Great guitar
Have always loved the look of SGs and decided to buy this as my first new guitar. It got to my house on time and perfectly in tune. It was setup great and I know they took care to pack this as well as they could. The pickups don't get muddy unless you actually try to make them muddy. Great for AC/DC and other classic rock bands. This has been the best experience I've had buying something online and I will definitely buy all my gear in the future from Sweetwater!
Gibson vs Epiphone
I had a Gibson SG in the past and regret selling it. Other guitars are just not as light and comfortable. So decided to get another one, but was also considering the Epiphone. Long story short, I ended up buying both. I love both, but there is a reason why Gibson is more expensive. The Plek'd neck just plays great. On the Epiphone I have to keep the action a little higher to avoid some notes choking out when bending. Also the tone of the Gibson pickups seems slightly better to my ears. One complaint about the Gibson is that the volume pots don't seem very smooth. But that wasn't a big enough deal to keep me from buying it. And this may be an issue specific to my guitar, others may be smoother, but I wanted this SG because it was the lightest one they had in stock. In spite of the Gibson having advantages over the Epiphone, I tend to play the Epiphone more. I keep it on a stand in my room so it's easily accessible. I tend to baby the Gibson and store it in the case. But as I said in the beginning, I love them both.
When I can't/don't play my Gibson: this is the one.
Two years ago, I purchased a Gibson SG Standard. It quickly became my favorite instrument. There are some places that I do not feel comfortable bringing my Gibson due to fear of it becoming damaged or stolen. When in these situations, I find myself missing my SG. My solution: purchase an SG type guitar that I felt more comfortable bringing to these types of places. The Epiphone SG Standard was my choice, and a good choice it was. This thing is great! I do recommend the Sweetwater Plek service.
Outstanding guitar - can’t put it down!
I'd been let down by another retailer that rhymes with "shmitar benter" so decided to give Sweetwater a shot, and boy am I glad I did!
I was originally in the market for a cheaper Les Paul with a bolt on neck, and luckily for me, there weren't any in stock. I browsed what was actually available, and came across this beauty! I've always like the SG but never had the urge to own one. It was a small price increase from what I'd intended to buy, but I got a steal on a demo, so thought why not.
Communication was great, shipping was fast, although I did catch (and yell at) the fedex driver when he THREW THE BOX DOWN by my front door, it's clearly marked fragile, but that's another story.
The quality of this guitar is wonderful, far superior to the Squiers in the same price range. I expect to get many years of joy out of this axe!

I've had mine for a couple months now. For the money it's practically perfect. I got it for playing down tuned fuzz metal. Man this guitar is just it. Sound, looks, feel. Plays well with any style of music. I can't recommend it enough.

I was saving up for a Gibson SG, but decided to go with the Epiphone instead, and I'm very glad I did! Sweetwater set up the guitar perfect, and I've been very pleased with everything about this guitar.

Epiphone's new "Inspired by Gibson" line is truly something else. This guitar is freaking amazing. Epiphone completely got it right and hit the nail on the head. Go play one, you'll see. What makes me incredibly happy is that Epiphone has solved the neck heavy SG problem. Not on this guitar! The slim taper neck feels and plays great. I'm a Tele guy now but I have owned two SGs over my life, one back in the 80s that was super cheap basic Gibson that sounded like garbage and the other was an Epiphone SG-400. I always liked the expensive Gibson versions both in sound and feel but neither of the two SGs I owned ever lived up to what I wanted them to be and eventually got rid of both of them.
This new 2020 SG standard puts them both to shame both in sound and feel. The finish is beautiful in my opinion and quality all around. I completely LOVE the new headstock design! The Alnico pickups sound fantastic and have so much ooomph. The SG snarls and squeals just like I want it to, but I can also get a really nice humbucker warmth to them it as well. I play through a Boss Katana amp and I'm just blown away at what this thing can do. Definitely make use of the tone knobs, on these guitars you can really get a wide range of tones using the differnt pickups and the tone controls. I'm just so pleased and happy with this guitar in every way! It looks and sounds like a guitar that cost WAY more than it did. Like I said, Epiphone completely nailed it.
Sweetwater also impressed me to no end. I have always wanted a black SG as the two I owned earlier in life were both cherry. I had played the new model SG Standard some months ago but then only the cherry finish was available. I decided to wait for the ebony finish to come out. So while all this craziness in the world is going on I see that the guitar I want is available and ready for shipping. I ordered and within 48 hours, boom, delivered to my door and even setup exactly how I wanted. David M. at Sweetwater was the man on the spot and I'm so impressed with the setup and attention to detail that I received. Couldn't be happier! I'm seriously in love with this guitar.
epiphone SG Standard
I love this guitar! Very easy and comfortable to play. The neck is awesome. I was a little worried because I hadn't played an SG before. Im an intermediate guitar player
and wanted an SG as tribute to Tony Tommi and Angus Young. The set up was great and it was actually pretty much in tune out of the box. Ive heard complaints about the pickups online but I think they sound great. I like the darker sound. I don't see any flaws and the guitar
looks incredible. Extremely happy with this purchase.
