My Favorite Strings

By Vincent from Philadelphia, PA on October 5, 2022

Regular Slinky .010-.046 have been my favorite strings for a while. This gauge produces a rich sound and is not difficult to bend. They sound great on my SG. Hoping to try them out on other guitars in the future. I have bought these a few times and I intend to again in the future!

These strings are fantastic. Ez bending and great sound. Came very nicely packaged. There are few musical stores in my area but with Sweetwater I don't need one here,I have one!

The gold standard.

By Andrew Becker from Alberton, MT on November 16, 2021 Music Background: Tinkering fool

The EB regular slinkys are in my experience the most versatile standard 10-46 gauge string set available. I run 'em on all my electrics with everything from hard tails top wrapped to string through or hipshot. They just feel smoother and have a very balanced tone that seems to last a bit longer before becoming what I call "plinky" sounding. It's all anyone I know has ever used.

The Go To Guitar Strings

By Chip from Las Vegas, NV on January 19, 2021

There's a reason Ernie Ball has been the string giant for so many years. They're just plain good and reliable. I haven't had complaints with any of my sets and I will continue to use them for years to come.

Best 10s in the business

By JKC from New York on November 23, 2019 Music Background: guitarist

I've been using Slinkys for more years than I can count. I use different gauges on different guitars. The Regular Slinky 10s are perfect on my SG. Would never switch to anything else.

The only strings for me

By Peter Ponomarev from Washington on January 16, 2019 Music Background: Guitar, keyboards, drums

Every electric guitar I've owned since 1990 has had Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys on it. You get enough resonance and power, and the tone is very neutral -- The strings just respond to how you use your hands and tone knobs. You never feel like you're fighting the initial sound of the strings.

Fantastic strings!

By Jonathan E. from Ypsilanti, MI on February 10, 2018 Music Background: Played in bands, hobby and passion being a musician

I have been using these strings for YEARS. They last a long time and sound great! I've only had a string break (high E-9) one time in 10+ years and when I emailed Ernie Ball about it because it was from a new set, they mailed me two new 9 strings and threw in a rad sticker. Great product with great customer service. Try them!

worth buying

I'm a guitar collector and constantly have to restring my instruments. The slinkys seem to mantain their brightness longer than any other brand in the price range. Hiighly recommended.

We first bought one pack of strings a couple years ago because oh the price, and the service they provided kept us coming back. They take the worry out of ordering online and they know their products and stand behind their word.

Great, Reliable Strings

EB ten gauges are hands down the best strings I've ever used. Great sustain and bite and on top of that, they almost never break. The price helps too

Great Strings! Greater Store!!!!

By Mark Costantini from Kensington, CA on December 17, 2013 Music Background: Semi-Professional

I've been playing for decades semi-professionally(hundreds of paying gigs) and there just aren't any better strings out there. I suppose that's why Eric Clapton and Keith Richards used them as well.

But this really isn't a review of the strings, It's a review of Sweetwater. I ordered three sets but they were apparently out of them. I got a call from Sweetwater within five minutes of my order apologizing for any delay. The strings showed up at my door out in California a couple of days later with a huge Thank You note and some Christmas candy, which absolutely thrilled my children.

Let me remind you, this was not an order for a $3,000.00 boutique amplifier, this was and order for three sets of guitar strings.

Based on my experience, Sweetwater is an exemplary music comapny in all regards and I would recommend them in the highest regard allowable my man.

Nice Strings

By Sweetwater Customer from United States on March 7, 2013 Music Background: hobbyist

Great strings. Sound nice, work good, look nice, etc. What more do you want? They don't cost a ton of money, and they do the job. I have them on a strat and a Les Paul and they are awesome on both. I play an hour or so every day, and they seem to hold up pretty good. No reason to buy really expensive strings, these are perfect.

Great Well-Balanced Strings!

By Thomas from Huber Heights, OH on October 27, 2012 Music Background: Hobbyist

I have since the start relied on Ernie Ball for my strings on electric guitars. Part of the reason is how popular and wide spread they are. My favorite Artists/Bands use them too! ; Jimmy Page, The Edge, Jimmy Eat World, Switchfoot, Anberlin. These strings provide both warm and bright tones. Best of both worlds right?! Providing a balanced range, with clarity, and sustain. Work great with not just Standard Tuning but also; Drop D, Half Step, Drop D#. These are a must equip for your electric guitars!

The best

Best electric guitar strings.... period.

By Matt from Cleveland, OH USA on January 31, 2010 Music Background: Former Amature Punk Guitarist, Hobbyist, Home Recording

I've been playing guitar for 13 years, and have used almost every type of string out there, until I tried Ernie Ball. I used to use the pink Super Slinky strings, now I use the Regular Slinky (little easier on my fingers and better bass frequencies) for both my six and seven string guitars, wouldn't string them with anything else!

The best strings i ever had

By Bryce Saylor from Fort Wayne IN on January 22, 2010 Music Background: Guitarist

Very good strings and they last a long time. They are cheap but play like they are the best. They are the best i would recommend it to anyone who plays guitar.

The Best String

By Jesus from Edgewood,MD on October 11, 2008 Music Background: Play guitar in a band for about 5 years

This strings are awesome. They last long, sound great, and soft on your finger tips. I been using this string and they never let be down. I recommend to clean your string with a microfiber cloth everytime your done playing(helps it last longer). And apart of this its ships for free here at SWEETWATER.

Back to Slinky's

By Jacob from Kentucky on February 14, 2020 Music Background: 60's, thru 90's rock, over 50 yrs playing guitar.

I started using Slinky's in the late 70's through to early 2000. About 8 yrs ago I went on a quest to find the best strings. (Bored I quess) I tried so many brands I lost count. Some were good at some things, poor at others, some were trash. The only ones I found I liked a little better were Dean Markley Cold Steels but no one seems to have them in stock for a long time now. I went back to Regular Slinkys. They have the tone I like, for all the different music I play. I change strings around 3 months (90 hours of playing). I'm a rhythm player & don't do alot of major string bending. Keep them clean, they last as well as any out there. Like I said, for my playing style I like the overall tone.

Like em

By Terry from Philly on March 3, 2019 Music Background: Very Intermediate

Put them on a Gibson Les Paul after usuing Bright wires, EB were very bendable and toney to me. After that put em on my Strat, same great tone, bending like crazy. Until I find something better, these are my go to.

Ernie Ball 10s

By Sweetwater Customer on February 5, 2019

I have used these Ernie ball regular Slinky's for over 20 years and will never change brands. They stay in tune and one of my strats neglected not been restrung in over 10 years with these strings. Still holding good tuning albeit drop off in tonal quality but still very much playable, imagine that ! I play that strat now regularly as it has a very playable sound with these old ernie's I installed back in 2007. It was played regularly after installation for a year than put away with no string breakage. Imagine my surprise when I dug that forgotten guitar out of moths only to find it in close tune and very rock out playable. The guitar world would not have lighter guage strings if it went for Ernie Ball.

great strings and customer service

By Dan Frame from GLOUCESTER CTY, NJ on July 30, 2018

Great strings to use. Had a string break during restringing and they send me and entire new set very easy to deal with and most stood behind produect.

Very Good String

By Sweetwater Customer from Miami on September 27, 2017

I like the string a lot but not die for them, try due a backorder and to test other strings, if this is your first string for sure you ended love them specially beginners because is super soft, it has great tone and sustain my only cons is it has a wear felling like, you are playing with rubber band strings due the softness, specially if you came from GHS or D'addario where the string is more firm.

Ernie Ball=Solid!

By Jonathan E. from Ann Arbor, MI on May 2, 2016 Music Background: Bands/Recreational

I have used these string for about 7 years now and haven't looked back. By far the .010-.046 strings are the best out there in my opinion. They have nice sustain and I feel have a great sound for music from mellow to metal. Oh I almost forgot, I did have a high E string snap as I was setting up my guitar. It didn't get snagged or anything, it just broke. I did have the strings around for a good while though. So, I emailed Ernie Ball to see if the strings can lose strength over time or "go bad." They explained that they shouldn't as they are sealed (makes sense). They ended up asking for my address and mailed me 2 new high E strings and a ton of stickers. AWESOME customer service! (Just like Sweatwater) ;-)

What can you say?

By Tim Pakledinaz from Radford, Va. on October 21, 2014 Music Background: About 40 years of gigging, 15+ running a recording studio, live sound.

A solid performer for years.

Long lasting, great tone

By Sweetwater Customer on May 14, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician, Recording Engineer

These are the only strings I can rely on that have great tone and won't break after one or two gigs like other brands I've tried (and I've tried a LOT!). Also, they don't rust easily (I sweat like a maniac on-stage) and will last a long time if you keep them clean.

Slinky

By Chad Stewart from Illinois on September 29, 2017 Music Background: Guitarist, 15 years.

I've recently switched from Elixir 10 guage to these Ernie Ball Regular Slinky. In my opinion, these Slinky's offer far better tone that I would describe as bright, punchy, and organic, relative to the Elixirs. However, after 4 sets I've found that the Ernie Balls have far shorter life span, in terms of tone and breakage. Given that strings should be changed after a few months I'll go for tone and still save a little money.

Alright, Consistent Strings

By Jake on July 12, 2015

I used to rely exclusively on these strings. They are very average. Now I use these only when cost becomes priority over performance, which is on certain guitars, under certain conditions. Here's why.

In my experience having gone through countless packs of these over the years, their quality is very consistent. They are also very well-priced, which leads to much of their popularity. They also feel pretty good to play, kind of on the soft side when new.

They sound pretty good, but they are nowhere near the top of the heap for tone. They are not the longest-lasting or strongest strings out there by any means. They are just very average, which is fine. They stand up to everything you would want (heavy bending, whammy bar dives and pulls). They take a little while to break in (stretch) compared to some other brands but once they're broken-in, they have a decent lifespan with consistent tone across much of their useful life.

Overall I can't say anything too terribly great or negative about these strings. After using them exclusively for years and finally upgrading more recently, I must say that I still buy a handful of Regular Slinky packs every once in a while. They're inexpensive and good to have around. They are consistent performers, so you always know what you're getting.

They're also very well-packaged if you care about that sort of thing.

Classic Product, Classy price.

By Tim Hayes from CA on September 18, 2014 Music Background: been playing guitar over 50 years, hoping to get it right some day

What can I say? If you are a player you know about these strings. I first used them back about 1969, I think. Had heard that Hendrix played 008s. So I did too for several years. Gradually found I liked a somewhat heavier string. And they don't break the bank!

My all time favorite strings

By Kevin from Republic, MO on February 29, 2012 Music Background: Pro musician

I've used Ernie Ball regular slinky strings for over 30 years. Every time I try something different I come back to these. They have been the most reliable strings I've used. As long as you change them regularly, based on how often you play, they never break and hold their tone as well as more expensive strings.

Great long lasting

By Chazz from Taunton, MA on February 7, 2012 Music Background: Composer, Musician

I switched to ernie ball after having some work done on my guitar. I never thought there would be a big difference but there is, these strings really last, have a great tone and I have not broken one since the switch. Great long lasting string!

eenie ball regular slinky

great sounding strings.....i usually use daddario. i broke the high e string after about a week though. i guess that happens sometimes.

An old standard...

By The Living Legnd from So. Cal on July 3, 2015 Music Background: Semi professional for 33 years.

These strings are nice. Consistent quality, and overall good sound and average string length. I usually get a couple weeks out of them.

Sound fine, breakable as heck

By Jeff on July 1, 2021 Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist

I've got no gripes with these strings for the way they sound or play, but there are some usability issues that keep me from recommending them to others.

1. Slinkies aren't that long, so putting the D and G strings on my archtop was almost impossible due to the lack of extra slack.
2. Dang, these things are easy to break. I hardly ever break strings, but several of these strings have broken on me. I guess what I've heard about Slinkies being breakable was true.

Stiff like wires

By Sweetwater Customer on August 18, 2023

Switched to these from the D'Addario NYXL's and these were noticeably more stiff and rougher to the touch.

I've never heard my guitars SO Dead and Lifeless

By Valery Klimovich from BROOKLYN, NY on March 7, 2021

Well title said it all
I've bought pack of 3 and put them on my Gretsch G5622T, Lee Malia Custom Les Paul and Danelectro U2
3 of my fav guitars and I used to string them with Elixir.
I've been religiously using Elixir bcs I knew that they are great for me but a lil pricy, so I wanted to try something new bcs with 11 guitats I feel like it's "a little too much" money to restring all of them.
So many players are using Ernie Ball so I wanted to give it a try. So pink one - super slinky - is fine, doesn't sound that bad and feels nice but 10-46 Regular Slinky is SO BAD I couldn't believe it.
I'd rather use my super dead 3 month old Elixir then ever use Regular Slinky ever ever ever again.
Complete trash.

By Michael on April 6, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist

these strings have to be the worst I"ve ever seen in my entire life, they break so easily if bending a string and are terrible quality, don"t buy these strings unless you enjoy restringing your guitar every time you play.

I hate them

By Jelly Bean from Deltona, FL on March 5, 2016

I don't know why people love these strings, but good for them. They go out of tune much quicker and just seem like Walmart strings to me. I like Gibson vintage strings. Fender bullets for the strats.

Don't buy these pieces of crap

By Garrett Fry from Greenville Pennsylvania on July 6, 2015 Music Background: Amateur guitarist and blues lover

I can't express how much I hate these strings. Once you play them for about an hour you feel like you need changed them again. Because I put these strings on my brand new Stratocaster I start to like it a little less every time I play it. The only reason I give it one star is because Sweetwater won't let me give it zero.

these are great strings

By Christian from Spokane,WA USA on April 1, 2005

these are very good strings if you like to play fast or like power chords these strings are not heavy strings but they are really good strings to play with i love them because i play single notes really fast so thats why i say buy these strings!
