Ernie Ball 2591 Regular Slinky Flatwound Electric Guitar Strings - .010-.046 Reviews
Ernie Ball’s Slinky Flatwound electric guitar string series combines the warmth and mellow richness of the flatwound tradition with the effortless playability of Ernie Ball’s legendary Slinky series. These cutting-edge strings are precision wound using a cobalt alloy ribbon wire, resulting in a slightly more defined sound and less finger noise than your typical flatwound. Moreover, Ernie Ball Power Slinky Flatwound strings forgo the flatwound-standard wound G string for a plain G — a spec swap that Sweetwater guitarists find makes Ernie Ball Power Slinky Flatwound strings an ideal choice for both guitarists dipping their toes into the flatwound scene and longtime flatwound aficionados seeking a string set with superior bendability.
Great strings.
I tried flatwound strings from other makers and they sounded dull and dead. I normally use regular slinky 10's on my Strat and Tele guitars but I wanted flats on my archtop and these just plain work. I used Ernie Ball strings for years and the are the only electric strings I use.
Excellent!
I have long been a fan of flat wound guitar strings, and I would recommend these Ernie Balls to anyone who is considering trying flat wounds for the first time, or as an alternative to someone who already enjoys them. Their tension, sound and output are closer to round wounds than the Thomastik-Infelds and D'addario Chromes that I have played in the past. T-Is are generally considered the gold standard of flats as they have a very sweet tone and a soft feel for their gauge, but they are lower in output. Chromes are darker and stiffer, but produce a strong fundamental, hold a tune exceptionally well, and may be the most durable string you can buy. I consider these EBs to be an excellent value in the flat wound category, and perhaps the best choice if you play pop more than jazz.
