Ernie Ball 2839 Baritone Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .013-.072 6-string Reviews

.013-.072 Custom Gauge Baritone Guitar Strings, Nickel Wound, Slinky

Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. When you open a pack of his strings today, you know you're getting a quality set of strings designed to give you great tone, reliable performance, and long life. You can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Heaviest commonly found baritone strings

By J from Jersey City, NJ on August 11, 2023

If you're downtuning to A standard on a 28" scale length baritone guitar, look no further than these strings. Lighter gauge strings feel floppy when tuned that low, whereas this set feels great. Just the right amount of tension, but still easy to bend and play. Big, chunky, fat sound on the low end with P90s. It almost makes my baritone feel like a bass; I love it, you may or may not.

But keep in mind - you may need to file your nut if you're coming from smaller gauge strings. I'm planning to take my Eastwood Sidejack Baritone to the luthier to get this done soon because I really absolutely love these strings.

Fantastic Baritone Strings

By Joe K on June 28, 2023

My new favorite baritone strings. They take tuning down to F# on 27" scale no problem, and have great tension even when taken into low tuning territory. They sound great - my only real gripe is that bulk pack discounts aren't available recently, always greyed out as unavailable.

Excellent, and I'm picky

By Derek from TX on January 13, 2023

These sound and feel the best out of all the brands I've tried, and there aren't that many that fit the 30 inch scale of my Gretsch 5260.

Fun for B standard and lower

By Michael Herrick from Oregon on January 31, 2021 Music Background: Deathmetal

To the guy who gave a 1 star review on the base of personal preference, what you doin man???
I use them on my Ibanez RGBI6 tyippcily B standard or A standard. Controlling the lower strings so there's auctuly dissonance can be a learning curve, but after that you can slam on these and have fun

Excellent electric high gauge strings

I tune my regular acoustic/electric to CFCFCF, and these strings have the best response and brightness for their size. Other strings this gauge in my setup sound much darker.

RUMBLE!

By SUPER2SHEDS from rural ohio on September 29, 2012 Music Background: superjerk

great set of strings.tuned to A these babies are tight and hold their tune with very minimal stretching right out of the package.I put these on a baritone tele and they RRRROOOCK! the .072 ain't too big for ya,try 'em.they also have a wound g {cool} on my 27" scale guitar the tension feels close to a set of .010's at normal pitch to me.they do feel fat but the payoff is big.

Bass IV

By Mark on March 3, 2022

They don't work, don't buy these for a Bass IV, the 13 is too short.

Not for PRS SE 277

By Josh Hudgens from North Canton, OH on October 10, 2018 Music Background: I write my own music

As always, Sweetwater's service is great. My issue is with Ernie ball on these strings. I don't like to go lower than D standard. I managed that on the 277 with Ernie's 11s, but they were too light for my liking on a 27.7". I believe the strings that came with the guitar were 14s with a 68 on the low end. Those were for B standard or drop A tuning. These strings can achieve drop A, but the tension is way too tight for my liking. I should also state that the 277 won't fit the 72, unless you cut the string to desired length and unwrap the coil wire till the core will fit. I don't recommend this, but I had no choice with this set. Ernie Ball should reconsider a similar to the 11s, but with a low end lighter than 68. Maybe 12s would be a more suitable set. These just aren't my cup of tea.
