Ernie Ball 2223 Super Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .009-.042 Reviews
Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. When you open a pack of his strings today, you know you're getting a quality set of strings designed to give you great tone, reliable performance, and long life. You can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Great Electric Guitar Strings
I have used the Ernie Ball Super Slinkys on 2 Les Pauls and a Squier Sratocaster, and they sound great. I have not broken a string yet, but then I do not play long periods of time either. I am very please with the tone quality from them and they seem to stay in tune well. I would recommend these strings to anyone looking for a .009 set of stings for an electric guitar.
Alan Carter
My sales associate Alan Carter is in my opinion the best in the business! He's always ready to give me the best service possible and his willingness to make me a satisfied customer shows! His response time is top notch and he is always "Johnny on the spot" getting my orders processed and shipped. I recommend him for accommodations and serious recognition!!
The best electric guitar strings!
These are the best electric guitar strings! There's not much that I can say that hasn't already been said in countless reviews.
Hello McFly
I've been buying over priced strings for over a decade. I've always heard players, "super slinky", but, they're only 5 bucks, they can't be as good as the others ...WRONG... I just put a set on my American Tele, and you know what? That thing came to life! I s&_% you not. Just my experience, we all have different ears but, I've found a new string!
Best strings you can get
Been playing guitar for 13 years and have been using EBSS since the very beginning. Have tried other strings (EB Paradigm, EB Cobalts, EB M-Steels) and I always come running back for the classic Super Slinky's. Always been durable and dependable while being such a lovely string to play. Bends and vibrato just don't sound the same with other strings. If you haven't tried these, go out and get a set.
Ernie Ball Super Slinky Strings - 9's
these are absolutely the best sounding strings on the planet....you know jimmy page can't be wrong!!!
i've tried them against other strings on my Les Paul's, and besides the best sound, i can play for hours,
several days/week with no fingertip pain...mostly classic rock and a few oldies....
still on the first set on 2 different guitars after many hours of playing for over one year...
and they still sound GREAT!!!!
i play at least 10 hours/week on Fender amps.
Great strings.
I haven't bought them from Sweetwater, but I use this type of Ernie Ball strings, and they for sure will be the ones I will keep using. They sound great, they work well with old strings, I have a pack of these from the early 2000's and I had to replace my D string (i don't replace old strings) and it works perfectly with them.
Best Strings to use hands down if you have a Floyd Rose equipped guitar!
Absolutely love the sound and feel of these Super Slinky's! Have them on my Jackson Kelly JS32 w/ a licensed Floyd Rose and love these! I have Beefy Slinky's on my Stratocaster (have it tuned to Drop C#, my Kelly is in Standard E) absolutely my favorite strings from here on out. I used to use D'Addarios on my strat (Didn't buy my Kelly until here recently)
Ernie Ball Strings Are #1
My LTD EC1000 originally came with 10-46 gauge strings, D'Addario, which were just fine but after a while I decided I to switch to 9 gauge strings for easier playing and higher pitch. I play Black Metal which typically is higher pitch than other genres of Metal. Upon installation the new set of 9-42 Ernie Ball strings my guitar instantly felt and sounded better. I swear by Ernie Ball. Do yourself a favor though and just buy the 3 pack, it doesnt hurt to have a couple back up packs.
Great for bends and slides
I play a Telecaster and these are my favorite strings-a lot of fun especially for bends and slides.
Fine long lasting strings
I've been playing EB Super Slinky strings for years and I think they are top notch. Bend easy and always feel and sound just rite! If you haven't played these strings, you owe yourself a couple of sets.
Ernie Ball Always
Always used Ernie Ball strings. Tried others and always came back to Ernie Ball pinks. These are the standards for .009-.042. Nice tone, last long enough, never any issues, and you can find them just about any shop. Not much more to say, but these are the strings I like and play.
Thanks to sweetwater for nice prices, fast shipping and a great sale Rep. Patrick.
Industry Standard
With players like Jimmy Page and Jeff back playing the Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, you know there's something to it.
No Frills, No Gimmicks, Just simple, effective and time tested quality prefered by some of the greatest players in the industry,
An absolute pleasure dealing with my Sales rep Mike Harris & excellent shipping time round out the Sweetwater Experience.
Ernie Ball or nothing at all!
I really love the feel and sound of the Super Slinkys! I couldn't see myself using any other brand of strings. I
really like the Earthwood 80/20 XL's for my acoustic, the are bright but very balanced without sounding tinny. They are also a very comfortable playing string which makes Ernie Balls my go to strings.
Super Slinky strings
These Erie Ball Super Slinky strings have a smooth sweet sound and blend into all kinds of music from 60's all the way to the present.
My go to strings
Been using SS since the 80s. Very forgiving and great sound. Have tried other brands, especially when I get a doorbuster deal, but I always go back to EBSS. Sound great when they are first put on, and last long if you are lazy about changing your strings. Price is right.
Ernie Ball 2223 Super Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Strings
I have used Ernie Ball strings for years of playing. I started out with 10 gauge when I was younger but as I aged I needed to switch to the Super Slinky 9 gauge. At first, I was worried about losing some of my tone or having problems with strings breaking because of the lighter gauge. I haven't suffered any loss of tone or had any problems with strings breaking since making the switch. Also, the Super Slinky strings maintained the same tuning integrity as the heavier Regular Slinky strings. Ernie Ball strings are the only part of my tone that has remained consistent for all of my years of playing. I will continue to use Ernie Ball strings for as long as I am able to play. Fantastic product!
EBs
I been using Nickel wound Ernie Ball strings for 35 years.
Nuff Said.
Been Playing um for years
In my opinion the best strings for the money. I play them on my '52 reissue Tele and have for many years.
Love 'em
I love these strings
Amazing strings
These strings are used by countless artists for a very good reason. They sound, feel, and last extremely well. The price is very tough to beat especially with the quality you receive. These strings feel very smooth and comfortable to play as well as super easy to bend with very little to no drop in volume. Sweetwater was great as always and the strings were shipped fast and were well packaged.
Wow, just wow!
These strings turned my cheap squire strat into a great and easy to play guitar. My old strings which I'm not sure of the brand, made my guitar hard to play when it came down to pressing down on the fret board. And when it comes to bending it became a breeze.
Ernie Ball Super Slinky Strings
I love these strings. I use 9-11's on various guitars from vintage Fenders to newer PRS, Les Paul, and Epi Dot. They sound and feel great.
Super slinky strings
They sound great, they feel good, an overall solid set of strings!
The BEST for Guitar Strings!!!!!!
I have been Playing for about 3 years and I will Never play any other brand. These are the best for just about any style of guitar playing. I play Blues , classic rock and Metal and these are the best for all three. I would recommend these to any guitarist from begginer to pro.
Ernie Ball does it right
I have used Ernie Ball regular slinkys for a long time and recently figured its been a while since I changed things up. After giving the super slinkys a go, I dont think I will be using regulars anytime soon. My honest opinion is out of all the strings I have used Ernie Balls have always been the most dependable, affordable, and best sounding strings on the market.
super slinkys
love me some super slinky !!! best sounding string for my money--have used them for 18 years....and sweetwater has the best case price in the buiz !!! great rock-n-roll sound..
These are the kind of strings that, once you try them, you know you aren't going to find any better.
Great Strings
These are the best strings I have ever played. I have used numerous brands but not too many, and these have blown away everything I have tried. They get on the guitart easy, stay in tune, and sound great. Try these.
Best Sounding Strings for Rock and Roll
Ernie Ball strings have the best sound of all for rock and roll. They also have the best feel on your fingers. After trying all brands I am sold on Ernie Ball as the best. I like this Super Slinky guage for faster play and longer bends. Buy them buy the 3 or 5 pak for the best price!
Stays in tune and last the longest.
Thank you Sweetwater. As always you have the best deals. Love the 2223's. Great punchy tones. My Les Paul's sing with these baby's. They take a beating very well and seem to out last some of the other brands.
WOW THESE STRINGS ARE GREAT
I REALLY like the strings they are very good for bends of course they start to corrode a week or so in but there good
The only strings I use.
In my younger days dean Markley. Now no. Super slinky cheap but good strings. If your like me I'm changing strings all the time. Can't afford 20 bucks a set
Best VFM for beginners
I was just looking for good VFM for basics to go with a bundle gift to a friend.
it does the job, and at such a price it just fits.
Super Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Strings
Great strings I've been using them for years. They have a great sound and hold up under aggressive playing. They have a great feel to them easy on the finger tips. The best part is they sound great, last a long time and are a great price.
Super Slinky for Me!!!
Started using Super Slinky sets in the 70,s. Went around the horn to every string type, gauge and manufacturer. Came back my original choice. I have small hands and I play a lot of Blues and R&B. For me, this gauge is the most comfortable. The only issue is that sometimes this gauge sounds a little thin. It's a trade off between sound and performance. I find Ernie Ball makes a superior product in any gauge. Sweetwater helped me to determine what factors were important to me when purchasing. Sweetwater customer service is the Simply the Best!! No need to go anywhere else for your gear. Sweetwater has the best combination of price, fast free ship AND great tech/customer service. Simply the Best!
slinky
I've used Earnie Ball slinky and super slinky's for 45+ years on electric and acoustic guitars,I have never found better strings. If it ant broke, don't fix it.
Ernie Ball 2223
I have been using these for many years. I have tried lots of other brands but the feel is very different. These are smooth to the touch which is very important if you do a lot of bending. I have wasted a lot of time and money on other brands but the feel and packaging was not to my liking. Reading other reviews of more expensive strings, most players return to these for the most important reason -- They Trust what works!
Always reliable
I normally like heavier gauge strings but I decided to keep my Jeff Beck strat with these 9-42.
Good strings for jamming, but not recording or live.
Ernie Ball is the main brand I use, and I've played with the Super Slinky's extensively. They are great strings. Be aware though, they lack the bottom end and tone that thicker strings (Regular, Power, etc) have. Also, they are very easy to bend unintentionally out of tune during play. Note that this isn't because Ernie Ball made bad strings. It is because the strings are so thin. For recording or live applications, I wouldn't go below Regular Slinky strings.
Ok strings for the money
These strings are good... especially for the money... definitely just as good as most other more expensive strings I've used...
but I still prefer ghs boomers... more durable and better low end...
The ghs are very hard to break... even on an extra light gauge like this...
but the ernie ball will most definitely break under some heavy bending ... but otherwise have good tone. But then again, not as good as the cheaper ghs boomers
Low E String
I ended up using all 3 packs in under 3 weeks because the low E constantly pops at the tuning peg. I play on a strat and they not only feel amazing they have a nice tone as well. Just wish the E didn't break so often.
dead strings
good strings, that is when they work.
purchased a set of strings, A string was dead sounding. but new pack of strings, low E string too, sounded dead.
not sure if it was just a small bad bunch, or if ernie ball has quality control issues.
i wouldnt really reccomend them, however, theres really no strings that are any better, adding upon that fact, these are really the only affordable strings out there. i guess good for the price though.
Defective on most strings
These are my favorite strings. They are now junk. Almost everyone of them from many packs has defects on each string. Not just the wound strings. This has been going on despite opening new packs. High Estring and B string had five or 10 of these notches. If you run your fingers across it you can feel that part of the string is missing. I only gave it two stars out of kindness. My favorite strings are now junk
Lifeless Tone
I have used the strings for sometime, always loved them. I ordered 2- 3 packs, my tone sounded flat and lifeless and guitars would not stay in tune with my American Professional Strat and Tele. I change strings quit often. I tune to pitch give each string a couple of pulls, retune, play a little bit, re tune and good to go, not with these, lifeless from the start. I put on the Fender 3250L's 9-42's on both guitars, so much better and brighter tone, I will stick with those from now on and give the remaining Ernie Ball strings away.
Eh.
Snapped two strings (A and hi e) after a week and a half of use... I recommend Fender Bullets if you're going with a gauge this low, since those stay in tune for longer and are sturdy as all h***. I admit I play a little harder than the average guitar player, but an A string shouldn't snap quite that soon after restringing your guitar. Slinkys are great with the higher gauge (I use 52's on my hollowbody, and I don't have a single complaint with that gauge at all), but once you get this thin, they have issues staying in tune and, well, they break. A lot. Unless you play ultra light soft rock in a higher tuning, then I really don't recommend these.
Maybe I'm wrong
I bought a set of three of these and put on my Strat. I broke three or four before I finally got a set to stop breaking. I admit, breaking the low E was my fault (who can break a low E anyway?) But breaking two B strings? Out of this I will have to purchase more single strings to make another set. I like their feel of these strings, but they just seem flimsy to me. Hard to keep in tune so far. I won't purchase anymore. And I don't trust them. Sorry guys.
Low Quality
Have not purchased Ernie Ball strings in over 30 years (and won't anymore). D string broke while tuning the guitar (was not even at full tension), I have never had any of the lower three strings break on an electric guitar in over 40 years of playing. Also, the high E (.009) sounds awful. Purchased as part of a special, lesson learned.
Do not buy these.
I used these strings for about 3 years and rarely had any problems. Within the last few months I have seen a great decline in the quality of these strings. They do not stay in tune well and they constantly break.
