I have a 1985 Alvarez acoustic. It's my first guitar. I've wanted to add a pickup, but have been afraid to make physical modifications to it. So I finally got up the nerve to buy this pickup since the modification is pretty invisible.
Once I got the nerve to drill a hole in the bottom for the input jack, it was all very easy to install the three pickups. The instructions are very complete and easy to follow.
So, how does it sound? Very nice. It adds volume without any extra distortion or noise. I like it a lot, and it was relatively inexpensive.
My only regret is that I didn't get one with a volume control, since this needs to be near the amp knobs to adjust. Maybe next time.

Jack not long enough to go through.I removed the jack cover adjust the nut back fit just fine.not an expert on acoustic pickups but it sounds good to me it's well worth it

I have installed three of these on Yamaha acoustic guitars for my Guitar Students. The installation is very easy once you have all the right tools, go slow and watch the YouTube videos. The sound is good and the plug-in works well so my Students can plug in to an amp or PA system when needed.

I installed this into my Martin D-35 and it sounds amazing! I couldn't be happier. I'm thinking about ripping out the K&K installed in my J-45 and replacing it with this. It's got larger transducers, a better warranty and it's plug and play all for $. It just sounds better!

Installed these in my Epiphone PR 150. Felt a little tricky installing it as the input jack is not long enough for this guitar, maybe the wood block where the input jack goes into the guitar is slightly thicker than other guitars. Although after some tinkering, I was able to put the strap button on upside down and get this to work wonderfully. The pick up sound fantastic and I am able to wear my guitar.

I had the unit installed professionally in a Yamaha guitar. The price was fairly low for this type of unit, so I was completely surprised what an awesome sound it produced. It had been recommended by a friend as I had no experience with this particular pickup. Completely satisfied with the price and, of course, with the help I always receice from Brad when dealing with Sweetwater. Highly recommend the unit and Sweetwater.

I acquired a rough Martin D-1 recently that needed some repairs. The PO also had some sort of pickup on the guitar, but crudely ripped it out. Anyhow, after fixing up the guitar, I started looking for a pickup. I wanted the sound of the Martin to come through the amp, so I did a lot of research. This pickup kept coming up. It's cheap, but I listened to a lot of sound comparisons, and to my ears, this one sounded the best. Since it's easy enough to remove, should I need to, I went ahead and ordered it and installed it on my guitar.

The "internet" was right. This pickup sounds as natural as an acoustic guitar sounds. It literally sounds like I am playing with a microphone in front of the guitar. Through my Fender 40W acoustic amp, it sounds great. Through the church's PA, it sounds equally great. I am very happy with this purchase, and am amazed that something this inexpensive can sound this good .

These are great! Balanced accoustic tone, not tinny or quickie sounding . They mix easily and work well with effects. I highly recommend these for your acoustic guitar!

These pickups were included in my Journey OF422 travel guitar, which is a really fine instrument.

What stands out is how they capture the natural acoustic sound so well. They have clarity and balance so the acoustic guitar tone is accurately rendered through PA or direct recording.
Equally great for finger-picking, strumming, or individual notes.

I also like the simplicity of passive pickups. No messing with batteries or on board controls (although the Journey internal mic and soundhole controls can be added to EP001K), just plug it in and play!

I use a touch of compression, more to balance out my playing. I don't use any DSP or other fx to enhance the pickup's sound. Straight into the PA and I'm good to go!

Because I'm so impressed with these, I'm replacing my pickups in another acoustic with the Journey pickups.

I've been using this pickup on my Mahogany GA Cutaway Travel Guitar- FF412C for almost a year, through different activities (such as recording and live stage)
The brilliant catching sound coming out during the recording stage is admiring, probably the first time hearing such a clear and rich sound straight out of a jack.
The recorded sound itself didn't need any particular adjustment.
There it comes with the lack of control of the volume, unlike other solution this one does not have a control station, therefore when it comes to live stage everything is in the hands of Sound Engineer hoping for the best to match the sound you desire.

This pick up is truly amazing especially when you consider the low cost. The tone is excellent and faithfully represents the acoustic(non plugged in) sound of the guitar. With my amp EQ set on Treble 8 Mid 7 and Bass 5 it has wonderful delivery of tone and projection of sound. My pickup was already installed when I bought my Journey guitar, a quality instrument from a company that have the customers needs in their hearts. Well done Journey!

I have a Journey Overhead OF660M. I've dragged it to Greece, Australia, Panama, and Peru. Played a bunch of gigs in the mountains, near the ocean, desert, jungle, etc, and the guitar and pickup have performed very well without a problem. I've played through decent P.A.s and many that were terrible and I always got a good sound. Clear and bold. Rarely had any feedback issues I highly recommend these under saddle pickups.

I've travelled internationally with my journeyman, which added to the trip I could sit back and enjoy playing in my hotel rooms. Wonderful Guitar, so easy to transport and to set up and breakdown in just moments. Holds tune extremely well. I'm amazed at the engineering of the Instruement and quite frankly, even more amazed at the engineering of the Travel backpack, every aspect of which has been well thought out even to the way hitching points fold away. It is true. It fits in the overhead compartment in an aircraft with no problems whatsoever, and I was able to carry my own Board bits and pieces in the Carey bag itself, so I still only had one piece of on Board luggage. I love it .

If you're looking for passive pickup that will sound the closest to the mic'd acoustic guitar look no further. This is the one. Simple instalation and amazing sound. Highly recommend.

Bought one as an alternative for a K&K pure mini and never looked back. Very close to K&K with same natural response and almost identical EQ, so what to not like about it, considering is alot cheaper

I just received a Journey Jr nylon string guitar from Journey Instruments, with this pre installed passive ( no batteries or pre amp) pickup.
The true Acoustic sound is just unbeatable. The pickup weighs nothing and works like a dream. It's so good, I ordered and received the same pickup for my Martin OM. I'm waiting to change strings before I install it, but it looks like anyone can do this easy installation.
Thank you Journey, for an amazing product.
FYI, I challenged anyone to find a line of Guitars made with such quality for close to the same prices that Journey offers. I don't know how they do it.

I own a Journey instruments "Overhead" collapsable carbon fibre guitar. I've had it about 10 years and absolutely love it. It is my go to instrument pretty much all the time, whether travelling or not. The pick-up in it, like this one, also works like a charm. I've had nothing but compliments on the sound of my guitar, plugged in and acoustically, with incredibly clear deep bass for such a small guitar. I wouldn't change a thing on it.

I can't say enough about my good experiences with Journey Instruments. I highly recommend them as a company and for all their great products, and especially guitars.

I purchased the Journey Puddle Jumper a few years ago with the EP001K installed. I have had a number of travel guitar and pickup combinations and can say that this has by far been the best combination I have ever had. The pickup amplifies the nature sound of my wooden guitar beautifully while the guitar folds up so small that I can take it as carry-on with some clothes in the side pocket too.

This is the most natural sounding pickup I've ever experience,also not really having feed back issue,strongly recommended

In the Winter of 2022 I bought a Journey FF412C from Sweetwater. I was planning a trip to Maui to be with my brother who was
struggling with Prostate Cancer. I didn't want to take any of my regular guitars on an airplane, and I had a hunch this would be
my brothers last trip. Of course the FF412C was the perfect choice for this mission, it really does fit right in the overhead.
I arrived on the Island with the instrument concealed in its case, and I had filled the body with T-shirts and other travel gear.
My brother taught me how to play decades ago, so this was important to me. He flies to Maui with his Uke.

My wife had planned to photograph the look on my brother's face as I unpacked the instrument. I put the instrument together in
about five minutes, tuned it and put it in his hands. He was amazed and delighted, which was worth the cost of the instrument to me.
The FF412C sounds excellent acoustically, it's got wonderful live tone and playability. Highs, mids and lows are all there.

But the real surprise for me (later) is the great sound of the FF4121C when plugged in. The EP001K pickup renders a fine acoustic guitar
tone. I've played it through various PA systems by now, and it seems to work well with them all. A marvel. Soundmen seem to be able to
mix it without fuss. So this instrument is a real asset onstage. It's light, it balances perfectly, has excellent action and a wonderful pickup.
Highly recommended. It also sounds good through my old pedal board, with its Fishman Pro EQ Platinum pre-amp. That's an old piece of
gear, but the EP001K works well with it and its controls. Well done, Journey Guitars. It seems that there's been some progress made in the
rendering of acoustic guitar sound by an under-saddle pickup. I am a fan now.

The JourneyTek Passive 3-piezo Pickup EP001K is great for any guitar. Makes your guitar sing, and sound just as it should. So easy to install. Within a few minutes you can plug in and be playing plugged into your amp, or PA system.

I purchased a Journey Instruments OF660M carbon fiber travel guitar which has the EP001K Passive Piezo Pickup installed as standard equipment. When I plugged the Guitar into my Fishman Loudbox Mini Amp, I was amazed at the tone and volume!

When the new FF660M model became available, I decided to upgrade and traded in the smaller OF660M for the "First Class" version of the Journey Carbon Fiber travel instrument. I was surprised to find this Guitar included the EPA01 volume control as well as the EP001K Passive Piezo Pickup system... again, I was blown away by the tone and now had fingertip control of the volume!

I was so impressed with this Journey Instruments system, that I ordered an EP001K and EPA01 and installed them into my Seagull Maritime SWS acoustic guitar. The sound is incredible. I now also have a vintage classical guitar that I would also like to amplify, and will again rely upon the quality of the EP001K pickup.

Since the time I've tried K&K pickup on one of my acoustic guitars for the first time, I found that the approach they have taken was the best for capturing the tone of that instrument.
So, after purchasing my first carbon fiber guitar from Journey Instruments (look for my demo on Youtube), I naturally wanted to equip it with a pickup that could do justice to the wonderful sound of this particular instrument, especially the amazing sustain that it produces. How delighted I was to learn that Journey Instruments offered just the pickup I was looking for.
I cannot speak as to the the ease of installation since I ordered the pickup to be set up with the guitar, but when I received both and connected it to my amplifier, I was really amazed at two things:
1. Great reproduction of the guitar's sound, and
2. very low noise of the pickup and the clarity of the signal.
I loved it so much that I went ahead and ordered the more advanced version of the pickup, with volume/EQ controls and a gooseneck mic.
But that's for an other review!

I purchased and installed the EPoo1K passive pickup in my Epiphone EJ200 and really make this great guitar sing! So nice not to have a battery for enough power going into my Fishman Loudbox and the sound is so natural and sounds like an acoustic. Would highly recomment this pickup!

I have two journey instruments carbon guitars, both fitted with the EP001K passive piezo pickup. One also has the optional volume control. Both guitars are a excellent concept and play and sound better than any travel guitar I have ever tried. The pickups are factory fitted in these guitars but are available to retro fit in any make and are a very easy fit. No drilling or wiring required other than fitting the input jack in place of the strap pin.
On both guitars the passive sound to my Laney acoustic amp is excellent. Volume across the strings is very balanced and is an accurate reproduction of the unamplified guitar sound. There is plenty of signal to drive the amp, so volume is good. The sound is clean, clear and distortion free at all amplifier volume levels, at least to my ears. This allows accurate tailoring of bass middle and treble tones from the flat sound by adjusting the amp controls. Reverb and chorus settings show a good range of depth and presence, that have not been available from other passive pickups in two other guitars from other manufacturers that I own.
Overall highly recommend as factory or retro fit. Just check with journey it will fit your guitar first.

I have used, and also installed a variety of acoustic guitar pickups over many years of playing. Some pickups were quite expensive. I was blown away by the sound of the first guitar I installed the EP0001k in. I have uninstalled and replaced other brands pickups on two guitars. I currently have four guitars with the EP001k installed, including my main guitar. I have two more guitars that I plan on installing this pickup in. I like the fact that it does not require a battery to operate. It is the only acoustic pickup I plan on using. The sound is awesome, and the price incredible.

I purchased a journey travel guitar an I love it. It sounds fantastic. It sounds so good that I installed the journey pickup in two other of my guitars. I'm a professional musician and I'm very picky ( pun intended) about my guitars.

Works well in tandem with this guitar.

The sound is superb and clear. It works better than expected and easily competes with pickups costing much more. Being in my journey instruments guitar makes it a versatile player for travel. The backpack is an awesome feature - love it!

The EP001K came with my acoustic traveler (OF422 Overhead) and provides more than enough amplification when used with any of my amps. It is easily on par with any of the other pickups I've had over the years, and I'll probably be installing this as a replacement on my Gibson next.

I feel so blessed to have this instrument to play and entertain with. The sound is full, bright, great bass response, doesn't n't change the sound of the guitar, just makes it louder. I play it thru a Spark Mini and have travelled with it to Mexico and other vacation destinations. Always get asked about it and great comments on the sound.

I have 2 of these pickups in guitars currently. I had a couple of guitars (000 and a single 0) that I didn't want to drill or add an undersaddle pickup. After a bunch of research I picked Journey instruments under bridge based purely on sound performance I had seen reviews of. I honestly was skeptical given how economically priced they are compared to others. I have to say I'm impressed. With a good EQ/DI, it is possible to get a very good acoustic/wooden tone and feel from this system. I have these in guitars I would primarily use at small acoustic ensemble or solo gigs and they perform really well. This might not be my first choice for an acoustic playing in a loud electic band. Not that it couldn't be done, but there are other choices with more feedback resistance for that application. And I have that covered for those kind of gigs. For everything else, and for the money, this pickup is hard to beat. I was nervous about the installation, but with the instructions and provided jig, I had no issues installing these in either guitar.

I own 3 Journey guitars with this pickup. I am a full-time professional entertainer. I perform on cruise ships, resorts, poolside, beaches, and many more exotic locations. My Journey guitars and the EPoo1K pickup have never failed me. The clean tones and resonance is perfect for me. I have a Journey OF882 guitar with this pickup inside and I love it. It's clean and crisp and works flawless everything I plug it up. The guitar by itself is flawless. I'm constantly getting compliments on the sound and portability of the guitar. Never had an issue carrying it on a plane. I would definitely recommend this passive pickup for any instrument.
