Doesn't do much

By Chris from Atlanta

I read a lot of great reviews of this Jazzlab deflector so you might like to try it for yourself but I adjusted it up slowly while playing a note per the instructions and I did hear the sound get slightly louder when it is angled in the correct/best position but nothing even close to playing against a wall. The sound simply wasn't changed enough to make a difference for me.

Does what it claims...simple and easy to use

By Michael C. from Iowa
Music Background: Tenor sax, piano, amateur producer

I play tenor sax. This device easily attaches to the bell of my horn and is pretty efficient about reflecting the sound up at my ears so I can hear my timbre and tone when I practice. It swivels towards and away from the bell, so I can quickly A/B test with and without and the difference is very audible.

I bought this so I would no longer feel compelled to stand facing a wall to hear what I sound like in my practice studio. It does that. I can sit at my desk or stand in the middle of the room, and hear myself play with the direct sound of my real tone going to my ears. This makes it a lot easier to work on phrasing, articulation, and tuning.

CONS:
It's a little expensive for basically just a plastic disk. You do get some reflectors that work with trumpet and trombone too. However, there is only one bell "clip" or adapter. If they included 2 clips, you could buy this item and share the trumpet reflector with your trumpet-playing friend.

Another drawback is that it, in my opinion, it just doesn't look cool. It's great for practice but I would not take it to a gig where I was on stage.
