Victory Amplification V40 The Duchess MKII 40-watt Amplifier Head - Compact Sleeve Reviews

40W, 1-channel Tube Guitar Amp Head with 3 Voices, Mid Kick, Vintage/Modern Reverbs, 3-band EQ, FX Loop, and Low-power Mode - Compact Sleeve

Featuring upgrades inspired by the prestigious Victory MK Clean model, the Victory Amplification V40 The Duchess MKII supercharges the brand's noble formula with superior tone-shaping potential. This 40-watt tube amplifier head begins with the original Duchess’s brilliant sound, comprising both refined American cleans and midrange-forward British bite. That transatlantic tonal flexibility comes courtesy of the amp’s Voice switch, which now leverages a third MKII voicing for even greater sonic control. Moreover, the 2-position Mid Kick control of the original Duchess now sports a third flavor, offering an enhanced level of midrange sculpting that’s sure to thrill even the pickiest tone tweakers — and that’s before you even get to The Duchess MKII’s powerful 3-band EQ! Even the reverb circuit of the original has been elevated with a dynamic Modern reverb voicing to complement The Duchess’s traditional spring reverb splash. Topped off with a series effects loop, a low-power mode, and streamlined aesthetics, the Victory Amplification V40 The Duchess MKII only enhances the sound and performance of a true modern tube amp classic.

Mother of an Amp

By Sweetwater Customer from WV

TL;DR : Great amp. Takes pedals and pickup combos well.

Experience: Mostly live in home studio. Demo recordings / Scratch Tracks with occasional live playing.
I play this with a 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion G12M-65 Creambacks. I also use the Two Notes Torpedo Captor X.

This is an amazing amp. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now. It has taken everything I have thrown at it with ease. I really hate to say this is a "pedal platform" amp, but I play everything from Lo-fi & Jazz to almost medal and I get my sounds from my pedal board and this is my ideal amp. JHS Violet / Hardwire SC-2 Valve Distortion / Wampler Ratsbane / MXR 108 Fuzz are the most "Gain" pedals I've thrown at it. Single coil and Humbuckers; it doesn't matter, they all sound fantastic.
The FX loop doesn't add noise and has an option to remove it from the path (Always a win). It takes modulation effects similarly fantastically.

I prefer Voice 1 as its more of a "Fender Black Panel" esque sound. The other 2 voicings are nothing to sneeze at either.
I have switched to using the reverb from the amp instead of the pedals because of the "Dwell" feature.
The only "Complaint" (I say that with all the sarcasm intended) is that I wish there was a footswitch to adjust the Mid Kick on the fly.
Other than that, near perfect amp. This will be my life amp.

Huge thanks to Alberto. Highly recommend his expertise as he recommended this to me.
