Epiphone Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar - Alpine White Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Mahogany Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Alpine White

The Les Paul Custom was one of the classiest of the Gibson line. After Les Paul himself requested a high-end version of his signature model, the Les Paul Custom was born. Featuring an all-mahogany body, an ebony fingerboard, decadent binding, and ornate inlay work, he got what he asked for. The Epiphone Les Paul Custom faithfully re-creates the magic of the original Les Paul Custom down to the tiniest detail. It's made with the same mahogany body, features gorgeous binding and inlays, and sounds killer when you plug it in. The SlimTaper neck profile ensures playability while reliable tuning machines make sure your tuning is spot on. The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is the kind of guitar that you don't want to pass up.

Happy Birthday to Me

By James Gough from Inglewood, CA on April 10, 2024

I bought this one for my birthday,I have a few Epiphone Les Paul's but this one stands out.The headstock is on point and the Alpine White is beautiful.I also like the feel of the neck as I play.

I am absolutely stunned this is an Epiphone

By Jason from McKinney, TX on March 8, 2024

I'm a Gibson snob to be honest. Not because of the name but I love the feel of nitro and the tones. Other than the Joan Jett olympic special (which is amazing BTW) I haven't owned an Epiphone in years. The last one I had was from around 2005 with a thick poly finish, subpar electronics, shoddy fretwork, and poor feel overall. I had done months of research on this model and after seeing all the positive changes over the years, I took the plunge. This thing is absolutely perfect in every way! The poly finish is thinner than years past, the probuckers scream and give me all the classic LP tones from its Gibson counterparts, and the ebony fretboard is smooth as glass. No gritty frets or tool marks on my example. The newer (old) Kalamazoo headstock looks beautiful with the binding. It's also the best playing Epiphone I've ever laid hands on. Low action with zero buzz straight out of the box. This thing is an absolute steal for the price and there is nothing on it that I would want or have to modify. I'm now deciding if I want the black or blue to be my next one.

Buy it now.

Beautiful, crisp, and solid.

Ridiculous Great Value, Plays Better than Many Gibsons

By Mike from Michigan on January 3, 2024 Music Background: Cover band, rock, 70-90's, VH, Sabbath, AC/DC, mainstream rock

I own this black beauty as well as other Gibsons. It's flawless and setup was spot on. Biggest unknown was the pickups, but they sound great, and the coil splits give another dimension to tone. Great value for the money. I can afford to buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom, but it would be a waste of money. This guitar is really that good.

I'm impressed

By pat cunningham from leesburg, OH on October 3, 2023

I am a nobody, but I like a good guitar, les paul nut, worth every penny. I just ordered one in black. With a 9 guage set up. Looking forward to it. Don't hesitate.

Sounds great, looks great

By Kelvin Mischo from Indianapolis, IN on September 26, 2023

I sold a Gibson Melody Maker and got this guitar instead. Even though it says Epiphone, this guitar feels like the more high end guitar. I'm getting sounds I've heard on records where I was previously chasing pedals to try to get that tone. Great guitar!

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Alpine White

By Chris on September 19, 2023 Music Background: Classic Rock and Classic Metal

All I have to say is WOW! What a great guitar for the money, I had Sweetwater install a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and had it set up with my favorite Ernie Ball Slinky strings. Looks great and plays even better! I'm a big Randy Rhoads fan, so I always wanted a white Les Paul Custom without breaking the bank, Epiphone is building great guitars now! Andrew is my sales guy and Sweetwater is the best! Thank You!

Custom les paul

By Sweetwater Customer from FL on August 25, 2023

Awesome guitar sounds and feels great. Neck a little thinner than I'm use to on a les paul but it makes it faster to play due to I play metal and 80s rock. It's a gorgeous guitar very happy with it.

Epiphone LP Custom

By Melody from Georgia on July 18, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate player

I'm not really a Les Paul player. I'm much more inclined to pick up a tele or strat. That being said, I really enjoy having this as part of my collection. It looks like it should be much more expensive than it is. It's very comfortable to play.

My only gripe was the pickups. Perhaps if I had played around with them a bit I might have found their sweet spot. Instead I opted for a 59 in the neck and a Saturday Night Special in the bridge. The tone is to my liking now.

Shout out to Gregg Block at Sweetwater!

Not getting any cheaper

Impressed

By Pat Cunningham from Leesburg Ohio on March 7, 2023 Music Background: 30 year player and always learning

I purchased this Epiphone because of the reviews I seen . I'm blown away. Just get your ego over that the headstock doesn't say Gibson and buy one of these Epiphone les paul custom and I promise you won't regret it.

Better then I expected

By pat cunningham from leesburg, OH on February 16, 2023

30 year player on and off. I have owned many Gibson les paul standard 60s and 50s. Beautiful guitar's to say the least but worth paying 3000+dollars for is outrageous. Purchase this Epiphone custom and I'm blown away. To tell the truth if I can put my ego away and get over the head stock (much better than before) thank you Epiphone it will be in my hands all the time. For the price worth every penny. Don't hesitate cause they will only be going up in price. Good luck keep strumming.

Love this guitar

By Stephanie from NY on February 9, 2023

I got this for my husband after purchasing a Gibson LP custom since he seemed really interested in Epiphones version. This guitar is amazing. It sounds great. Slightly hot but not too intense and still offers variety in tone. The quality and look of the guitar is great as well. You'd think this guitar is worth way more than it's priced at. The Ebony fretboard is very smooth and easy to play on. The neck shape is different than a 50s style LP custom, as this has more of a modern d shape neck. Something to be mindful of. The only slight complaint is that the frets could be filed a little better. Other than that, this guitar ticks all the boxes. It makes you want to pick it up and play every time you look at it. Great for beginners and pros.

Epiphone LP Custom

By Thomass from OH on January 12, 2023

I have owned 8 Epiphone Les Pauls, a Gibson Les Paul, and a Gibson Flying V . This Epi. LP is by far the king of them all. In every way. This thing feels like a $3000 guitar when you start jamin. It's that guitar that inspires you like it expects more out of you when you play it…. you know what I'm sayin? I know you do. :)

Epiphone Les Paul Custom - Alpine White

By Joe from WV on December 16, 2022 Music Background: Semi-Amature-professional Guitar/Ukulele player and Drummer.

I've been playing all kinds of guitars for about 40 years now, and lately I'd been looking at a couple of the lower end Gibson Les Pauls, the Tribute and the Studio. I was in a music store one day and saw/held both of them and I wasn't very impressed. SO, I ordered the Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Alpine White, because I've never owned a white guitar before, and I just trusted it would be good. WOW! The guitar was perfect. I had to tune it up, but it plays great, sounds good, and the pickups are hot enough to have a good Rock tone, but not too hot. They have good clarity. Honestly, I used to laugh at Epiphones, but now I'm really impressed with them. For only $, this Epiphone Paul is a great guitar. I figure, IF I ever become a Rock Star, maybe I'll spend $ on a nice Gibson Les Paul. But for playing at home or even gigging around town, for the money, you can't beat this guitar. And the Alpine White looks even better in person! I'm really glad I bought it and that I bought it from Sweetwater. The people at Sweetwater really take care of their customers and are so great to work with. If you're worried about buying an Epiphone because it's not a Gibson, don't worry... the new Epiphones are really nice. AND I got an Epiphone Les Paul Case for it, and the case is also really nice! I would highly recommend this guitar whether you're a new player or even if you've been playing for decades like me. My only complaint is that this guitar doesn't come in Purple.

Fantastic

A Killer Les Paul

By Zippo from Kent Ohio on September 9, 2022 Music Background: 30 years of Prog-Sludge, heavy "Rawk" riffing and Blooze.

I've owned a few of the new "Inspired by Gibson" line, but this is absolutely the best looking guitar I've owned in quite a few years. And it came setup very well. All I needed to do was add a little neck relief and put my favorite strings on.
Personally, I really like the Probuckcker 2&3 pickups. They're a great fit for my style of playing. (Ya just gotta dial 'em in). They're almost as good as the Burstbuckers on my Epiphone '59 Les Paul. But that's a totally different guitar.(with a bland finish, to be honest) I'm finding myself reaching for this Custom more than any of my other guitars, simply because it's the best looking, by a MILE!
Mine weighs in at exactly 9 lbs., the tuners are doing their job well, and the Ebony fretboard looks and feels amazing. I'm glad I went with the white finish, pictures don't do it justice. It's a genuine beauty. I was on the fence about buying this guitar. Now I'm only regretting waiting so long.

Really don't see the reason to buy the real deal

By Tony from NJ on May 25, 2022 Music Background: Rock/Metal

I had to pre-order this and thought it would take an eternity to receive. Surprised when it came in about 3 weeks later. Matt from Sweetwater was awesome to work with. I did get mine plek'd so I can't comment how the frets are from the factory. Wow, just wow, this guitar is absolutely gorgeous. If I'm not playing it, I'm staring at it. I'm not the biggest fan of gold hardware but something about this Les Paul is beautiful. Plays like butter, silky smooth. Can't find a single blemish or fault. Stock pickups are great sounding too. Has a bit of weight to it but I'm a big guy and prefer a little heavier of a guitar. I played an actual Gibson LP Customer which costs about $ more. Is it just as nice? not exactly, but it's real close, however it's no where near $ better. If this guitar was twice it's cost it'd be worth it. It's amazing what's coming out from Epiphone and Squier these days.

So Far So Good

By Ira Henke from Northern Michigan on April 16, 2022 Music Background: Current guitar student

I've had it for almost 2 weeks. It's my first Les Paul but I took it over to a friend's house who has a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Classic. I played them both through the exact same pedal chain and amp. The classic did sound just a little bit better, but it didn't sound $ better. Not even close.

I'm playing through a fender tube amp with a decent pedal board, and this thing just screams. I've owned a 335 and a flying V and several Fenders. Nothing comes close to this for my personal taste. I love it so much.

I know that once I pay off my amplifier, I'm probably definitely going to upgrade to Gibson LP Modern, and once I get that I will probably hate this thing in comparison, but until then weeeeee!!!

Great Playability and sound

By Vivian S from Sterling VA on November 7, 2021 Music Background: Church Musician

I got this guitar to replace my entry level Les Paul. I don't what it is about the neck shape but it's really has great playability. Love the sound I get out of it both the neck and bridge.

Incredible deal!!

By Cody Smalley from Madison, WI on October 21, 2021

I saw this beauty and became smitten. The closest thing that I have for a single-cut LP is an Ibanez Artcore. Due to the guitar being on back order and the current supply chain insanity, I didn't know how long it'd take to get but my sales rep was helpful (Thanks, Roc!) and I got this less than a month after ordering.

First, this guitar is stunningly beautiful. When you look closely, the white edge of the fretboard and binding are scuffed in places, but it's not something you can see from afar. The frets aren't sharp and are well-done and the ebony fingerboard is wonderful. I have long fingers and the neck is very accommodating compared to my superstrats. The electronics are solid as are the tuners.

I had Sweetwater do a setup, so it just needed a quick tuning right of the box and it was immediately ready.

Couldn't be happier with this guitar.

Was that SO HARD Gibson?

By Sweetwater Customer on August 27, 2021

For years I have toyed with the idea of buying an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, but could never pull the trigger for two reasons: (1) A rosewood fretboard looks unnatural, even off-putting on a Les Paul Custom, and (2) the goofy looking headstock. The 2020 Epi LP Custom is a BIG step in the right direction. Cheers Gibson, you finally created a version of the guitar that is similar enough to the original to win over us holdouts. I actually have a Gibson Les Paul Custom, a 96 in wine red, so it's possible for me to compare the two first hand and I must say, the Epi looks fantastic. I never understood why Gibson insisted on the headstocks being so different. Fender doesn't seem to have a problem with shaping the headstocks on their standard and Squier series to match their original, higher-end models and I've bought a ton of their guitars over the years. I think that it makes a big difference, since the price gap between a standard and an American Fender might be double, but the price difference between an Epi and a real Gibson might be four or five times as much. I'm happy that Gibson finally came around and delivered us a guitar worthy of holding the Les Paul Custom title.

Amazing guitar

Great value for an excellent guitar!

By Bill Alexander from Minnesota on April 26, 2021 Music Background: Armchair Rockstar, Guitar enthusiast and all around music lover

While contemplating what kind of new guitar to buy, I must have watched hundreds of hours of videos about Epiphone and how they are "back". Having never really played a Les Paul type guitar, I decided to give them a try. After talking with Todd Cotten and discovering a financing deal too good to pass up, I decided to pull the trigger on a Gibson 60's Les Paul and an Epiphone Les Paul Custom.(Gibson in separate review)I am blown away by the quality of the Epiphone! I'm not one to go looking for the tiniest flaws but I can say that nothing jumps out at me. Solid built, quality components. The binding is awesome and adds that little bit extra that makes a huge difference. Some online Gibson snobs pick apart Epiphone but if you are thinking about buying one, I say do it! You won't be disappointed if it's anywhere near the quality that I recieved, right out of the box. The very knowledgeable Todd Cotten made it an easy going, low pressure experience. Thanks a million to Todd, Sweetwater and Epiphone for a truly amazing guitar for a great price!

Awesome Les Paul

Great Guitar it really makes tribute to a Gibson Les Paul Custom

By erick from NJ on February 20, 2023

Im impressed with the quality of the new Epiphones Les Pauls this guitar is almost perfect I just dont like the fact that the pickups are advertised as PAF Pickups, Dont take me wrong the probuckers sound great but are not PAF. other than that the guitar really looks and almost have the feel of a real Les Paul custom

The best Les Paul Custom you'll get for the money

By Chip from Las Vegas on May 29, 2020

Man I fell in love with this thing. The pick ups are so much better than I expected and it just feels so solid and correct. I can play it for hours or just sit and stare at it for hours. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the neck binding near the body has black marks (probably from the ebony fingerboard) but it's my only complaint so far.

Epiphone have come a long way

By Steven Cutler from MANNING, SC on October 17, 2023

I played my first Epiphone in the mid 80's. I worked at a music store that was a Gibson dealer. Over the years we had many different Epi's on the walls, and I never found one that I would actually buy. Basically they were crap. Materials and finish were not good. Almost no QC. Skip to today. I recently bought this custom about a month ago. Let me just say, I was amazed at the quality. Fit and finish are stunning for the price. It's night and day different than the first ones I played in the 80's. The slim taper neck has taken some getting used to. I like 50's necks. The guitar is beautiful and I love the new head stock. I went ahead and put locking grovers on it just because I think all guitars should come with them. The pots are full size and the wiring is pretty good. The only weaknesses I've found are the pick ups. They just sound a little muddy to me. Not as clear as my Gibby les paul. And the ends of the nut need to be rounded off, theyre too squared at the ends. I will say that it's a great guitar for the price. Well worth it. I'll be buying a black one in the near future for sure.

It's Good

By Alex on October 6, 2022

In short, this guitar is good. I am very happy with my purchase. The specific guitar I have is very resonant, light (for a Les Paul) and looks sharp. However, my main complaints involve the appearance of the instrument. For the uninitiated, you may not notice some of the flaws, but the longer you look, the more they might bother you. In that respect, I am slightly annoyed that there are small flaws, but alas it is an import guitar made to be economical. However, I stand by the fact I am satisfied with my instrument. The stock pickups sound good and the setup out of the box was manageable. I started taping off the fretboard and using steel wool on my guitars to polish up the frets and of course use my preferred set of strings and I was even more impressed. Plays great and the ebony board is definitely a plus as well. Overall, if you're looking for a Les Paul Custom, this will probably meet your expectations at an affordable price point.

A Nice Instrument

By Christopher Noetzel from salem, NH on April 7, 2022

Mine came really well set up, needing only a tweak to lower the action. It's very comfortable to play and sounds good. I will say it's not a Gibson...but considering the price difference, it's a great value. Other than a snapped off three way switch (must have been from shipping), the guitar came clean and unflawed. It's beautiful to look at for sure and has been fun to play. I most certainly would recommend but do not expect it to rival a Gibson, it does not.

Epiphone Les Paul Custom

By Jeff from Minnesota on April 6, 2022 Music Background: Amateur

I've always wanted an alpine white LP custom, but never wanted to cough up that Gibson money. Enter the Epiphone LP custom. At just under $, it's an expensive offering from Epiphone, but still cheaper than the most modestly priced entry level Gibson LP. Aesthetically, this guitar is gorgeous. The binding is marvelous. The inlayed ebony fingerboard is a revelation. The white paint is deep and flawless. The gold hardware ties it all together. As far as playability goes, its not bad. Frets could be polished more and there's a minor amount of buzz around the 12th fret. Sustain is still decent. The pickups aren't great, but that's to be expected. The pots feel kind of cheap, but function well. The grover style tuning pegs are good. All things considered, I feel like this guitar is an excellent value. A good setup and upgrading the pickups would definitely take this beautiful guitar to the next level.

Not a Gibson, Finish quality lacking

By Sweetwater Customer from SoCal on March 17, 2022 Music Background: 20+ years playing guitar

Arrived from Sweetwater with a setup which was nice, but from the 15th higher had NOTICEABLE burrs. Not "slice your finger open", but definitely annoying. I'm surprised Sweetwater didn't catch this, but I was waiting on one to arrive, I asked my sales dude and POOF! One was miraculously in stock. I don't think it was given a 55 point inspection, or even a 5 point for that matter.
The neck profile is the typical Epiphone neck I've experienced with all their guitars: wide and a thin to me. It's NOT like any Gibson Les Paul I've played, and that's many. Based on the neck profile being a dead giveaway that it's an Epiphone, the blindfold tests between them and Gibson make me laugh.
Anyway, I give 3 stars because unless I pay for a custom built, one-off guitar that is truly handcrafted (5 stars) all guitars I rate are no higher than 4 stars. Since this arrived with fret burrs and the knobs and pots felt cheap when operating, I give 3 stars.
I replaced the wiring for 50s style, gutted the pups for a SD 59N and SD Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge. Now I'm happy with it. I'd never pay full price for a real Gibson Les Paul Custom so I bought one with the looks and tailored it to my liking. Then I used the remaining money saved to buy a new Mesa Boogie amp, lol.
