Jack Casady Bass

By Rik Kurtz from Tampa Florida on February 19, 2024 Music Background: blues sop 40 soft rock

This is an excelleny bass by all standards! I have 2!! a gold top and the burgundy. I have a few basses, Hofner, Guild, Rickenbacker and of course Fender. But after living a while with my gold top I ordered the burgundy. this I think is going to be my "GO TO" bass. It played great and is not heavy. My advice, check one out if you can and you'll buy it. You won't be sorry!!!

I have played bass many years,had a lot of different brands,have always been a fender guy and still am, have a p bass and a j bass, but got the itch for another bass,was looking on line and saw this jack casady model,the great reviews are accurate, for a $ instrument I am very impressed my p bass was $ 10 years ago, this epiphone jc model looks,sounds and plays great right out of the box,would recommend this bass guitar.

High Quality

By Ronnie from So Cal on December 16, 2020 Music Background: Retired Pro

I was searching for an upgrade on my bass rig and purchased a popular Tube amp which I immediately sent back. None of my 8 basses sounded good through the new amp/cab. So I turned my thoughts towards a bass I've had an interest in since it's debut.
Back in the early 70's I owned an all black fretless with Tapewounds on it. I didn't play fretless at the time, so inevitably it was sold. Remorse. Recently, I started looking at the hollow-bodies that are available. I'm a smaller player, so size was a thing for me as the hollow body basses can get big and uncomfortable. Not following my criteria, I went ahead and allowed my wife to gift me this new bass. :whistle:
After YouTubin' it and deciding against certain models, I took my chances and bought an Epiphone Jack Casado Sig. WOW!! Incredibly well made high quality bass! Shipped to me in one day! Sweetwater! Coast to coast free!
Finish=Flawless
Intonation=Perfect
Hardware=Nickel
Frets=good no sprout

From the moment I plugged it in I was blown Away! It sounds sooooo good! Deep and rich. The Electar Humbucker is thoroughly beautiful. This is definitely a do all bass. It's not too big to make it uncomfortable. It has a 3 position selector switch that allows you to dial up different ratings @ 50/250/500. All the videos for other basses in this category were often played with a little overdrive which I was only interested in the clearest of tone and output. This bass has it all. You want whopping clear authority or driven into frenzy it's here! Best bass I've ever owned.

Jack Casady 20th Anniversary

By Sweetwater Customer from Wisconsin on February 6, 2018 Music Background: Professional

I've been using this bass since it first came out in 1998. I have 6 including the anniversary. I have used this bass to record and perform with and reeive many compliments on it's sound and appearance. I still use my Fender P bas J bass and Pawnshop bass VI but this anniversary edition is spectacular to say the lest. It's definitely my go to bass. Came out of the box ready to play with no issues. I am a professional with almost fifty years of experience.Many thanks to Jack Casady for all the excellent work in making a great bass for a very affordable price.

owned one since 2006

By Doc from just south of Cincinnati on November 28, 2017 Music Background: pro, several years ago.

This bass is a friggin tone machine. I have owned Fender basses. (I still use the fretless j. bass occasionally). Because of the tone of this Epi Jack it bass become my go to bass and is strung now with La Bella flexible flats, just my preference of bass strings over the round wounds it comes with. Definitely buy the case for it.

Epi Jack Casady Bass

By Bob Garcia on August 29, 2017 Music Background: gigging musician

What's to say? Great tone, great bass. I love the wide fingerboard and neck; it fits my hand like a glove. Great instrument. I play rock, blues, r&b and soul, and this bass delivers the sound and vibe I want. It really cuts through the mix. The fit and finish of this bass is simply fabulous, and the sound is awesome, and I'm not playing it through anything special. The bass comes with roundwounds, which aren't my cup of tea. I put on a set of Ernie Ball flats and adjusted the action to suit my playing style. Love it, and the bands I'm playing with love it!

Love this bass

This is the first bass I have every bought and oh my! I love it! The neck is chubby but feels awesome and nothing feels wrong with the neck

Epiphone Jack Casady

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician

Well made - top of Epiphone's quality line IMO. Good range of tones and comfortable to play sitting or standing. The stock Dean Markley Blue Steel strings work well to bring out growly mids and bite; fitting flats (I use Labella Deep Talkin') gives more fundamental tones and thump. Then again, a change of string type can do more to adjust your tone than thousands spent on amps.

A very good value bass; the only possible downside is the body size for some: it is essentially the same size as a Gibson ES 335 which smaller players can find awkward. Watch the bridge studs too; I've heard they can work loose but gluing them in place readily solves the problem it seems. Tuners and other hardware work flawlessly and the factory set up was fine - only usual minor tweaks needed.

Jack Casady Signature Bass great in the studio

By Jack from CA USA on May 10, 2011 Music Background: Pro

I have one of the first JCB's made. It's a modern take on the Gibson Les Paul Sig Bass. The great Gibson design makes this new Epi version the best electric hollowbody bass available. A unique and great sounding bass that sounds incredible with the LaBella flatwounds 760fl set. Set the varitone switch on the lowest setting 50ohms, then roll the tone knob back about halfway for a sweet organic ballad tone. Advance the varitone for more aggressive, meatier tones. A killer studio bass.

Jack Casady bass is one of the best basses available

By bassin from Western USA on December 8, 2010 Music Background: Pro Musician

This is one of the best buys in the bass world. Priced for the masses, but sounds as good or better than any pro bass available. Has its own round, organic sound, but can do rock, too. I use 760FL La Bella flatwounds on mine and it just kills! A recording monster, too.

Casady Impedance Switch Purpose

By Doctor Fine from Neverland on November 23, 2015 Music Background: Played concerts in the 60s

Lots of Misinformation everywhere about this switch and what it does. The impedance switch on the Casady is NOT a VariTone circuit.

A real VariTone has selective frequency cuts and shifts your tone tremendously. The Casady impedance switch has NO change to your tone while it allows you to pick three radically different volume levels for the same tone with no loss of highs or detail or tone.

Compare that with regular volume controls which typically kill your tone when you turn down. This switch does NOT kill tone. You can set the low volume (50) to match your stage amp for a clean tone and then use the two louder settings for more punch for solos.

Or you can set the loudest setting as your "normal sound" and dial it back WITH NO LOSS OF TONE by using the lower switch positions. Your choice.

This bass, in other words, has a tremendous dynamic range!

Set it up with favorite strings and get your best bass sound---then use that tone at ALL different volume levels. Louder for solos and less for background backup.

The bass by itself has a distinctive classy tone and this switch allows you to do the most possible with dynamic attack!!! Just like Jack.

And the fact that all this control is at your fingertips means you can get sounds normally only possible in the studio---but LIVE through your amp on stage!

Great bass at a great price

By Chris from Huntsville, AL on January 5, 2012 Music Background: Vox & Bass (Hobbyist)

First thing I had to do was to tighten everything! After that, it was good to go, although I did change the action, strings and intonation. I thought it sounded better with heavy strings (.105 - .050). Has a great woody tone (I didn't really know what that meant before this bass!) Thumpy but not muddy. Perfect for the music I like: '60's, '70's and Country.

Fantastic Bass

By Darrell R Taylor from Birmingham, AL USA on May 15, 2010 Music Background: Lifelong Bass Guitarist

I love this bass. In a field full of solid bodies that sound very similar comes this unique guitar. The responsiveness to touch and technique is very intimate. Position of the plucking hand really shines through on this one.Playing around with the varitone and tone control yields a number of useful tones: Don't let one pickup make you think it is a one trick pony.
The 34" scale keeps it from being muddy. There are not many full scale hollow body bass guitars around.
Build quality is very good. My only complaint is the large body. This does contribute to the great sound though. It is not heavy, at least.
The gold color is beautiful. You get noticed.
If you want to get out of the pack ( both sound and looks) this is your ticket!

Very satisfied

By David Weiss from Philadelphia, PA on November 4, 2014 Music Background: Entusiast

This is a very good bass for the money. I can't believe the sound you get from only one pickup. Somehow the impedance selector switch performs magic and can transform it from an acoustic to a jazz bass to an outright rocker. I do have a couple of issues with it which is why I did not give it five stars. First, since the body is semi-hollow it does suffer from a slight deck dive when standing. Second, the impedance switch is a little flimsy and you need a light touch so you don't turn it past the pre-defined settings. Finally, it arrived with the action set way to high for me. I needed to release some tension on the truss rod and lower the bridge setting. Oh yeah, the pickup was a little loose which caused some buzzing, but tightening the screws took care of that. Once I got it setup, I'm now very satisfied. The customer support along with fast shipping from Sweetwater made the purchase a breeze.
