Too Hot For Many Applications

By Sweetwater Customer from FL

On the good side, the clarity is incredible. Unfortunately, this mic is so sensitive that it is a feedback machine for live music unless you have a silent stage. Same issues in a group practice room, in my experience. Go with the 945 and you will get all the clarity without all of the feedback and signal bleed (from other instruments and sound sources) issues.

Great Microphone

By JOSE M. from Spring, TX

Sennheisar e935 is super awesome! I was using the Shure sm58 but this e935 was very impressive. The sound is much better and no feedback noise at all. This is my 2nd e935 microphone. I just had to get another one. Highly recommend this microphone.

Great sounding and durable live mic

By VoodooKyle from Glendora, CA

I originally bought an e935 over 10 years ago. Several hundred gigs and dozens of drops were need before it was time for a new one. I got way more than my money's worth. And in the short time that I waited for my new mic while using an SM58, all I could think about was how much better the e935 sounds!

It's Just a Better Mic

By Christopher T. from Santa rosa, CA
Music Background: Professional Musician

I have had many mics and thought I had a "Shure" thing going yet this Sennheiser e 935 is just a better mic in every way. This mic has a lot of Clarity and makes what you are putting into the mic very clean and not woofy sounding. I use the 935 both hardwired or wirelessly into a BOSE SP1 Pro+ and L1 Pro 8 and it has enhanced my live sound greatly. I perform live solo acoustic shows and this Mic is my #1 choice for Vocals. I could only give 4.5 stars because the mic clip is seems cheap and not very durable. Bottom line I would highly recommend the Sennheiser e935 Microphone and I think you will love it once you hear what it can do for your sound.

Great Mic!!!

By Greg

I love this Sennheiser mic. I've been using Beta 58's for most of my musical lifetime, but I've always liked how my voice sounded through a Sennheiser. I've used this e 935 on several gigs now and am loving the crisp, accurate sound I get from it.

Solid Mic for the cost

By Paul M. from WA
Music Background: Sound Engineer, Musician, Producer.

I have been using the Sennheiser mics for at least 20 years now, the 900 series is solid with great feedback suppression. These mics just cut through the mix well with a strong top end and a well rounded mid and low frequency response.I would highly recommend these to any one looking for a good well built mic.

Excellent Live Performance Vocal Mic IMO

By Jay L. from St. Johns, FL
Music Background: Co-Lead Vocals - Bite the Bullet (Jacksonville, FL)

I recently had to pick up a new mic after my Miktek PM9 died after just one year. (It is supposedly repaired and on the way back). Anyway, based upon the excellent reviews I decided to go for one of these. I am not disappointed. Cutting through the mix effectively without feedback is not always easy for lead vocalists and our mics, but this one really shines. I have an SM58, Sennheiser e835, and the PM9 (eventually). The PM9 is the best of the group other than this one, in my opinion, but the e935 is a step above in clarity and tone. Plus, Sennheiser has a 10 year warranty (Miktek is only 2 years).

Didn't last 6 months

By David from Oklahoma
Music Background: Classical, Jazz and Church music trained pianist.

Our Church bought this mic about 6 months ago, unboxed it, placed on my boom stand at the piano and was never moved once. For a month now we thought we were having reverb and delay issues or something else. We finally figured out it was the mic. It began to crackle and drop my voice and go in and out with the volume. Very disappointed since this is $ mic from Sennheiser. I would not recommend this mic unless you have a back up.

Studio condenser quality for the stage!

By Dan from OH
Music Background: Many, many gigging years.

Studio condenser quality for the stage.
Add to that excellent, effective unwanted background noise rejection and a sweet, usable proximity effect.
I've purchased four of these mics over the years and would buy more if needed.

King of the stage mic's

By Steve C. from FL
Music Background: Rock / Alternative / Power Pop / Adult Contemporary

They were selling these for $ a few years back, so I snapped one up in jif. Would be worth the current price tag, though. I have used EV 357, Shure SM58, as well as Shure Beta58A, and this one beats them all in terms of depth, definition, power, and clarity. I do use the other mic's, still, and they are all fine mic's, some better than others, but the Sennheiser e935 is the best dynamic stage mic I have used.

WHATS NOT TO LIKE

By Walt from Arizona
Music Background: Professional Musician

I have use the trusty Shure 58 Beta for years. I came across the countless reviews for this mic. Used it today at a gig. Solo vocals and guitar. First thing I noticed is how crystal clear it is. Some words on the 58 were kinda boomy or muddy. Not with this mic. I found my vocals were quite clear on everything. Nothing was lost. I guess you could read the hundreds of reviews to explain it better than I can. If you are a 58 fan you won't be for long.

Sennheiser e 935 - Excellent Vocal Mic

By Rick from Grapevine, TX
Music Background: Degreed musician, church music director, guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist

I bought the Sennheiser e 935 looking for a mic that would work well in live performances and in recording. I am very pleased with its sound in both cases. I have not yet tried it recording my Martin acoustic, but based on the way my voice sounds through it and the sound of the Martin live, I expect that it will work very well.

These mics are legit.

By Jason P. from TX
Music Background: Bass player, DIY sound guy for church

I've only had 2 performances with these mics so far. And they are excellent quality. The clarity and crisp sound I was able to get from these actually blew me away. Don't let the price fool you. I bought them for choir mics, granted there's a total of about 6 choir singers. I get very clear voice pick up from everyone of my singers. I am very pleased with this purchase. And a special thanks to Rob, he's always called me on all my purchases to answer any questions BEFORE I even get the product. That helps a lot because once I receive the product, integrating it into my sound system is usually a breeze. Thanks again Sweetwater!

Excellent Vocal Mic!

By DeVeaux G. from Ann Arbor, MI

The e935 is an excellent all around vocal mic. I find it especially good for lower register vocalists. I'm a baritone and my music partner in our duo is an alto, and this mic seems to do really well in the lower range. Captures the depth and resonance with clarity and accurate tonal reproduction. Handles soft delicate vocals to all out passionate belting, capturing the all the subtleties and dynamic range. We run both into a Fishman SA330X and only use the built in eq and reverb with no compression or other f/x. Continually sounds great and has been durable. Also seems to resist feedback as we monitor off the PA positioned slightly behind us and off to the side to avoid monitors. Haven't had a feedback issue yet, or any other problems. Highly recommended!

Sennheiser e935 Mic: Powerful, Clean Vocals

By Joe J. from Virginia
Music Background: Vocalist, bassist, guitarist for 50+ years (and still learning)

The Sennheiser e935 dynamic mic has the power of a condenser mic and the clarity across the range of my voice that absolutely amazed me. This mic captures the natural sound of my voice, does not color the sound, and yet adds a dimension of open, airy-ness that I've only experienced with condenser and other high end mics. If powerful and clean sounding vocals matter to your act, this is a great mic to use. Thanks to Jozy Franco for the recommendation!

Just right for my voice

By Jack B. from Champaign, IL
Music Background: Guitar slinger, bass maniac, vocal entrepreneur, musician

As a working musician I've used a number of vocal mics over the years. I never shelled out for anything super high-end, but for a long time I relied on a Beta 58 and it served me well. Or so I thought. But on a whim I picked up a Sennheiser e935, just to see if what some of the reviews said was true. And after playing a few shows, I can confirm that the difference is night and day. I didn't even realize it, but there was a weird low-mid emphasis in the other mics I've used, or annoying brittleness in the upper mids. I could overcome or ignore it, but it made using the mics more work. In contrast, the e935 gave a natural translation of my voice into an electric signal, which is basically what a mic does. No weird midrangyness or upper frequency spikes. I find it much easier to sing and speak into the mic with this thing. On my most recent gig, the guy running sound told me he's had feedback problems with Sennheisers, but I haven't experienced that yet. I'd put up with that in exchange for the natural way it picks up my voice.

Great replacement for SM58

By Dov G.
Music Background: Music-lover since childhood. Frustrated amateur guitarist who realized decades later that I should focus on piano and keyboards. I’ve been studying intensely with a demanding classical teacher with a PHD in music and 20 years experience, and now I feel th

I got an SM58 decades ago when I played guitar in college.

3 years ago I started playing again, this time focusing on piano and keys.

After setting up my rig and trying singing along with my playing, I found the SM58 frustratingly "muddy" in the way it reproduced my voice. The clarity just wasn't there. I started researching online to see if others had a similar complaint, and which mics delivered the best results.

I settled on the E935, because of the wider frequency range, cardioid pickup pattern, "bleed" rejection on stage, physical build quality and mounds of positive reviews.

I am delighted with the results. When I sing through my Voicelive 3 Extreme vocal processor and XR18 mixer, my voice sounds clear and is well reproduced throughout my relatively wide vocal range.

I tend not to position my mic very close to my mouth, unlike many singers. I don't like the mic "in my face" as I play and sing. The e935 has no problem reproducing my voice even 6" away, positioned slightly above my head and aimed down at my mouth. Because I'm playing two stacked keyboards, I sometimes turn slightly to the left or right. The cardioid pattern on the e935 is tolerant enough to produce good results even so.

Love this Mic!

By Michael from California
Music Background: Guitarist, Vocalist, Hobbyist

I've had this mic for around two years now and it's one of my absolute favorites! My band and I have starting trying to run practices with a silent room (or as close as we can to silent) so having the right mics for vocals/instruments/overheads/etc. is very important to having a productive practice. This is a great mic for lead vocals (the higher output really pushes the vocalist to the front of a mix) and I've also used it for a snare mic and an amp mic. Honestly it's proven to be a great workhorse mic! It blows away my SM58 as an instrument mic, has extra "crack" when used as a snare mic, and does very well as a vocal mic. Overall, if you have an instrument/vocalist that you want to emphasize this mic will surely do the trick. If it weren't for the high price tag, I'd have two more in my mic locker already.

Very nice but also boomy

By Ziggy from Harrisburg
Music Background: Club musician, home recording, bass player and singer

This is a solid quality item. The demo videos of using these for a hammer are probably quite accurate. The positives are that you need to be close to it for sound to get picked up. That is good for a loud stage and feedback rejection. Clarity is best when you are very close to the screen but this is not the kind of mic that you "Eat or Swallow". But there is an annoying bump in the low end. I suspect it will pick up whoomphy stage noise and also it makes my vocals muddy. I bought this to replace my Sennheiser 835 as I believed the sales hype about this being better for singers. Nope - I will be staying with the 835. By comparison the 835 is crisp and punchy and cuts through the mix. Not muddy like this. So - this will be left in the bag and at home. Maybe I will use it for a kick drum some day or mic a bass amp. But it was a waste of money for me.

A great mic for a reasonable price

By Gene B. from Cape Cod. MA

Bought one of these during the recent... sale. I have used many, many vocal mics over the years and this one outperforms almost any of them. I like it so much that I bought a second one for a back-up or if I need one for guest performers sitting in with me. Excellent vocal reproduction with an above average zone of audio pick-up - but with very little feedback issues. Miles and miles beyond the classic Shure SM58 and SM47. Highly recommended!!!

Excellent replacement for Shure Beta 58A

By Richard from Washington
Music Background: Christian music and old cover tunes

Every voice mics differently, and my baritone sounds better thru the e-935. This mic clears up the mud in my low end and enhances the highs. It is not too bright, yet it sounds crisp. Last year I purchased three Shure Bets 58A mics for my bandmates and it improved our sound greatly over the plain 58's we were using. Now another upgrade might be coming after they try my new Sennheiser. Thank you Sweetwater and Aaron Tremain.

Best vocal mic under $400

By J. E. from Gulf Coast
Music Background: Sound man of 6 years, performing musician for 19 years.

I am a sound guy and performing musician/vocalist. I have been in the game for 19 years now, and this is the ONLY vocal mic I give to lead vocalists. I own the SM58, 58A (Beta), SM-57, 57A (Beta), Sennheiser e835, and the e935. The e935 is light years ahead of all those other mics. Here is how:

1) the feel - it feels more solid than any Shure mic I have used. It feels *professional*

2) the sound - SM58 and the 58A have too much low end for my taste. On the mixer, I give these a high pass at 115Hz for vox and still have to notch out lows! With the e935, not the case. The natural EQ of has much less of the plosive/boomy sound that the SM58 has. When you A/B this with an SM58, the sound quality is noticeably better for the e935, like comparing a Chevy to a Mercedes.

3) the look - a sleek, metallic jet black that looks matte but also somehow a tiny bit reflective? Very pro looking face-to-face.

4) feedback rejection - my hands-down fav thing about this mic is how well it fights feedback. Despite having a crisp, warm natural EQ, these things do not feedback nearly as much as the Shure mics do. These mics sit GREAT in a mix with very little EQ. When I bought this mic, the price tag had red fine print on it that said, "can get up to +6dB higher than standard microphone before feedback."

Buy it. You will never look back.

Mic Upgrade

By Sweetwater Customer

Been using a Shure SM58 and recently got to try the Sennheiser E835 wireless. Big change. After much research, I decided to purchase the E935 for my vocals. Clean, clear, smooth and all those things I was missing previously. Hard to believe a mic can make that much difference. Slight changes on the tone controls on my mixer actually come through the mix. I can dial in the exact sound I like. Haven't had any problems with feedback. This is a great mic and I highly recommend it for lead vocals.

Sennheiser E935

By Donald E. from IL

I've been doing live sound for going on 40years now on a professional level, we've been using electrovoice Nd767A microphones as main vocal mics and they have been awesome but as all things go they are beginning to get tired and not sounding as good as they used to so I started looking for what I could use for vocal microphones that were reliable and sound as good or better than the Ev microphones but at a budget that's affordable.

After listening to a to dozens of microphones and talking to a handful of other sound companies I decided to give Sennheiser a listen, I've been using their instrument mics for percussion instruments with great success and man I was sold, the high output and amazingly clean before feedback just blew me away!!!! We did our first large show this past weekend and were able to test them side by side with the Ev microphones and was amazed. I highly recommend these to anyone just starting out to world class touring entertainers, great looking and powerful! Make the switch! I promise you wont regret it. Give Skylar a call at Sweetwater, he'll hook you up rite.

Magic Mic

By Nick B. from Morrow, OH
Music Background: Singer/Songwriter at ASCAP

I was not aware of how complacent I had become over the years just getting by with the classic Shure SM58 at live shows. The Sennheiser e 935 has such a great frequency response and delivers a crystal clear signal no matter what range you happen to sing in. I would highly recommend this mic to anyone looking to upgrade.

Good choice for stage

By Bob O. from Mid Atlantic Optional
Music Background: Pro sound/bass/guitar/day job optional

This mic is very good on female vocals. Exceptional detail. Went for the Sennheiser after discovering the reduced proximity effect on their 835 compared to the standard issue sm58. Very helpful on singers that habitually work too closely and fill your signal with mud. The 935 is a class above those and out performs my old go-to beta87’s.

Sounded good, but unreliable

By Eric from Massachusetts

I've used good old Shure SM58s as my live vocal mics for 30 years and never had one die, despite very heavy use. After hearing good things about this Sennheiser and getting a nice deal on it (...here at Sweetwater on sale last year), I decided to try it out. On the positive side, it sounds great. I have a bass-baritone voice, and I liked the way my backing vocals and occasional leads sat in the mix.

Unfortunately, the mic died after 12 months. I take very good care of my gear, and this mic looked brand new. It had been transported gently in a padded mic case about a dozen times, never dropped or otherwise abused, and yet it stopped funtioning for me mid-gig last month. Thankfully, it was still under warranty, and I just received the repair (which I suspect is actually a replacement) today. I'll give it another shot, but my trusty SM58 is going along tomorrow to the next show as well.

I've been a singing musician for 55 years, and this is the first mic I have owned that wasn't made by Shure. Good feedback rejection

By Howard B. from Alamo, TX
Music Background: 50-yr performer, keyboards

I had been using a Shure Beta 58 for many years and it started losing its high end, probably from rough handling and too many 4-6" drops. Best Reasonably Vocal Mic for a Baritone

By Gregory C. from Virginia
Music Background: Baritone Vocalist

I haven't used a ton of Mics. I started with a Shure SM58, moved on the Sennheiser e835, and purchased a nice Shure SM87A for wireless applications (love that mic), but my go to mic is this e935. I'm a baritone and this mic just seems to capture the warmth in baritone voices better than anything else I have used. I'm going to get the e945 for some applications where I need a tighter pickup pattern, but for most gigs and recording, this is my mic.

Great Mic - For the right singer

By Matt
Music Background: Worship Leader - Singer/Song writer

This is an excellent mic, we currently use 5 of this for our church and have been absolutely pleased with their performance. Having said that, this isn't necessarily the best mic for everyone due to the tight cardioid pattern. If you are a lead singer or someone who sings backup and has no problem staying tight in the mic then you will love this mic. If you are a person who wanders and doesn't stay tight on the mic, I would recommend getting a mic like the e835 as that mic has a more open pattern. For example: When i sing lead I'm dead in the mic and this thing cuts through the mix excellent. When I switch over to singing back up harmony and pull off the mic for high notes, this mic will all but lose your voice if you pull off too far. I wouldn't say this is a bad thing, but you should be aware of the tight pattern. 6 inches off this mic and your barely coming through. If you know members of your band struggle to stay in the mic then I would not recommend this mic for them.

We used 5 mics - A Shure QLX wireless handheld with a Beta 58 capsule; a Sennheiser e825-S; an sE Electronics V7; a Blue enCore 200; and this Sennheiser e935.
The singers kept coming back to the e935. The mezzo-soprano was torn between the QLX Beta 58 and the e935. For the baritone it became the mic that he preferred, even over the QLX Beta 58. He gave this description, "The Beta 58's frequency response is like a brandy snifter, with a nice roundness in the bottom end, while the e935's frequency response is more like a champagne flute - even from bottom to top. It sounds like it just has everything there."
He immediately went online and shopped for one.
This is a great-sounding mic and should allow your vocals to cut through any live mix.

Good vocal microphone

By Sweetwater Customer from Space Coast, Florida
Music Background: Working club musician

A great microphone that won't drain your wallet. Perfect for live performing. While it may be a little more in price, it beats out a Shure SM58, I don't have to be right on top of this mic for it respond. Your sound man will love it.

Awesome Mic For Podcast, Voice Recording And Video Too!

By Howard O. from Vancouver
Music Background: Motivational Speaker

All I Can Say Is Wow! After a year with an SM57 for producing Youtube videos and Instructional Online Courses, I stumbled upon a review of the e935 and had this gut feel that this "vocalist's" mic would be perfect for my uses. And I've got to tell you it is spectacular! I had the SM57 connected to my audio interface through a cloudlifter to boost the gain and with a foam windscreen over top, and it did a great job (sounded warm and clean) but I always felt it wasn't really catching the full detail of my voice. So, I bought this e935, also connected it to the cloud lifter (Fethead, actually) and put the same windscreen over the grill and and Oh My! This thing sounds nothing short of amazing. It captures the all the nuance of my low tones without over extending them but then grabs all of the mid tones without over extending them either. The end result is a beautifully captured audio track with a natural sounding reproduction of my voice wrapped in a cover of audio warmth. I'm really REALLY Happy with this mic. It now sits on my desk permanently attached to my interface and Fethed and I use it for everything computer audio related: Zoom Calls, Skype Calls, Camtasia Screen recording, etc. Before purchasing it I demoed it and the e945 in-store as I was concerned about the potential sibilance that they might produce as I had seen some YouTube reviews pointing out they were prone to it. I also brought my 57, windscreen and Fethead so I could really compare as close as possible to my environment at home. I first tried the e945 which by all accounts is a better microphone but to my ear with my voice, it produced the greatest sibilance. The Foam filter tamed it but it was still there. Then the e935: Without the filter it was somewhat sibilant, but markedly less than the 945, but with the filter it was gone completely. Me and the sales associate just looked at each other and knew this was the mic. Then I plugged in my trusty 57 and although I have loved this mic, in comparison to the e935 it just sounded flat and dull. Had I never heard the 935, id probably still be happy with the 57 but when put back to back there's just no comparison. The e935 just shines! SOLD. I brought the thing home plugged it in to my interface and tried it both with and and with out the "Foam Ball" and there was no problem with sibilance either way: Conclusion - the interface and the PA system make a difference. On my set up the sibilance I found in the shop on their PA was non-existent when I used it with my own gear. The foam does warm the sound slightly and that's a good thing and it was only $4. The other bonus is that the e935 is a far more sensitive mic. It's still dynamic and the feedback & side rejection are incredible, making it perfect for an untreated room (like my office) but because it's more sensitive I could lower the gain on my interface 3 notches (from 6.5 out of 10 to 4.5 out of 10) and still have a cleaner louder signal than with the SM57. Keep in mind, these gain settings are with a Cloud lifter or Fethead. Without the inline signal boost I needed 9 out of 10 with the SM57 vs 7 out of 10 with the 935. This mic is a winner on all fronts. For vocalists it's renowned but it's also just fantastic for those of us who simply record spoken word. GET IT - You wont be sorry!

Best mic in my bag!

By Chris C. from Asheville, NC
Music Background: Play in churches and prisons

I've got ten mics. EV 767s, Blue enCore 100's and 300's, Audio-Tech wireless, AKG C1000s, and SE1 condensers. Plus I've used others, including the e835 Sennheiser. This mic is my No 1 mic.

Most mics are so individual to you, you not only have to try them, but I think sometimes you have to try them a long time. This mic when I first bought it, didn't "dazzle" me. I just thought it was a good mic. I kept on using my AKG C1000S or my EV767.

But particularly when it comes to just me and my guitar, this mic gives me exactly the tone I want/need. I would say, particularly for a baritone male, it's got to be the best mic out there.

Incredible mic

By Sweetwater Customer from New Orleans
Music Background: Producer, sound engineer, recording artist

This mic is the bees knees of live vocal mics. I literally tested this mic against several other very common live vocal dynamic mics including the revered sm58 and it blew them all away. The clarity and presence was incredible. The mic actually sounded very dynamic. The Germans do it again...

Great vocal mic

By Jeff from Missouri
Music Background: lifetime pro full time

Replaced my wife's SM 58 with this Sennheiser 935. Clarity of sound is unparalleled. You get perfect sound leaving the tone controls flat....had to turn the treble down from where I had it set for the 58. SM 58 is a good mic, no question...but this is the best live vocal mic you can get without spending 5 bills or more.

I don't know if it is better sounding than the beta 87A as many others have claimed; but, it is definitely same quality of sound and toughness. I believe it may be better for my voice than the beta. I love the way I sound through this mike. I would recommend it to others.

Sennheiser e935

By Dave from Schererville
Music Background: beside doing my own thing, I have sung with many of the biggest and best vocal soloists and acts this country has seen...you'd call me a name dropper.....

that rating is an understatement.....I have sung professionally on stages all over the country and have never experienced the quality that this mic provides....I can't begin to brag enough on this mic...the sound it produces is beyond amazing. I have a three octave range and this mic allows me to easily have my lowest notes clearly heard (peoples absolutely react to hearing those very low notes), to handling my high powerful falsetto without any distortion while allowing me to control every nuance and dynamic and dimension of my voice. TOTALLY PHENOMENAL MIC!! I will say, in addition, that you need to understand that it will also amplify any wrong notes, so make sure you are on your game...this Sennheiser e935 puts a huge smile on my face every time I use it.

By Sweetwater Customer from Texas
Music Background: Foh/ mon Engineer

Great responding mic! The lows are warm and don't break up or become muddy and splatty. The mid range is very powerful and stays clear at loud volumes and on loud stages. I would recommend this for any vocalist who wants that mic that gets the full range with great response.

Best in class

By Andy from St. Paul, MN
Music Background: 20+ years in a bar band

Every microphone company has a $100 microphone and a $160 microphone. Shure has their beta series and Sennheiser has the 935. I play in a band and the other guitarist uses a beta 58. When we do sound check I can shut my eyes and tell what microphone is being used. The 935 is fuller and rounder sounding. The 58s are great, but they don't bring a lot of character to the sound...which is OK too. If you have the greatest pure voice in the world, buy the 58...everyone else should buy the 935

Great Mic!

By Mike from Fort Myers Beach, FL
Music Background: Many years of performing band experience - Keyboards, Sax, Blues Harp, Vocals -

I just bought another 935! I play keyboards in our band and, for my vocals, I much prefer the 935 over my 945. Don't get me wrong, the 945 is great too, but when I'm playing keyboards AND singing at the same time, the 945's Supercardioid pattern is just to restrictive for me. Our other vocalist was using an 835, which was okay, but I got this second 935 for him to use instead of his 835. For me, these Sennheisers beat the heck out of the competition in both quality of build and in clarity and tone. PS Sweetwater is my go to place for all my equipment!!

Look No Further.

By Ryan H. from Philadelphia
Music Background: Producer, Composer, AV Tech Director for University, artist

I don't usually give a five star rating unless I am really blown away by a product. This product blew me away. I bought it about 3 to 4 years ago after days of research, comparing YouTube videos, frequency response charts, and reading reviews. Finally, I decided this was the one. I was totally right.

Here's how my first time using this mic went: "Check, Che- woah!"

This microphone presents a particularly detailed character and presence. Also, I have never had so much proximity control (with the right input gain). As far as dynamic microphones under $ go, this is the one without question.

I have used all the others - Blue Encore, SM58 (duh who hasn't), Beta 58, AKG D5, Electro Voice, the e835, Shure Beta 87a; I've even used the SM7b, MD421, and RE20 on my live vocals! The Shure Beta series is nice (especially the Beta 87a but that is $ and a condenser. Also doesn't sound great on everyone), the SM7b sounds great on some louder pop voices, the MD421 and RE20 are good...but when I go to write up a live sound department budget, the only mic I recommend is the Sennheiser e935. When I play out, I always bring my e935. It really is just the best. Literally sounds great on almost everyone.

The only other mic I would really recommend universally like this is the Sennheiser e965. That is a great mic. Better than this one undeniably. Still, Sennheiser is the bomb. Even the Neumann and Telefunken handheld vocal mics are "good but not for everyone" in my opinion.

In short: Unless you're okay with spending $700, just get this one.

Unbelievable...

By Harry S. from Inver Grove Heights, MN

Not much to say after reading the other reviews... I have used EV mics before and more recently the industry standard SHURE SM58.. I am a solo acoustic performer and will just say that the Sennheiser e935 is a game changer for me.. A night and day difference... Clean clear vocals with a pleasant sounding eq curve are obtained by running this mic just about flat (I had to cut the mids a bit - using the Line 6 L3t) Thanks Sennheiser for the great mic and Thanks Sweetwater (Derek Kemp) for the great service !

e935 - with two different singers

By Rollie H. from Clarkston, WA
Music Background: sound guy/bass player

I got an e935 after reading reviews and talking to a friend in a touring band ...

Two friends have used it, the first a female lead singer ... she used it with her hard rock band and really liked it, she noticed the clarity in her voice right away and had no problem switching from her 58 to the e935, she told me she's probably going to get one ...
(BTW, she's uses my Telefunken M-80 when we are doing our acoustic rock thing).

Next the 935 was used on New Year's Eve in a blues/rock/soul trio for a sort-of lounge blues gig ... the comment from the singer/guitar player was he liked the sound, but it was a lot more sensitive to distance than an SM-58, he moves around quite a bit and noticed that he needed to be on the mic more than he was used to ... so in that respect it's like some of the Audix OM mic's, it's more sensitive to distance than a 58.
He was wanting me to swap the 935 out for a 58 (I didn't bring a 58 to the gig) ... so for the last set I switched to the M-80, I had to bring the trim up as the M-80 is lower output than the 935, but as soon as the he talked into it his response was "YES!" ... the M-80 is smoother sounding with the same level of clarity as the 935 ...

The bottom line, I was hoping the e935 would be a less expensive ($170) alternative/replacement for the Telefunken M-80 ($250) ... it is, but it isn't, for sure the audience probably couldn't hear the difference, I've used the 935 and a Beta 87 at an open mic, I preferred the E935 it was easier to set and forget for the variety of voices ...
The 935 is a really nice mic, a great mic value overall, with clarity that makes vocals stand out it a nice way ... it's pretty close to what I was looking for, maybe 90%-95% there, but I'm spoiled by the M-80

Great Microphone

By Brad from Covington

I have used numerous microphones over the years for vocals. Shure SM58,57, Audix OM2,5,6 and Sennheiser e835. All are good mcs in my opinion. However, for my voice, the Sennheiser mics sound best. I'm still very happy with the e835.It has been my go to mic the past year. I just received the e935 for Christmas. I have tried it thru my pa system and it sounded great. I did a test comparing it to the e835 using the same exact settings in the same channel of the mixer. Basically, I just switched out the mics on the cable. The e935 did sound better than the e835. More clarity and definition.
I would definitely recommend this mic to anyone.

Really nice mic

By Judi from Los Angeles
Music Background: singer

I like this mic a lot. It really is good for my voice. I put a wind screen on it because it is a bit sensitive to plosive sounds - p's and b's and that is corrected with the screen. I have not found it a problem with other noise and if you have any voice at all you don't need to eat this mic to be heard. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is because of the sensitivity to plosives.

I set up for other singers and everyone sounds good with this mic.

Best Sounding vocal mic under $200

By Justin M. from Wheeling WV, WV
Music Background: Touring Audio Engineer

Sure there are better souring vocal mics out there but Im betting big money you can't find one below 200 bucks that sounds this great on so many different vocal types. For a dynamic mic the high end is unusually clear and smooth but still sounds nice and thick throughout most of the frequency range. It is now my "go to" mic for just about every vocalist. The value cannot be beat either.

Sweet Little Mic

By Susan B. from Sacramento, CA
Music Background: I have been singing and teaching voice for many many years. Mostly live, nightclub gigs singing popular and jazz styles.

Been using SM58 for many years. This mic has better fidelity. It seems crisper and cleaner than the Shure. It has a nice, solid, well balanced feel in your hand, and is resistant to feedback. I don't want to badmouth the SM58, it has been an industry standard, go to mic, for decades.
I took off half a star simply because only time will tell how it will hold up with professional use. But, no doubt this is a nice little mic, you will like it.

By Greg from Spring Hill, TN

I have several of these and love them! I do a lot of live performance recording (venues, etc.) These are great on vocals. They not only sound good, but I really like how much they reject the other instruments. It allows me a lot more flexibility when it's time to mix back in the studio.

Great dynamic mic!

By Michael T. from Bowling Green, OH
Music Background: Live Sound Engineer, Vocalist

I switched to this mic 2 years ago, when I decided to leave the outdated Shure SM58. I tried Shure's Beta series (awful), Heil's PR-20 and PR-22, and Audix's OM3. When I finally tried the e935, the clarity and response blew me out of the water. This mic sounds so much more natural than any other dynamic mic in its price range. The e935 has good low frequency response for male vocalists, and yet remains airy and clean for female vocalists. This is now my go-to dynamic mic for all live vocals.

Smooth and Clear

By Matt M. from Pensacola, FL
Music Background: Semi-pro musician (weekend warrior)

I've been using a Sennheiser 835 for 10 years and since I do mostly back-up and only 3-4 lead vocals per night, I thought "what's the difference" and was blissfully ignorant. Finally, after years of pleading from my sound man, I did some research and bought the 935. Um...it ROCKS! I noticed, immediately, that this mic has way more gain and clarity that the bargain mic I was using before. My vocals sound better in my IEMs and that makes a huge difference. More clarity, smooth sound and great gain before feedback: If you are a guitar player and have put off buying a new mic...stop, put down the guitar and get this mic. You will not be sorry!

What a difference!!! - Part 2

By Miguel C. from Mason, Ohio
Music Background: Recording artist - musician

Last night we performed live and as we were setting up the sound guys presented me with the mics they brought for us to select (the usual 4). I told them I had a 935 with me and their eyes almost came out of their faces and told me "that is the best mic for female singers". So, we set my 935 and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Her voice just carried, clear as it can be with minimum EQ. Her words were being understood by everybody (finally!!!). She hypnotized the audience!!

What a difference!!!

By Miguel C. from Mason, Ohio
Music Background: Musician, home recording, song-writter.

I am the musical part of a singer/songwriter duo. My partner (the singer, a mezzo-soprano) uses a wireless Beta 58a. People complain constantly about not understanding her. We always have to practically kill the low frequencies with the 58 and raise her mids and mid-highs. This 935, needed practically nothing!!! Well, I had to install a windscreen in order to try to reduce some the power-surges of my singer (she can belt with the best). We had a rehearsal last night with our supporting band and we used the 935 instead of her 58 and everybody was complementing her new sound. The clarity of her voice was remarkable (with the 58 it was more "muddy" Next test, recording!!!

Sennheiser e935 - Outstanding!

By Lenny P. from Rush, NY USA
Music Background: Amateur Musician, that has played in bands all my life.

I have been a singing in bands for a number of years now. I have tried numerous microphones in the past and most recently I purchased the Sennheiser e935 mic. As soon as I plugged the e935 in to test it, I was completely amazed. The clear and projecting tone was above anything else I had experieneced. I also use a vocal effects processor, and that combined with the e935, made my vocals really stand out during our last band job. It gave me a renewed sense of sounding more like a professional and I had a number of people pass back positive comments to me. I am 100% totally satisfied with the purchase of the Sennheiser e935. I just wonder why it took me so long to make that selection in my mic.

I've sang through a lot of different microphones over the years and haven't found anything other than the 58 beta that even comes close to the durability and flexibility of the e935. This microphone can handle just about anything you throw at it... Trying to stop myself from buying another one right now and was hoping that by typing this it would distract me, but if anything I'm about to add another one to my cart. God Bless Sennheiser.

I run this through my Fishman sa220 and it is a beautiful pairing.

Senn e935

By Charles T. from Sandyston, NJ USA
Music Background: I play music whenever I can.

I bought this mic for my wife. We do mainly open mic's, and she brings her own microphone with her. We had been using my SM58. If it ain't broke, I usually don't fix it, but I thought she would dig a mic of her own. At first she was not wild about it, because the sound was too good, but now after a few performances she wouldn't use anything else. The e935 has great clarity, which really helps her voice to cut through. I'm no sound tech, but I can hear that this is a great mic.

Once again our sales guru, Greg Baum, was right. You can't blow spit into a Shure 58 for 25 years without it effecting the preformance of the mic. If you haven't tries a Sennheiser on stage, bet one and be prepared for the clarity and full range response.
The e935 is not there most expensive, but I am not sure how much better it could get. As always, thanks Sweetwater!

I bought two of the e 935s to give to two people that I sing with and when I tried one of them out ,I really liked it. That night ,I gave one to one of my friends and it sounded, really, much better than the 58 that he had been using.I based my purchase on reviews and forums and on the voices that my bandmates have and it worked. I think 58s are fine for some, but the e 935 gives you more. I hear more definition with the Sennheisers AND I think that Sennheiser has good customer service,if ever needed. Sweetwater is great to deal with, too. They make it easy and quick and very personable.

This Mic Rocks

By Bryan from New Jersey
Music Background: Live Sound Engineer, Pro Musician (Singer, Guitar)

This mic gives you everything it says and some. I have been using Sennheiser's for years now. I love my e835, which I have turned countless musicians on to. It is warm and really cuts through the mix, but the e935 has just so much more presence and warmth as well as clarity. I cannot believe for this price, I found a mic that I love more than my e835. Other's have tried to get me to use Beta 58s's and Audio Tech. and such, but I have never liked their feel and response. For me, the best microphones out there for the money are Sennheiser, period, end of discussion.

This mic is the way to go! I was hooked on blue mics and then found out about these, had a shure sm58A beta, blue encore200, and the sennheiser.... Of course I got this one. The Shure, wayyyy to hot harder to control. The Blue, very dull had to boost the gains up alot just to get normal playing volumes. Sennheiser, took both those good sounding mics and put them to shame!

Excellent Good Mic!!

By Kyle H. from Miami, FL
Music Background: Pro Steeldrum Musician and Recording engineer

Got this mic for vocals after hearing all the great reviews. Went to my local music store and tested the e 935, EV N/D 767 and e 838. I was very impressed with this mic over the EV N/D 767 and it sounded better than the e 838 also. Very strong and well built mic. I highly recommend getting this mic if you're a vocalist looking for a very strong, excellent sounding mic.

It's like butter

I'm quite impressed with the 935... it has a pleasing tone balance with smooth highs and a limited proximity effect. Of course, everything is application specific; SO - I put it on my vocalists for: a 50's/60's early rock cover band and a celtic folk/rock band because this mic is not harsh at all and fits the vocals right in the sweet spot. I work with another modern alt/hardrock group and for them I stick with the Shure Beta's because they have more of a "cutting edge" to it. So the 935 isn't perfect for everything (no mic is), but it's certainly worth a try.

Awesome Microphone!!!!

I compared many microphones before buying this one. Let me say this mic delivers a warmth and a richness like a mic that is 3x the price. I was sold once I sang into it!!!

Incredible

The band Keane turned me on to this mic. I decided to purchase one and give it a shot and it definitely outperformed the expectation. I gave it to our church for the worship pastor to use replacing his B87 he uses IEM and was very thrilled after the switch. The sound this Mic produces is worth at least twice the price they ask for it.

Fantastic Results

I totally was not expecting this mic to be as good as it is. I write and record hip hop music and found this mic to be perfect for the application. This is the best mic you can get before you start heading into condensor mic territory. I have this thing hooked up to my macbook pro through an M-Audio Fast Track USB and the sound quality is amazing.. I was able to redo the dubs on some of my songs and tottaly made them sound much cleaner and crisper than the original gritty recordings.

Quality Microphone

By Mr. G. from Portland, OR, USA
Music Background: Play in small acoustic band

The e935 is a great dynamic mic. Excellent for vocals, it picks up the sound nicely even at some distance, or can be sung very close-in.
Though it's not billed as an instrument mic, I tested with an acoustic guitar against some other popular dynamic mics and it was a clear winner. I use a condenser mic for studio work but prefer dynamics for live, and this one delivers.
I see it billed everywhere with a frequency response of 40 - 16000, but its manual claims to go clear up to 18,000. Whichever is right, my ears say this mic does the job.

This mike rocks..

I has smoothness..and clarity , it has high rejection..of feedback...
just used it this tuesday..and the house walls were brick..with slick wood floors... not a peek...just set it on the stage...and watch how every performer will pick it out for their mike..it really enhances suttle vocal passages...and tames loud vocals... it's a great mike..for those who have a voice a la Patti labelle, Chaka, A Keys, A franklin.. range..but like any good instrument try before you buy...
