I was looking for something a little more aggressive and rock sounding, and this fit the bill perfectly. I put some Cobalt flats on it right away, couldn't be happier with the tone. I really only use the blend control slightly neckward of the center notch, but it's nice to have. Bridge pickup is significantly quieter than the neck, you may want a boost or EQ handy if you intend to go back and forth. It needed a truss rod tweak; but I bought it in winter, so that's no surprise. Nice and light for a bass; and it's slightly shorter than my Riviera, very handy.

I've played Bass for over 50 years. Mostly played Gibson had a Hohner Widowmaker back in the day (wish I'd never sold it). Beautiful and wonderful basses all. This Embassy has stolen my heart! It plays so smooth and has such great tone. I play Blues, Jazz and R&R, it sounds great whatever the venue. I'd recommend this bass to everyone.

This is my third bass and surprisingly my first full-scale 34". I've got a 30" shorty and a 32" medium, and here's what is so amazing about this bass — it's every bit as comfortable as either of those! The way this thing is laid out (the bridge being so far back, I guess?) makes it play like a shorter-scaled instrument. And, without getting out the bathroom scale, I'd say that I think this is lighter than either of those instruments! It's very light, easy and comfortable to play, with great balance and zero neck dive. I use a regular guitar strap with this and yet have no trouble whatsoever standing and playing four, back-to-back, one-hour sets.

Things to know: The bridge is adjustable, but there is no way to dial in individual saddle heights. I've been able to find a happy medium, but it did take a little fiddling around to get it just right. Also, the tuners are OK but not awesome. They will be the first thing I upgrade if/when I decide to do so.

The pickups are great! Big sound. Noticeably hotter (i.e., louder) than on either of my other basses. I like the bridge, actually – love the look and think it functions well enough. The neck is wide, roughly P-bass width, I think (you can double-check that), but it feels easy to navigate – and remember, this is coming from a guy who has only ever played shorter-scaled and narrower-necked instruments. My bandmates like it, which is a definite plus. And, it's super-affordable. Oh, and the fit and finish are pro-level. You'll want to keep the fretboard oiled, especially in winter, and I've done some minor filing to make the fret ends perfect, but there wasn't any true fret-sprout that had to be fixed; it's more of a personal perfectionism.

I highly recommend this bass if you play rock and/or play with a pick. It's a perfect fit with those styles (but does well fingerstyle and on less intense songs, too). If you want something different and like the looks of this (or if you like but can't afford a Serek, lol), grab this Epiphone! You'll be happy with it.

I play Fender and Rickenbacker Basses through an Eden Head and two 4 X 12 Eden Cabs So I'm not a newby or afraid to spend money on quality instruments. With that said, I've always loved the looks and sound of a Gibson Thunderbird but just couldn't make the ergonomics of that Bass work for me. So, I read about, but held back on pulling the trigger on Epiphone's revision of its 60's Embassy Bass until this month. Now that I own one, Epiphone's revision of the 1963 is brilliant, looks-wise, sound-wise, and ergonomically it's an upper story home run. Mine will now be my number two Bass and that's saying a lot.

Not to say its perfect out of the Box as you will have to set it up and the stock Marvel tuners are rubbish. I've already replaced those with Gotoh's brilliant L2+R2 GB707's (Direct fit with modded screw holes) and this Bass now ranks up there with any Bass I own, regardless of price.

I love the fit, finish, and detail on this Bass, praise be to CNC machines and modern Factory Quality Control. Even the MOP Epiphone Logo is legit and they recreated the original's barrel knobs.

Additionally, if you don't have a light-weight long scale bass (mine weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces as measured by Sweetwater) you owe it to your back to buy one of these killer Basses. This Bass growls like a T-bird with zero ergonomic problems. It's wonderful to play on a strap (install strap locks and don't drop it) and the sounds from both pickups are great, usable and cut through a mix, while the blend/mixing knob between the two is simply brilliant achieving a very wide range of usable sounds.

Note to Epiphone: I would have paid more for mine if it came stock with the Gotoh GB707's and that's why it only gets 4.5 stars.

THe only dilemma is which of the four current colors to pick and I can't help you with that. Mine is wnaderlust green and looks way better in person than it does on-line. Great presentation kudos to Sweetwater, your the best on-line Music retailer.

Plays like a dream, set up great right out of the box.

I saw this bass about a year ago at a GC, and immediately took notice of the color and how unique it was, e.g. not based on a Gibson or other famous bass. Well I played it and thought it was really neat, but I don't buy instruments on impulse. Well, a year passed and I couldn't stop thinking about it so I bought one!

The instrument is incredibly light, and the neck feels good after playing for a couple weeks. The neck isn't super fast but I don't feel like I'm wrestling with it.

I'm most impressed by the variety of tones I can get just by using the pickup blend knob. The neck pickup gives it a really deep sound while the bridge pickup really opens up for a cool vocal-sounding midrange tone. I like to favor the bridge pup just a little bit. The tone knob is also super useful, I don't feel like it sounds bad or muddy if I roll it off at all.

My only critiques are: 1) that the body is almost too light. It's not neck dive per se but it's a little unbalanced, and 2) I wish I could adjust the string spacing but I know that's an idiosyncracy with the Gibson bridge, so I might replace it with a hipshot. Highly recommend this bass in whatever gorgeous finish you choose. I'm partial to the green!

I purchased this bass for a friend as a birthday present.

To say he was pleased is an understatement. He has shared with me on multiple occasions how happy he is with the instrument. He comments on the weight, feel, and sound. All glowing comments.

Based on my friends enjoyment of the bass and the smile on his face when he received this one is a winner!

I was just blessed to receive one of these basses as a birthday gift from a friend. Apparently, going over the hill has some benefits. I love this bass!
The color is much nicer in person, with a strong metal flake gloss finish. All of the finish details are great; I couldn't find any flaws beyond a very small ripple in the finish of the side of the neck (trivial). The frets are very nicely finished, and the action is just right for my taste. Nice amount of sustain from all that mahogany.
The reason I take away half a star is that the cable jack is inconsistent. When I first plugged it in, there was no output. After a minute or so of monkeying with the plug, it worked fine. I removed the pick guard to check the wiring to find that everything was fine. After going through this for a while, I noticed the problem was improving. I suspect there was some paint or similar material inside the jack that is wearing away and providing a cleaner connection. I am going to watch it for a while before I decide what to do about it.
All in all, it's a really nice mid-level bass. I feel very lucky to have it. It looks great whether I'm playing it or it's in the stand or on the wall.
