DW Anywhere Practice Pad Set

By Dave C. from Florida
Music Background: Over 50 years experience as a freelance player in a wide variety of styles from orchestral to top 40 cover bands, shows, jazz trios to big band.

Having never seen the need for a practice pad set, I find myself in a situation where I really need one. After looking over the sets available I took a shot on this one. I am more than pleased with it. Simple to set up highly adjustable with a couple of clever design features. The hardware is first class as I've come to expect from DW. When set up, adjusted and all fittings properly tightened, there is no buzzing or rattling. Everything stays where it belongs. The bass drum pedal mounting plate is well designed to accommodate any pedal you can think of and the use of a double pedal is no problem.
A good solid product!

Very nice practice set up.

By Patrick
Music Background: Former drummer, just getting back into the saddle.

I got this DW practice pad set to work on my double bass technique. It was well worth it. I can sit down at night and just blast on it, without bothering anyone else in the house. It is infinitely adjustable, well built and sturdy.

Bass drum strike pad needs work

By Sweetwater Customer

The idea behind this product is logical. Upon arrival of product and after set up, I opted for adding another pad for a snare drum so as to give me 2 cymbal pads and 2 toms. This imitates my jazz kit. The larger pad I added for my snare drum allowed me to practice brush strokes, as well as matching my jazz kit configuration.
The complaint I have is with the feel of the bass drum pad. The pad is a small rectangular pad that has a white 1/8" gum rubber cover over a 1/4" foam rubber piece behind it. This pad is way too stiff and non absorbent! It feels like you are playing against a piece of hardwood. They should have made the foam rubber at least 1/2" thick or maybe even thicker. I ordered a soft stroke bass pedal beater online that resembles a tennis ball to try to help, and it did, but not enough to match the feel of a real bass drum at all. Also, the bass drum pad sits too far back from the edge of the triangle bass pedal attachment piece. The beater hits the pad at an impact point that is greater than a 90 degree angle. This is frustrating because the pedal travels down far enough to actually strike the wing nut that is used to attach the pedal to the mount. If they had used thicker foam padding on the pad block this might have addressed this issue. I might have to grind the triangle pedal mount down a 1/4" to fix this issue.
I really hope the design engineers read this review and make the changes to address this bass pad issue. I have to remove 2 stars for these 2 issues. I might have to purchase a separate bass drum pad from another manufacturer. I will be looking for a piece of foam rubber to glue on top of this pad otherwise.

Best portable multi-pad w/stand, very durable. Rubber pads do get dirty, so keep that in mind.

Great practice set !

By Doug from Cleveland
Music Background: Cover band drummer

high-quality DW drum practice pad for the price. The stand is pretty sturdy and assembly was quick and easy. The practice surface is made of a very durable material but of course without compromising the feeling while practicing. If you're a drummer, this is a great practice pad to get, especially if you have neighbors or roommates.

This practice pad kit is perfect for my current practice situation. It"s quiet enough so that you can practice without disturbing your neighbors or other people in the house.
I"ve set up my hardware along with practice cymbals to make it as close to my usual set up and it"s working out well.

Had fun setting it up and found no complete instruction, but got it together! putting on the pads was an after thought. should put them on before putting on the arms.
they are great to play on and can really give you the workout you need to stay in shape.

Very sturdy and don't take up a lot of space.

Great for getting your limbs moving and practicing. The instructions are a bit vague, but you can figure most of it out on your own. Awesome for close quarters, fits great in my dorm room.

Drum Pad Set

By Ivan’s M.
Music Background: Percussion

My 8 year old is just starting drum set lessons. I was a drummer all through school and his passion for music was enhanced when he first got behind those drums.
Our little house is not yet set up for a full kit. So when I saw this pad kit on your website for the price, it felt like a steal!
He was so happy to walk in and see it all set up and ready to use. And I"ve been hitting it every now and then myself.
Purchased the kick drum pedal so it would feel like the real thing. Just awesome.

DW practice pads.

By Bill L. from Clinton Twsp., Mich,
Music Background: Just someone who wants to bang on the drums all day.

Just what I expected & more. Got back into drumming after a 50 year hiatus. Wanted something that simulated a kit of drums. This is as close as one can get. Really helps with relearning the rudiments. One can remember drumming but the muscle memory is long gone. So the old adage applies practice, practice & practice. Let's not forget the service it was freindly & knowledgeable all questions & concerns were answered. Delivery was spot on did not have to wait long for the product to arrive.

Perfect for me!

By Tia J. from Virginia

I bought 2 to replicate, as closely as I could, the set-up i play on my acoustic set and oh my lanta does it get the job done seeing as how I live where I can't practice on the real thing. I mainly work on grooving into and out of different fills and combinations. I love it. Such a great product.

Apartment Shmartment

By Sweetwater Customer

Apartment living gets in the way of laying into some drums. This practice set has been a good way of getting back into it and they've worked great so far. Quiet enough to not annoy my neighbors but a good responsive feel that can keep me sharp while my real drums are packed away. I would recommend this practice set to anyone who can't help drumming but needs to produce a little less noise.

Only downside so far - they aren't real drums.

Acceptable

By JAG from Charleston, SC
Music Background: A decade of drumming experience, still an amateur.

I've had this for about a month now and I'm playing it in an apartment on high pile carpet. The stand is moderately sturdy in and of itself, but extending the arms to their longest point and using it on the carpet makes it wobbly. The arms really aren't long enough to put the pads in a realistic position for the floor tom. All the other positions are pretty accurate. The pads are kind of loud. I made this purchase because a full kit would be too loud and I lack the space. It solved the space issue, but I've had to tie little hand towels around the pads to reduce the noise. The bass pad was the loudest but I stopped using it all together and just set up another bass practice pad (which I still had to dampen). As a last touch of frustration, the 90 degree bend in the extension arms was about 100 degrees in the shortest arm. I still use it, but it significantly limited the positions in which I could position it.
Overall, I'm grateful to have it and I'd probably buy it again (on account of very few alternatives) but the quality could be pushed up without a large price increase.

Needs improvement, but still does the job.

By Jordan from Isanti, MN
Music Background: Hobbyist

Like most other people have said, the rods tend to come loose, and the kick pad is really bouncy.

The remedy:
The rods come loose if you hand tighten, but I found that if you tighten the hex key screw using the hex key and some pliers for leverage, they will hold.

The kick pad just needs some jury rigging to get rid of the bounce. Some duck tape and a small towel seems to work pretty well at reducing bounce.

My Pearl eliminator double pedal fits well and stays on the pad. The bass pad stays in place and doesn't shift. Good when working the double bass for extended periods.

Overall, I think it's about $60 over priced. They could have made a better tightening system for pad arms and a slightly thicker kick plate for the kick pedal to clamp on to. (My cheaper single pedals don't clamp on too well.)

BOTTOM LINE: when the adjustments are made and you lock the arms in place with pliers, the kit does it's job. It keeps me moving when I can't play the real kit.

Great practice tool

By Chris L. from Dalton, Ma
Music Background: Guitarist, musician.

For someone as myself who has just started learning drums, it's affordable, compact, economical on space and the wallet, and most importantly a great way to maximize available practice time. For myself living in an apartment complex doesn't bode well for a full kit, but with these practice pads, I can go to lessons with new found confidence that I am able to study and progress each week without having my own kit.

One minor detail was one of the pads was broken out of the box, but sweetwater and DW worked quickly to provide me with a replacement, great effort guys!

My drum teacher also owns this and we swear by it. Response to ghost notes and roles is exceptional.
