DW DWCP6300UL 6000 Series Ultralight Retro Snare Stand - Flush-base Reviews

6000 Series Snare Drum Stand with Retro-styled, Flush-base Hardware

The scaled-down DW Ultralight snare stand sports retro-styled, flush-base hardware, a smaller diameter, lighter gauge steel tubing, and a low-mass tube joint, making it extremely lightweight and portable. This stand's Glide Tilter yields precise adjustment of your snare drum's angle. The Ultralight melds an old school snare basket with a modern, spring-loaded design, giving you the best of both worlds. The drummers at Sweetwater have used the DW Ultralight snare stand for bop kits and vintage drum sets, both in the studio and onstage.

DW 6000 Ultralight Stands

By Mark W. from Melbourne, FL
Music Background: Been drumming since 1980, and playing guitar and bass since 1994. Been church drumming since 1997.

I love these stands! Light, simple straight retro style, universal adjustment for any angle, and stackable legs! Everything I want! I play a small kit, and like things tight. I've moved from double-braced, chunky, heavy stands to these and have had no issues with stability. I don't play "hard", but I do play "full". I keep my cymbals pretty flat, so maybe that helps with the stability. I started with the combo set of 2 straight stands, a snare stand, and a hi-hat stand. I liked them so much that I added another straight stand (for a 2nd crash) and another snare stand (for a 12-inch tom). Then I sold ALL my other stands! I'm all in! I like the stackable legs because I can run 2 stands close together if needed, having 1 with legs very low/flat along the floor, and the next one slightly elevated so it can go over the low one. I also like that you don't have to crank down the wing nuts; these hold very well without having to so do. Thanks, DW, for finally lightening my gig bag!

Great stand for rack tom

By Richard A. from Surprise, AZ

Received and used it the first night at a gig. Light but solid and high enough to go with my 24" kit.

Lightweight and clever design

By Lou from Connecticut

This is a nice, sturdy lightweight snare drum stand and has a great feature: one of the three support arms is spring loaded to ensure that the snare remains firmly in place.

By Ronnie from So Cal
Music Background: Retired Pro

I bought the ultralight cymbal sat and and loved it so I bought the matching snare stand one more cymbal stand and the UL hi hat stand. These stands are beautiful and very well made. So much easier on the back. I love them.

It's too lightweight!

By Sweetwater Customer from NYC

Sure, you can lift it with a pinky, but it kind of dances all over the stage. If you play aggressively, or use your elbow for pitch change, you won't be very happy. The ultra lightweight memory lock broke after a few weeks. And it is the old style basket, so it doesn't work for 10" drums. But for a low key soft playing situation with a 14" or 13" snare, it's perfect. Also, great as a back up stand to leave in the car...

DW UL Series Flat snare stand

By Paulom M. from Broooklyn, NY
Music Background: Drummer / Rhythm Arts Educator

DW UL Series hardware (purchased Hihat stand, cymbal stand and snare stand) - is the lightest among the flat stands/light weight stand offerings by other brands (Ludwig, TAMA, Canopus, Sakae, Pearl)

Love the snare stand. Did notice that the folding of the 3-arms does gets loose on frequent use, but tighten it again using the alan key and its good again.

Love the toothless/infinite tilter adjustment. The best part is the spring loaded snare basket arm. Does not choke the snare drum but hugs the snare enough to let it breathe and vibrate.
Note: if you are a drummer that likes to tighten the key as if your tightening a plumbing pipe joint or structural bolts - these stands are not for you.

Sweetwater customer service is the best. Thank you guys!

Snare stand limitations

By Jeff G. from Springfield, MO
Music Background: amateur, weekend player

I have been using the Ultra Lite DW cymbal stands and the snare stand for over a year and I am a weekender, so I use them regularly. I play jazz and light rock. Being 62 years of age, I was drawn to them because of their light weight. I am totally satisfied with the cymbal stands but not as happy with the snare stand. First, the base of the stand is smaller than the cymbal base. Probably makes getting it between the bass drum pedal and the hihat pedal easier for small framed/short legged drummers, but it makes the stand "wobbly" for me. I play a standard size snare and use traditional grip. I also tilt the snare at a pretty good angle, so the center of gravity is not right over the center of the stand. I bought an extra cymbal stand, used that base, and it make the drum much more stable. Secondly, like the early snare stands, this stand isn't designed for anything but a 14 inch snare drum The arms of the snare stand lock in place and can't be adjusted to other drum sizes, such as supporting an 8x12 tom or a second snare drum that was smaller. I think DW products in general are super. I just think this one could be improved with a wider base, like that of the cymbal stand.

The Gem of the UL series

By GCH from Washington DC
Music Background: Gig regularly

A solution for someone playing jazz or lighter music who has to lug their own gear. This stand is much lighter than the Sakae light weight snare basket was using. It's got all of the best features of light weight snare baskets of decades ago with none of the weaknesses. The two snap-in-place arms and spring-load arm are genius. They making mounting/dismounting the snare drum faster than the turn-nut systems. Because of the design and shape of the hands (the part that grabs the drum), there is little pressure on the drum, so it does not choke resonance, but the stand and drum can be picked up by the drum without the stand dropping off (makes it easy to preposition). Deduct a fraction of a star for a design oversight (and a suggestion). There should be hash mark on the sliding tilter that shows where "flat" is.

Simple with Vintage Looks

By Clint S. from Albany, IL
Music Background: Semi Pro

I'm a bass player who was looking to update the hardware on my jam room/rehearsal drum kit that I keep for friends, other drummers, and for me to just goof around on. I bought (3) of the 6000 ultra light cymbal stands, the 6000 snare stand, and the 6000 ultra light hi hat stand because I wanted vintage looks and wanted hardware that was simple to operate and reasonably priced. Overall, these pieces fit the bill and are exactly what I was looking for. I grew up around lightweight vintage hardware, and these function very similarly, but with modern build and engineering. The snare stand is excellent, and is nice modern update on a classic Slingerland/Ludwig style. The Hi Hat stand is no frills, but it does the job- and the tension adjustment works just fine. The hat stand did feel a bit wobbly - but extending the carpet screws has helped stabilize it. The cymbal stands are nice, and they look very classy. I particularly like the adjustment on the cymbal tilt. *Note - the ones I received are the updated version - the one pictured on the Sweetwater site are the older version. But the tilt is very well engineered and it looks great. Also the aluminum feet/legs on all these are very sturdy and have more 'heft' to them than I thought they would. The upright tubes on all are very light and can feel a bit "flimsy" - but once everything is tightened down and secured they work just fine. Above all else - everything is SUPER lightweight. Why any drummer would want to lug a case full of old double braced stands or super oversized hardware is beyond me. Overall, all of these components look great, and function just like the simple hardware stands from the old days. Are they better than the cheap Percussion Plus stands that I am replacing? No, probably not. The hat stand is a vast improvement, but the rest of the stands are - well - just stands. They do the job. But with these 6000's, you're paying for the DW name, vintage looks, light weight, and DW support.
