My 1st real set of headphones

By Patrick Askey from Yorkville, IL on April 9, 2024 Music Background: hobby

I have a lot of headphones, but nothing like these. Not only do they sound nice, but they're very comfortable and well made ! I've only had them for a few weeks so far, but you can tell as soon as you put them on that they're worth every penny. There's a reason they have so many 5 star reviews on Sweetwater ! These headphones sound really clear. I use them for playing guitar when I need to be quiet late at night. I couldn't be happier with this product ! I wouldn't have known about them if Cory Medina didn't tell recommend them. I don't 2nd guess his opinion on any of my purchases from Sweetwater. If you don't have anybody as your sales engineer and looking for the best product advice, I would call him.

wonderful choice. exactly what I needed.
Mike Soper is such a wonderful Sales Engineer - always responsive and available, knowledgeable, caring for my needs, always in a great disposition.

Great cans

If you're on the fence, just get them. These sound great, and extremely clear. They're super comfortable, and seem to be well made.

My Go To

By Jerry M from Anaheim CA on March 11, 2024 Music Background: Songwriter, Producer, Performer

I use these every day in my writing room/project studio. They sound great, are super comfortable and hold up really well.
Replacement head bands and ear pads are readily available when you wear them out from constant usage, and I can't tell you how many times I have run over the cable with my studio chair but they just keep going like the Energizer Bunny.

Super comfy, good sound

By Dez from NH on March 6, 2024 Music Background: Non professional

The first thing I noticed is just how comfortable they are to wear. They are like clouds on your ears. There is a lot of room in them as well so they don't feel like your ears are cramped. I don't think the sound profile is flat as they seem to like deep lows and maybe scoop some low mids but I may be wrong. Anyway, I am happy I bought them.

Great for the large/sensitive eared

By Joey on February 9, 2024

My issue with most headphones is that they press on the outer ear and hurt after a short while. These have giant ear cups which fully surround your ears and are very comfortable. Might look a little goofy to some since they're so big but it's worth it. Sound quality is great. Not outstanding, but certainly very good and reasonable for the price. 80 ohms is slightly high so you might have to crank the volume a little on laptops/phones and stuff but I haven't found that to be a big issue yet. Overall great.

Great headphones

These headphones are great! I would recommend.

Private practice

By Sweetwater Customer on January 23, 2024

After turning down the amps output (G-K Backline 112) these headphones sound just like the speaker. I also used a spare cable from a 5.1 surround to connect from the computers 5.1 speaker to the Mix port of the amp to do play over at the same time.

Awesome Headphones and Customer Service!

Great

By Alexander Mosqueda on December 20, 2023 Music Background: New passion projector . ex artist manager

I'm in a space that monitors are just not worth it at the moment.! So I chose to go with dt 770 pros 80omh, using them more so for production and recording. The closed back keeps the outside noise out pretty well. They sound amazing. Great sound stage for recording. Done some mixing with these and no complaints. I'm new to all this though.

Very nice

By Jason from Maryland on December 18, 2023

I was using Sennheiser 280s for years and decided to give these a try, and I am very pleased with how they sound and how comfortable these headphones are.

Great phones

By ANTHONY BROWN from TRAVERSE CITY, MI on December 13, 2023

I love my dt990s and was looking for something closed back forr using in public or in bed without too much sound bleeding in or out. I was hoping these would be basically the same as the 990s in terms of comfort and sound quality and yep they are. The 80ohm is perfect for "normal" sound sources. I have to crank the volume up to drive my 990s as expected for 250ohm phones but I don't have any problems getting a good level with these hooking up to just about anything.

Great things

Bass player's and video editor's dream

By Jeff Chase from Chester County, PA on October 19, 2023 Music Background: bassist, guitar player, songwriter

As you've likely seen in other rieviews, there are great sounding, incredibly comfortable headphones, and while they aren't "bassy" they really excel at capturing a hearty bass - so punchy with mids. I like tracking with them and editing with them, and for this price point there isn't much that can touch them? A drummer friend (who has tracked alot with many headphones over the years) recommended them. He was really spot-on.

Great head phones

By Brandon from New Orleans, Louisiana on September 15, 2023

These are seriously comfortable, and have excellent sound quality. I would strongly recommend.

Why I am buying the same headphones again.

By Ronald Ray from Joplin, MO on August 31, 2023 Music Background: Video editor & live recording for Ron Ray from the heart insight productions

Super comfortable after editing recording all day. I can't recall if this is my second or third pair Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80.
My last pair became useless when the roller on my chair rolled over the cord too many times. Sweetwater does not replace cords in-house. The cost for shipping, a replacement cord and labor made buying another pair of headphones more sensible. I had found an inexpensive set of replacement ear cushions exactly the same as the originals and bought a new cord with the money I saved. I had no idea how tiny the wires are in the cord. It will take someone more professional at soldering than me. No wonder rolling over them was all it took to make them useless. That won't happen again.

Terrific Headphones for Recording, Mixing, and Mastering.

By Clay from Utah on July 25, 2023 Music Background: Drummer, vocals back in the day, and now Music Producer

I've tried many, many other headphones at all price points. The Beyerdynamic T1 is my first choice for any cans under the $ price point. The DT 770, is my choice for every day, all day use at the under $ price point. Basically, as far as I am concerned, they know their job and do it better than most others even at higher price points. The DT 770 is not the most expensive phones I have, but they are the most used by far out of everting ease I have available. The T1 and the DT 770 will always have a place in my studio. They are very non-fatiging, and don't cause headaches from the band being too tight, or their weight. The earcups are very nice fitting and stay in place without being too tight. But of all, it is the well defined, crystal clear and flat sound that is why I have multiples of these headphones. Talent I have recorded vocals and acoustic guitar from, tend to gravitate toward these over several other brands at the same price and some higher price points. Thousands of music producers at all levels are using these cans. You can't go wrong with these for their performance at and above their price point at a fraction of what some others' cost.

The DT 770 Pro 80 are comfortable. The sound quality is excellent. You can hear everything very clearly. If you are using it for a podcast or studio recording it's perfect just for those needs.

Amazing!

By Joshua Simonson from JAMESTOWN, CA on March 27, 2023

I'm no "audiophile" so take my review with a grain of salt, but these are really great for everyday use! I keep getting spooked by all the sounds that in my previous headphones felt "flat", the stereo spectrum is amazing, i keep getting spooked whenever there is something like an explosion or lightning happening in a video or a piece of music.

Amazing sound and comfort!

I just want to thank Brad and Damon for always giving the best service, recommendations, and advice. I am very grateful for them!

Comfortable and Great Sound

By Sweetwater Customer on December 14, 2022

I asked Sweetwater for a recommendation since I was replacing older headphones for multitrack recording that were making my ears hot. Ben suggested these as the best price/value for my level of recording. They are comfortable with a great sound as advertised. Thank you, Ben!

Excellent for bass players!

By Jim A. from Greenville, TX on September 8, 2022 Music Background: Bass for 20 years, Keys for 24 years, music major and custom speaker builder

tl;dr If you're a bass player and you're looking for a solid headphone at a price that won't knock you off your seat, stop what you're doing and submit the order for these.

When my church went to IEMs, I tried out the Shure SE215. While I loved the slim profile of an IEM, the sound was as underwhelming as could be. I don't have the budget for $800 IEMs, and frankly there's no replacement for displacement, so I decided to go to cans. My criteria was keep it under $200 and have a straight cord. After some digging on the TalkBass forums and other places, I found that the DT 770s had quite a few recommendations in numerous threads from a wide variety of people, so I figured what the heck, let's go for it.

The build quality is pretty good. I run a Line 6 Helix Floor and always store these in the front pocket of the Helix backpack. They don't see a lot of abuse, since they're usually tucked away, but I can say they're not a poor quality headphone that easily falls apart. A good bit of the headband is metal, so you're not dealing with plastic junk. Also, I like how the 1/4" adapter has some threading to ensure a rock-solid connection and keep the 1/8 end from getting damaged accidentally. I'm clumsy and occasionally oafish, so I need all the help I can get to not break things.

Tonally, I feel like they're relatively flat and smooth. I hate scooped headphones that have bloated bass and ear-piercing highs (e.g. Beats). I think they're neutral, but by no means anemic in the low end. My bass comes through strong. FWIW, I most often use them through the Behringer P16-M. I have no problems getting satisfying volumes with the P16-M and the 80-ohm 770s. My Helix's headphone amp has quite a bit more power, and would do well with the 250-ohm version. My choir director let me borrow a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 PROs prior to my purchase, and I greatly prefer the sound of the 770. It's just plain and simple more natural (and doesn't have that darned coiled cord!)

They're comfortable to wear, and I've got no problem keeping them on for hours at a time during rehearsals or when I'm gaming on my laptop.

If I needed to purchase a new set of headphones tomorrow, I'd buy them again.

Worth It!

By Tommy Trenton from Polk City, FL on August 24, 2022

Great headphones for the price! Very comfy long term, the sound is nice, the look is nice as well, the only complaint I have is the cable isn't replaceable : / but it's ok I still love them and would buy another pair if I had to. I'm going to get the open-back version for less ear fatigue, (Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X Open-back) Open back is best for mixing over closed-back. I had a pair of open back mixing headphones but my **** parrot flew them outside and I found them hanging in a tree where I cant get to them shaking my head . . .

My favorite tracking headphones

By Rob Veith from BELLINGHAM, WA on June 14, 2022

I've had these for nearly a year now. I use them for tracking recordings, certain stages of the editing/mixing process, and for monitoring live presentations being streamed to the internet. In terms of sound quality, I find them on par with some of the best headphones I've used. Mixes made with these seem to translate well to other speakers. I especially like them for tracking. They're really comfortable and have great isolation.

Absolutely Phenominal

By Shelby Jones from Wagoner, OK on June 11, 2022 Music Background: 10 years of electronic music production

These headphones are just about flawless. Incredible sound, they work wonders for both creating and mixing, and they're extremely comfortable.

Excellent!

By Danielle S. on June 8, 2022

I bought these for my husband who is a drummer and who wanted to record but needed a good mid-priced pair of headphones. He said they are excellent! Sound quality is great, noise cancelling is great and they fit comfortably. Plus, they arrived in two days from the order and Sweetwater always checks in to make sure everything goes okay with your order. Great customer service!

Perfect for Mixing in the Home Studio

By Christina on May 25, 2022

Sweetwater recommended this pair of headphones as a budget mixing headphone that I could be happy with even as my career advanced - and it has certainly delivered so far! These headphones are comfortable, have great clarity, and muffle the perfect amount of outside sound for my situation. I can hear if someone knocks on the door to my home studio, but other sounds don't interfere with the mixing process. (I live in a relatively quiet neighborhood and home, so the sounds I deal with are things like conversation, occasionally the tv, and lawnmowers outside the window by my desk.)

I'm still working on mixing my first album, but I'm getting great feedback so far!

GREAT headphones!

By Brian from Noblesville, IN on May 12, 2022

I purchased these after trying several pairs in person at Sweetwater. These are incredibly comfortable and made with sturdy materials. The sound quality is excellent. I needed something that would handle all of my music listening needs, plus work well with my Line 6 Helix for quiet jam sessions. I couldn't be more happy with these.

Great fit & super comfortable

By Julie Beck from Long Beach on April 28, 2022 Music Background: Female frontman for rock and motown band: Hurricane Julie & The Aftermath

After using a pair of inexpensive headphones for the last year I feel like I discovered a big secret now. These DT 770 80ohm's are ridiculously comfortable to wear for long sessions and I will recommend them to those voiceover artists who need great sound and good fit. No pinching along the jawline - they fit good on my small head :)

Great sound in and out of the VO Booth

By Sweetwater Customer on April 9, 2022

I use these inside the VO booth and outside for play back. There is no sound bleed in the booth and the clarity for editing/cleaning up those mouth clicks etc is great (a little too good if you know what I mean!)

Comfortable and clear

By Aaron H from Upstate NY on February 26, 2022 Music Background: DJ (vinyl)

I've got pretty bad tinnitus so I need a pair of headphones that will give me a clear signal that I can use when beatmatching. These have worked great. I even tried them while wearing earplugs and was still able to get the volume and clarity I needed.

They're a little bulkier than other cans (larger than, say, Bose, and definitely larger than any over-ear headphones). They feel like the retro cans your dad maybe had on his Hi-Fi. They sound _great_ though.

Great Headphones!

Headphones are Awesome!

By Jeff VanHoy from PORTLAND, OR on January 28, 2022

These headphones are fantastic! I wear glasses and have been wanting headphones that would be comfortable and I found them. Actually, Nate Hutson recommended them and that was enough for me! He is fantastic and I appreciate his great recommendations. He always has the answer, especially lately in helping me outfit my studio. His help is appreciated and these headphones are the best. Don't look any further, these are the answer. Sound and fit great!!

Also recommended them to my friend who also really likes them.

Great for tracking!

By Blake Worthington from Chattanooga, TN on January 14, 2022

Super comfortable and accurate headphones. I use them for tracking vocals and guitars and have had great results.

Excellent bang for buck

By CJ F from Northern CA on January 12, 2022 Music Background: Audio editor/producer

These are wonderful headphones. Very comfortable and very clear. The highs are crispy and present, the lows are controlled and honest. I wouldn't use these as "recording" headphones for a drummer or an aggressive vocalist, as I wouldn't want to burn the drivers out - but definitely great headphones for DI recording, mixing, and deep-listening for sound design. All that to say, I'm sure they would handle the SPL of a loud recording environment, but you will really notice the clarity on more sonically-delicate applications.

Never going back to IEMs

By Ronnie on October 21, 2021

I bought these because I was tired of using IEMs. I loved the sound they had but grew to be uncomfortable after a while and the ear pieces kept falling off. I cracked and decided to buy these and LEMME TELL YOU...the difference in audio quality is night and day. I record vocals, stream, make videos, mix vocals, etc. and it makes everything so much more clear. The DT770 80ohm headphones don't need an amp. I use an Audient ID4 MK1 audio interface and they work like a charm. Extremely durable and feel solid. The cable is really nice and hefty. THE ONLY CON is that the chord isn't replaceable. But tbh if you take care of these things, you'll have a perfect pair of headphones for the next 10+ years.

Beyerdynamic or just go home

By Ira Wolf from Philadelphia on October 3, 2021 Music Background: Radio, Voiceover, Production, Producer

Being an on air Disc Jockey for more than 25 years. My first pair of "cans" were recommended by my Radio station Engineer…The DT 150's. Amazing sound and many coworkers often asked to borrow them. I've seen many rookies come through the studio doors with brand new Sony "Professional" headphones that left myself and my station Engineer laughing over my entire career.
The impedance, the coloring, and poor build quality of other headphones like those just validated most listeners including radio professionals who demonstrated their ignorance and reaction to marketing.

Beyerdynamic needs no marketing.
Do a very small dive into frequency response, coloration, Ohms, and the clear winner has always been Beyerdynamic!
I love my DT-770's and try to take them from my "cold dead hands"
The BEST!

Great for Nord Stage 3

By Sunny Sundquist from Port Clinton, OH on September 21, 2021 Music Background: 50 yrs playing keyboards

After reading a review on another site, I chose the 80 ohm set for my Stage 3 HP76. Cheaper headphones were too loud compared to the speaker volume, but these 80 ohms were a good balance when using outside speakers at the same time. (The Nord has separate out-puts, so plugging the phones in doesn't mute sound.) Joel was helpful when my shipment got delayed by FedEx. And lastly, I appreciate the 9' cord that came with these headphones, that don't get in the way while actually playing the keyboard.

Best Sounding Headphones I Own

By Robert from Edmond, OK on September 20, 2021

They are everything they claim to be. The comfort level is great, the noise isolation is excellent, and the low frequency response makes an audible difference when you hear the toms on a drum fill. I listened to three of my own songs that I've been mixing for a very long time (I'm a rank amateur on mixing) and I was stunned at the sound. I can't imagine you'd be unhappy with these.

On another note, the shipping crew at Sweetwater does a stellar job. My package was as bullet-proof as you could ever dream of. They set a standard that no one else can match.

Very Pleased

I love these!

By abigail mcelroy from McKinney, TX on August 14, 2021

I had a pair of Bose headphones. Somehow in my sleep I managed to roll over them and the cord came loose. I'm looking around forever trying to find the screw that goes to it, plus where is the grey cover that matches the other side? Found the screw. Remembered, I was vacuuming and I don't want my cat to eat this what did this go to? I pitched it. Find out later, it was the cover for the right earphone screw that held the cable in place . I don't mean the cord that you plug in. This is part of the internals that go to the earphone. Called Bose. They only create wifi headphones now. But my amps are from the 80's and 90's. I need something that will plug in! Knowing where I usually buy my guitar strings I took a whirl. Omg! The sound is incredible. Even led zeppelin on YouTube, hey Jimmy, if you ever decide to dump that girlfriend , I am love. People these are awesome headphones. You won't regret my opinion. I wish and hope they'll make more in the future as the sound to my ears is fantastic. Much love, Abi

Best headphones I've had so far!

By Jada from USA on July 20, 2021 Music Background: Producer and studio engineer

These are really great. Very comfortable, good quality, good stereo sound. Coming from the AT M-50s It took bit of getting used to. These are super flat and won't hide any mixing mistakes. You'll be re-mixing your songs because the headphones will rumble with bass telling you that it's way too loud and imbalanced. Very happy with these and so worth the money. Note though that if you buy these chances are you'll need a headphone amp. I use these with the Behringer Micro Amp and I couldn't be happier.

Awesome headphones!

Awesome Studio Headphones

By Rick from Massachusetts on January 8, 2021 Music Background: Sound engineer since 1977

I bought these headphones for my home studio and I have to say that they are quite amazing. The first that you notice is comfortable they are. They are very quiet and they seal very good over your ears. The sound is incredible. The frequency response is very flat. I only wish that it had a replaceable cable. I would recommend these to anyone who has a home studio or even a professional studio.

Late to the fadom

By Sweetwater Customer on December 28, 2020

I have literally lost count of how many headphones I've tried bought or used. So many headphones. That isn't some sort of flex either. If anything it's admitting that it has been really difficult to find THE right set of cans. And that I've at times been almost frenetic about trying to find the right pair of sonic glass slippers.

Cool story so the 770's are the one?

Well. I like them. A lot. They are great in a lot of ways. And I have zero hesitation recommending them. But for me they still could be better. Mostly in fit and feel.

Sonically? Man. I REALLY like this kid. Everything sounds good to me and nothing really sounds unbalanced. If anything these probably create unrealistic expectations for what most other people hear.

Construction seems very solid too. They appear to be durable though I think usage and time pretty much determine if that is the case.

Comfort. Fit. Feel. This is where it gets a little shaky. For me. The pads are comfortable. I do like those. I'd say the main gripe I have is that these are a little clampy on my head. I mean they definitely do not slip or fall off which is good. But yeah. I get a bit more of that clamped pressure than I'd like. And I've tried a few different things to condition them to relax a bit but so far they always go back to the clamp.

So why would you keep them if they don't feel that great? And how can you endorse them so highly with that complaint?

Well for starters this is my use case. It isn't necessarily a given that everyone else will have the same issue. Second is that it is definitely not the worst fitting pair I've owned. Third and I know this will probably seem weird but anyway. Third is that it ends up reminding me to take breaks when I'm listening and working tracks. I like the idea of being able to stay lost in my headphones for hours and hours but really I'm probably better off taking breaks off and on through the session. As such I have no problems recommending the 770's.

Btw there are plenty of way more expert and experienced people out there who can speak to all the various technical attributes of these headphones. I will happily let them do that and do it way better than I would do. I'm just a guy searching for headphones that sound and feel great and that don't cost as much as a used car.

Love Beyerdynamic, 2nd Pair

By Heath S from Jasper, AL on December 28, 2020 Music Background: home studio, song writer

Great headphones for tracking. I have an open back pair (DT-990 in 250 ohm) that I use a lot for mixing, as I mix with and without headphones, both. These are 80 ohm and are perfect for my needs in tracking. I had a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro cans, and honestly, going from my open back Beyerdynamic to the Sennheiser I came to a realization... The HD280 Pro may have a purpose, but it wasn't tracking and natural sound. These cans have a great sound, comfortable feel, and don't bleed over the mic like the HD280 Pro. I highly recommend these. If you have a headphone amp that can power the 250 ohm, I would recommend that set, too. May be the only thing that I would/should have done differently, but otherwise these are great.

Aesome Headphones

I've always used my Beats Studio to record my drums, had it for almost 8 years, and I just wanted something new. I talked to grant, one of the sales guys at sweetwater, he told me to take a look at these, for sure, the best Headphones, I have the 80ohm because I plug directaly out of my interface and im in love! So confortable, awesome price and GREAT sound, just a perfect studio headphone!

Great Sound and Comfortable

By Drummerdude from Tennessee on December 11, 2020 Music Background: Drums, Keys, Sessions, Mixing, Writer

I spent some time looking at headphones in this price range to replace the Audio Technica M-50's. I wear a 7 5/8 ball cap if that tells you something. I wanted something more comfortable. I already had the Beyerdynamic 990's for long mixing sessions which fit great and does the mixing job well too. I knew the 770's would wear well and obviously would sound great for their purpose. Both great companies and make excellent products but I'm glad I went with the Beyerdynamics.

Love them

By KC from TX on December 2, 2020 Music Background: I sell popcorn at the venue.. but tell the chicks I’m in the music business

Use these straight into the UA Audio Apollo X4. Help to hear little things you miss in a monitor mix. They also sound great recording. When your headphones sound great it's easier to track.

Just excellent headphones!!

By Dave E. from Kissimmee, FL on December 1, 2020 Music Background: DJ/Keyboard/Music Recording

I'm very pleased with my purchase of these headphones. I use them for tracking and even mixing. Mainly on my Korg keyboard just to play and enjoy the wider soundstage. I love how I can almost hear where each instrument is at when listening to them. I usually used my Sony MDR-7506 and V6. The DT 770 at 80 ohms truly makes a difference. I appreciate the lower end where it's just right and not over emphasized or synthesized. I practically put away my old Sonys. Love these headphones! It's truly a nice experience to my ears. Now, if I can just couple them with a perfect DAC/AMP. They don't really need them since I'm using a MOTU audio interface with sufficient power; however, I would love to explore the full capabilities of these headphones with something better. A future upgrade is awaiting!

You will never want another set of cans!

By Jeff Young from Arizona on November 2, 2020 Music Background: recording engineer and guitarist.

I'm hearing subtleties in songs I've listened to for decades and can't believe what I was missing. Incredibly comfortable too! Seriously, what I'm doing requires me to wear cans about 3 to 6 hours a day on average. My old Akai sounded great but were bruising my ears. There is no problem here with the comfort during long term use. But really...the sound. Guys, the sound is amazing. This is a must for anyone who needs the best possible headphones at this price point, I fully intended to spend more and didn't need to once these arrived.

Comfortable Quality

By Zach on October 20, 2020

I wanted some closed-back, relatively "flat-sounding" headphones for mixing, and these 80 ohms really deliver. They are incredibly comfortable and work great with my interface (Behringer UMC404). It's easy to forget I have them on after an hour or two. They have a very wide frequency band and make a good counterpart to my open-back AKGs, and the fact they are made in Germany is a cherry on top.

I'm a huge fan of Sweetwater and after shopping with them for a few years, I think their customer service is the best of the best. They reached out to me regarding a back-order issue with these headphones, but were able to find and ship a pair very soon afterward. That sort of proactive service is very welcome to see nowadays

Comfortable and great sound

By Timothy Mathews on October 12, 2020

I have 2 pairs of these and absolutely love them. I barely notice that I'm wearing them, but they sound great.
Pair these with Sonarworks SoundID and they even work great for those with severe hearing loss in one ear, like me.

Amazing Excellent Headphones

By Chuck from Philadelphia, PA on October 9, 2020 Music Background: Pro Bassist

I got these( 80 ohm version) to replace a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 PROS that fell apart after 8-9 years. My Bass sounds amazing through these cans. I'm using a Apollo Twin MK as a interface. When recording I usually prefer monitoring through my studio monitors but the sound through the DT 770's is so on point I record with the headphones. They are super comfortable.
Depending on your interface you may need a headphone amp. Even through the Apollo I had to crank the volume to get a level that I was feeling. I got the small Mackie HM4 headphone amp that did the trick. The DT 770's are fantastic.

Headphone Glory

By Jim Lasher from Long Island, NY on October 4, 2020 Music Background: Recording engineer, saxophonist.

Okay, so I take no credit for choosing these headphones. A recording industry insider--mixer extraordinaire recommends these, hands down, to all of his home-based voice talent and engineers alike. Compared to my other field mixing cans, these are reproducing bass that I've never had before. Frankly, during these work from home times, I can wear these DT 770 Pro headphones all day without pain or sweat and keep the family free of my amplified sessions. Podcasters can be raunchy, you see. The price is fair for these headphones, the hardware is solid and the comfort and quality are unmatched. Buy 'em!

Great Headphones!

By Earl Shores from PA on August 31, 2020 Music Background: 40+ years playing, singing, and mixing

These are easily the best headphones I've ever had the pleasure to put on my ears (80 ohm version). I use them for "dry" band rehearsals, solo practice, mixing, and general music listening on my computer and iPhone. Very comfortable for long sessions of whatever you're doing. I love the straight chord, always finding the weight and audible rustle of curly chords distracting. When mixing, I know these headphones will give me a slightly bass heavy mix when I finally put the track through my studio monitors. Despite this slight bass bias, I feel like they give a very accurate overall rendering of whatever you're listening to. (For disclosure, I am a bass player, so…;) The ultimate compliment I can give to these headphones, is that songs I've listened to for decades - on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD, Mp3 - almost sound brand new. I hear things, or at least notice parts, that I'd not picked out before. Just fantastic clarity and separation of the sound. And my audio/music experience stretches over decades, all the way back to the Stone Age of the 1970s, when I had a Home Studio "thing" going with a 4-channel TEAC reel-to-reel (sound-on-sound and a 7 1/4 ips tape speed!). Worth every penny, and a great buy for the price.

Toni and Beyer

By Keith MacMichael from Mount Jackson, VA on August 29, 2020 Music Background: 50 year professional drummer, guitarist and educator

These are fabulous headphones. That said, about Toni. I've been building a home studio in my garage for both video and audio. As you all know this can sometimes feel like an overwhelming endeavor. The learning curve is intense and the choices are not only based on getting great quality gear but - does it fit with the overall project and is it affordable. Toni has been the perfect partner is this ongoing project! She is both a guitarist and drummer like myself and has built her own recording/video studio. And is incredibly patient with my seemingly endless barrage of questions! LOL.

One more thing - she is more about me then about the size of the sale. For instance on this last one I was going to go with 2 pair of headphones. One for tracking and one for mixing. She saved me 350.00 by turning me on to these. They are fabulous for both! Thanks you Toni, Beyer and Sweetwater, Keith

Very true sounding cans!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 19, 2020 Music Background: Solo Bassist, Singer-Songwriter

I am very impressed with these headphones, for the small price tag. They don't color the sound and are, therefore, excellent for reference and for recording.

Amazing Headphones!

By Youssef Hady on August 18, 2020 Music Background: Music Producer, Mixing Engineer, Session Drummer and Session Percussionist

Those headphones are just amazing! I have never heard any headphones so beautiful and pure sounding. I've only had them for 2 weeks, but as far as mixing goes, it has been my best 2 weeks in the studio.

Elevated experience

By Mat G from Southern Cal on August 16, 2020 Music Background: 40 years full time player and producer

I have two three small tracking/mixing bays that get used mostly with cans until final mixes. I found that it difficult to replace the ear cups on my peeling KRKs and wanted to try something different and easily parts replaceable. These checked all those boxes plus have a very flat curve. They are very comfortable and quiet, great for tracking acoustic guitar and vocals. The velour ear cups are delicious. Also, the 80 ohms are plenty loud so you can push them with just about anything (even portable stuff). These are a bit bulkier than the 8400's but not a problem for long sessions.

Seems like an excellent replacement

By David from Denton, TX on July 28, 2020 Music Background: Voice-over and narration only

I had a set of Koss Pro4A headphones for more than 40 years that needed to be replaced. This product was recommended by Sweetwater based on what described in having in the old Koss set and other criteria. This seems like a very good replacement; probably better in some regards. Only thing I miss (some) is the coiled cord. It came with a soft bag for storage and transporting, but a hard-shell case would have been nice.

This One is Just Right

By Jeff Foster on July 18, 2020

First please read the write up for this product on the Sweetwater site. This is important because it is very well thought out and written, and allows me to just add my own thoughts on this product. I have found these headphones to have a great range (5Hz-35kHz) making critical listening much easier, and with the plush ear cups long sessions are no problem. Also it does bear mentioning the price point is easy on the wallet. Though I am not a photographer I have added a few pictures of these headphones in the hope they provide a good representation this product "in the real world". Last but by no means least I would be remiss not to give a tip of the hat to the exceptional job my personal sales professional did in helping me in choosing this listening solution, Bottom line if you are looking for a pair of studio quality headphones you would be well advised to give these headphones a very serious look.

Great Value

By Brad on July 4, 2020 Music Background: Home studio recording

I had my eye on these headphones for a while, but I had Shure headphones that I was satisfied with. Then came the price drop. I felt it was a very good price and decided to order them. I was not disappointed. The sound quality is soothing to my ears. It's a nice smooth sound that seems to filter out the high ear piercing frequencies. They are light and very comfortable. You just don't feel like taking them off. I like the straight cable especially after having to wrestle with the coiled cable of my other headphones. I am very glad I purchased them and highly recommend them.

Transparent and super comfortable

I needed a closed back headphone for vocal recording, but also a better set of headphones for mastering work. This works great for both. A solid price point, and very comfortable for hours long mix sessions. Obviously there are more high-end products available, but this did the trick for my projects.

Love these for my Piano

By Samuel from Victorville, California on June 30, 2020

I bought these headphones because I was tired of using my normal headphones for everything, and just wanted a standalone headphone for my Piano. I bought these and hey! They are amazing. I can't hear anything but my piano when I have these on. I own the Yamaha CSP-150 in case you have one too and are wondering if it can power the headphones. They are loud, but not too loud on max volume, and the highs aren't too bad, the Lows are phenomenal. Nice and deep, without feeling messy.

Awesome product at a great price. Full range, the quality exceeded my expectations! I was hesitant at first after wearing in ears for so long. The comfort is unbeatable, I can play for hours in my home studio with the volume and range I desire without bothering anyone.

Moderate price, premium performance

By Terry Mehlhorn from Georgia on June 22, 2020 Music Background: Player, writer, producer.

I watched an independent Review of studio cans on YouTube and was impressed by what the content creator had to say about this set. What I had been looking for was a set that was comfortable, lightweight, and affordable. These hit the marks. I can use for hours with no discomfort and they are tight enough not to shift about. Gracious cable length and the mini adapter has more threads than usual, making great contacts. Using a known music source and meters the response across the spectrum is very flat. Bleed through tests...none.
I recommend these as a primary headset for studio use. Why people pay a high premium for so called "audiophile" sets is beyond my understanding. Buy this-you will not be disappointed.

First studio monitor headphones ever

I'm building a home studio and needed to buy a pair of headphones, after doing some research and asking a few friends I decided to get the Beyerdynamic 770. This are absolute fire! The sound quality has blown me away, specially the way they handle panning, you can hear highs and mids crystal clear, and the lows are extremely rich. They are built to last for a couple years. Shoutout to Ryan and Tina for the excellent customer service and support!

Very Fine Headphones

By Rick Stockhaus from Massachusetts on June 16, 2020 Music Background: Musician and sound engineer for over 40 years

I have been a sound engineer for over 40 years. I have to say that these headphones are the finest that I have ever heard. They are not noise canceling but are so quiet that they might as well be. Absolute sonic perfection. They fit over your entire ear making them very comfortable to wear for long mixing sessions. I purchased the 80 ohm version because I wanted to be able to use them with other devices that don't have high output. I highly recommend them.

First Studio Headphones

By Bruce Mackay from Eden Prairie, MN on June 9, 2020 Music Background: Cello Performance Major

Skip this paragraph for my impressions but I wanted to share a little about my perspective first. I am a cello performance major and have been playing a variety of instruments my whole life. I have always appreciated nice sounding things. During quarantine I started listening to a lot more music in addition to my playing as I had a lot more free time. I have also become interested more in mixing and other production work especially as I have started to engage more with music I like to listen to. This interest in recording has lead me into buying these Beyerdynamics as a headphone to listen to my own recordings and also to enjoy listening to music more. So I cannot speak to them as they compare to other headphones but I have some good ears.

They are phenomenal, excellent sound stage, it is super easy to identify different instruments because they come from different sound sources so clearly. Identifying rhythm vs lead guitar for example is super easy even when there isn't a huge tonal difference between the two guitars, 2 acoustics for example. They are super clear and report back a ton of detail. I can really hear the fine details of how my bow is engaging with the strings. I can hear the slight differences in my vibrato. When listening to even just decent spotify or youtube recordings of cellists it sounds like they are in the room. The base is clean and tight, mids are powerful and full and highs really shine. Vocals sound magical both male and female, be it Beyonce belting halo or Sam Smith begging me to stay. Not that this is the extent of my music taste I've just had a lot of fun listening to some really polished easy pop, I mean there is a reason it is catchy. To sum it all up they are my first pair of headphones like this the closest being my trust Senheisser HD4.5 bluetooth noise canceling headphone which are very different, cheaper have a very different feature set and get blown out of the water in sound quality by these DT 770s. I cannot tell you that these are the best or what they sound like as compares to other headphones but they are fantastic.

Great Headphones

By TJ from Indianapolis on May 18, 2020 Music Background: Professional Drummer/ Audio Production Enthusiast

These have a wide frequency response and are pretty close to flat, with a little more bass than most mixing headphones I've used (which is actually a good thing- mixes will translate better to most consumer headphones.) Picked mine up for $150 at Sweetwater after my Sennheiser HDs crapped out. VERY pleased. Super easy to pinpoint frequencies with these for mixing, and quite comfortable.

The only problem I had with my first pair I bought 10 years ago is I flat wore them out. On the road, in the studio, video/audio work. They are still performing as well as ever.

The new "fresh" pair even better. I'll use them both in the studio and take the old pair on the road.

DT 770 Pro 80 closed back head phones are nice

By JP from Arizona on October 6, 2019 Music Background: Beginner

Well, initially they did not work for me. But that statement is a bit misleading. I bought the DT 770 Pro 80 closed back head phones to be used as a quiet practice device with my Spector 4 string bass guitar with the VOX AP2-BS plug in piece. As it turned out the head phones have a 1/4 inch plug. The VOX has a 1/8 inch head phone plug in port. So, I ordered an adapter to go from 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch and the head phones worked perfectly. Really nice soft and snug fit. So now I can practice anytime and anyplace. I would recommend these...

Great everyday use

By Tony from Indianapolis, IN on July 26, 2019 Music Background: Drummer & Engineer

These headphones are amazing! I've had my pair for a little under a year now and I use them 8 hours a day at work editing audio books and videos and they never bug me or feel uncomfortable. The logo has some very small wear on it but the pads have remained in great shape. I also use them at home when I mix/record my band. They are great to use while tracking because they are closed and don't leak or bleed onto tracks, and they are great for mixing if you're in a pinch and don't have any good monitors around. And of course they are great for listening to music. In my opinion, these are pretty much unbeatable at this price point.

Great headphones

By Simon from Tucson on July 24, 2019

I connected these up to my Sabian Drum Monitor and they"re great! I would recommend them as they are light enough, albeit plasticky, to wear for a good 2 hour session and they don"t seem to leave my head sore as if I"ve had a vice on my head. They are a bit bit pricey but they"re worth it.
As for Sweetwater, they were great, as per normal, as I had a few questions and Cody answered them fully. Having used Sweetwater on more than one occasion, I feel they are a firm I can trust now so when I need anything " drumlike" I now turn to them if they have it. Thanks again for another painless transaction Sweetwater.

An essential

By William Troia on June 13, 2019 Music Background: Performer, composer, recording engineer, audiophile

These are the essential headphones for tracking, mixing, and mastering. Not only do they have good isolation, they also have a fantastic Soundstage that sounds like being inside a tuned studio. There are no other headphones I've tried that can do as much as these as well.

The headband and earpads are incredibly comfortable and while I've tried other earpads with interesting results, the stock velours were obviously used for a reason because when married with the rest of the headphone they are a huge part of the sound. Putting them onto other headphones is comfortable but doesn't give the same results. It's very much a sum of the parts situation that was chosen with great discernment.

What these headphones won't do without EQ changes is give you fun effects. These are fun in their own way, but they don't blast sparkling vocals to the front of the mix or sustain bass notes through frequency buildup. I have other headphones I use for that kind of thing, and theres a very good reason those don't get used for general listening, mixing, or mastering.

The one department where these aren't the very best is tracking. The sound is far too neutral to emphasize certain frequencies. A good pair of tracking headphones (like Sony mdr 7506) would compliment these well.

Currently I have about 10 pairs of headphones and these are the only ones that fall under "necessity" and sometimes beat headphones at their own game, like in cases where I need something ultra portable and I could very well grand Koss ksc75s that sound great and fit easily in a pants pocket but I'll lug the 770s around instead despite them not even folding because they're simply that good. Or in the case of wanting an open back headphone with great rhythmic qualities, an obvious choice would be the classic akg k240 but instead I'll grab the 770s which aren't even open.

They're just that good. I was once of the mind that it's a better purchase to get several pairs of different headphones. It doesn't sound like a crazy idea, because there's great brands like Samson and superlux that offer high bang for your buck. I no longer feel that way because of this one exception. If I had to choose between three $100 pairs of unique headphones or just one pair of the 770s I'd pick the beyers without hesitation.

This is the second pair of Beyerdymanic DT 770 headphones I have purchased for my home studio - so you know I must have been impressed with the first pair too. The 770"s are very comfortable and provide very clear, precise sound with excellent base response (which is important to me as a bass player.) Whether I"m recording tracks or mixing on headphones the 770"s are a great tool. And I"ve gotten positive feedback from all the guest musicians who have used these headphones in my studio. A great value.

Have lasted me for over 6 years

By Gnarsack from CA on February 19, 2019 Music Background: Musician, producer, recording engineer

Incredible product. I have put mine through hell and back and it has survived 7 years of intensive use and traveling with no case. They are a joy to listen to and the construction is super solid. Extremely comfortable (watch out for walking away from the console/computer while they are on because you can barely feel them when you have them on). My favorite part is that all the parts are replaceable. I just replaced my pads and they feel brand new again. The only con is that they are not exactly flat and they exaggerate some of the highs, but I guess once you learn them thats not a problem either. If you are mixing with headphones, stop, do yourself a favor and get some monitors. They are really good for overdubs and general listening and some light mixing.

I have been referencing my mixes on a pair of Sennheiser 280 Pros for a while now. I have always felt like they were never immersive enough and I was not hearing the whole picture. Don"t get me wrong they 280"s do the trick on a dime but for 60 bucks more... just spend the extra cash! I can not believe the clarity for the price of these bad boys! I can now hear strange artifacts and other subtle anomalies I would have never heard before. Unwanted Elements I would have just let breeze by to the master have been gated. Most of all, the DT 770 are a more organic/accurate representation of how your elements are siting in the sonic field. You can far better visualize your next approach. The lightweight design and padded cans are a much embraced bonus. Do you guys know in the pre chorus of "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac there is a glockenspiel or xylophone present? I have heard that song 1,000,000 times throughout my life and never heard it... today I did. I can"t recommend the Beyerdynamics DT770 enough.

The best sub $300 studio monitors

By Christian Vela on December 13, 2018 Music Background: EDM, FUNK, ROCK

Believe the hype. Just get these, they blow away every other sub $300 (or more) headphone I've tried including the Sennheiser HD 280, Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, and even the AKG k7XX. After finally getting these I want to throw all the others in the trash and buy 2 more sets of these for the studio. I don't know why the other headphones listed here are even popular. If you listen to a mix side by side with these and the others it's like night and day.. try it.

I bought the DT 770 as a second pair of headphones for recording and monitoring in my studio. The DT 770 is just about perfect in everyway. Comfortable. Great isolation. Realistic fidelity. And love the straight cable. Coiled cables on most headphones are a pain in the A. They kink and catch on everything in sight. . The DT 770's straight cable eliminates an annoying distraction. When it comes time to buy another set of headphones, I'll come back to Beyerdynamic. Great product

Glad Brad suggested these!

By Bill from CA on August 20, 2018 Music Background: Pro artist/writer/recordist

For whatever reason Ive been using the same good but old Sony headphones for recording, for more years than I will admit. I began thinking recently that they are leaking too much when tracking, and that I may not be hearing the best picture in my mixes. So talked with Brad Irvan at Sweetwater and he suggested these. It's like night and day!

Love the DT770

Great set of cans! Clean sound, great frequency range, tight bass, and comfortable too! Would highly recommend to anyone!

The best

By JazzMan from Toledo Ohio on May 30, 2018 Music Background: Musician and grammy-nominated producer

First of all Sweetwater was excellent in this whole transaction and Speedy Delivery.. The headphones are great and the build quality is definitely superb. I would even say without any reservations that the build quality is even better than my Bose headphones that I have now. Great choice

The cleanest hearing aids I've had

By Peter GM on April 19, 2018 Music Background: Electro House

I take a lot of research time but I decided for them mainly because of some reviews that show that these are better than the Audiotechnica ATH-M50X, simply because their sound is cleaner, clear, sincere, without any help, they are perfect for those details since you can really hear all the sounds that you are going to gregariously and giving slight tweaks, even once listening to music to detect production errors in other songs, and it was difficult to get used to them, so much "Clarity" I had never heard before the true sounds of a song until I buy these headphones, without doubts I recommend them.

Awesome headphones!

By Chris from Mississippi on April 13, 2018 Music Background: 20 years Djing

The build quality is amazing, soundstage is just right and they"re very comfortable. They have an excellent balance with the highs, mids and lows and in my opinion the bass on these are just right... they have a nice thump and punchiness to them but, it doesn"t drown out the mids/highs or muddy the sound stage like so many headphones do. These are perfect for Djs that are looking for headphones with a clean, crisp sound but, still with good bass and are not overly harsh on the ears at all. Its good to have a pair of headphones (in my opinion) that have a similar sound and that compliment the speakers/monitors that you"re using which makes mixing a little bit easier... at least for my ears they do. These compliment my Focal Alpha 80 monitors (which I also bought from Sweetwater) very well and has already improved my mixing just for the short amount of time I"ve had them... I would highly recommend them to anyone out there looking for a "best bang for the buck" headphone.

Good choice for me

Absolutely fantastic!

By Matt on October 3, 2017 Music Background: Musician, Producer

I've tried pretty much every pair of headphones within the $80 - $300 price range. These are by far the best in literally every imaginable way. They are very accurate headphones. It's a steal at this price. If you listen to your music in these things, and it's sounding good, chances are it WILL sound just like that, or just that good, on everything you listen to it from. These things are so accurate and have such depth.

Let me put it this way... I use them for guitar tracking. I need to be able to hear the nuances of what I'm recording, so I can select the right guitar / preamp / mic combination for the part I'm recording. Tiny differences are a big deal. With these headphones, I hear everything I need to hear to be able to make the best choice. When I took some guitar tracks I had recently made, which I'd been listening to through these headphones, and played them through my friend's $15,000 Barefoot Speaker setup in his studio, it sounded exactly the same as it had sounded in these headphones... There were no surprises. That says a lot.

I Hear My Music Like Never Before

By Harold Bones on July 27, 2017 Music Background: Producer, Singer, Songwriter,Rapper,

So I was searching for a new pair of headphones to add to my workflow in the studio while mixing my tracks. I was between this badboys or the AT50 but after talking to Alex Morales I decided to buy the DT 770 Pro 80. Boy Oh Boy!!! The first time I plugged them in and heard the reference I was shocked. I've never heard my music like this before. So detailed, so clean, so balanced. I remember calling Alex after trying them because I couldn't believe how amazing this headphones were. I'm very happy with my purchase and I do recommend them to everyone! For the price and the quality you get with the Pro 80 there's no rival.

My best & favorite headset

By Shawn from Aurora , IL on April 8, 2024

I own several headsets. I wish I had applied the council "buy nice not twice". These are so true to the sound that any LIVE where I used these, it sounds exactly as it did when I go back and listen to the recording.

Small detail that cheaper pairs have and that is a detachable cable. I don't know what will happen when the original cable is no longer usable.

Just pre-ordered a pair of the century version.

Basically industry standard

By Colyn White from Cartersville, GA on December 15, 2023 Music Background: FOH/AudioEngineer/Drummer

I honestly have yet to be in a studio that doesn't have at least one pair of these and there's good reason for that. I can do basically everything on these from monitoring for a drummer all the way up to probably about 80-90 precent of a mix. Very detailed with a good clean low end and great transient response for the price. If it had a removable cable it would be about perfect. They aren't mastering reference grade but you should probably still have at least one pair.

I love it!

K240 Longtime User

By Eric D from DFW, TX on December 7, 2022 Music Background: Voice

After having just completed my first audio book, I'm pleased to say that these "standard" DT770s are extremely comfortable - especially for longer periods. And of course since they're closed-back, I honestly hear more - better.

My only wish is that the cable could be replaced if needed, as I've accidentally torn them in the past...

Thanks Danny B for the recommendation!

DT 770's are Legendary for a reason

By Shred109 from Colorado Springs, CO on November 16, 2022

Don't let the low price of these keep you from considering them,The Beyer DT770 Pros are really well constructed, sound better than many cans that cost alot more $,and are super comfortable for long sessions. There is nothing worse than ear fatigue, no matter how spectacular the sonic quality might be.
I am deducting 1/2 star because the cable is non detachable, hopefully Beyer with address that in a future revision. If they do,I will most certainly pony up for another pair of these.

The 80 ohm version works well from all the sources I've tried and even sound amazing on my laptops.

These are a must to consider if you need closed back headphones!

Good value for additional headphones

By Jay from Los Angeles on February 9, 2022 Music Background: Almost 50 years on electric bass.

I needed to be able to hear bass lines more clearly in recordings for cover tunes and my open-back Sennheiser's weren't helping. The sales engineer recommended these for what I need, reasonably priced and super comfortable.

Wonderful for flat and isolated sound!

By Isaiah on January 14, 2022 Music Background: Recording artist and engineer

I have been recommended these by a few different friends, and the three options for OHMs really allows you to get them for what you need. They are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, allowing me to wear them for upwards of 5 or 6 hours without head pain. They also have a very well isolated sound for mixing or tracking. If you get annoyed by a click getting picked up in your recording these will almost certainly eliminate that. The only downside is that the cable does not separate from the headphones, and I've read reviews complaining about if you break the cable. This is not a problem for me due to how careful I am, but maybe a risk for you. The cable itself is of very high quality though, so it would take a very rough user to break. Hope this helps!

I can hear it ALL!

By Sweetwater Customer on October 18, 2021

As a VO talent, you need to hear EVERYTHING so that you can edit accordingly. You can hear it all with these headphones. Sode note: Sweetwater has the best customer service, right up there with Chick-Fil-A. I was able to make my order over test and I got a follow up test making sure I was satisfied with my purchase.

Extremely comfy, great fidelity without over-emphasis.

By Stephen Carlock from Liberty Hill, TX on October 7, 2021 Music Background: Voice Actor

I've worn this pair of cans with and without glasses for extended periods of time with no issues whatsoever - very easy to throw on, very snug and very comfortable. I wear these when tracking professional voiceovers and there is zero audio bleed whether I am just monitoring myself or pepping myself into a particular emotion via a background music track. I can also review audio at any volume next to sleeping folks in my house if needed with no issue. Fidelity is great, but does take some getting used to if you are coming from headphones that you thought were nice and flat, but actually weren't. Overall these are an excellent asset to a studio for both monitoring and mixing when you don't have the room or desire for external monitors. Highly recommended.

Very Good

By Ethan DeArmond from Indiana on August 2, 2020 Music Background: 6 years classical Band, solo artist

While I don't have a whole lot of experience with various types of headphones, only going through about 4 pairs in the last 7 years, I do have some good comparisons. I've been using a Razer kraken for all of my computer listening and that has been a great pair for as long as I've had it but I needed an upgrade. These headphones are amazing, they have a great response and a great range of sound. The highs are crisp and the lows actually sound like they are the original volume, unlike some of the others. They have a great feel to them and don't feel like they are going to break anytime soon. If your looking for a great pair of headphone without having to break the bank, I suggest you go with these. Just keep in mind they aren't the best if you want extreme ear bleeding bass, but you can do that if you put your sound through an EQ.

Great Multipurpose Headphones

By Michael A on June 1, 2020

Absolutely love these headphones. I had the 250 ohm version years ago, but sold them. Decided to just buy another pair after going through multiple other headphones and not being satisfied with their comfort and sound. I think these are great all round headphones. Great for playing games, watching videos, making music, and listening to music. I admit I have a bias towards lower frequencies. I love bassy music and hearing explosions in game. The great thing about these are there's a nice punch without being overwhelming and muddy. My only complaint is they get a bit hot on the head if you live in a hotter area like I do and needed to be stretched out a bit so they weren't so tight on my head.

Great buy

i first wanted to buy the 770s but they were out of stock thankfully the guys at sweetwater recommended these for exactly what i needed which was to track vocals but i also been using them to game online, and mix aswell and i really happy with this purchase

Great Choice for Guitar Practice

By Morgan McAdam from MN on September 19, 2018

I use these exclusively through a Yamaha THR10 for guitar practice, light recording and "play along" with mp3 tracks. For staight practice, I have found these to be very neutral and natural in their sound replication. The sound isolation is good for my environment and any recording needs. The overall output is balanced when playing to existing tracks. They truly seem like an accurate, personal monitor. Also, very comfortable even over 4-5 hour sessions. I would recommend them for sure.

Some amazing headphones for a moderate price

By Cody Copenhaver from Davenport, IA on June 5, 2017

***Note: I use these mainly for listening to music. In terms of using in a studio, I have not done this as of yet.***

I've dealt with Skullcandy buds and Crushers for the majority of my listening experience. Naturally I wanted to graduate to a better brand. The few Sennheisers (the 598s open and closed back) I owned were not what I wanted. No bass, too high treble, and made everything sound kind of hollow.

These, however, blow me away in almost every single way. They feel so comfortable on my large ears and large head. The padding is a felt material but hardly noticeable while you wear them. Every part is replaceable as well, so if anything goes wrong you can get the right piece you need. They're quite large in general, and a bit on the heavy side. If you're looking for light and compact headphones, these may not be what you want.

Sound wise, they're absolutely incredible. They expand and open more than my old Skullcandys ever did. Every channel of sound pops out and is easily distinguishable. Bass sounds very lifted and almost up front compared to what I've had to deal with. Treble is a bit higher than I'd like, but it's not a hassle nor is it a negative feature. Spacey sounding songs, such as the newer Deftones songs, really come alive with them.

All in all, I find these very comfortable, large enough to fit my head (which can be a chore for someone with a 24" circumference head!) and, in my opinion, sound better than Sennheisers that go for around the same price. The price may be a bit steep for thrifty shoppers, but if you have the dough, I strongly recommend these. Thank goodness for Sweetwater's 3-Easy Payments plan!

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro

By Ted from PA on January 2, 2024

I gave these 4 out of 5 stars for just listening to music, not for studio use. I bought them for the frequency response range, but they seem to be light in the low end as compared to the Sony MDR7506. Although I do think the Sonys color the sound a little more. I have only used them through my computer so far as well. So, if I get my recording studio back up and running, maybe I will change my review. But they sound great and very clean. I'd like to try a mix with them and compare it to my monitor mix.

A long-overdue studio upgrade

By Steve Krumlauf from Minneapolis-St. Paul on December 22, 2023 Music Background: Radio image voice/producer and audiobook narrator/editor

Since I need a decent pair of headphones in my work producing radio programs for worldwide distribution as well as narrating and editing audio books, after struggling with the Sennheiser HD25 for several years, recently, I thought it was long-past time to upgrade to something more professional. While I appreciated the acoustics of the Sennheiser HD25 headphones, the tight headband felt like a vice against the ears. After reading the reviews on several options, I decided the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro would be an excellent replacement. What I didn't expect, however, was the small difference in the impedence between the Sennheiser and the Beyerdynamic, (only 10 ohms), seemed to make a big enough difference in the monitor level, so much so, that with the Beyerdynamic, I had to run the earphone volume control on my Focusrite 2i2 interface wide open in order to hear much of anything. That prompted me to add the Rolls Personal Monitor Amplifier (PM50se) along with the finest, three-foot Mogami TRS cable to connect to the Beyerdynamic headphones, to give me more volume control in my ears. The entire audio package upgrade from Sweetwater has made me a much happier camper!* *(The photo shows all three new toys in our arsenal, the new Beyerdynamic headphones, the new Rolls PM50se atop the Focusrite 2i2, and the new Mogami cable tying them all together.)

Great sound and comfortable.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 9, 2023

These sound great and I can wear for extended periods of time without my ears starting to hurt.
Only reason I give 4/5 stars is L and R were reversed based on the engravings on the headset. I wound up disassembling and swapping them around. Didn't take too long but just the fact that it had to be done on a "professional-quality" headset was a little aggravating.

Protect & Serve

By Sweetwater Customer on February 17, 2023

Losing your hearing is not good. Hearing the rest of the band at a level that doesn't leave your ears ringing for hours is good. These headphones do just that. I can't afford expensive custom made in-ear monitors, so these headphones are the next best thing. Sound reduction for the hours of drum playing and hearing the mix... that's what these do the best. They are comfortable over-the-ear and don't slip even during fast playing.

Great sounding headphones. But when I use them with my Marshall Code 100, they have no umph.

just bought a pair from sweetwater

By MJB on November 15, 2021

I've used these in the past to solo channels to set up mixes, to mix broadcast from FoH, and also to drum with. They have great isolation and that's the main thing with these, they also have decent bass response.
The sound is overall decent and they do a great job of smoothing out bad DACs/headphone amps so you can use them in a lot of places and not have anything stick out like on HP with more detail/resolution. IMO they are ugly and bulky but they do the job!

Thanks sweetwater.

I like 'em

By Derek Zane on November 2, 2021

in my search for headphones with a lot of volume output I thought these might do the trick. My video game headset has more volume but I love the fabric around the ears instead of plastic.
Still looking for the "perfect" headset but in the meantime, I really like these.
I'm not crazy about threaded 1/4" adapter but it is what it is.

Great pair of headphones

By Sweetwater Customer on April 7, 2021

Great pair of headphones! My only complaint is that they come with a bag to store them in which is pretty much useless. It offers no protection to the headphones and is shapeless so you can't store them anywhere. So whether they're in the bag or not I still have to pay them on top of something. For a product of this quality and expense you should really include a case. The cardboard display stand they include almost works but it's weightless and after the third time of knocking over my headphones I tossed it in the trash. Lastly I wish these had a longer cable. But as far as the actual headphones? They're great! Glad I bought them.

Excellent sound but too warm for my head

By Reid Hester from PISMO BEACH, CA on December 12, 2020 Music Background: aspiring bass player, former latin percussion player

That sums it up. These over the ear headphones were way too warm for my ears. The sound was excellent though. Fortunately Evan, my rep, recommended some Westone in ear studio phones and they're much more to my liking.

Too muffled for my taste

By Catherine Campion from Minneapolis on November 10, 2020 Music Background: Professional voice talent and cellist since the 90s

I was using Sennheisers for years, then AudioTechnica, and I'm just spoiled by their crisp, clear sound. As a voice talent who spends hours editing every day, I know these are better to preserve my hearing, and I'll waste less time editing out mouth noise because now I cannot hear it! But, they are not, "As comfortable as two kittens hugging my ears," as I was told. They're fine, just might not buy them again. Will see in two years...

nice headphones

By Derek from California on August 29, 2020 Music Background: done many things for many years

I have used these for several years, I have never found them to be problematic in any way. they give a clear and concise sound. I have never noticed them to have any outstanding sonic artifacts. I bought a set for a friend, he was very happy with them. Buying these headphones is not something that you will regret later.

Pretty good

By Charles Pirrello from Manchester, MO on July 14, 2020

I know you get what you pay for, and for $150 these sound pretty good. The truth is, if you're buying them to listen to music you might want to audition other models, but if you're using them to monitor your singing while recording they're fine. They lack some definition in the low end, but for the most part they're clean. You can't really crank 'em up without distortion, but again, that's not what I bought them for.

Headphones that stand the test of time

By Sweetwater Customer on May 17, 2020

I had my initial reservations regarding these cans. But they have now been put aside, as I am pleased with the quality of construction and sound of these headphones. They offer very nice studio monitoring qualities as well as great comfort when listening for long periods of time . I highly recommend these headphones for the beginner to average audiophile.

Way more comfortable than a set of Sennheisers. Less flakey than my open back Grados. I personally like the large ear muff that goes around my ear instead of smashing it. (Too many piercings!) The cloth material is warmer and more comfortable than the typical vinyl. I haven't found my hair caught in them.. yet.

Love these headphones!

By Peter Link from New York City on July 12, 2017 Music Background: Composer/Producer

I've used these headphones as my turn to reference favorites for the last 7 or 8 years now and love the quality and depth of them. I recently bought 2 more sets so that visitors could listen at the same quality that I listen when I play them a song or two. My only gripe is that as the price of them came down over the years, they decided to go with a straight non expandable cable rather that the original curlicue expandable one they originally offered. But that's just a minor quibble. Great pro phones!

Not What I Expected But Will Keep It Anyway

By Greg from Maine on February 23, 2024

After reading many excellent reviews, I bought these closed-back DT770s to use for mixing in my living room, where the leakage annoys my wife when mixing with open-back Sennheiser HD400s. The build-quality of DT 770s is great, although the hard plastic ear cups are more utilitarian than elegant, presumably because these were primarily designed more for the rough and tumble work of studio monitoring, rather than for studio mixing. Therefore, the comfort level is not quite what I thought it would be, but not worse than most lower-cost headphones. Sound-wise, the top end is hyped so they are overly bright and somewhat sibilant in the top end, compared to all other professional headphones I've used. While this will lead to dull mixes and listener fatigue during longer sessions, it may be perfect for extremely low-level mixing because the sibilance disappears and the hyped top end is clearly audible. I was going to send them back, but decided to keep them, where time will tell how my mixes translate when mixing at low-levels. That said, I'm certain they will be great addition to the studio can arsenal, being just the ticket for old, deaf musicians who need a HF boost in their cue mixes!

NOT FOR DRUMMERS

By Joe from St. Petersburg, FL on May 24, 2021

I dont know why these are recommended for drummers. They do not isolate up to 35db as advertised at all, there is just no way. So much noise bleeds in that you still have to blast music. You have to be deaf in order to say these are good for drum tracking live. Im sure they're awesome for mixing, but these are NOT good for drummers. Unless you're playing tap jazz there is no way you can track loud music safely while playing hard with these. So disappointed. Now I have to exchange them for in ears or UltraPhones which are twice the price. I didnt have to plug them in. The acoustic volume alone was loud enough to know you could not track at safe levels and hear the music over the kit. Another example of drums being the most expensive instrument to play lol

I initially got these as many had said nothing but great things .. I've owned thees for about over a year now .. yes these sound really great but personally I don't think there the top pick for mixing / recording. They are not as true to the sound as they should be and I found a bit to harsh on the highs which is a big no no considering they are for "Mixing" I may have gotten a bad one but I've found I'll pick up my 90$ headphones and get a much better mix and overall sound to them ..

Don't get me wrong they are great and sound good but I don't think they aren't true to the sound.but overall I can't deny that it is a quality pick and may benefit to some ears other then mine .

Limited Low End Sound Pressure

By Thomas Groody from CHICO, CA on January 12, 2023

While these are very comfortable for even a large 'noggin', great for late night computer listening, and don't slip off when tracking drums, they can 'fart' with bass drum or 5 string low b bass notes at 60% volume. The Audio Technica ATH50s are a studio standard, but tracking on drums they tend to slip forward and the bridge ends up covering your eyes making you look like Geordi LaForge on Star Trek Next Gen. So warn your Guitarist or the laughing gets recorded and duct tape them to your head.

Great Headphones for Studio Vocal and Mid-Ranges

By Briguy from Fort Wayne on January 26, 2022

These are really nice headphones, very comfortable. The new 14" and 16" M1 Pro and M1 Pro Max's can drive the 80 ohm and the higher ohm versions really well. I will say the only place I feel they lack is bass response. I have access to Tidal Master Collection and use an external Schitt(brand) DAC and Pre-amp for comparison against the internal one in the latest generation MacBook pro's. No matter internal or external DAC the bass is just lacking but again unless you are trying to do bass-based recording or tracks these are really nice!

The sweetwater guys are nice and helpful in picking the correct impedance for your use case as well. One article they mentioned which was helpful and I had no idea was about that new MacBook pro I recently acquired from sweetwater and the awesome internal headphone preamp. This is when you know the sweetwater guys are not just "selling" they could have easily not mentioned and tried to sell me an external amp, but they were honest and helpful. While I am sure more expensive external amps might sound better for some of your needs. Overall great headphones and the new MacBook pro make them sound amazing!

Needs more base

By Sweetwater Customer on November 12, 2021

I've tried several headphones lately for spoken voice editing. The DT 770's pick up the clicks, pops, and other "junk" that needs to removed. But, it's heavy on treble. I would like to hear more balance through the entire sound column, which means more base.

As for comfort, the fuzzy ear pads are nice.

Not as loud as I would have liked

By Sweetwater Customer on November 8, 2021

I'm not well versed in the best utility for these, but if you like to play your music loud, this may be an issue. Plugged into a phone (for normal music listening), this is where it is most noticeable. (but I would admit they may not be intended for such use). Full volume is not that impressive, for the size of these things. When I put them into my mixer, there is more control there to make them louder, but they still aren't as strong as my technics headphones. I personally like more bass, and I don't think these quite hit the mark there. They are however very clear. You can hear all elements to the songs, which is nice, and surely useful in the right circumstances.

Pros:
They are lighter than my technics, and the ear cushions are comfortable.
Sound is crystal clear. Can pick up on highs and lows equally.

Cons:
They are a bit stiff. The ear pieces are stationary. (cannot be flipped or folded in like on the technics).
They are on the quiet side. If you like bass and loud music, this could be annoying depending on what it is plugged into.
Cord is attached to the headphones. If the cord goes, so does the headphones (it would seem).

Anemic. Poor definition

By DAVID PIERCE from WILLITS, CA on February 9, 2024

On the plus side, they are relatively inexpensive, lightweight, and comfortable to wear. They are useful for the talent when recording. That concludes the nice things I have to say about these headphones. I had to crank the gain on them considerably to get a useful listening volume out of them. Definition is lackluster and bass response is anemic. If you depend on these as a mix reference, they will sucker you into creating a bass heavy mix to compensate for their weak bass response.

comfortable but disappointing

By Sweetwater Customer on November 10, 2023

Very Comfortable. Sound is weak/low, crackle sound on the right side at higher volume.

Bad fit and cord length

By Bob from USA on December 14, 2022 Music Background: Casual musician

Delivers on sound and quality, the appearance lead me to believe comfort and accessibility would also be a win. Unfortunately they're too tight for me so they cause headaches. Also the cord length was an issues, if it had been a bungee style cord at that length it would have been different, but It requires too much intervention and is cumbering.

These are not the same DT770 Pro 80ohm that started the craze.

By Sweetwater Customer on October 22, 2019

I have a pair from when this line was first launched around 10ys ago. Amazingly tight high and with incredible mid range imaging.

The new run I received today is missing that soft/tight high end and does not have half the imaging in the mid range as my old make. The only thing familiar is the low end.

I feel like people aren’t getting the same DTs as when the hype started. Especially in this 80ohm model.

Comfortable but sonic clarity not so great

By Sweetwater Customer on March 21, 2019

I wear over the ear hearing aids and have been looking for roomy closed back headphones with big cups. I own a few sets of Sony MDR models and they all sound GREAT but none have the comfort factor. The Beyerdynamic DT770s sound ok but there is a definite lack of presence in the mid-highs 800hz-5K while the bottom end is transparent and great-sounding. But the MDRs are just better sounding and are cheaper to boot. I wish these were better as they are the most comfortable set of cans I've worn but...

Get new ones

By Sweetwater Customer on November 28, 2021

I've had these for several months now and these are just terrible. Hollow sounding and I have to turn the volume all the way up on my interface and moniters for them to even be slightly audible. Highly recommend people to look into a different pair of headsets.

Not sure

By Sweetwater Customer on December 3, 2020

I have a pair of Marantz that sound way better & they were dirt cheap. Granted they are 32 ohmsWhen I record with these my recordings are off. I don't get it? The bass falls flat & flutters/distorts which makes it impossible to dial in true bass on the master or any track for that matter. The treble is way to high to make matters worse. I like the seal of these so I'm on the fence to keep them for vocals only. The cord absolutely sux because it sticks to everything! Sticks to my guitar & pulls really bad when I play sitting. For the money I can't for the life of me understand why people love these things. The vinyl is cheap & thin & I can already see them falling apart when the solvents leach out of it. I can also see wanting to mod them replacing the cord & the bass mod but I shouldn't have to do that. Over all I'm very disappointed in them. I mean they literally seem like they were designed to break in all aspects.

Jack is fragile

By James Hardman from Van Nuys, CA on May 25, 2023

These are very comfortable, and the sound quality is good. However the 1/8 jack is fragile. All it took was an awkward tug while they were plugged into my phone, and the jack tip was bent and the headphones basically useless.

Can't Repair Cord

By Customer X from New York City on February 17, 2021

I had mine for a few years. They sound good, they are comfortable, blah, blah. But then the cord failed. I have tried to get a replacement at least 5 times to no avail.

I will never buy another headphone that doesn't have a replaceable cable.

These headphones now hang on the my wall as a decoration and a reminder.

Garbage

By John Knowles from WEST HILLS, CA on March 12, 2024 Music Background: Singer songwriter, producer, video editor

I have been doing this for almost 40 years and FINALLY tried these. They sound about like the $ Sony expanded base headphones I bought at Rite-Aid to edit some videos during the fires when I could not get into my house to get my regular stuff. For years, I have been mixing with Audio-technica ATH MT50X headphones as reference - smooth, even and awesome even if not super comfortable after a long session. These I got reading reviews and hoping for a littlie more comfort. The reviews you read about the cord - it feels like it is made of bamboo and since it is not replicable, if you step on it..... trash. And as I said, they sound about like $ drug store headphones and I would not even pay that much for these absolute garbage.

a smeared out, dishonest sound

By Paul from Oklahoma on December 14, 2023 Music Background: boogie rocker

Took a chance on an 80-ohm pair to plug into my mixer. Broke them in gently (low volume radio 24/7 for a month). Unfortunately just another lo-fi pair of headphones, with a smeared out, dishonest sound. I remain a HiFiMan fanboy.

Disappointed

By Sweetwater Customer on February 1, 2023

Got these for Christmas, within 2 weeks the audio started bugging out and it needs to be a specific angles to hear anything.

Did not meet my expectations

By keyun clements from RANDALLSTOWN, MD on April 1, 2022

I am not pleased with this product at all. I am not a professional so I don't know all the proper terminology but I do know that I can't feel my music with theses. I've heard great things about them but maybe that's for a different style. These definitely disappointed me and I had very high hopes especially for the price

3.3mm Headphone Jack Broke Inside Computer

By Sweetwater Customer on November 27, 2021

I have only had these headphones for 4 months. The headphone jack broke off inside of my computer and now I have to get both my computer and headphones repaired. I would get my money back or a replacement if I could. Disappointing.

Garbage Cable

Be prepared to throw them in the trash when the cable breaks. It will. Cable is not replaceable.
