Gibson ES-335 Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst Reviews
The Gibson ES-335 is the quintessential Gibson ES (Electric Spanish) guitar. The first “thinline” archtop of its kind, the historic ES-335 is considered the standard for semi-hollowbody guitars to this day. With impeccable sounds across its wide-ranging tonal palette, the ES-335 can be found in the hands of jazz, blues, and rock players all over the globe. For 2020, Gibson brings the ES-335 to you with all the same exquisite craftsmanship and detailed appointments that made the original a smash hit when it was introduced in 1958. And as a central feature, it features a satisfyingly rounded C neck profile that harkens back to Gibson’s vaunted instruments of the late 1950s.

Yummy
I want, I want, I want!! I have played a cherry-red ES-335 as my main guitar for 20+ years. There is something inspiring about playing a first class instrument. I love my 335, and I simply wish I had another. My poor Strat feels neglected though.
So nice
This guitar is worth every penny. It's a lifetime instrument so invest your money well!
Nice! Very Nice!
Everything about this Gibson Es335 is very nice.
Plays like butter and sounds great!
Awesome guitar and support
Picked up the ES-335 after much hand-wringing any playing this and the LP Standard with my son. I was a bit concerned about the 335 because it doesn't have the thinner neck that comes on 60s LP Standard and I have small hands. I'm happy to say that this hasn't been an issue and my son and I are both delighted with this guitar. It literally makes me want to play more (our other electric is an Elite Fender Strat which is also pretty cool) and provides a very different sound than our Fender. Ben N. was fantastic to help answer questions that I had and support me through the purchase of this fantastic axe. Five stars for the guitar (the Gibson finish isn't perfect but it's good enough from an aesthetic perspective) and the support from Ben is a full-on five stars.
gibson es 335
best guitar ive ever played. sweetwater did a perfect job setting it up. played beautifully out of the box. got it a year ago, still my favorite guitar that i own.
Better than exspected
I was dreaming of this guitar for decades finally got it. Could not believe the sound and craftsmanship, simply great. Thanks to Sweetwater the dream is reality. This guitar made me play better because it is so authenic sounding and crystal clear.
The Finest
I tried all the alternatives; all the "almost as good as" models. But as soon as you play an ES335 you see why the crazy price premium isn't so crazy. You will hang on to it forever.
A Dream Guitar
I've wanted a 335 for years and I finally pulled the trigger. When I got my hands on it, I said, "Why did I wait so long?" Sure, it's not the easiest on the pocketbook but so, so worth it.
One of the best 335s I've ever played
I've been a gigging guitarist for 30 years, and have owned or played quite a few newer (standard and custom shop) and vintage Gibson ES models (60s, 70s, 80s) and this new 335 honestly holds up to them all. Sure, I'd probably give a slight edge to a broken in late 50s/early 60s model, but I'd like to keep my house (and my wife). It's not only one of the best built and best playing Gibsons I've played, but it's also one of the most versatile. I'm more of a P-90/single coil guy and can't stand muddy pickups, but these T pickups hit that perfect, balanced sweet spot with fat, jazzy warmth in the neck (but w/clarity) and great, chewy bite in the bridge pickup (not shrill). Middle position is to die for. I play through BF and tweed Fenders and a Vox AC-15 (HW) and this sounds great through all of them. My only initial concern was the neck - I'm used to 60s slim taper and I'm not a big dude, but after about a week my hand got used to it and it feels great now. I think it adds something to the massive tone.
And a special shout out to Sales Engineer Justin Sunday who goes above and beyond. He and the SW team take the sting out of buying such a nice guitar sight unseen.
An elegant addition
Have had this guitar over a few months now (and moved cross country) and it has been a much welcome addition. Its everything you expect it to be and it doesn't fall short in any way. Very fortunate to add this to my collection and would recommend anyone looking into a 335 to play one by any means!
Dream machine !
Flawless build quality
Mine was set up perfectly probably the best out of the case set up ever I have 30 guitars so I can tell from experience
Love the neck even with my smaller hands I can rip on this axe
Comfortable and lighter than my Les Pauls
Super versatile
The neck pick up is not muddy it's clear and has a bit of brightness when you dig in
It's one of my favorite guitars
Beautiful Guitar
Looks, sounds and plays beautifully. Playing the neck pickup with my California Tweed gives me the exact "smooth jazz" sound I was looking for. Having separate volume and tone controls for each pickup lets me dial in just about any sound I want when using the center pickup position.
I was worried about how big the body looked and whether it would be comfortable to play (I'm 5/4"tall). Not an issue, it's nice and comfy.
