MXR EVH 5150 Chorus Pedal
MXR EVH 5150 Chorus Pedal Reviews
To achieve his legendary chorus effect on songs like "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and "Little Guitars," Eddie Van Halen relies on an equally legendary chorus pedal. MXR's EVH 5150 Chorus captures the sound of that classic effect with features tailored for modern rigs. A simple 3-knob layout makes this pedal a breeze to use. Input and Output Level switches optimize your signal-to-noise performance and achieve unity throughput gain. You also get switchable true/buffered bypass operation and Mono and Stereo outputs. Whether you use it to inject your playing with texture and dimension or combine it with high-gain tones for a way-huge sound, the 5150 Chorus is a pedalboard essential.
solid chorus pedal .
I love my mxe chorus pedal . Needed one for my iconic sense the green channel is very dry . Super refreshing to have a chorus back in my pallet of tonal options . I prefer it at both knobs at 11 o'clock. Very cool pedal
Great pedal, Love it
Perfect addition to my board, the stereo option gives me that fat wide sound I wanted. Dealing with Cory at Sweetwater was a breeze, very helpful
Great find
Only had this for a few days and it sounds terrific! Have not found it's full potential yet, definitely another great EVH product.
The cause to weird sound
There's a lot of reviews with this pedal on a weird sound Eddie did his chorus pedal correct all of you just don't have an ear the reason his pedal does that weird sound on a sustained note due to lack of a sustained pickup the Frankenstein has one in it there's another cure to the lack of sustained power is an EQ before the pedal try it on a low setting it will sustain the note so the pedal does not make a note that's no longer there it makes that sound because it's trying to push when there's nothing left to push so it buzzes
"no smoking" if you need something other then life to make music you might as well just buy a fuzz pedal and blast those notes full of manure
like back to the future " I hate manure"
classic BIFF
Dang!!!
I've had this effect for a week and normally I wait a little longer to write a review but in this case no need. I've used a lot of different choruses over the years and was never totally sold on any of them but this is my holy grail to date. Instead of being redundant, read all of the other 5 star reviews and that what you have in this pedal.
Excellent Chorus
I like this Chorus very much it has a set rate a somewhat slower rate well suited to both clean and distortion tone settings. The tone is clean and clear and the pedal is obviously well made with a battery hatch easily opened to change batteries without taking bottom plate off!
EVH 5150 Chorus Pedal
This pedal is most excellent.I have used several chorus pedals over the years and this is the Holy Grail. It is more than I expected, and just excites me to use it. Amazing pedal. JB Hood
I'm having the same issue
I got this pedal after hearing it on YouTube video it sounded great and it does but there is a noise that someone else mentioned when single notes are played. My next step is to go into a retailer to see if they're all the same or if it's just mine to try to return. Not what I expected.
Great for '80s Clapton tones
Great pedal if you want that mojo tone sauce Clapton had in the 80's. I just recently learned that it was chorusing - he had an elaborate rig. The trick is a slower rate, and this pedal is ALL about that sound. It gives you tons of control over that sweet spot, and has pro features like input/output adjustment switches and a cool signal clipping light that helps you find the right levels for for instruments signal path. This will get you very close to that elusive Clapton sound, and of course you can nail Eddie's tones as well. Not a pedal for weird noises (thank God!). I love it!
Fattens your tone!
If you are looking for a pedal to fatten and add to your sound this is the pedal for you!
I usually turn it on and have the effect on low and it sounds like a soft doubler but it adds so much to the overall sound of what you are playing.
EVH MXR
The best Chorus pedal available today . Very easy to use great sounds and very durable for traveling. Do yourself a favor and purchase one !!!!!
Excellent
The chorus is beautiful and lush. When run stereo, it's absolutely fantastic. As Pete Thorn noted, leave it on in stereo with the depth turned all the way down and you have the EVH detune effect. Great in mono. Better x3 in stereo. My personal favorite chorus pedal I've tried.
Best in Stereo
Mono this is a good chorus. Run it stereo and it's fantastic. All the way down it gives you the Diver Down 1984 doubling effect. Turn it up and you get a very nice lush deep chorus. My favorite chorus pedal. Check out Pete Thorn's review on YouTube. It's spot on.
Solid tone pedal
I really like how you can make it a very subtle effect mono or stereo to just add like a dutuneish thing to your tone. Or pronounce the modulation a bit if need be.

Like Dr Frankenstein throwing the switch!!!
I'm NOT a huge pedal guy but a home musician playing rock guitar since 1982. This is one helluva special weapon in my opinion. Paired with a real tube Marshall DSL 40 combo, when you engage the pedal it's like this vibrant crisp electric burst of sonic fun!!! Have to hear it to believe it. Some may not know how to use it well to their advantage. Seems to give you that 1991 "Roundabout" tone also from the Carnal Knowledge album. Smaller than it looks too! Not your average chorus pedal at all. Check it out. Thanks to Chris Kress my sales engineer and his masterful wizardry ways!!! THANK YOU Sweetwater
EVH Chorus
I have thoroughly enjoyed this pedal and feel that it gives you so much sound for your dollar! I have been drooling over how beautiful the clean channel is with this pedal in use! OMG it is like the most luscious sound I have ever heard!! The distortion channel is so awesome also with this pedal in use and I love being able to get the earlier EVH tone! Besides this, it is amazing how this pedal opens a new door on my playing and it is so fun exploring everything else besides only EVH! This pedal and my tube screamer have made the biggest impact on my sound and I feel like I will always have this in my pedal chain! Nate is my salesperson and has always been so cool to order stuff from!
Great chorus pedal!!
The wonderful church I pastor recently purchased the EVH chorus pedal for pastor"s appreciation month and I could not be more satisfied. I have a Boss super chorus and it"s a good pedal but the EVH from MXR is in a class of its own. It sounds great for contemporary Christian music clean and also great with distortion. Thanks again to Nick Hammer and the Sweetwater team for helping get what I needed. Sweetwater is the best in the business hands down. God bless you guys
Sounds great, but one thing...
Amazing, lush, spatial, a must have modulated effect on your pedalboard. Except...when the led flickers and extinguishes, a slight fizzy crackle sound is emitted. I returned the pedal thinking it was a defective unit, but the second one did the exact same thing. I was shocked. I think there is a design flaw that needs to be worked out. I"m not seeing anyone else describing this on the net, but I anticipate I will. I noticed the issue most when I allowed a note to ring out, and as it decayed, the led would flicker (I assume due to signal becomming weaker as the note faded) and as it did this, the noise began. The pedal was isolated, and I used two different wall watt type power supplies. Super bummed it didn"t work out...
Evh 5150
Great I love it
WOW...WOW!!
I have always loved Chorus. The problem is, I find a great one for clean, and it sounds horrible with OD. I was excited to see EVH working on this with MXR. The classic "Diver Down" era sound is one of my favorites. I can say that Eddie VH never fails to come through! This pedal is great clean or with OD, and great either in front of your amp or in the loop. Just amazing. The controls are a bit unusual for a chorus, but they allow you to dial in your sound perfectly, and balance it for effects loop or direct in. Even running in stereo with the intensity "Off" produces a great sound. Home Run for MXR!
5150 chorus pedal
First sweetwater was great, got it fast the packing was nice and neat.now on to the pedal, first nice build it is a light pedal, next the plug in.It is different lots of variables just on the pedal ,team that up with a midsized board 10 pedals running two 5150 amps and it will take some time to get the placement right,2 days for me,i like it in the loops, MXR and EVH did a great job on pinning the Diver Down /OU812 sound. It's a must have if your looking that sound no other pedal will pull it off like this one.
MXR EVH 5150 Chorus Pedal
Love this pedal,great EVH tone!
Well done
This is a great chorus pedal with its own flavor. Its almost a cross between a double, chorus/phaser. Great for lead and rhythm. It can be a bit bassy so you may have to EQ your amp or adjust the tone and input/output levels a bit. I got it right where I want it and its left on most of the time now. I like a subtle chorus that sounds like the guitars are doubled and this does that very well.
