Wondeful
These are absolutely wonderful. It has an "open"/"spacious" quality that is hard to describe. I also have Senn HD 650s that I have been using for years, but they sound more "forward" and I think these are considerably better. They just don't seem to have a "buildup" anywhere and they are like a way more nice version of the 770s I use for tracking stuff.
I was worried because they are so expensive but my room is kinda crappy for mixing low end. Even though I already had nice headphones, I wanted the nuclear option.
It was money well-spent, no regrets.
True SOUND
I have been an audio engineer since 2011, been through many a headphone.. closed and open back and let me tell you, these 1990 Pro have the most incredible sound (and super comfy!).
I recently came from their DT 990 pro line and decided it was time for an upgrade.
The difference? 1990 has more depth. Detailed audio for mid/side mixing. 1990's low end has more oomph but not exaggerated. Still a true open back sound. The biggest thing though is depending on your mixing abilities. If you understand how to mix and reference with SPAN, then what you hear in these 1990's will translate the same way to your car stereo. Will keep these headphones for many years. Highly recommend
I didn't realize!
I've been using the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro for years and they're great headphones with a pretty flat reference sound. However, the DT 1990 Pro is an order of magnitude better. These are open back and I now realize how that helps with mixing and the clarity, holy cow! The clarity is something better than fantastic. These are very flat so if you're looking for HiFi listening and want a bass boost this isn't it. But, if you're mixing, these are business. I had no idea what I was missing.
quality
these are excellent headphones. worth the price.
