The Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium Edition headphones are an outstanding choice for extended listening sessions, monitoring while recording drums or amplified instruments, or for general-purpose stereo listening! The DT 880 Premium Edition headphones' semi-open design gives you the strengths of both open and closed headphones. You'll have just enough "air" when tracking instruments while still having the isolation you want when using open microphones. What's more, you'll find that the lushly padded headband makes the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium Edition headphones extra-comfortable for extended use. The Premium Edition headphones also feature cosmetic upgrades to the earcups and yoke which help them fit into any modern setup.

They Sound Like the Room!
I searched for years for headphones that would work for me when I'm tracking vocals in the studio. Conventional wisdom dictates using closed-back phones to prevent sound leaking into the microphone, but for some singers (including me), the occlusion (blocking) of the ear can result in perceived pitch distortion, making accurate singing nearly impossible.
So I tried several semi-open back cans with better results, but none of them ever sounded quite right.
This time around, I did a lot of research online, and everything pointed to these DT 880s. So I bought them. They sound amazing. They're unhyped and natural. When I lift a can away from my ear, I don't hear the perceived pitch drop that I experienced with other phones. They don't sound like headphones; they sound like the room--which is remarkable.
And I hear almost no bleed onto the recorded vocal tracks. I think any cardioid mic should be fine with these phones.
Perfect for everything
I researched open and semi-open headphones for weeks before settling on these, and I couldn't be happier. In typical Beyerdynamic fashion, they are so comfortable to wear, and the semi-open backing allows air and just the right amount of outside sound in. I could wear these for hours, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for open or semi-open headphones.
Real nice phones!
These are really comfortable. The sound is pretty balanced across the frequency spectrum. (Nothing is perfect). The semi-open design allows listening for a longer time without the "pressure" feel you can get from some closed back headphones. I own several pairs of headphones, by Grado, Focal, Marley, Tascam and Sony. These are as good, mostly better than any of them, at a real decent price point.
Highly recommended.
If you record with these you have to be a bit careful as to any bleed into a mic.track. I use mine for listening reference.
Luxurious comfort
Putting these on feels like putting on your favorite sweater on a chilly day. Sweaty ears are a thing of the past, and the sound is full, rich, and accurate. I use these for mixing as well as guitar practice with a modeler. Very pleased.
The Best
These are just outstanding. Perfect for monitoring the multitrack recording process. My second pair. 1 for the road and 1 at home...
Great headphones
The Phones worked out just like your advisor said they would. Thanks for the advice and recommendation
Exceptional sound quality
These headphones sound great! My mixes were noticeably better the first week I used the DT880's. And have improved greatly now that I am familiar with them. A big thank you to Matt and the Sweetwater staff for their help in the selection process.
Great sound, light weight, so comfortable!
I've had these DT880 Premium 250 ohms for a couple weeks now and so far I am very impressed with them. I'm primarily using them for mixing and critical listening with Presonus Studio One 5 pro DAW and an older (2013) Presonus AudioBox USB interface. The headphones are connected directly to the AudioBox headphone out jack. This is my first experience with Beyerdynamic and the sound does not disappoint! Very clean with good highs and mids and a nice, solid bass response. They are light weight and extremely comfortable. I sometimes forget I have them on! I wear hearing aids and the ear cups are large enough to fit over the hearing aids comfortably. For mixing purposes I'm also using Wave Audio's NX Virtual Mix Room analog plugin on the main bus to give an in-studio sound while using the headphones to mix. Thanks to Garrhett Kidd at Sweetwater for helping me choose these! I highly recommend these head phones and Garrhett!
Good dependable, durable
I bought a pair of DT 770 back some years ago, that I use for recording and mixing. I came to the conclusion that my ear pressure was getting to me. The closed back headphones made my ears less sensitive after a couple of hours. So I tried the semi open DT 880's .I now have no issues with recording time, and I can hear just as well before recording, and after.
The only reason I didn't give it a five is the straight cord. I stand when I mix and record, and I end up stepping on the darn thing. Wish I could replace with a coiled cord.
I do not get the hype
Side by side our ATHm50x's have much better clarity for mixing. These cans always go to non-engineer staff lol. Who always say WOW SO COMFY!! And theyre right, that is certainly the high-point for this product. These sound cramped and bass-swollen. Muddy. Worse is very slow-sounding transient response.
On to the next try!
