Exceeded my expectations

By David Hudgens from NORWICH, CT on March 18, 2024

I bought this beauty because I loved the color. It's even better than the pictures. I have the Prophecy which is an amazing guitar and didn't expect it to be as good. It actually is but with a different skill set. It's light, versatile, and has better clean tones. The fit and finish is superb for the price. I couldn't be happier. Epiphone really delivers a good quality guitar. The photo shows both of them.

My first maple top single cut

By Chris rardin from Illinois on March 7, 2024 Music Background: Percussionist, bassist,. rhythm guitar,.

It's a literal beast of a guitar,at first the shorter scale length was something different to get used to.,but the tones from the maple top are truly awesome,I didn't have the $for a full blown Gibson.,but this little beauty is just fine.,it chugs like crazy and it hits the tone iv been looking for since I started playing.,and it's looks are killer.

My new Epiphone Les Paul Studio plays as well as it looks.
Sweetwater is my go to place when I'm looking for that special deal where I can't find no where else. Looking to buy more off of Nate Burkhardt and Sweetwater in the future. I forgot to mention a very timely delivery.

Thanks Nate

Very happy

By OldGary from St Robert, MO on September 16, 2021

I was going to buy the big brother Gibson but couldn't justify the extra $ at my skill level (mid-level beginner I guess) so I got this and couldn't be happier. The coil splitting and tone adjustments all work fine with clear distinct changes to the sound.

Was looking for a Gibson, but this Epiphone will do fine.

I was looking for a Smokehouse Les Paul for awhile. I came across a model that was sold as a husk on Ebay. It was ideal, in that my finances aren't good enough for a Gibson, and I have boxes of guitar parts I have saved over the years. It turned into an outstanding custom build. This Studio makes for a real pro playing and sounding (not to mention it's outstanding looks)guitar. It has become my instant favorite.

This is one beautiful instrument!

By Pete Palmeri from Waterloo, NY on July 20, 2020

I don't know what I can say about this, it has met or exceeded my expectations. This beauty is my 9th Epiphone and I'm not disappointed. If I had to find a flaw, then it would be the strings. They left an awful residue on my fingers (looked like I was working on a car). Some suggested that they may have been old stock and had begun to oxidize (I don't know). Anyway that should in no way sway your decision if you want a really nice guitar.

Awesome

I absolutely love this guitar. It plays so well. I have 14 guitars and this is one of my favorites. Sweetwater is such a great place to do business, everyone is so professional and knowledgeable. Many times repeat customer, Bones

Great guitar, great customer service

By Chuck Barber from Lexington, GA on June 18, 2020

Initially i was going to get an Epiphone LP 100. However, it was not in stock. I waited a bit then decided to pay a bit more for a guitar which was available.

I spoke with Ashton Vaudt about this and he cancelled the 100 and shipped out Smokehouse Burst Studio that day. It arrived when it was supposed to and since i have had a great time getting back to playing. (I haven't played much since the late 1980s).

The guitar plays well, stays in tune and sounds great. I have zero concerns or complaints.

Ashton is a great person with whom to work and, while I am sure everyone at Sweetwater does a great job, I will continue working with Ashton. He is a great guy and a great representative for Sweetwater.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

By Ash from Arkansas on June 5, 2020 Music Background: Novice

Decided to try to pick up guitar again recently. Previously played over 10 years ago and never made it past novice. One thing that annoyed me on my previous try was the quality of the beginner guitar I had. Since I'd be buying this one on my own instead of asking my parents (I was a teenager), I wanted to buy something with more quality. A guitar that I didn't feel like I needed to upgrade shortly after learning.

This fits the bill perfectly. I haven't been able to put it down since I've gotten it. Only thing holding me back is trying not to get too bad of blisters from playing for the first time in years.

I'm very impressed with the quality of everything on this guitar. The pick ups sound great. I've had no problems with keeping the guitar in tune. The action is low. My hands fit around the neck easily (small hands). There's no fret buzzing and everything is sanded down well with no sharp edges. And of course, it's an absolutely gorgeous guitar. I searched for flaws and could find none. I could not stop looking at this guitar for days.

Thanks to Epiphone and Sweetwater for such an incredible guitar. It definitely makes learning that much easier with such good equipment at such an affordable price.

The hype is REAL!

When I first heard about the new 2020 Epiphone line I'll admit that I wasn't 100% sold on them. I told myself that if all they did was change the headstock shape, there was no reason for me to buy one. When the reviews and demos started coming in, I quickly realized that Epiphone/Gibson had done a lot more to improve these already great value instruments than just change the headstock shape. The upgraded electronics, great pickups and hardware and nuts really brought these instruments closer to Gibson's than they had ever been.
I was originally interested in getting an SG Custom, but as that was on back order, I decided to go with a studio instead. And I couldn't be happier with my decision. The finish on my particular guitar is AWESOME! I wanted to show it off so much that I took off the pick guard so that more can be seen. And let me tell you, this thing is more than a looker. The CTS pots are great. They really do let you control your volume and tone all the way through the sweep of the knob. The amount of control is great. The graphtech nut is a welcome upgrade and I have had zero issues with string binding or tuning stability. Lastly, the Alnico Classic pickups ROAR! They sound so good clean, dirty, overdriven, and pushed to the max. I have been able to get tons of different tones with my guitar. I couldn't be happier! I really don't think you will ever be able to get closer to a Gibson than these new Epiphone's. They are SPECTACULAR!
A big thanks to Jimmy Hart for his great service. He has always treated me right and is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Sweetwater, they can't be beat!

Awesome Guitar!! Beautiful

Amazed of how great it sound and it feels playing it.
It's a beautiful Smokehouse Burst color that will look great for years.

You've come a long way baby.

By Dave from AZ on February 11, 2022 Music Background: hobbyist and enthusiast.

As being once an owner of a 79 Gibson Les Paul custom (black and gold), I've experienced perfection. The newer line up Epiphone Les Paul's aren't quite there, but they are darn close. I bought this Studio smokehouse burst. Everything from the quality of materials to the workmanship is top notch. It blew me away. The playability needs a bit of tweaking, but nothing major. From the sounds to the looks and everything in between... Epiphone... You've come a long way baby. I am as pleased or more with this than any other guitar I've bought in the last 30 years. I will get more.

Fabulous Beginner Guitar

By Brian from Los Angeles on December 8, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

Having played exclusively acoustic for a few years, I decided to take a leap to an electric. The Epiphone Les Paul Studio is a wonderful introductory instrument for someone looking to take a first leap into electric guitar playing and discover what they need, want, and like in the instrument. Having also handled a Gibson Les Paul Studio, I can say that in terms of look and feel, this affordable option is nearly identical to its older brother, with only a few notable quality differences. The first being that the pickups aren't the best and the second being that the volume/tone control knobs have a very small range (they don't do much). For the price, however, I would argue this is the best guitar you'll find of its class by a long shot. Not to mention it's beautiful. I'd highly recommend getting Sweetwater's custom set-up option. The extra cost is certainly worth it as very few guitars are playable right out of the box, and this would be no exception.

Great Beginner Guitar That Will Probabaly Last A Long Time

By Michael A on June 13, 2020

So this is my first ever guitar. To be honest I chose it mostly because I love the way it looks. After learning more about guitars as I took lessons I'm glad I chose it. I mostly plan on play rock, blues, and jazz. I love the tone of this guitar for the type of things I want to play. I'm not an expert on guitars, but to my eyes it seems well built and it's comfortable to handle. The only deal breaker for me, and this is a personal thing, is that the nut width feels a bit small and it's very hard to play some chords since I have very fat hands and end up muting nearby strings. It's a great guitar and I'm doing my best to play chords on it, but it might not end up being great for someone like me. I'd highly recommend this guitar if you have average size hands and want something with a nice warm tone.

Great Working Class Guitar

By Wylie Wildt from SOUTH HAVEN, MI on February 1, 2024 Music Background: Guitarist since 1987

I bought a heavier model at 8 pounds and 10 ounces hoping to get a darker, deeper and more "growlier" tone and I got it. Having the option to say "Hey, get me the heaviest one of this model" (although there was one a couple ounces heavier but mine has the best finish of those available) is what will keep me coming back to Sweetwater for years to come. I really love having this ability. I can't tell you how many floor salesmen I pissed off in the past by asking for the guitar that weighs the most. For the sort of music I play, it's kind of a big deal. It serves the music well.

I just spent the last two hours with my new Epi plugged into my Friedman Little Sister.
Wow. It sounds like something out of the past. It's very heavy and loves to scream when crank I the gain and put the volume on 6. It's bass-y and grindy at the same time. Those Classic Alnicos pair well with hot tubes. Clean tones at the neck pickup were glassy and smooth. As far as tone goes, this thing is a winner. Though, the Friedman undoubtedly has something to do with that.

There are a couple of negatives, however. The tuners are pretty bad and they will be replaced with locking Grovers. Out of the box, the G string refuses to stay in tune. I think, for now, a fresh pack of Boomers and a couple of adjustments will solve that. I've also never been a fan of the four-knob configuration but it was the tone I was looking for more than the features so that really doesn't matter. Yes, I know it was made in China and yes that bothers me a little but I'm a working man with a single income. I'd rather buy a value vs something valuable. And considering this guitar will be getting worked a lot, spending only a few days pay for it makes sense. No, it's not as well-built as my Yamaha or my Custom Carvins, but it will work very well on stage. I also wish the back finish matched the top but that doesn't have anything to do with how awesome it sounds and nobody sees the back anyway. It just would have been a nice touch.

Overall, I'm excited to have another Les Paul in the stable and I expect to beat the absolute hell out of this guitar. It's perfect for heavier tones like metal and stoner/doom but is also classic rock ready.

Epiphone vs Gibson

By Sweetwater Customer on January 18, 2023

Been playing for over 40 years and have owned Gibsons and some other big names and yes they might look better as they should for what you pay for them. But looks don't make them play you do. And you can upgrade any Epiphone with the money you have left over by not buying a Gibson. And still have enough money to buy you a decent amplifier. Keep on picking.

Serious manufacturing issues.

By WILLIAM HAWKINS from Easton, MD on February 23, 2024 Music Background: Playing keyboards since 1968. Beginner at guitar.

The guitar arrived without issues from shipping. The nut was much higher on the #6 string side than the #1 string side. Enough that a nickle could be placed between the 1st fret and the bottom of the #6 string. The bracket mounting the pickguard to the guitar body was crooked. The pickguard was also mounted way too high on an angle. I'm really surprised at the flaws in this one. I've purchased other Epiphone guitars that had no problems. Lesson learned.
