring, recording, and teaching.

Wampler never disappoints, Sweetwater never disappoints. After speaking to Erik Molenar, my trusted advisor, he recommended this pedal. Having already bought a number of Wampler pedals through Sweetwater, I knew he was on the right track. The pedal performs flawlessly, it's quiet, and absolutely enhances my live rig pedalboard. Job well done yet again!

Not for me

By Dan from Ritchie
Music Background: Long-time amateur rock n roller

I can't say it's the fault of the compressor. As soon as I turned it on, with dials about half way up, I immediately heard a lot more noise in my signal chain. The guitar volume was fairly low as well. From what I've read, this is really just the compressor doing it's job, as it will raise the level of the noise floor, and reduce the level of louder sounds. With level, sustain, and blend turned lower, the noise floor didn't raise noticeably, but I wasn't able to really notice much difference in compression of the signal either. I really would like to try a compressor that doesn't compress signal below a certain level, ie, leaves the noise floor where it is. Also, the on/off switch made a loud popping noise through my amp. I'm finding this very common in pedals with this type of hard switch, and will probably need to get a switcher with silent switching to run those pedals through. Again, not really the fault of this pedal as they don't claim silent switching. In the end this just wasn't for me.

Nice clean

By Pete from Central mass

This is a great clean tone for me I got it set up on the "smooth overtones" setting with a caverns v2 and it's smoooth.i tried it with a couple dist pedals and it plays good with the rat as far as I can see but I mainly just got it for the cleans,it's a quality little pedal and seems pretty quite too I'm not a compressor expert but it's a lot quiter than a much cheaper one I tried so too me it's great

Performs as advertised then some.

By Rex B. from LOS GATOS, CA

Wow, talk about a clean signal. Brings out sonic nuances, works well as a volume boost. The gain is gradual and controllable.
I was so happy with it a bought the Tumus Overdrive to put behind it. In combination I am getting a wonderful tone the has taken me a significant step closer to my ultimate signature sound. Some of the best pedal money I have ever spent.

My guitars are singingand my ears much happier.
Having placed the Mini Ego behind my TC Electronics tuner which has a signal buffer, I have gained control of my out of control pedals. Super happy with the volume control and tone shaping abilities. Get one!

DYNAMIC compressor abilities

By Sweetwater Customer

I prefer to not use pedals, but when playing at lower volumes the break-up sound and the compression feel is missed. Over the years, I've heard/read it suggested that, other than frequently used country/funk sounds, one could use a compressor pedal at very low settings to make up for missed cranked-amp compression feel and bloom. Skeptical of this idea and also afraid of loosing the dynamics that I am constantly trying to monitor and improve upon in my playing, I have definitely stayed away from compressors. My thinking is: I have enough trouble trying to play with good dynamics without fighting a compressor too. Why would I add an obstacle?

I decided to give this one a try beacause:
1.) it has a blend control
and
2.) it is a mini pedal.

I'm glad that I did. This thing really works for me just like I wanted it too. I keep the sustain set very low. The attack and tone switches are not in use. The volume is set to unity. This allows me to get that hint of compression and bloom I'm missing. As for dynamics, the blend control allows my dynamics (or unfortunately sometimes lack there of) to shine through as I continue to monitor and develop this skill.

I pair this with an overdrive and am very happy with the results. My amp sounds and feels like it is cranked even though it's not. Now it's fun to play at lower volumes. It doesn't hurt to mention that the people I live with as well as my clients/employers appreciate and respect that I can control my sound and play at lower volumes when necessary. When I am able to play a higher volumes: I just turn it off. Pretty convenient, I say. Thanks Wampler and Sweetwater!
Hope this helps! Cheers!

Transparent and Noiseless

By Mustafa I.

I have bought one in the past, regretted selling it, so bought one again. Compressor pedals for me are pedal you question the need when you have it but feel their absence when you remove them from the board... especially when playing through high headroom amps. I have tried many different compressor pedals and Ego Mini is the most transparent and noise-free among all (given you set it up with the right blend and just enough compression).

Special thanks to Sweetwater and my sales rep for their great help during the purchase.

Always On, Always Good

By Samuel W. from Alto, MI

This is a fantastic small footprint compressor that has replaced my CS-3. It sounds really good without sucking the original tone or altering it too much. Easy to dial in and the blend knob is the best, every pedal should have a blend control in my opinion!

Easy to use and to get the results you're looking for!

By David from New Orleans, La

I am newer to compression and I have to say that I am not dissatisfied in anyway. The Ego mini is small in size but makes up for it with it's feature set. I find that the ego adds compression as subtlely or as aggressive as you want it to and the sustain knob tapers very well. I'd recommend it to anyone playing worship.

Never thought a compressor pedal would be one of my favorites.

By Sweetwater Customer

I was on the fence regarding getting a compression pedal or the longest time. Now, this is an always on pedal for me. If you play clean tones a fair amount, you'll love this thing. One of my absolute favorite pedal purchases.

My favorite compressor pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

The blend knob is perfect for using it as an always on pedal. Being a mini also helps save room for pedals that need to be turned on and off a lot. I've tried a bunch of comp pedals and this one is a keeper.

Wampler Ego

By Donald M. from Independence, KY
Music Background: Pro musician/writer 5 decades

Just a must have for any guitarist...put this at the head of your pedal chain..you will find very quickly that your whole rig will just sound better...for me it's COMPRESSOR/WAH/2 OVER DRIVES/CHORUS/REVER/DELAY/LOOPER/OUT TO DELUXE REVERB OR TWIN...your tone will have a vast improvement...especially your clean tone...more clarity..more volume...more balance...much improved sustain...I know some people are going to say they don't need it...some of my friends just crank up their Marshall's and say "that's all I need" and for them that's right...however if you are a discerning player you'll want a compressor...me, I'm a B-3 guy/keyboardist...but i seen a few things and learned a few things in 5 decades of playing...one of them was GET A COMPRESSOR...I have several Wampler pedals..I like the quality of the build..

Mini just as good as the full size

By Eric O. from VA, USA
Music Background: 45+years of tone chasing

I have been a Wampler fan for years now. I have had the original Ego on multiple boards over the years. Building a new board I wanted more real estate space. The mini Ego was a no brainer. I have tried just about every compressor out there and in my opinion the Ego is the best. It's one of my always on pedals and for good reason.

Awesome Pedal

By Brad from Boulder CO
Music Background: Professional player and teacher

I just got 2 of these. One for my wife who plays violin, one for myself who plays acoustic guitar. All sounds seem to be in a sonic space, and a good compressor can move that sonic space up to the foreground. This pedal does that very well. I love the ability to blend uncompressed sound with compressed sound. Makes this pedal feel more organic. It also adds a little electricity to my sound. It "wakes up" a little. I'm using 2 Eventide H9s, a Grace Alix preamp and one of these compressors with a Martin Om acoustic. This pedal stays on all night. If you go back and forth between finger picking and strumming, you need this. Love the tiny footprint as well!

Wampler has done it again..

By Clay

This compressor is the mother of all compressors. I really can"t express my love for this pedal. IT ALWAYS STAYS OM. I can"t play without it. It"s simple—stop thinking about purchasing this pedal and just SEND IT. You won"t regret it.

Great, transparent, flexible compressor

By Eric G. from Albany, NY

I needed to replace an older, full-size Barber Tone Press on my pedal board. In a direct A/B comparison of the Tone Press and the Ego, I found that the Ego was just as flexible as the Tone Press. The Tone Press was a tiny bit more transparent, but the added flexibility of the tone and attack controls on the Ego more than made up for this difference.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

By Ryan G. from CO

What a wonderful pedal. This can go from transparent to squashed. The mix knob is essential.

The only compressor you need to consider (other than the original Wampler Ego)

By Zack R. from West Haven, CT
Music Background: Teaching K-5 Music for 4 years, private studio lessons for 6 years, and guitarist for 18 years

I have played guitar for quite some time (going on 18 years) and was never a big pedal guy. I primarily play to be a better guitar teacher and for jamming with friends, so my Les Paul or Strat and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe was a decent combo. I hadn't bought any new gear in over 10 years, so after ordering a PRS Se Custom 24 and PRS Sonzera 20 amp, I was looking to expand my pedal collection and build a real board for the 1st time.

I thought I would give the Mini Ego a try after watching tons of videos from Wampler and the brand being highly recommended by my local shop. After trying it out for a couple of minutes, I knew that I had to have it! All of the control knobs provide a ton of flexibility and the blend control in particular is a huge selling point! My favorite "always on" setting is blend and volume dialed to 11 o'clock, sustain at 1 o'clock, and both of the switches to the right (bright tone and fast attack). The mini size is a great added benefit for saving space if you use a lot of pedals.

Bottom line: If you're considering the Mini Ego, just buy it! You won't regret it!

Best pedal on my board

By Morgan from Denver, CO
Music Background: Hobby Musician

This pedal exceeded all my expectations. I've had several different compressors including keeley's and this is by far the best compressor I've ever had. It doesn't color my tone at all, just adds beautiful compression and increased note clarity running through my Rivera Venus Deux Combo. I have my guitar running straight into the compressor with a TS9 and Wampler Velvet Fuzz next in the chain. Works wonderfully running my amp clean as well as dirty with the tube screamer and fuzz engaged.

Build Quality is top notch. I recommend watching Brian Wampler's YouTube video to see some of his favorite settings for different tone applications. Those helped me dial in a good compression setting quickly without tinkering too much.

Great Pedal

By Shawn D. from Johnson City, TN
Music Background: Jazz, Pop, Rock

I hated compressors...just hated them. Every time I tried one, it did too much. Any piece of gear l add to my signal chain must retain the interaction between the playing, the guitar, and the amp. That is my big requirement. The compressors that I had tried prior to the Mini Ego were too drastic of a change...they functioned more like an effect than a subtle enhancer. This compressor solved all of that for me. The ability to use parallel compression in a pedal format is great (via the blend knob). It adds such a nice feel and tone enhancement at subtle settings. A great way to get a studio-like enhancement in an easy-to-incorporate pedal. I prefer the subtle settings, but the Mini Ego can also do the heavy "squishy" compressor effect as well. This compressor is a real winner! Hands down the best I have ever used.

A big thanks to Ryan Sloan as well! A great sales engineer...always willing to help and goes the extra mile with every transaction I make. This is why I order from Sweetwater.

Mini ego

By Sweetwater Customer

More limited functionality that larger brother, as intended in design. Small footprint, and effective controls otherwise. Transparent with plenty of high-end remaining in signal. Slightly noisier than a quiet overdrive with mild gain, nothing unexpected or unmanageable. Solidly built product, with a good sound. Would recommend.

Good enough for Pete Thorn's new set up!

By Andrew

However, I think Pete uses it just for clean sounds. I use it as an "always on, just makes things better" device. I have found that the blend control is the key to go from one guitar to another. Strat- higher blend setting and a bit more volume. Humbucker- lower blend, lower volume. Using it like this makes it the ONLY thing I have to change when swapping guitars. The mini toggles are fine imo. If you need more control than the toggles give you need to quit your job and become a recording engineer asap! It has very low noise for a compressor and does not alter the voice of your guitar like so many compressors do.

Less is More

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional worship leader & gigging musician.

Compared this to the full size version and the JHS Pulp N' Peel. This was the winner for me. The other pedals were great options too, but if you're concerned about any loss of tone due to the compact size fear not. I actually like this better than the full size pedal plus it's a perfect fit on my board. It's a clear and very versatile. The blend control allows for subtle compression, perfect for adding punch to that dotted eighth delay.

Brian Does it AGAIN!

By Max P. from Cape Girardeau, MO
Music Background: Playing 19 yrs, performing 17 yrs, building 14 yrs

The only compressor I will ever need. So versatile, so compact, so QUIET! It COMPRESSES, and does nothing else to my tone. This makes it equally useful for ACOUSTIC guitars as well! The TONE and ATTACK switches are set perfectly I do not ever find myself longing for the adjustability of having knobs for those controls like on the larger Ego Comp. THAT BEING SAID, If you were the type of person that is going to constantly be changing your settings, I would HIGHLY recommend the FULL sized Ego Comp because the controls on the mini can be a little small and close together to comfortably get to in a hurry.

Small Size but big time pedal!

By Guy from Denver
Music Background: Still at it - some 40+ years!

Just got it last night, already on my pedal board... Small little guy - that performs HUGE!

Blend knob REALLY makes all the difference!!! I own several great compressors, but this is so transaparent, smooth, quiet, - and it until the sustain actually kicks in - you hardly notice that it is even on...

Will gig with it this weekend - but so far - very impressed.

Another amazing product from Wampler!

And as always - my long time Sweetwater sales representative - Chris McCown was there to answer all of my questions...

Superb

By Dave L. from AZ
Music Background: Semi pro

Small
Just as good as big brother without two extra knobs which to me are ok. Usually see only two sweet spots on attack and tone. I found it easily and was not upset I couldn't dial,in more. This pedal works great with humbuckers as well. Great sound, transparent as well. Pricey? Compared to its competition this is a great deal. I looked at JHS, Keeley, Boss, Diamond, MxR and Cali76.
It's always on, not many compressor pedals you can do that with in my opinion.

Nothing better

By Wilson from Vermont
Music Background: Solo progressive rock composer, born studio rat

I dont turn it off... Often anyway. Ive gone through three other compressor pedals, including the illustrious MXR studio comp (which is lovely on bass) and none satisfied for guitar because they lacked a blend knob. Sounds great, not all that noisy, and works well for acoustic electric applications too. I am sure the big brother is just as good, maybe slightly better, but the knobs turned switches are fine by me, and would have been all the way to one side or the other anyway, so its worth saving the space. Well worth it, no regrets at all, and even though equipment doesnt make the music, it has really helped me finish my album.

Best Comp I've Ever Used!!!

By Matt P. from Semmes, AL
Music Background: Singer Songwriter / Worship Leader

I've owned a couple of compressors before this one (I won't name names, but they both started with J and ended with S), and I'm blown away by how great this pedal sounds. Brian Wampler and his company did a fantastic job cramming a ton of tone into this tiny enclosure. The parallel blend feature is super helpful for dialing in amazing clean tone. The transparency of the pedal is by far the cleanest of the comps I've had so far. I know people might complain that the switches on the mini comp only have 2 possible settings vs Wampler's full size Ego having knobs to dial in the sound, but it really is a non-issue here. The switch settings are pretty much ideal. This is another home run for Wampler, and because of its size, guitar players should have no trouble fitting this comp on their board.
