Toontrack EZbass Virtual Bass Guitar Software Reviews
Toontrack’s EZbass virtual instrument brings the same great sound and intuitive workflow that made EZdrummer a staple to the world of bass guitar. Far more than a virtual instrument, EZbass offers amazing sound quality and fundamental features that let you add realistic bass tracks to your songs with minimal effort. You can choose between Vintage and Modern tones and let EZbass instantly build you a bass line, convert pre-recorded guitar, piano, and drums to MIDI, or input your bass line with a keyboard controller. According to Erik Phersson, Toontrack’s Head of Software Development, EZbass “goes above and beyond a traditional sampled instrument. EZbass is a bass player as much as it is an immaculate sound library.” Solo artists and producers at Sweetwater have long valued Toontracks virtual instruments for letting them fill out their songs with immaculate-sounding parts, even when they don’t play those instruments. And, with EZbass, it’s easier than ever to add rock-solid groove to your productions without ever picking up a bass.

EZ Bass is a great tool.
If you are reading this, it's likely you play a little guitar or keys. In a crunch you can even fake your way thru Louie Louie on bass. Don't take this the wrong way, but your recordings will sound better with EZ Bass filling in the low end. Lots of flexibility and features. Comes with enough midi to keep you entertained for awhile. Depending on genre you might want to pick up an expansion pack or two.
ez bass
killer product from toontrack
FUNKY TOWN
EZBass is fantastic for bringing in great clean bass line ideas and in combination with EZDrummer 3; the rhythm section explodes...I'm going to get EZKeys as well as soon as I get these two tools working. GREAT STUFF!
GAME CHANGEER
I'am using EZbass and EZdrummer inside my DAW ( REAPER ). This has put my song writing on a hole new level. Its like giving a blank canves to an artist. Within days I was able to produce studio quality music. The best in my 40 some years of playing and recording. The features in EZbass gives you options on how to produce your bass lines. Within minutes you can test ideas and build from there. This made song writting fun again. The cost is minimal for the value you get here. I sometimes produce in the early morning hours. Lol try calling your bass player at 4 am. So any time you desire your EZbass is ready to help you with your project. I give this a five star rating. I want to thank Sweetwater for being outstanding in demos and support.
my review
I love ezbass and ezdrummer 3 just drag in a mp3 or midi file and the rhythm section is set thanks for a great product!
great inspiration for hip hop basslines, ghost notes a huge plus
great inspiration for hip hop basslines, ghost notes a huge plus, looking forward to adding more ez bass packs next time
EZBass
EZBASS is a great program that lets you add a natural sounding bass lines easily and effectively!
Shear Awesomeness!
Toontrack does it again… I'm a bass player and I love playing bass on my songs, but depending on the day my tone (or abilities) are less than sweet… with Toontrack EZ Bass the tone is consistently killer!
The fretless expansion plugin is ridiculously good. Now I'm saving my pennies to get the upright expansion for those acoustic intimate tunes!
As always, Sweetwater ROCKS! It's funny, I can go to any store to buy stuff, but if I have any questions on a product they all do the same thing… pull up the Sweetwater site and read what "they" say! I figure if Sweetwater is doing all the work they should get all the business! Again, Sweetwater ROCKS!
Love it
I purchased this and was delivered really quick. Has great features and great sounds and I'm enjoying it every time .Best of all Customer service and support was great .I'm buying more gear.
Definitely easy
I've been very pleased with this and I've only been using it for a few weeks. I mostly use the feature where it listens to my guitar and drums and makes up bass parts. It's usually pretty good right away, but I tweak a little in the editor. I use this with ezdrummer and ezbass. Making demos for my band to learn new songs is now a lot easier.
Pretty Cool
I can play bass well enough to get the job done, but I'm looking for more perspective, tones, and flexibility on my bass tracks. I just got the Toontrack EZbass and EZbass MIDI pack package a few weeks ago and had fun playing with it, sounds great and has lots of capabilities. I asked for a gift card to get the Hard and Classic Rock EBX Expansions. I'll likely get the Fretless EZbass Expansion someday too.
Fantastic plugin!
EZBass is a fantastic plug in that lives up to its name. The learning curve to get up, running, and creating very realistic bass guitar parts is truly easy. It has a very intuitive layout and working with the drag and drop functions is a tremendous plus when trying to get ideas down to "tape" quickly. Just the other day I utilized EZBass in conjunction with EZDrummer and was able to layout and refine a very nice rhythm section for a rock track in far less time than if trying to record a human drummer and bassist on top of that the quality of the tracks was A+. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs high audio quality bass tracks and flexibility in getting ideas onto your recording software.
Very realistic sounding!
Highly recommend. I bought the EZbass software and the add on stand up bass which I haven't used yet but it too is amazing sounding.
Makes creating basslines E-Z (pardon the Dad pun)
Would definitely recommend!
Easy to understand interface (especially if you've used any of the ToonTrack line)
I was putting down trial-run basslines within minutes....keepers in under an hour.
Amazing!
I have Ample Sound Guitar (6 guitars and 2 basses) and I edit bass tracks by using Guitar Pro to edit the articulations. Then, I import that MIDI to Ample Sound Guitar. But this takes forever to finish a bass track. I also own MODO Bass from IK Multimedia . But this EZbass just blows me away. It is super easy to use and it saves me tons of time. There are different ways to create a bass line using EZbass: (1) I can just grab a bass groove from the software library; (2) I can import MIDI or wave file to EZbass and it will come up with a bass line for me; or (3) I can play the instrument and it will learn my rhythm and come up with a bass line. Then, I can add articulation from there. It's like one, two, three, and there's a bass line. For a keyboardist like myself, this plugin is my best friend forever. About the sound, I'm not a critical listener and how a plugin sounds is a sort of personal reference, but I don't think EZbass would disappoint anyone regarding its sound. Give it a try and you won't regret.
Do it! Its worth it!
Indispensable addition to my song writing library. What a time saver!!! I used to write out my bass lines by hand note for note. EZ Bass does it in a few clicks of the mouse. There are all sorts of creative uses for EZ Bass also. Not just your bass line but it proves useful to write other parts as well. Exporting midi is a cinch... just drag it to your desktop and bang!! Transpose and wallah...
Love It
Awesome! It's the best!
Best Bass Player ever
Quick joke, what do you throw to your bass player if he were drowning?
His amp.....
This is the easiest bass player I have ever had to deal with.
EZ Bass makes it EZ!
Wanna sound like it was hard to do? EZ Bass makes it EZ to create bass tracks that sound like real players playing 'your' music, not just bass loops that force you to create around them. There's still so much I have to learn about this plug-in, but I'm already in love! I see myself using this on many songs in the future.
Very Nice
So far so good. I am just feeling my way around this plug-in but the sound and feel of the grooves is very good. I look forward to working with it more with my setup.
EZ BASS IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD
I love playing guitar and record and produce rock instrumentals. I can play some bass but my passion and most of my ability comes with playing electric guitar. Getting EZ BASS has really spiced up my productions and allows me to let the bass have a bigger role in my songs. The ability to enhance the articulations being played is fantastic and really lets me spice up the tune. I have only scratched the surface on how to use it and can't wait until I have a greater understanding on how to make EZ BASS really pop.
Great
Great products
Real bassists beware
First the sounds and realism. Amazing. I wrote a song, laid out the drums with EZ Drummer, laid down my rhythm guitar track and then created a bass pattern with EZ Bass. I listened back the three tracks and I'll be damned if you can't tell that isn't a real live living breathing bass player and drummer.
EZ Bass has a learning curve. A huge learning curve although the software is very intuitive and easily leads you along the path to your desired result. There are nuances of the software to become aware of like the velocity of your created bass lines or individual notes and how that effects your song. Adding slides or how the bass is played with one finger or two, or is it picked?
The available types of bass and tones available make it a joy to play with, and from that to find the sound to suit your taste and how it changes the mood of your song.
I will say this, a real bass player could bang out a killer bass line in a fraction of the time it takes to create the same bass line in EZ Bass. But if you don't have the availability and same schedule of your buddy bass player who has an intollerable demeanor, EZ Bass is a viable alternative. It just will take a little longer to get the bass line you need.
Although there are automations within the software to help you get to your desired destination, it will still take you time to get your desired result. And that is only because you will have so many options at your finger tips to manipulate what you hear and want that you will tweak it endlessly.
A recording engineer friend once said to me "When doing your final mix, you're never done, you just give up". Such will be your recording sessions with EZ Bass.
I highly recommend this software plug-in.
Have fun.
Need a workflow solution? Who needs a bass player.
Strap on folks this one's going to be a big one! I write all the music myself, all by myself, all alone in the studio. I have no bass player, no drummer. Some would say no guitar player. LOL. Call In EZBASS and EZdrummer! They have made my workflow a Snap. Super easy to use and intuitive. Now my songs have a real bass feel and sound, and the drums are SMACKIN!! Thanks toontrack AND Sweetwater, cause they had it cheaper than the source!
Fantastic
I've got a few of the popular bass guitar vst's, and while they are all usually usable, EZ Bass is by far, my favorite!!!
Juste Wow!!
Super son de bass! Facile à utiliser et l'option de transférer mon enregistrement de ma vraie bass en midi pour utiliser ezbass c'est très pratique. Ezbass est ce que je recherchais
Seriously Impressive! A+
The demo video looks incredible but I was skeptical about this product living up to the hype. I loaded a rhythm guitar track from a song that I had already released on Spotify to see how accurate it could create a bass track and lo and behold it basically matched what I had played on my original track note for note. This software is going to be very useful. 10/10 I would it buy again.
Its all about the bass
This software lived up to all the hype. Excellent real bass guitar sounds that fit like glove in the mix. And the audio tracker was super intuitive. I loaded up my crappy bass tone tracks from past sessions and transformed them into pro level tracks that brought my mixes to another level. LOVE IT!
All over it!
This thing just made doing tracks/compositions much more easier. I don't have a bass guitar. not planning to buy anytime soon. But when I heard about this, I just scratched the idea of ever buying a bass guitar. Sure learning curves but it gets the job done. So you dinosaurs out there saying "I have a bass guitar, what am I going to use this for?"... I don't see the logic why you have to comment that if you already have a bass guitar. lol.
WOW! Absolutely Ridiculous! Toontracks Makes Songwriting Great Again!
I am rarely ever motivated to write interviews. However, after writing and recording music for decades using every conceivable tool available at the time to help lay down realistic sounds of instruments I did not readily have available or personally able to perform well, such as bass guitar. I started in the 80's with 360 systems midi-bass! Thinking it was great at the time, boy it sure had zero dynamics and realism. Today I still use every kind of sampling, looping and software tool available. But EZBass has got to be the most incredible bass tool for anyone who needs realistically performed, dynamic, articulate great sounding bass guitar... IMMEDIATELY! I was up and running so fast and it is super easy to change any included groove to your liking. I use it along with Superior Drummer 3. Now I spend much less time getting sounds and realistic performances than ever before! I've seen the toontracks products around for years and always talked myself out of trying them solely based on their name "EZ" i figured anything with "EZ" in the name has got to be cheesy and for amateurs only. Boy was I wrong! Now I am using all their products which I first began using just over the last few months. Toontracks has definitely made arranging, producing and songwriting GREAT AGAIN! and EEEEZEEEEEE! :)
EZ Bass and EZ Keys are super additions to the studio
Just new to both and as with the Superior drums they not only help to keep the grove, but key and bass give a new element of creativity.
Especially now with lockdown restrictions play alone is now more complete. Hopefully as these cool tools become second nature we will be able to
use in band recording once the lockdown is over. Always hoping for more productivity and creativity. Thanks Sweetwater and Toontrack
EZ bass
Having been late for the show on this Toontrack software, I've seen a lot of YouTube videos that got me thinking I should look in to getting it and checking it out for myself. Being a bass player myself (sort of) and recording everything I need besides the drum tracks, that I use Superior drummer 3, because it just makes sense being I suck at drums. 5 min, after loading EZbass I ran a bass track from a song I've been working on through the audio tracker, edited the playing style and amount of notes played and few other tweeks my not to bad sounding bass track came to life like I hired a studio session pro! Replacing it with midi that sounds great compared to my bass recording set up, I can get decent bass tracks straight in to a dbx 676 channel strips pre and alil comp, but no where near what I'm getting through EZbass not to mention the vintage and modern library tones I can switch through to get that bass sound that's in my head onto my song that just make the creative process so much easyer. Toontrack has another hit with EZ bass I can't wait till the 15 th with their first release exspansion pak for EZbass, classic rock and Eddie Kramer SDX for Superior drummer line. Coming up with ideas for new songs just got a whole lot EZ'er! If your on the fence thinking of getting this just do it you won't have any regrets or buyers remorse, just a lot of fun with your new bass player!
Another Quality Toontrack Product
I've used Superior/EZ Drummer for years now, so when I heard about EZ Bass, I decided to replace the setup I was using for programming bass, and I have not been disappointed. Every other quality virtual bass needs Kontakt, a $... program all on its own, and none really compare in quality to easy bass, which is already about 1/3 the price. If you don't have the equipment to record bass yourself, this is a must have, since, in my opinion, it's the only bass VST that sounds legit when it's very transparent.
Realistic sounding bass
So far I've only used EZ Bass to create some backing tracks for playing guitar instrumentals. I have EZ keys and EZ drummer. It's been a bit of learning curve but I'm getting there. Unlike EZD and EZK which have similar named patterns EZ Bass seems to have its own line of patterns so it's a more work getting them to play together out if the box. With a bit of work though (often just starting with root notes) you can create some great / fun tracks. Overall still learning the product- but it has a lot of potential. Love it!
Phenomenal , just phenomenal!!!
I've been a toontrack product user for many years, with only good things to say about their products. Having heard some EZbass demo's as well as having watched a few intro & tutorial videos, I decided I'd give this a go.
I had searched long and hard for something that was close to "a bass" but something was always obviously missing in sound or feel or naturalisms in playing technique.
Simply awesome. Period. Everything just works & gives me the bottom end tool for my song writing & studio work. Over the years I've enjoyed working with some solid session players, often in studio when demo-ing and idea, I've wished I had a player who could give me something "special" in a pinch... but who can afford to keep a great bassist on retainer???
Some may feel that only the real thing is the real thing, I'd rather say that EZbass has given me a solid time saving and sonically rich advantage, a great tool at my disposal, from basic grooves to intricate passes & playing styles. This sounds like that commercial PLUS bassist you wanted. NO, it does not sound like a synth.
I'm completely happy with the product and would recommend any small studio owner grab this as it's a winner.
Best service ever
I ordered online and got a call from Sam Hillman. He is a quality sales engineer and will definitely make more purchases because of him. But also Ezbass is awesome.
Great value
The capabilities of this tool far surpass it's cost. Highly recommended for song writers.
Great EZ Addition
Thanks, Mr. Matt Masek. A great addition to our EZ collection and well worth the investment. In the past couple of years, we've been traveling a bit and it's hard to have all the instruments we need to produce music. Toontrack's EZ collection is a staple for the traveling composer that needs to record when inspiration strikes. EZbass along with the EZdrums and Keys just makes sense. Thanks, Sweetwater we will always buy equipment from you knowing we are getting excellent value and service.
Unreal.
Not only does this compete sonically with the other MIDI bass libraries on the market - the interface and usability is second to none.
EX Bass Production
Ok, I am a bass player. EZ Bass is also a bass player and it is as good, if not better than the person using it. why? I have full control of the instrument, I tell it to do, what I would do as a bass player. The thing is it will do that, But it's almost like it's saying, what if we go this way with it? A lot of times I say, heck yes!! Again I can make it do exactly what I need it to do, I would tell any producer to try it, it does not disappoint...
Great product!
As a guitarist I have been always struggling with creating proper bass lines for my projects. This tool is simply unbelievable good and intuitive. Easy to use interface, great tools like converting audio into bass line (midi). Lovely product!
Lovely
So much fun to play with and so easy to use, great tool!
EZbass Virtual Bass Guitar Software
I have been a long time user of Toontrack's EZdrummer and have been happy with it's performance. It was no surprise to me that I would be equally as happy with EZbass. As with EZdrummer, I use the software to produce backtracks for my live gigs as well as my recordings. I am a keyboard player turned percussionist (steal pan player), and have never learned how to play string instruments. EZbass has brought another level of sound to my tracks that I have been looking for for years. It is very easy to use, in fact I was producing tracks with it as soon as it was installed on my system. If you are looking for that realistic bass sound on your tracks, it is the next best thing to using a real bass guitar!.
Toontrack does it again!
I can't believe how good this plugin is. I recently decided to make music on my own and faced the challenge of getting good quality bass equipment on a small budget. Then i see toontrack had this coming out and after brainstorming a couple days i went for it. I write my drums in ezdrummer then drag them over to ez bass and it generates the basslines for the song based off the drums. It's excellent. And you can edit the bass to sound more human. It makes being a one man band so easy!
Amazing product
Toontrack are masters at designing products that are easy to use but still have great depth if you want it. The bass sounds are really good and it's a breeze to get a realistic baseline for your song. The gui is absolutely beautiful and very well thought out. Still some minor bugs but the software is updated often. With the software center it's downloaded and installed in seconds. All in all great value for money. Very inspirational.
Fast bass tracks
Excellent bass tone and a range of tonal variations. The various bass lines are really useful when I am trying to come up with fast ideas for a new song. It's very easy to do MIDI edits of the bass line and to change keys in the song.
Toontrack Does It Again
Love the new EZbass from Toontrack. It inspires and also increases my workflow. Great product.
Best VST Purchase
I have purchased many VST's over the last 15 years. EZBass is by far the best investment I've made in a long time. It has sped up my production time exponentially by allowing me to quickly find the right bass to match my drums and keys. I can easily import the midi data into my DAW then modify what I need to match my chord structure and groove. Plus, I can switch to any other bass patch in my VST library and it works seamlessly. Toontrack's interface makes downloading easy and updating software a breeze. Finally, there is a multitude of grooves to fit just about any song I'll ever need to write or produce. I can't recommend it more. It makes me want to write more music knowing that I won't get stuck trying to get the right bass lines for my tunes.
Game Changer
This is indeed a game changer in music production, not only helping you make music faster, it has a great sounding bass and lots of presets.
Fantastic!
I bought this software the day it was released. After some experimentation with, I found that it works as they say it is. Similar to the other EZ line of products, it is very easy to use, even for beginners. I can now easily, with the EZDrummer, to write the foundation of my music. Thanks, Toontrack for another great product.
Get it
Sounds amazing
ez bass
Totally rounds out my sound. Great sounding bass with awesome grooves. ...my new bassist!
Amazing plug in
Easy to use, intuitive, great sound just awesome!!!!
EZBass Rocks!
I haven't had it long, but coming up with convincing bass lines has never been easier. Converting audio, and midi tracks from my EZKeys has been accurate and quite impressive. The articulations sound beautiful. I'm a fan! Highly recommended.
Toontrack EZBass
I'm so gobsmacked how Toontrack EZBass is!.. Utterly brilliant!.. This has helped my production immensely!.. Can't say enough how good this is!.. I'm so excited to see further developments what the devs have in store in the future of this product!..
Great plugin
I hope they are in development for a guitar plugin. Electric and acoustic. EZAx?
EZbass
Wow, I had time to dig into EZbass and I can say that this virtual bass plugin is incredible! I bought a number of bass plugins and although they sound like a real bass, they didn't have the feel of a real bass player. For instance, like sliding from a note to note. If you are looking for a really useful bass plugin, then I highly recommend the EZbass Virtual Bass. Thanks sweetwater.
EZ bass
Best virtual bass software made nothing like it, sounds so perfect. I have been waiting a long time for a bass software that plays, sounds, and grooves, like a true bass player.
So far . . .
I've used it a few times. It is definitely a practical and usable software for creating accompanying bass parts. Recommended.
Very realistic sounding. Lots of dynamic options.
I love the way it allows you to alter each note with mutes, slides, sustain, velocity, and more. And being able to learn a part from a MIDI track is a bonus. Even if I was able to play the notes as well as a studio player, I wouldn't be able to get the performance to sound this good. No more need to compress an inconsistent performance to level it out. I highly recommend this app for the home studio musician. It is a great tool for the songwriter as well. Dragging in a groove from the library and changing the chords around can inspire some great musical ideas.
Made my life a lot easier
I have several other software basses and i use them all frequently. What sets this apart is for me the ease of dragging grooves into the midi editor (in the VST) and then apply the chord progression to it. Also, being able to draw and click in the hammer on/off and slides, etc without having to memorize the midi notes that other vst's require you to know. It's just so much quicker. I'm able to make more backing tracks for church in shorter amounts of time. Also. The basses—modern and vintage—both sound great. While I'm looking forward to a rickenbocker sound at some point and maybe an upright, these are both very good basses. Great job toontrack. If you're used to working with ezDrummet or superior drummer, you will be up to speed very quickly.
EZBASS - Awesome softwares
Has to be one of the best thought out and complete software packages. More than adequately fills the gap in the music writing process. Also want to acknowledge the support in purchasing, and the after purchase follow up of the sale was extremely impressive. Highly recommend the program and the Sweetwater company.
Beast bass
I have tried a lot of bass vst. Plug and play. Nothing complicated, user friendly interface, great sound.
For this price you can buy only cheap bass guitar, If you are a not good bass player and you want to make great bassline instantly, this is MUST for you.
Superb
Two richly sampled basses. Excellent presets but very tweakable beyond. It will go much deeper than "EZ" implies.
EZ Bass
I would highly recommend EZ Bass. I've always been frustrated using software bass instruments. They just didn't come across as real in my recordings. EZ Bass on the other hand sounds like a real bass and can be used to replace bass parts. I was able to import my midi bass lines and they sound better in EZ Bass. As the name suggests it is easy to use. I would suggest using the manual and watching the videos to get the best out of it.
WOW!!!
I've been playing bass guitar for 35yrs and I just replaced myself. Love the sound and the arrangement details. I use EZ Drums & EZ Keys on the majority of my studio projects and have them set up in my DAW templates. Guess what just got added to those templates....EZ Bass
EZBass for a Bassist
Why would a Bassist like EZBass? To speed up the process of song creation! Especially if you are collaborating with band mates but can't meet with them face to face! Instead of having to play a line over and over and over again, using different articulations, I play it once, and then just change the articulations in EZBass and send them multiple examples and ask "which do you prefer?". What might have taken months of back and forth now only takes hours!
Sweet sounding Bass
Get yourself any inexpensive bass record your audio and drop it in Ezbass it will convert to midi and you will have all the flexibility and the best sounding vst bass to date.
Easy!
Nice,Simple and Easy!
A great Tool for Writing and Producing Music
I was very excited for the potential of this plugin and so far from what I discovered, it is a power house. Excited to see what they do with the expansions but I'm very happy with the sounds, functions, and articulations of the basses. Highly recommend.
Superb
I always said if Toontrack made a bass plugin I'd buy it immediately. I was a little concerned about bugs getting worked out but after having used this software for 4 days, I have to say this is a very polished release. The sounds are the quality you'd expect from Toontrack, and the flexibility really shines through here. I couldn't be more impressed. 10/10 would buy again.
EZBass is Great! Just buy it, period.
I just fired up EZBass for the first time. I was working on a 60s R&B track and had 3 MIDI tracks to try to get a decent bass sound. One track was a P-Bass from the other Bass virtual instrument company, second track was a Fat Bass preset for a Synth, and the third was another Synth patch for a Sub bass sound. Together, how can I say it...they stunk.
I put in the EZBass, stock preset, didn't touch a single thing. Hit play and I am in love. But... although it is 97% there, it needs some Sub bass. No problem, open the effects tab and the Sub-Bass Level control is right there. Dial it up. It went from 97% to 100% then it actually went to 11.
I will now try the Grooves or MIDI loops that come with EZBass and expect it to be as good as the grooves that I use every day from Superior Drummer 3.
Just buy it.
Love it!
I just downloaded EZ Bass and have only used it for a couple days, but have loved it so much thus far that I felt the need to write about it.
When this software was released, I was very impressed by what I saw/heard in the demo video, and since I have been using EZ Drummer for a few years now, I figured I would give this a try.
Well, I am so very glad that I did, because so far this software has definitely lived up to its promises! I absolutely love the tone, and it has been a monumental improvement over the previous virtual bass I was using. I like the flexibility of having two different, high-quality basses to choose from (although it actually feels like more, with all of the pick and amp presets that come with it).
I am eager to try the audio-file-to-midi option. That will allow me to play my real (but cheap-sounding) bass, but get the awesome sound of the software.
I also like that the interface of the plugin is incredibly easy to navigate, and pretty self-explanatory. If you already use EZ Drummer or EZ Keys, you will feel right at home even faster.
I highly recommend this to anyone who may be thinking about buying it!
Song and Groove Writers Dream
Toontrack has done a great job once again. I am a Guitar and Bass Player and have been making music for over 30 years and this tool is a very welcome addition especially in song writing.I have only had EZ-Bass for maybe over an hour and am throughly enjoying it from the jump.Very intuitive workflow and gui. Like I said I am no slouch when it comes to actually playing guitar or bass but this instrument just has a great flow to it.I have found when writing a song if you have your bass and drums grooving, melodies and chord progressions fall come natural. If you want to get ideas going and get into a groove this is definitely worth it.Its faster than setting up a bass to record ideas and getting a sound. My primary use and most likely same for experienced players would be an idea starter that can be shaped to your own original bass grooves which I would learn and play on my actual bass. For the non-bass player the sounds are professional and will be perfect for your song. You can even use the final midi with other bass vsts like MODO Bass.Thank You Toontrack and Sweetwater.
Wow! Just, WOW!
I've only had a couple of hours with EZBass thus far, and all I can say is, "Toontrack, you've got a major hit with this one!"
Just like like the package says, EZ! The interoperability with Ezkeys, Ezdrummer, and Superior Drummer are great, but WAIT!!! you can use ANY midi, ANY audio (well nearly any audio), or just tap out a basic rhythm to start your EZbass part on its way to greatness.
Play your guitar for the bassline and have Ezkeys convert it. Convert your clarinet recording to a bass line? I dunno I don't play clarinet but I bet you can.
Anyway, I am going to spend a couple of days down the rabbit hole with this to see what all it can do, but for now, Toontrack, you have a real winner here.
Oh, and Thanks Ben for getting the activation code straightened out for me. Not a Toontrack issue BTW, so no one be concerned.
Ezbass for low tuned metal
I bought this to translate my metal tracks over to pro tools. if your using guitar pro and think this is an easy midi import/export you couldnt' be more wrong, which is insane based on what toontrack is selling.
The sounds are great. alot of it is great. except it doesn't handle drop tuning translations or anything like that well at all. Import and pitch down an octave. which makes no sense but if your tabbing bass in guitar pro the only way to get ezbass to read it is shift it up an octave. for some reason you still get the correct pitch but it is dumb and counterproductive.
great program along with many other toon track products. However, its been a decade and they are just now getting their drum software to be where it needs to be. I'd give this plugin another decade before I would purchase it again. No one wants to hear that because it is the truth. but if you follow politics youll understand what i'm getting at. wait it out. Bass players and drummer s are screwed if toontrack succeeds, much in the way the middle class will deplete if the upper class gets its genderless, slave population legitimized.
Both are succeeding at alarming rates.
good luck out there!
My 24/7 Bass player
As a sax player I couldn`t be happier, I now have my very own bass player and drummer(Superior drums 3) at my disposal to create, jam or simply have fun playing anytime I desire.
EZ Bass is "EZILY da BEST"
I highly recommend it. I've demo'd and checked almost every other professional-bass program out there and none of them come close to the functionality, the sound, quality and professional grooves that this program can create for your music.
EZBASS
I own all the EZ products this one is great just as all the others
Great Bass For Someone with Arthritis and Neuropathy
I have been playing bass for 40 plus years. As I got older with some health issues that prevented and reduced the dexterity of my hands and fingers, this came along!
Fortunately, I have EZ Drummer and EZ Keys to assist me with composing. Now, I have a full rhythm section! The program is mostly, very intuitive.
I would like to see an export to wav button in menu. Looking forward to exp packs!
Thanks again, and this is worth every penny!

Very impressive Virtual Bass plugin and controller
I received the EZbass software a couple of days ago. Installed it in my Studio that is running the latest version of Bandlabs Cakewalk DAW software on a PC (was a long time user of Sonar going all the way back to the Cakewalk days of midi sequencing) the new Bandlabs DAW SW is amazing, but that is a story for another day.
The install was flawless and the plugin launched perfectly. The sampled bass tones are very good, but not quite as good as my Spectrasonics Trillian samples as those of you who own Trillian would expect. The EZbass SW supports two basses as the primary instrument sounds, a 60's Fender Jazz bass, and a 5 string Alembic....both very nice and great tones can be had by playing with them until they are just right...but the great news here is...wait for it........YOU CAN CONTROL TRILLIAN WITH EZBASS!! Simply enable the midi-out control on EZbass in general setup and a midi control source appears in your midi control selection menu on your DAW....so now you have the best of both worlds....the amazing workflow of the EZbass software environment, the nice tones of the built in libraries although somewhat limited, and the huge universe of bass sounds with Trillian....this combination is Nirvana for bass track composition...truly amazing.
EZbass is designed to work interactively with the EZkeys and EZdrummer programs the best. It is very easy to create bass lines derived from groove clips from either of those programs. Just drop the clips into EZbass for analysis to create really cool bass lines that can be easily modified to meet exact expectations...and it does it extremely well. The only reason i did not give this program 5 stars, is because they don't have quite the same level of groove analysis integration for Superior Drummer 3, which is the program i use. I hope that will be corrected in the future since this is a first release of the product.
Never the less, this program is truly amazing and a real boon for any studio where you are creating bass riffs and tones at a professional, as well as amateur level.
BASS PLAYER-Love this tool so far!
So, I view this tool like listening to other players and then putting my spin on it. In that application I Love this tool.
Aside from that, you always need to stay ahead of the A.I. game.
This product is very well put together and I would recommend it to writers and producers to get the initial ideas sketched out before hiring musicians to record your final product. Algorithms will never totally replace heuristics so long as your audience remains human! ;-)
I can't wait to see what Toontrack does with vocals. I hope they come out with something like YAMAHA's VOCALOID where you type in the lyrics and it sings it back to you.
As for this product, I think it is great and I can't wait to see what is next!
EZBass it just works
I write songs mostly in the classic rock genre. I started using it on a song that I couldn't get the bass part to be what I wanted and this thing helped me get they're much more quickly. I used the audio tracker to give me an idea and then I was able to adjust and come up with some other things. Also, using it with easy drummer, three and easy keys to it's helping me to write in Waze that are outside of the box for me so it's helping my creativity which is fantastic so for that alone it's worth it plus the sounds are really good. The sound libraries in it are really excellent and if you know the tune track products, it is a really creative tool.
Is a great alternative for a bass player.
What I like. Is pretty easy to use. The DI sound is amazing. You can use your fav bass vst and get unlimited tones. It has many presets which is good. Audio to midi is the star of the show.
What I don't like. The audio to midi is a hit or miss. Specially on lower tunnings. I had a really hard time with tunes lower than Drop C. Taking about Drop tunnings, you can't tune individual strings which makes it impossible to do drop tunnings. You can only do Octaves or semitunes as a whole. This is a big draw back on what could be a product like no other.
If Toontrack enable the drop tunning feature this will be a amazing.
A good bass VST
Pairing the VST with a virtual bass amp really brings out the sound. This works well with MIDI files and makes your music sound great. Overall I am very happy with the performance of this software.
Not as EZ as I’d hoped
This plugin sounds excellent, but there is a bit of learning curve for me. I'm not very good at bass so the audio tracker doesn't work very well for me and I don't usually know the names of chords I'm playing unless I look it up or really think about it. Which makes programming the midi take a lot of time.
So far, I've just ended up tracking bass myself in Logic for better results. I'm hoping I can figure EZ Bass out though so my bass tracks will be a little tighter.
EZbass
Been waiting for this, it's very cool but still checking out all the features . great sounding !
A great start.
I'm sure this will eventually end up being a 5-star product once they accumulate more bass guitars (acoustic upright needed, plucked and bowed - and a dedicated fretless electric 4, 5, and 6-string bass would be awesome) and more MIDI groove packs. I'm sure it's all coming down the pike... It's a fantastic start, no doubt! I wish EZ Keys (or better yet launch Superior Keys) had these editing features! EZ Bass definitely sounds more natural than "keyboard bass", and the editing features are pretty amazing.
toontrack bass
I own my own bass player I would like to see more reggae Groove toontrack bass is my new toy my music is Soca I will make this bass work for me
Ez bass
Good stuff. I use this to replace the sound of my bass by converting my bass track to MIDI. Sounds good!!
Great execution of a sound concept
The secret of the strong performance of the EZBass is really that it is founded on a sound idea. Pick a genre, tap a beat, select a style then refine it. All that is done easily. You know straight away whether its what you want or not. Then refine it that sound and that style to your heart's content. You then have the bass you want playing what you want.
All the structural elements are then on offer - pre intro, intro, chorus - the lot and you build what you want in a bassline.
Just as you do learning "live". Even the learning curve is not that steep EZ process mimics that exactly. Then drop it in. Very simple, very easy. Take as much time refining as you want. Go back. Go forward. Try something else. All simple.
The result is highly customised lines reflecting your choice. Your bass lines.
Incredible software, but expect issues using EZBass from within off-brand DAWs
I've been a Mixcraft fan for years, currently using v.9 Pro Studio. Mixcraft released something like EZBass and EZDrums years ago, but it was loop based not midi-sample based, so it was challenging to use and not very flexible - but fun! Compared to building songs from pre-record loops, EZBass and EZDrums are revolutionary pieces of software. However, DAW plug-ins only seem to work well with a few major brand DAWs, and Toontrack's own DAW. For me, both plug-ins did connect and launch from within Mixcraft-9 DAW without a hitch, but neither was fully functional. First problem, the EZBass audio tracker was borderline useless (unless you like a jumbled mess of mostly out of key triggers.) This seems to be a common problem with off-brand DAWs, so no real surprise - but I was hoping to get lucky. Also, midi dragging/dropping only works one-way: from the plug-in to the DAW. You can't drag midi from Mixcraft-9 back onto the EZBass or EZDrums plug in. And those two issues knock out most of the cool AI-ish functionality the programs have to offer in the first place! Even so, I'm having fun learning to use them and I can tell that if these two plug-ins DID work fully and correctly in my preferred DAW, they would definitely be game changers for me - a home-based, turn-key artist living in a small market that doesn't have a lot of live musical options.
It's OK, but won't replace my real bass
As a person who has played bass since grade school (I'm almost 50 now), I bought this primarily to lay down some bass tracks via a MIDI keyboard in the hopes that I could get some better song writing ideas and ideally replace my real bass eventually. The Toontrack demos make this look a lot more impressive than it really is. Or I should say...after doing a LOT of programming and editing, you can sound much closer to the demos...but probably not exactly.
The overall interface of the program is good. I like the layout and where everything is. Most things you click on are pretty intuitive and I rarely got lost in any menus, etc. Text and screen resolution look good and are adjustable.
If editing is your thing, you'll love it here. They do make the editing interface easy to use. You can edit grooves within the program and don't even have to drag them into your DAW. However, unless I am doing something wrong, once you drag a groove into the DAW you cannot re-open it within EZ Drummer.
There are only two basses: vintage and modern. They got the tone pretty much right for those sounds, and they offer a lot of general grooves. But all the nuances (slides, ghost notes, thumping, popping, etc) pretty much need to be programmed to make it sound realistic. I also found that the velocity curve on the bass is rather weak and needs to be tweaked: How hard you hit the keys is supposed to equate to how hard a real bass player would pick the strings. So, if you slam the keys you get fret and string buzz on the bass, etc. Combined with a weak velocity curve, this makes for limited dynamics.
Also, while it sounds like a bass, it just doesn't feel quite like a bass. I'm not talking in grooves, tone, or even EQ. It just feels synthetic, and considering I can do pretty much what I want on a real bass at pretty much any point, I think that Toontrack needs to do some program improvements. Perhaps future versions will be more dynamic and require less programming, but unless you either don't play the bass, don't play it well, or just want to lay down some scratch tracks I would say skip this for now.
After all, it's not truly EZ...
Not nearly as impressed as I thought I'd be.
It sounds decent, don't get me wrong, but it's a bit tedious to get it sounding like a genuine live performance. Not sure if that's even possible, and maybe Toontrack has done the absolute best job possible designing and creating this that can currently be done. Maybe it's just not a good fit for me. I'm a guitarist who also plays bass. I'm not great at bass. I'm decent at it and have played bass in a few bands. It's MUCH easier and faster for me to lay down bass tracks than it is to fiddle with this EZbass software. Again, I think Toontrack created something new and innovative that might be pretty useful for people who can't play bass at all, or for mix engineers that may need to do sound replacement on lousy bass stems. I would say though, that if you have a bass guitar, and you can play it decently, just stick with that if you're writing and recording music.
Medoicre
After buying EZ Drummer and being extremely impressed, I thought EZ Bass would be just as useful. I'll admit that it's fine if you want a rudimentary bass part, or don't really know how to write a bass part. For the rest of us, however, it's under-whelming.
OK but not for anything but Pop music
I write in odd chord changes and this software doesn't follow them. I'm really disappointed cause I have a song (Sway, and I followed the chord changes from the sheet music) I wanted to put a bass track in. EZ Bass couldn't follow chords and played a bunch of notes that had nothing to do with the chords changes, they are normal changes from the past. I tried to write some compositions using some simpler changes and ALL the midi lines were written for pop music. Yeah the stuff is great if you want your song shoved in the direction of "only what it can do" but I find it a creativity killer.
No new MAC support
This product is great but does not work well at all with the new Apple M1 chip. Until they update this it's unusable.
Meh...
Superior drummer 3 is my go to for triggers and for midi when I just cant do it myself, so i was really excited to try this. Unfortunately, this product doesn't even compare. It will work and give you a simplistic baseline, but it is just meh, and the tones when used as a VST when playing base are not as good as a di box. I'm hoping after the next few updates they will make the corrections needed in regards to the toneality of the instrument and offer new midi.
Audio tracker does not work
This is why I bought this product.I wanted to convert my DI bass tracks to midi so ezbass could trigger them.Total fail.
Could be great...
If the audio tracker worked, which was pretty much the main reason I bought it, it would be great. Software has also crashed, and crashes my DAW every time I tried to put the audio sender on a track. Reached at the toontrack multiple times, they suggested an upgrade which I did and the audio tracker still doesn't work
EZbass Is Not the Bass Version of EZdrummer
I have used Ezdrummer for a long time and have gotten so good with it that some A & R people tell me "I really like your drummer." So I had great expectations for EZbass. I was only looking for a program to record my own bass riffs played on a midi keyboard and was not interested in any of the other features of the program. Installed EZbass the first day. First day it did not work. Second day it worked for eight measures. Filed a support request which after four days has not been answered. Two techs tried to help me on the forum. Third day the same. Today, the fourth day it was working, so I quickly recorded 16 measures of a bass riff I needed for a new single release. Then I tried to find a way to export the recording to a wav or mp3 format so that I could import it to my DAW. Guess what...there is no way to export the recording to wav or mp3. So apparently unless you use this as a VST plugin, which does not work with my DAW, there is no way to export your work. EZbass is not EZdrummer, and I don't get it. I have asked for a refund and am back to looking for something else.
Audio Tracking is a joke.
Sounds great......but after numerous attempts to covert pre-recorded bass tracks to midi.....Im pretty convinced I finally got suckered for a toontrack product. I have tons of Toontrack stuff....and love them all. Ezbass has a ways to go.
It is freezing up my system as well. Needs a ton of work and I think it is not mature enough for release....unless you want to program your bass tracks......or use the midi included. Back to the good old fashion way of trackimg bass for me.
