Bright flats
Sound like rounds on my Fender Jazz bass, work really well for slap, tension is nice, great strings .
Nice Flats
I put these on my Fender Precision 5 string and they sound great. The bass has the option of going through-body and that is how I have it strung.
This instrument is seeing action in fast blues/jazz walking bass context and also being Steve Harris playing Iron Maiden covers. These strings are doing great with both.
I had trouble in the past with brand new flats sounding totally dead on the P bass, but these Cobalts are different; lively tone while still retaining the qualities of flats.
Love these strings!! Cobalt is KIng!!
I recently converted a 5 string bass to fretless. With these strings the tone is incredible, crisp and clear on every note. Great definition and sustain. Huge increase in volume. Easy on the fingers. Once in tune, they stay in tune. Highly recommend these strings.
Rich, Smooth Butter
The EB Flatwounds for Bass are so smooth. I'm a casual bass player and have these strings on both my four and five string electric Fenders. With other strings I got that "string whang?". You know that finger transition or slide time where the string whines or rings? No more! Less fret buzz, smoother left hand fingering transitions and longer playing time are my highlights for these strings.
Good low end clarity providing a thick, buttery tone without the indistinct, fuzzy overreach but still has punch on all strings (even the B!) when needed. They make me more confident exploring the whole fret board and utilizing the capabilities of all the strings on the bass.
The pro sound
I told my sales rep, Zach, that I was needing a string that could provide warmth, punch, as well as a very fat sound with great flexibility. Zach suggested Ernie Ball Slinky Flat Wound. Man was he ever right!! I now have them on my Schecter Diamond Series 5, Fender Jazz 5, and Peavey Millennium Fretless 5. Studio engineers as well as live sound production love the mix!!
Great Strings
After putting flatwounds on a newly converted fretless bass, I found I loved the feel and wanted that on my fretted bass. But, I didn't want to lose the best parts of a roundwound sound. These strings are perfect for my needs. I can get the sound I want by adjusting my bass controls, the feel is wonderfully smooth, and never have I had such balance across the strings from low B to G. As always, Sweetwater service and delivery was the best.
These strings are fantastic!
I do a lot of sliding on the strings (I play a fretted bass), and I thought I'd give flatwounds a try and I couldn't be happier. These strings are amazing, they sound great and feel absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend them if flatwounds are something you are interested in. I'm not looking back.
I'm Impressed
Wanted to wait a couple of weeks before I gave a review and just as the title says I'm impressed.Ill try to keep it simple. Strings installed just fine (no breaks). After setting the bow, string height and intonation I found that the strings do not buzz with lower action. They have GREAT open tone including the B string which I found amazing. The strings from B to G have a good balanced output and tone. Chords sound clean not muddy and have fantastic sustain. The band members I play with found they like how the bass blends with there tone. They here me just fine without blowing them out. EQ wise I have a little boost in the midrange around 2k.Presence now cut back to quarter boost. The stings have about a 2hr break in period to achieve fast and smooth feel. I think round wound players should give these a try due to the clean sounding chords and B string tone.
Good 4 four hours.
These may have been a Friday production set. For 4-6 hours they played nice from B to G. After that they went a lil dry sounding and reeked of oxidizing metal. I'm only plying indoors so I'm sure it was not external conditions.
disappointed
Disappointed. Had high hopes but did not work for my setup. They smell really strong of metal after 8 hrs of playing.
