Ernie Ball 2568 Aluminum Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings - .011-.052 Light Reviews

.011-.052 Light Gauge Acoustic Guitar Strings, Aluminum Bronze

Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. When you open a pack of his strings today, you know you're getting a quality set of strings designed to give you great tone, reliable performance, and long life. Ask any Sweetwater guitar expert - you can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Strings that confuse me

By Sean from Broomfield, CO
Music Background: Guitarist

How often do you find a product that lives up to it's name? Right on the package the claim is "Superior Projection and Clarity". That claim is not hyperbole. They are easily some of the loudest strings I've ever heard, and certainly they are clear, way more than phosphor bronze. There is a bold bass and treble response, even with custom lights.

However, they are brash and metallic, "listen to me" strings. If you have a wonderful sounding guitar, these might actually take away from that. "Pronounced bass" doesn't mean "warm", and treble doesn't mean "sparkle". It is hard to explain, but these strings have like this fundamental push across the acoustic guitar frequency range, while at the same time having very little musicality. Maybe it is just the guitars I've tried them on? I readily admit that I like a mellower sound- these are not that! Everything with these seem to clash together and there is no interplay between the notes. On some guitars they probably would sound great (like a dark, laminate guitar). But my recommendation? Stay away if you have a great sounding, solid wood guitar that you don't want overpowered with the strings it wears.

Having a Ball again!

By Michael M. from Tucson, AZ
Music Background: Recreational guitar player since 1967.

You can't go wrong with Ernie Ball strings. I have been using them since 1967. The quality is incredible and so is the tone.

I’ll be stocking up just in case?

By Geoff from Maryland

Simply put, these are the best sounding strings I've ever heard. I put them on a Dean Exhibition and then immediately proceeded to order some 12's for my Fender. I actually ordered multiple packs of the lights and Med lights. I may even try them on my parlor guitar next? Seriously, give them a try.

Okay - just not my style.

By zBob from SoCal
Music Background: Solo Artist

Normally I use Elixir 12-52 Phosphor Bronze on my '76 Gibson L-4A jumbo. Saw these reviewed online and bought a couple sets of 11-52 because I didn't want to go to a bigger 6th string. I found the strings in general to have far less brilliance or projection than expected - could be due to smaller gauge than used to. Also, Elixirs are coated and play smoother, these EBs are uncoated. Gotta say the promo price is right, but these are going to be backup strings.

Great Strings

By Chuck M. from SD
Music Background: Intermediate Player

I purchased these Strings for my Ibenez
I purchased these strings for my Ibenez 295L Acoustic, they seem too have good tone, not as bright as I thought they would be, could be the Guitar too, they do sound really good and stay in tune, may go with the Ultra Light Strings next time, changing strings is the cheapest thing you can do. Thank to my Sales Rep. Jordan Clohessy, awesome service as always.

Great, Long-Lasting Strings!

By Bob M. from Michigan
Music Background: Part Time Pro Musician

My go-to guitar is an older Takamine EF341C. Having tried numerous strings on this guitar, I have to say that the Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze 2568 011-052 are the best strings ever for this guitar. When I play, the shows last 3 hours. That's three hours of hard strumming and sweat. Most other strings have to be replaced after every show. These strings have gone THREE shows; something I would never have tried with confidence before. The tonal range is fantastic, balanced and long lasting. The strings feel good and have great reaction over longer periods of time. It's my hope Ernie Ball continues to make these strings for a long time. And I will continue to get them from Sweetwater because they're the best!

Excellent strings

By Sweetwater Customer from .

These strings have great clarity and tone. I put the .011 to .052 lights (2568) on my Larrive OM. I have been searching for light set of strings that would give a nice bright tone and more volume. Without increasing the string gauge. These do it well. At first I thought the tone to be a little to bright. They felt a bit rougher than the strings I was use to playing. Producing some unwanted noise. I didn't have anymore trouble keeping them in tune than any other new set of strings. This is what I found. These strings must be broken in. Part of it was just getting use to the strings. However after playing them a few days they started to sound better. The tone got a little warmer. The strings loosened up and felt much smoother. You might say this about any set of new strings but even more so with these stirngs. After playing them 2 to 4 hours a day for approximately a week. I really dig them. I am hoping they will last at least a month to justify the expense. If so I believe I found the right strings for me. Hope this review is helpful.

All-around Winner

By Adam H. from Cape Girardeau, MO
Music Background: Gigging Musician

I look for three things in a string: tone, durability, and affordability. This string is the best example I've found of all three of those things coming in the same package. They are loud, round, and not overly bright after initial play-in, and maintain a good fundamental longer than the phosphor-bronze I'd been using. They seem to withstand humidity well (though I wasn't using them in the swampiest of months). And they feel good after a little play. I use them on both my Martin and J-45, and they transformed the Gibson. Get 'em.

The Best Strings for Acoustic

By Mark C.

These strings are the best for my acoustic guitars. I use the 11's on my 1910 Washburn parlor guitar and I use the 13's on my 1975 Martin D35. The sound is clear bright and robust. These strings wake my guitars up and make them sound bigger then they are.

I disagree with other reviewers that say these strings don't stay in tune because they do. Prehaps try stretching out your strings before playing or go to a heavier gauge.

I buy these strings from sweet water all the time and each pack I get sounds great. I won't use any other set of strings for my acoustics.

Staying in Tune

By Joe D. from Harvard, MA
Music Background: Non professional folk and Americana

Well, I tried the Ernie Ball AL strings on the 1973 Martin D-35. I restrung the guitar and immediately tried them - not bad. But, since I like to let new strings sit for a few days, I let them sit without playing them, and took the D-35 to my nursing home gig. I did 14 songs. Their tone was different - little metallic sounding, I don't know how to describe it. But, they sounded flatter three days after restringing. But, the main culprit was that they did not stay in tune well. I kept having to tweak them. So, for the D-35, it's back to Martin SP or SP Life 80/20's. I like the tone better and they basically stay in tune after a few days. So I am with John's previous review and marked them down on not staying in tune.

My only acoustic string set

By Keith from Central Kentucky
Music Background: Diligent student of the instrument

Having been a metal worker for a period of time, the alloy of aluminum and bronze caught my attention. Aluminum will produce an oxide but not the crud that steel, copper and bronze does. I had been looking for set of strings that I could be totally sold on; had used Martin and GHS strings and liked them but after 4-6 weeks, it would be time for a new set.
I decided to put Ernie Ball to the test and use and abuse these strings just to see if they were as advertised. I installed them on my 25th Anniversary Alavarez, which is a hand built solid rosewood & spruce guitar that was produced in the 90's.
The difference in tone was immediately noticeable and these strings project better than anything that I'd used previously. This is important for me because I play fingerstyle without picks or amplification. These strings were LOUD and very clear and balanced in tone.

These strings were installed on Memorial Day weekend 2015 - I took them off of the guitar on 23 Sept 2016. 16 months. Lots of hours of play on them. I purposely didn't clean them. I purposely kept the guitar out of the case so the strings were exposed to any dust or humidity change in my house.
I took them off only because I had a set of strings from another manufacturer for a beta test. They were still sounding clear, loud as ever and just as balanced as when I installed them.

Just to prove that any result that I might have wasn't a fluke, I installed a 2nd set of these strings on my PRS SE Angelus Custom just a few weeks after I'd put the set on the Alvarez. The 2nd set is probably close to 14 months old at this point and just like my first set, still loud, still clear, no corrosion. I won't be changing the 2nd set anytime soon.

One person told me that he didn't get a month out of his set EB's Aluminum Bronze but then told me that he had been playing whole step bends. He wondered why they pulled apart.... uh, aluminum is a softer metal and stretches more. Acoustic strings aren't intended for that type of bending.....

I'm A Believer

By rokdog49

I must say I had high hopes for these strings. My "go to" strings have been GHS Signature Bronze which are great strings. I thought why not give these a go so I did. At first I was a little disappointed because I was hoping to hear brighter right away and I didn't hear a discernible difference from the Signatures.
After playing my Larrivee L03 for about an hour I became aware of the solid, clear bottom that was promised. I also was hearing overtones like they were going out of style and as others have said the sustain was phenomenal...really. I'm going to continue to see how they hold up as they are touted to last longer than other uncoated strings. I will definitely buy more of these. Incidentally, I bought the 11-52 set.

Clear Tone

By John from Indiana

Let me start by saying these strings do have very bright, clear tone when new. My poor rating is due to them not staying in tune. I've been playing for almost 50 years, so I'm not a beginner. I do like to try new strings from time to time, but always end up back on the Gibson Masterbuilt bronze phosphor. I put a set on each of my 4 acoustics. A Gibson J45 Custom, Gibson Songwriter Dlx Std, Taylor 810ce and Taylor K28e. Same tuning issue with all 4 guitars. Seems to be more prevalent on the wound strings. Another review here claims these are 3 X brighter than the Cleartone & Martin strings. I'd agree with that on the Cleartone's. They are a bit brighter (marginally) when new than the Gibson's, but loose that brightness very quickly. The Gibson Materbuilt bronze phosphor hold their tune perfectly and after an hour of playing suddenly become brighter than these strings with the same play time.

EB Nailed It With These Strings--Big Time!

By Woody C. from Orlando, FLorida USA
Music Background: Songwriter, engineer and musician

If you don't hear at the very least a 3x improvement in your guitar's tone, seriously consider using it for an indoor planter because if these strings can't do anything for its tone, there is nothing on this planet that will.
I strung my Tak TF360SBG up with them and I was totally amazed beyond words. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I have been using Cleartone and Martin strings for long time and they don't begin to measure up to these strings. Believe me when I say my Tak has NEVER sounded this good...and it is soooo recordable. These strings make my guitar sound optimally balanced and the definition/clarity is perfect. Nowadays after adding a Tri-Ax pick up, when I track I simply keep everything flat and every take sounds perfect in any mix. And by the way, they sound better longer than phosphor bronze strings.
I can't recommend these strings enough. So do yourself a favor and buy a set of them, I promise you will not be disappointed. Yes, They're that good.

Highly recommend

By Sue from United States
Music Background: I play everyday, guess you could call me a hobbyist?

Excellent strings, the sound is amazing, I highly recommend trying these if you haven't had the chance to enjoy them. They have a sparkle on the high end and a very rich sounding middle and bottom end. They last as long as the coated strings without the coated string price.
