Long lasting, clear as crystal, very affordable

By Joe R. from South Burlington, Vermont on January 3, 2022 Music Background: Seasoned player and recorder with decades of experience

Gee, this 3-pack has to be just about the best value in electric guitar strings. On D'Addario's brightness scale these nickel-wound strings are considered bright, much more so than chromes. They work beautifully on semi-hollow and hollow electric guitars like the 335, and Casino. D'Addario makes two basic types of 10-46 strings. Some sets have a wound 3rd (G string) and others, including this set, a plain 3rd. The plain 3rd perfectly matches the E and B strings. This is especially useful if you play a lot of three finger chords, balanced by bass lines, up and down the neck. Of all the dozens of strings I've used over the last decades, these are the ones I reach for to string a chambered Les Paul, a Midtown Custom, a 339, a 335, or a Casino. Fender tube amps react very well to the nickel winding. With all the specialty strings with special coatings that are on the market, sometimes the best turn out to be the simplest. If I'm not using flat-wounds, I'm using these.

been reliable since the 70's

i always used these strings i recently tried elixirs and i like them but the jury is still out on the strat with them,i tried a 3 pack of ernie ball 10-46 and they had issues going out of tune(not sure what they did)but no good, the elixirs stay in tune ,i can tell you that over 40 yrs with exl and never a problem prob gonna try these on strat again they sound great and trust me they are not prone to breakage ever so its these or elixir only for me

Best Sounding and Lasting

By Sweetwater Customer on December 11, 2020

I was a confirmed EB super slinky guy for years! Gigged with them exlusivley. One day I was listening to an interview with Cesar Rosas. (Los Lobos)
They had just broke big and I loved his guitar sound. The guy ask him what strings he uses. Diadario 10s. I was like I play 10s! So tried them, I never looked back. No comparison. They sound cleaner, crisper and last longer. I recently bought a used Ernie Ball Valentine guitar. It came with new EB SS 11s. Guess what, they sounded great but ya they are slinky under my fingers! Put on the DA 10s. Much better.
DAs are a little stiffer than EB SSs but just a little and after they break in not much difference in playability. They just sound better, to me.
But we all have different tastes. My son plays EBs!

Huge over the stock Epiphone strings of the same size. I couldn't be happier!

Best strings for FR

Now that I've setup my ESP for 10s, these are the only strings I will use. I'm sure though that the Dunlop string cleaner I use makes a huge difference. Every EB I've ordered had at least one corroded string.

The Best

I've been using D'Addario strings for almost 50 years now. Back in my touring days, I would buy their strings buy the CASE.....several at a time, because we'd change the strings almost every day. That said, I've haven't bought strings for some time....that is until I broke a couple stings and found I was basically out of strings, so I went to Sweetwater's site and started poking around.... I saw these, read the reviews and called up James Masterson, my music-pro-bro there, and bought a couple packs. They came very quickly and I changed the strings on a couple of my electrics and was VERY happy with the sound. The strings have a beautiful, all-around sound....the bass was sold and full but not too boomy. The middle strings were very lively and produced a clear, non-muddy sound. AND the top stings were crisp and alive. Hit a C-chord....and the guitar had an added presence that my old Start never really had. I highly recommend these strings. Great value and great sound. CONS: Ok, it is not a perfect world, but I still miss strings coming in individual packs.....but that is more a broody comment and not a reflection on Sweetwater or D'Addario. Thanks, again, for the great service and pricing!

Best Value

By John on March 15, 2016

I was hung on Elixir strings for both my electric guitars and acoustic guitars. I have found that these XL's sound and last just as well as the Elixir strings. And the best part is that I can get 3 sets for less than half the price of one set of Elixirs. I'm sold on these strings.

The Only String I'll Use From Now On

By Jim from Bellingham, MA on January 4, 2016 Music Background: Hobbyist

I've been playing D'addario strings ever since I saw their ad featuring Dave Mustaine in 1994. I was only a teenager at the time and I wanted to use the same gear my musical heroes were using. I've since come to realize that they're the most consistently reliable "bang for buck" strings on the market. I've strayed from time to time but I always come back to D'addario because I experience almost none of the issues that I always seem to experience with other brands. They keep their tone longer. They don't break with normal use, whereas some brands' strings break before you even get them tuned to pitch. They sound great and they're reasonably priced as well. The last time I bought strings, I bought Gibsons, specifically made for humbucker-equipped guitars. They're okay, but they're just not XL's. The tension's a little too tight as well. After having them on for about a week, I took them off and replaced them with a set of XL's I had in my gig bag. I'll be buying a 3-pack of XL's from Sweetwater very soon. I can't see myself switching, except maybe to NYXL's.

Awesome!

Thanks Tony Dayton at Sweetwater for another great recommendation. I had never used these before until Tony suggest it. Thanks, bro. These are great!

Top Quality

There are a lot of nice strings on the market and I've tried several brands. In the early 1990's I started using D'Addaario strings and in all honesty I've never used or even looked at any other brands since. I like the .010-.046 on my ES-335. I use .0095 - .044 on my Telecaster.

Daddario Strings

By Unknown from Colorado on May 18, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician

I have played many strings over the years and the funny thing is when I first started 20 years ago I played Daddario. Drifted away for a long time and just recently rediscovered how great they are. I recommend these strings to everyone that plays electric and also recommend that if you play acoustic you look into their acoustic strings. I will continue to play these strings for years to come.

Good sound

D'Addario EXL110-3D Nickel Wound Light Electric Strings

Excellent, Great feel, sustain, and tone; it would be nice if it came with an extra high E string.

They are smooth, perfect chimey harmonics that ring, they do best with stainless steel frets, clear & Pure Tone,i really like how tough they were,i use manh many tunings, and my az prestige came with them, love these,i was an ernie ball guy but playing these with my prestige is so so good, they dont snap easily, good vibrato/bend..I am about to order some to change them, stilll good tone after 7.5 months no change.

Consistent farbrication

By James Herring from Port Angeles, WA on May 1, 2014 Music Background: Guitar player

I've tried several brands of strings and yes, there are differences amoung them. D'Addario strings in my humble opinion, seem to sound musical a little longer than some of the others. That being said, I still usually change strings twice a month. Great strings and, I would recommend them to everyone.

EXLs!

By CColesJr from NorCal on January 13, 2014 Music Background: P&W Musician

For me, these strings work out the best on my electric guitars. I tried Ernie Ball's but for me they go dead in less than a week; GHS Boomers, Dean Markleys were so-so in my experiences. And Fender's bullets lacked punch.

If you're sitting on the fence about trying a different brand, try D'Addarions. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Not good

By Cosmo Murphy from GOLETA, CA on April 30, 2022

I just tried a different brand of strings and they made me realize these D'addarios are trash! I've strictly been using these for the past year and I liked how the ball ends of these were colorful and they made my guitar look cool, but I had been having some issues that I didn't realize came from using these strings until I tried a different brand!
My guitar had been buzzing on the frets no matter how many times I adjusted the bridge and the truss rod, and I have a really nice USA custom shop guitar so it was making me have a fit. These strings kind of get stuck on the nut of my guitar, which is a graphite nut and that shouldn't be happening at all. it made my really nice tuning machines feel like junk from indo.
I decided to try a different brand of strings and I will never go back to these. They might work for you, but they for me.
I'm thankful the issues I had been experiencing with my guitar came from these strings and not my instrument, its a relief!

New 1st string broke during the initial tuning process during installation, twice.

By Sweetwater Customer on October 26, 2022

While installing new strings on my American Strat today ,the 1st string, 0.010", broke during the initial tuning. It broke before the string was tuned to pitch. This is the second time in 12 months that I have had the first string of new DAddario XLs break during the initial tuning process. Two string breaks on 2 different Strats. Two new strings sets trashed. I have seen numerous complaints regarding new D'Addario strings breaking online. So I am not alone. I will not be buying any more D'Addario quitar strings.

Note: I purchased the strings in 2021. Not sure if I purchased them at Sweetwater. This is not a Sweetwater problem.

Ernie Balls are better in my opinion.

By Bleu Wilkinson-Jenkins on June 28, 2020 Music Background: Punk and blues rocker for almost a decade

A friend recommended I try these strings instead of my usual Slinky .10-.46 strings.
So I did. Although they did seem to keep the new sound longer, they broke way easier compared to the Slinkys.
Not buying again.
