Evans Dixson EBDL Bass Drum Lift Reviews

Poly-filled Nylon Bass Drum Lifter for 16"-24" Bass Drums

Whether it's a club-sized kick that needs lifting or a rock-sized kick that needs sweetening, the Arti Dixson-designed Evans Dixson Bass Drum Lift from Sweetwater promises instant results. This bass drum riser is made from a finish-safe poly-filled nylon, which won't break under normal use, that attaches just behind the batter-size hoop of your drum. This frees the batter head to resonate to its full potential, simultaneously allowing the use of your favorite kick drum pedals and beaters with bass drums as small as 16". It's also great for double pedals, giving you the ability to position both beaters equidistant to the head's center for a more even tone.

Bass drum lift

By Sweetwater Customer from WA on June 11, 2022

Perfect height adjustment for my 20" bass drum. Tried the Gibraltar lift first and the lowest adjustment was too high (may have worked with an 18" or smaller drum). This is a much simpler option and just as stable and secure without clamping to the hoop.

what a difference evans makes! perfect for the job.

Bass Drum Lift

By PB on October 14, 2021 Music Background: Drummer

Works well and lifts bass drum up high enough so I do not have to adjust beater height. Bass drum does stay in place. Expensive for what it is, hope it holds up.

Awesome!

A great piece of equipment that every drummer should have!

Wow! That was easy.

By Tony on December 1, 2020

I love this item. I just clamped my pedal to it, pushed it under the bass drum past the hoop. To fine adjust it, just lift the bass drum a little and push pedal in or pull out a little. I bring the pedal in far enough so that the tip of the pedal does not come in contact with the hoop when pressing down on it. Works fantastic!
Another nice thing is when breaking down the kit, you don't have to bend down and loosen the clamp on the floor off of the hoop. Just lift the bass drum and pull out the pedal by its beater.

Protects hoops and improves sound

By Tim Suliman from Detroit, MI on September 5, 2020 Music Background: Old guy drummer and recording enthusiast

I've been using the Dixson lift for years. It puts the beater at a better angle to the head and improves the sound. It puts the beater into a better striking position for smaller bass drums. It protects wooden hoops so you don't have to put a piece of sticky rubber on the hoop. The velcro keeps the drum from moving. Highly recommended.

Evans bass-lift

By Kevin McMichael from Norristown on July 28, 2020 Music Background: Drum-head for life!!

I LOVE this product!!! I purchased a new drum kit and wanted to know how I could keep from clamping the "BEAR-TRAP" like claws, that are on every set of kick pedals, to my "shiny new retaining ring. After all, it is made of "WOOD" !! So I went to my "go-to" place for all things music... SWEETWATER... They did not disappoint. I found two very intelligently designed products. First was a bass lift that you have to actually "disassemble" your new bass drum, Then you have to attach said item to your bass drum by using the "small " bolts that hold your tuning lugs on to the drum and keep your drum in tune. All that pounding pressure from every foot movement, no matter how hard or soft, is going right to those little bolts and the shell that they are attached to!!!! Then I found the "bass-lift" I am going to talk about, which I believe is much more "DRUM-FRIENDLY"!! The lift is made of strong plastic, (some think it's too expensive for plastic) but if I could form plastic into that shape, I would!! I don't own 3D printer!!! It just sits under your bass drum and the protruding edge of plastic that faces the "drummer " is where you attach your bass-pedal/s. Your shell's paint/ wrap is protected by a nice soft "pad" that's already on the top of the "lift ". It raises your kick drum about 1.5 - 2 inches. So you can extend your front "feet" to level-out the height. You can really tell the difference, between your drum with all the weight of the bass drum, and most likely, two mounted toms, and all the hardware including the pedals, sitting on the very "delicate " WOODEN " hoop that is not cheap to replace!!! Then listen to the bass drum that is, in my words, " Floating On Air "!! The only points touching the floor are the front "spurs" and the little surface area touching the bass drum !! Sounds Fabulous, total difference... The only problem you might come across is "moving" !!! The lift has a bit of Velcro on the bottom, so you are better off using some kind of rug or mat that it can "hold" onto. And make sure your "spur-spikes are extended enough. It's up to you!!! I can't say enough about this product, but you make the decision... "STAY SAFE, STAY HOME , AND ••!!!!!

Amazing!

I have a 18" base drum and the difference in feel and sond is amazing! Great product.

Terrific Tool

By Sweetwater Customer on January 21, 2019 Music Background: Drumming for more than 60 years.

What a simple, brilliant device this is. It preserves the hoops on my gorgeous tiger wood bass drum and, at the same time gives me more tone, clarity, and resonance. A great invention.

Does the job it was designed to do !!

By WENDELL REDER from Lakeland, FL on November 13, 2018 Music Background: Drummer since 1967

Unlike my Sonor Safari w/16" kick that comes with factory installed chrome metal 4" riser, my new Yamaha BeBop kit w/ 18" kick had no riser, I suppose they want direct pedal to nice wood hoop mount, but this put the beater more than 4" higher than center point. I purchased an Evans Dixson Bass Drum Lift, skeptical at first but works perfectly, puts the beater almost spot on. In addition to my Yamaha 18" I am also using this on my Pearl fiberglass/wood kit with 20" kick.

Hate your slave pedal making a different sound. I have the answer for that.

By Ariel Alicea from Massachusetts on February 10, 2019 Music Background: Basement drummer, SJC drums Enthusiast, Please endorse me Zildjian

if there's one thing that us double bass pedal users unanimously hate with a burning passion, it's when our kick drum strokes on double bass don't sound the same. Because of the way hoops are structured, your slave pedal is always gonna be off center from your main pedal, creating a different sound. Because of this lift's flat design, however, now you can position your main pedal slightly off center to compensate for your slave pedal being off center. This allows both pedals to create the same sound when they hit the kick. Products like these are why I like Evans, and not just for their drumheads. I always like innovation in my drums and instruments in general, and that's what I get with guys like Evans, SJC, and Zildjian.

Dere vuss much singing dancink feasting und rejoicing een our leetle villuch. . . Ya!

By BigMeow from Indiana on July 18, 2020 Music Background: Lowly drummer guy

I was skeptical about this little piece of plastic, but it does what it says it's gonna do very well.
Turn-Ons:
•It works much better than the Gibraltar Bass Drum lift, which is hard to keep tight on the bass drum hoop, tends to rattle, and the rubber piece goes bye bye rather quickly.
•Just keep the pedal permanently attached to this piece. At Open Mic nights etc. where players bring their own pedals, you can slip this and your pedal under the house kit ( And remove it) in seconds without crouching down and tightening your thumbscrews.
•It doesn't touch your hoop, so it leaves no pedal rash on it.
• I play an 18" kick, and this gets the beaters centered on the head rather quickly.
Turn-Offs:
•Where the kick clamp attaches is not as thick as a wood hoop, so you might have to use a piece of corrugated cardboard on there as a shim to get you pedal clamped on really tight.
•The velcro on the bottom picks up whatever Yuck is on the floor underneath.
•It will take a little getting used to as to how far forward / back to set this from your head to get optimum pedal swing.

Well, that was easy....

By Russ Willoughby from Indiana on January 1, 2020

I have to admit, I thought there was more to this thing than there actually is. I watched the video a few times, but I thought I was missing something. I kept thinking, "Can it really be as easy as attaching the kick pedal, sliding it under the drum and adjusting the spurs?"

The answer is yes. I literally was up and running within two minutes of taking it out of the box. Works perfect.

That said, my four star rating (instead of five) is because I think for what it is it's pretty expensive. It's a small chunk of plastic, so it costs nearly next to nothing to make... Still, buying it was my choice, and it does what it's supposed to do, so I'm happy.

And of course Sweetwater's service was, once again, flawless.

Evans Dixon drum lift

By Tom Vandegrift on April 23, 2019 Music Background: professional working drummer for 45-plus years

this lift did not work for my set up I have an offset double bass pedal and it raised my bass drum the bass drum too high bass drum legs would not extend long enough and made the pedal beaters hit the bottom of snare stand product mounted well and sounded great just didn't work for my application.

Mixed feelings

By Larry Callihan from Kentucky on April 13, 2019 Music Background: Played drums in a semi-professional way 40 + years

I have a 20 inch bass drum that I use this for. It is excellent for raising the bass drum up so I can get a better throw from my bass drum pedal. It does make the bass drum sound full and deep. The mixed feelings are because although the bass drum doesn't slide forward, it will let the bass drum twist to the left and/or right. Not a big deal, and if you have it perfectly centered this may not be an issue. I am not a young man, so getting down on the floor to see if it centered is not a good option for me, so I have to go more by feel. Other that that is does improve bass drum sound quite a bit. It also makes the throw of the bass drum feel much better.

Not For Wider Hoops

By Sweetwater Customer on June 26, 2020

Not for hoops wider than 1.5" (DW).

Drum will move unless blocked or spurs are down.

IMO, not worth $...

Too high of a lift.

By Phil Doyle from Phx on July 23, 2020 Music Background: Played out 40 years ago. I’m back!

I purchased from you DW 5000 and sent Lift back. Lift was too high for my vintage Rogers bass drum.

Thanks.

Old one Great...New one Not so good

By Craig Pataky from OH on June 21, 2022 Music Background: drumming since 1969

I've owned two of these for quite some time, (one on rehearsal kit and the other packed with pedal for gigs), and have been very happy. Went to buy a new one and the design change on the bottom is not how the picture looks. The picture shows the plastic cap with velcro on the bottom of old design that worked quite well. That cap has been eliminated in favor of an exposed foam pad with velcro that is sure to pull out and not travel well.VI an very disappointed with new one.

Doesn't work with Tama Speed Cobra or Iron Cobra

By Ron from Parker, CO on September 19, 2023

The lift itself is a great idea, and I really wish it had worked for me. Because it can't be adjusted, and because of the design of Tama pedals (see photos) the hoop rests on the hoop clamp when in a proper playing position. This was true for both my 18 and my 20 bass drums, as well as both my Speed Cobra and Iron Cobra pedals. I hope the lift is updated to allow some adjustability, or at least to make it work with Tama pedals.

Save your money.

By dean vincent from Cartersville, GA on August 10, 2023

Useless waste of money. It doesn't attach securely under the drum. It's difficult to position the pedal at a comfortable distance from the head. The improvement in sound is not noticeable. I like drum gadgets that work. This isn't one of them. I gave it one star because I couldn't submit the review without it.

Pushes Kick Drum Too Far Back

By Sweetwater Customer on July 7, 2020

It's great for isolating the bass drum and preventing the pedal from clamping onto the hoop. However, the length of the lift is about an inch or 2 past the hoop. So your beater ends up swinging nearly 130 degrees to come in contact with the head as opposed to 90 or 100 degrees. If I'm doing something wrong please let me know.

Would have been great if there was a way to adjust how deep the lift goes.
