Great pedal but does have limitations.

By Tom from California
Music Background: Musician and music industry technician

I like the simplicity of having only a 3 band eq and it's sounds just wonderful in every setting unlike an eq with more bands, the boost is great for driving the front of your amp too.

However, I do find that when I use it in my effects loop it's a bit lacking. The extra eq bands go a long way here but also the boost it not very practical as there's no adjustment and a 10db boost in the effects is an absolutely insane volume jump. Also, when changing presets the settings glide to the next setting instead of jumping instantaneously which can sound odd in certain situations.

It's a great pedal if you're trying to make multiple guitars sound consistent on your rig or want a nice Swiss Army knife for the front end of your amp but get something else if you want to use it in your fx loop.

A great all-in-one for guitar but not pedal steel

By Brandon O. from Eugene, OR

I love Walrus products so I bought this just to try it out on both my electric guitar and pedal steel. It's a great, compact pre-amp utility for a guitar effects board - in fact, if you were going to own ONE pedal for guitar, this might be the one! But it came up short for pedal steel - no matter how I set it (including cutting frequencies), the pedal distorted my signal so my nice clean tone was gone...not by much, but it was noticeable. So basically this could work as a boost but not really a true EQ shaping device for pedal steel. I'm definitely holding onto it though - lots of fun on a guitar.

Great Boost and EQ

By Danny

Excellent for tone shaping. Three memory slots. Very easy to use and a powerful boost. Recommended.

Powerful and subtle

By Scott M. from DELAND, FL

Walrus says there are 700 different settings. I haven't done the math, or come close to exploring everything this pedal can do.

It sounds more crisp and clean than a POT based equalizer, more dynamic and hiss-free than many other pre-amps and boosters. It might seem like a lot of knobs and switches, but with no POTs it's easy to get back to that exact setting that was working, and then you can save it as a preset.

If your amp sounds great with a clean signal this pedal is all you need to get dozens of unique and perfect tones. It's also great for shaping a signal to feed into other effects, or at the end of signal chain to keep that great amp in it's happy place.

So many places to use it I may need another.

Nice Pedal

By Mel B. from Buffalo N.Y.
Music Background: Hobbyist

This pedal seems designed for live performance where the 3 presets are used to change EQ settings with or without Boost.
I'm using it at the front end of a studio set-up for guitar pedalboard EQ. You get a mild sweetening with the pedal on when it's flat. The Cut/Boost switches are very handy. The only issue I had was a bit of added noise to the treble EQ in any up position. It's probably just being neutral. Very well built. Walrus quality is beyond reproach.

Forget

By Rob from West Virginia
Music Background: Hobby

I have known for some time that I needed an EQ for my guitars and bass to really shape my tones. I tried the 10-band MXR and JOYO but wasn't satisfied with either. It seemed like with those EQs one should be able to "craft" the perfect tone.
There are 10 bands, right? But what I found was that, while there are a lot of frequencies to mess with, the results were "meh." Yes, you can hear subtle differences, but it's nothing a VST plug-in cant do. Sent them both back and gave up. Then I saw a video of this pedal on YouTube. Promising...then the pedal went on sale... Bought it.

Holy crap...this is it. This is the HOLY GRAIL of EQs. It's like turning the lights on your guitar and "seeing" what it can really do for the first time. When I plugged in my strat and started to play with my Keeley compressor before it, I was like: "What my guitar sounds like that?! You mean this is the SAME guitar I have been playing all this time?"

Seriously, I just came back from a 3-hour sit down with this thing and couldn't stop playing. It's like the first time I saw an HD TV and realized my TV sucked. There is no way I will ever go back to playing my electric guitars and bass without this pedal. No, you can not make me! It is THAT amazing.

Don't take my word for it. Listen. Watch the video by Brett Kingman. What he discovered with it is exactly what I experienced. The best way to put it is that it's like "leveling up" all your guitars/bass. The best thing is that it sounds just as good with a DAW with headphones as it does with an amp. Money well spent.

Swiss Army Knife for Tone

By Daniel
Music Background: Rock, blues, and P&W

This pedal is amazing. It's perfect for balancing out the differences between guitars in your rig. I run it in preset mode, with individual presets for my Strat, Tele, and SG. For the Strat, I'm able to roll off the harsh high end and use the boost to match the other guitars. In my Tele, I have lower-output Lambertones Crema humbuckers. Not much eq is needed, but the individual bands are all boosted slightly. The SG is where this really shines. I have Lindy Fralin humbucker-sized P90's and adding some high end really makes the neck pickup sparkle and the bridge cut perfectly, without losing any of the great midrange growl. Now, all three guitars hit my pedals and amp consistently, while still retaining their unique characteristics.

If you play multiple guitars in a set, this pedal is a must-have!

Thanks always to my sales tech, Jeff Jent, for outstanding service!

I don't know what took me so long!

By Evan
Music Background: Living room legend

I use this primarily for recording and I have been humbled by the EB-10's ability to sculpt tones and even put a little spark into an older MXR Dist +. I can't say why this one would be better than the rest but I can tell you what I like about it. The toggle switches for Low, Mid, and High are all cut/boost which I have used to send Mids into the far reaches of scooped oblivion. The knob positions are detented meaning there is no smooth transition of the frequency just parking your tweak at the next stop with a clear audible difference that doesn't go from almost there to way past what you were after. The boost switch is an added bonus, but it seems designed more for a finger than a foot especially with how close it is to the Hi toggle switch. In preset mode you can set up one of the 3 spot to have the boost on as you toggle through

For me, the presets are definitely the fru-its of good and evil. You can store three presets which is awesome and I've set them up for different guitars/tones. The evil is they are not on/off: they are 1 on, then 2 on, then 3 on, then repeat. You'll have to decide if that's something you can or want to make work. Then it's 3 seconds to get back to live mode.

Would I buy this again? Oh yeah!
