Bogner Ecstasy 3534 50-watt Tube Head Reviews

50W, 3-channel Tube Head with Global Presence Control, 3-way Excursion Switch, Dual 3-band EQs, Per-channel Pre-EQ Switches, Boost Switch, FX Loop, Line Output, and 4 Footswitch-accessible Sounds

The newest iteration of the Bogner Ecstasy 3534 boasts all the same features as its 35-watt predecessor and packs on a beefed-up 50-watt power section, updated cosmetics, an overhauled effects loop, and a less-compressed sound. This 3-channel powerhouse has everything you need to sculpt your dream tone, including a global Presence control, 3-way Excursion switch, dual 3-band EQs, per-channel Pre-EQ switches, and much more. Whatever you're aiming for — crystalline cleans, crunchy blues, or raging distortion — the XTC 3534 can achieve it with its four footswitch-accessible sounds. A built-in boost, line output, and op-amp-buffered effects loop sweeten the pot further. And despite its scaled-down size, this gig-ready guitar amplifier delivers sufficient punch and volume to shatter the windows and shake the rafters. If you were blown away by this tube head's lower-watt forerunner, you'll really dig the 50-watt model — its tone and feel are a dead ringer for its full-sized, 100-watt sibling, and its white knobs and salt-and-pepper grille look the part as well. Most importantly, the latest Ecstasy 3534 exudes the classic sonic signature that makes Bogner's Ecstasy amplifiers so iconic — it's guaranteed to inspire your best playing.

God Amp

By Steve K. from Stamford, CT on February 12, 2024 Music Background: Studio Owner, Audio Engineer, Producer and Musician

So, I played one of these at a friend's studio and was blown away. I immediately called my sales engineer, the wonderful Mr. David Hess, and put in an order. It's arrived a couple of weeks early, right when most of my guitars were out getting tune ups! Finally got to spend a week with it and threw it at everything. Every guitar, cab, pedal, mic, cab IR, etc. in my studio.

The result? This thing is incredible. Every channel, pre-eq switch, tone stack and boost is utterly usable and makes your guitar feel like a living, breathing extension of your mind.

The clean channel spanks, chimes and jives like nothing I've ever heard, and it takes OD and EQ boost pedals like a pro.

The blue channel goes from earthy blues to classic rock to modern rhythm and tight leads. Dial back the volume on your guitar and it's like a whole other channel. Slight break up on slow strummed chords and arpeggios just rolls off with no ugly artifacts. I have never found a modern amp that does this well, until this one.

The red channel sounds fantastic sans boost for modern to metal rhythm and riffs. Palm mute work even sounds good without a tube screamer type pedal in front. With the gain all the way up, sub-5th fret work is defined and musical, another unicorn this thing seems to have on tap. With the.boost on the red channel, I finally understand what a "liquid" lead FEELS like. I've heard it before, but have never achieved it myself. It's the sound I've heard in my head for years just pouring from my fingers.

I also should mention the Cab Excursion switch, which is a lot bigger deal than I would have thought. It can take your sound from tight to bloom in a flick of a switch. I don't use the "dark" setting, myself, but I am sure the kids that come into the studio will love it. It almost feels like a sag control in the way it alters the dynamics when playing. I'm too lazy to read up on what it's actually doing, but, again, it's incredible.

I know, I know, purple prose. But it's true. Simply amazing.

I can't recommend this amp, Mr. Hess and Seeetwater enough. If you are serious about your guitar tone, this thing absolutely kills it in every way. All my Mesas, Marshalls, Oranges, 5150s, boutiques etc., etc., are going to be very lonely.

Awesome Amp with Huge Tone!

By Dave on October 23, 2023 Music Background: Semi Pro/Amp designer/Builder

The Bogner Ecstasy 3435 Amp 50 watt is voiced like the 100 Ecstasy amps where the 35-watt version is the 101b amps.

This is the 50-watt version, and it doesn't disappoint.

Overall, the amp is very compact and would be very easy to carry around for gigs, not lunchbox size, but there are many 15watt amps that are the same physical size.

The clean channel (green) is very impressive. It is very clean but has a nice "give" to it meaning that playing a clean solo has nice feel to it. It is very sweet sounding and not harsh at all. This channel could be used solely as a pedal channel to use pedals in front. It is actually one of the more surprising channels on the amp.

The Blue Channel is the standard Bogner Blue channel we have all come to love. From mild breakup to heavier tones.

The Red Channel is an awesome channel. Voiced like the earlier 100 Bogner's series (no longer made) this gives you a nice modern gain channel to solo and play tight heavy rhythms on. There is a tad less gain than say a 101B but the gain on this channel, is throaty, ballsy, sweet with full harmonics and zero fizz.

All three channels have the Bogner 3-way bright switch B1, B2 and N

The Boost switch that affects the blue and red channel makes the gain structure basically to Vintage to Modern. It is the same thing the Boost switch does on the big amps.

The power amp also has the Excursion switch which controls the negative feedback. D L T

L= Loose, this I believe is a name mistake by Bogner, L is not loose at all. It should be relabeled as N for normal. Because the amp is not loose at all, it is very tight, but wide open and huge sounding, it sounds absolutely the best here. This in my opinion is the best and only setting you need on the power amp.

T= Tight and adds more negative feedback to the amp, this squashes the openness of the amp reducing both lows and highs and narrowing the tone. You would have to compensate with the tone controls to use this correctly.

D = Dark and it is very dark, muffled blanket over the speaker sound. This also yields the lowest power amp output.

The Effects loop is great, and here are some tips to use it. It has a hi and low switch for pedals vs rack gear. It also has a Master return control know, which is essentially is the amps Master volume control. The best way to use the loop is to set the send levels with the channel volume controls (about 10:00 to 12:00). Then set the master return knob (volume) to set the overall volume of the amp. This results in a nice quite loop experience. Also, the Master send return control makes it easier to fine tune the overall volume of the amp.

The amp has MIDI capability to switch channels and boost, and that's how I use it. But the included footswitch also does all of those functions as weel.

Small Package with a huge Bark

By Dave from Wichita, KS on October 4, 2023

Don't let the 50 watts fool you into thinking this is a tame amp. This amp sounds like the big 100-watt beast. Full of throaty low-end punch that is tight warm and articulate.

The amp is very small and compact which makes it great for a gigging amp that delivers. All the 101b tone with a small compact light weight package.

Clean to full metal punch. This amp can do it all! This is a versatile beast that everyone should own. I am more than ecstatic to own this amp.

New twist on the XTC

By Mike from Alpharetta, GA on October 3, 2023 Music Background: 25+ yrs playing, semi pro, collector

Really great amplifier! For context I own a 101B, and a 3534. (and a Goldfinger SL, and Shiva...huge Bogner fan!).

Comparatively, new 50w 3534 is much closer to the 101b, especially in the red channel. It is definitely less compressed in the gain channels (blue/red) than the 3534. Not a good or bad thing, but it is different and more like the big boy. I find the clean channel on all three very similarly voiced...very warm, and awesome.

The other main difference for me on the 50w 3534 is the change in the effects loop. The regular 3534 was usable/fine but got a little hissy in the red channel. On the new one, it's consistently quiet across all 3 channels. (One tip I've learned from Jorg on both 3534 versions, it's designed to turn the channel volumes up to noon or a little more, and then adj master volume via the effects loop master. Keeps any noise down.)

In the end, this is a great amp, 3 channels, plus boost on blue/red gives multiple variations. There's a reason the XTC is iconic, the 50w 3534 is no exception.
