Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .011-.048 Reviews

.011-.048 Custom Gauge Electric Guitar Strings, Nickel Wound, Power Slinky

Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. When you open a pack of his strings today, you know you're getting a quality set of strings designed to give you great tone, reliable performance, and long life. You can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Solid Strings

By Jacob from Chicago, IL on June 1, 2022 Music Background: Music Producer

I've used .011s on multiple guitars for many musical styles. They sound great.

Awesome. Thick, full, yet soooo playable.

By JKC from New York on November 23, 2019 Music Background: guitarist

I use these power slinkys on my Strats and Teles. Much bigger tone, allows for faster tremolo picking. Let's me dig into the strings more to get a little more tone pushing through my single coils. Have been using multiple gauge Slinkys for more years than I can remember. Would never switch to another brand. I often try different acoustic strings, but when it comes to my electrics, it's Ernie Ball Slinkys every single time without fail.

Top Wrapped Les Paul

By T Beau D from Berdoo Mountains California on July 29, 2018 Music Background: Guitar Player

Been using Ernie Ball strings since 1969 ... why change now? I thought I'd try a heavier gauge string on my LP after trying the "top-wrapped" idea ... glad I did, Now, I have to order 12 sets to my LP ...

Ernie Ball Power Slinky's Rock!

By Jonathan E. from Ypsilanti, MI on February 10, 2018 Music Background: Passion and hobby. Played is bands. Musician.

I put these on my Schecter Tempest Custom because I wanted a little heavier tone and something that would sound and feel great if I ever downtuned. These strings were the answer! I have always loved and played Regular Slinky's, so I gave these a try and they rock! Try em'!

GREAT FOR DOWNTUNING!

By Gearhead from Waxahachie, TX on January 24, 2018 Music Background: Professional musician

We play some songs that are tuned a full step, and a full step with 6th string down another full (like drop d) and these fill the need very well. Sound full and stay in tune. I've used Ernie Balls Super Slinky off and on for years and recommend them and Power Slinky to everyone!
So if you are into lower tunings, give these a try!

Heck yeah d00d

By Hunter from Mobile, Alabama on September 11, 2017

I used to play Ernie Ball strings but wasn't satisfied with the ones I had tried and found others from other brands I much preferred. I avoided their strings for a couple years but recently got a pack of Power Slinky just to give them another shot. I normally use fairly thick strings and wanted something different to experiment. Purple is also my favourite colour, so I went with these and really enjoy them. They're on my Strat now and feel great on it. They're really pleasant in Drop C. I'll be sticking with these for my Strat and getting Beefy Slinky for my SG. Ernie Ball, I'm sorry for ever doubting you guys. Thank you for helping me sound less garbage.

Great strings

These are my favorite strings. Great compromise between bigger full sounding strings and playability.

Great Strings

By Crash on November 2, 2016

I've had these strings on my Les Paul for about year now and they still sound good. When I first put these strings on they had bright clear amazing tone and stayed in tune and even a year later they still sound good. Overall I am totally impressed with these strings.

Love these strings!

By Keith from Fairview, CA on February 14, 2015 Music Background: Amateur Musician

These strings sound great and feel good. Use them on all my electric gits. In fact, I haven't had a new guitar yet that I haven't put these on in the first few days. Perfect for me.

Great Dig in strings

By Thasherz4life from Marble Falls,TX on December 25, 2013 Music Background: 6 years of Guitar playing

The ultimate thrasher set of strings, you can put alot of aggression on these for thrash metal, 9s need to be babied a little in comparison lol. These EB 48-11 stay in tune for sure in E, and are good for Eb and D as well. Very good elasticity.

Raw power

I have been using ernie ball strings for years. Used their .009s and .010s for a long long time but this last year I have been using these .011s and love them. Rough on your fingers at first but the tone you get is better than any band-aid.

My go to strings.

By Trevor from Nashville, TN on September 22, 2017 Music Background: 10+ years gigging/touring musician.

Every single guitar I've owned has been graced with a set of Ernie Ball strings. You just can't go wrong with them. I have tried other brands and just keep coming back to these. I prefer Power slinks and beefy slinks for my style of playing. Go getcha some Ernie ball!

Great strings

By Roger from AR - Arkansas on July 3, 2017

Awesome strings and Guage selection. I play mainly hard rock and heavy metal and these are my favorites, besides you can't go wrong James Hetfield (Metallica) uses them.

Excellent

Great string that lasts a long time.

They’re quite the bang for your buck

By Jack from Missouri on January 12, 2022 Music Background: Mediocre guitarist.

These are some great strings if you want to go to drop D but anything lower is risky. They're perfect for slight detuning. I keep them a half step lower than normal so I can play a bunch of alternative, grunge, and rock riffs. My high E broke but that's because of my tuning peg and nut. I tried them on a cheap guitar that just needs some work but it at the end of the day it gets the job done. It's the guitar I use to try new strings. I'm glad I had bought a spare pair because now I know that I might stick with these for a while. If you have a cheaper setup maybe look up some tutorials on how to fix it so it works better but if you have a good setup and are into detuning, definitely pick these up.

I'm a long time user

By Sterling from Central Florida on June 10, 2017 Music Background: 43 Years as a working picker and singer

These strings have always served me well for at least seventeen years now. Lately I've needed to change them quite a bit more often because they go dead and the high strings start buzzing like a Sitar if I don't. My action is professionally set and notably higher than average but the shorter life is probably coming from my new stainless steel frets. This seems logical to me because the stainless is harder than the strings. Am I right ? Anyway,Ernie is probably still making good strings.

Not the same Ernie Ball

By Donald Quaglia from CA on January 3, 2023 Music Background: Long time Player, Amp and Guitar lover

Purchased 10 sets of Power Slinky strings from Sweetwater Seven sets had rust on the, 11-14-18 gage strings.Total Garbage What a waste of my money. What happened brand new strings in air tight sealed package with rusty 11-14-18 strings. Talk about poor Quality Control what a joke.
