Best headphones ever designed

I've never heard a better pair of headphones in my life..

I'm taking these to the grave

By TM from California on October 17, 2023

I'm sure there are better headphones out there, but I don't care. These are so good. I've owned so many headphones over the years, lots of high-end stuff from Sennheiser, AKG, Shure, Audio-Technica, etc. These take the cake. The clarity and separation are unreal. Everything else I own sounds nasally in comparison. Build quality is second to none; even for Beyerdynamic, these are well-built. Not as heavy as I thought they'd be too, so that's great. I thought I'd be okay with just getting the open backs of these, but these ruined me, and I now need to get the closedbacks too.

Best Mixing Master Headphones Around

By Mad Dog Friedman from Colorado on January 23, 2023 Music Background: 50 years pro musician and producer

I bought the Beyerdynamic DT1990 to replace Focal Listen Pro Closed-back Reference Studio Headphones. Although the FOCALs were the flattest headphones I have heard and allowed to get my mix right in many cases, their cups were too small to enclose my big ears with their hearing aides comfortably. Also the plastic that holds the speakers on broke and left them useless. Consequently, I was attracted to the Beyerdynamics because of their the durability and big ear comfort. I actually like the 10k bump on them because of my hearing issues and have never bothered to switch to the analytic ear pads because I enjoy the sound on the ones installed. The sound is full and very enjoyable for pleasure listening, while flat enough to really hear what is going on the mix. I hear things in the mix with them that can not hear on our best studio monitors and was surprised at how well I could mix the stereo image with the headphones on. (Usually i feel the need for studio monitors for this.) When mastering, I also was able to hear subtle tone differences and could easily find the sweet spot more easily. (I do not have good studio monitors on my home mastering set up so this was life changing for me.) I totally love my 1990's, and they are well worth the money.

As good as I’d hoped!

By Pat from Ohio on December 14, 2022

These are fantastic for critical listening while mixing or mastering as well as just comfortable with great sound for enjoying your favorite songs or movies. I've never heard such a great soundstage in a set of headphones. As always Sweetwater's customer service was impeccable.

BeyerDynamic DT 1990 Pro Open Back Headphones

By Kevin Wetzel from Michigan on September 20, 2022

I have a home studio and have been using the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x for recording and they are great. I bought the 1990's for mixing and mastering and along with the Focal studio monitors I use, these cans bring a wider frequency range, more dynamic overall tonal spectrum and pull each instrument and voice into place with less color than the ATH set. I'm really happy with them and use them whenever I mix now.

A game changer for the budding producer

By Tyler Runyan from CAMDEN, MI on July 25, 2022 Music Background: Music Production Student at Full Sail University

I decided to upgrade to a decent pair of studio headphones from the Sennheiser HD 280 pro to this and will not go back! The overall comfort for longer mixing sessions is a huge plus as compared to what I was using previously. The pressure is evenly distributed around the cups and the soft velvet feels like a pillow no matter how long they are on your head. Although it lacks a tiny bit of the low end, the sound quality is fantastic to the point where you can hear the smallest details in a song or piece. I am a fan of the metal frame as it feels premium when pulled out of its shell case. I have not used the other ear pads or coiled cable but having the added options included is a nice bonus!

S-tier for personal listening

By seiken1 on May 25, 2022

beyerdynamic dt 1990 pro review.

premium build. doesn't weigh a lot, despite its metallic construction. secure clamp force but not too tight. using balanced pads only. (it comes with two. the second are analytical pads for a more neutral sound.) the dt 1990 is comfy and good for long listening.

sound is detailed on all fronts. it has punchy bass for an open back and i really like that. mids are recessed a little (compared to something more mid-range forward like the drop sennheiser 6xx)—but vocals are rich. there's clarity and the tone in this headphone outshines anything i've heard so far.

i've used the dt 1990 pro on a headphone amp with vinyl, cd, and lossless streaming via tidal and the high treble people mention in reviews isn't a concern. i didn't connect it to an external DAC (yet), so the 1990's treble is fine. it can always be EQed later or paired with a tube amp if desired since it's a 250 ohm headphone. i like it in its stock form.

as an open back, music has a good balance of space. the soundstage isn't too close or wide. imaging is spot on.

the headphones are bulky, they don't fold, and the cups don't swivel wide, so they're ideal for home/studio use. not good to take on the go. at higher volumes, they leak sound like crazy due to the open design. i've used them in the office at lower volumes and the headphones can be played through the phone, ipod, laptop through a headphone jack—but they're best paired with an amp to get them to really sing.

i replaced the stock straight cable with a short third party one from amazon for something with more flexibility. the only thing i don't like is the exposed wired from the headband to the earcups, which i read has been a beyerdynamic staple from early on.

conclusion: fun, detailed, and musical. the best set i've listened to and perfect for causal and critical listening. to top performance at this level, i assume you'd have to go higher than $, but in the $ to $ range, this is straight up king.

Exceeded All Expectations

By Jose Tamez from Houston, TX on May 24, 2022 Music Background: Professional drummer and Home Theater Fanatic

Well, now I have set of cans that I'll be listening to all of my Hi-Res music from now on. I couldn't wait to get these, albeit the demos, and hook them up to my Dune and pop-in many of my DVD-Audio and SACD's, not to mention many of the DSD's I have on tap on my Dune hard drives. Man, they bring life to my music hearing nuances and details I've not heard before. As I write this, I'm listening to REM and that mandolin picking, the claps during the song in 24/192000, in all it's glory. Of course the outrageous DAC in my Dune doesn't hurt either. As always, Sweetwater came thru and delivered within a couple of days and the phones were nicely packed, along with my candy. Sweet!

Unrivaled detail for the price

By Geordon Sauppe from Forest, VA on January 7, 2022 Music Background: Mixing Engineer-In-Training

I bought these as an upgrade to my Sennheiser 6XX's which were my daily drivers at the time. Within ten seconds of listening, I knew the 1990 Pro's were worth every cent and a more-than-worthy upgrade. I had legitimately never heard such clarity and detail in a pair of cans before (particularly in the treble - the extension is just unbelievable!); it was like an awakening, and I instantly fell in love with these things. The high end can be a tiny bit harsh/overpronounced on certain mixes, but I never found it to be fatiguing, necessarily. I'm sure a quality tube amp would solve that under normal listening conditions, anyway.

I still can't get over the look and feel of these things, either. They're simply one of the most gorgeous, meticulously designed, and well-built headphones out there: beautiful to look at and built like a tank while remaining reasonably lightweight and very comfortable for long sessions. Speaking of comfort, I recommend slapping a pair of Dekoni Elite Velour earpads to elevate comfort.

In short, these are best-in-class, period. Pair them with SoundID Reference and CanOpener for pure magic.

The new Beyerdynamic King

By Pablo from NC on January 6, 2022

I have a small collection of high headphones and this is one of my favorites. With the disappointing changes that Beyerdynamic did to the T1 3rd generation, these cans are the best from Beyer. Do not hesitate buying them, just make sure you connect them to a decent amp/dac. They are very easy to power them. I have them plugged in to my Macbook pro and an Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt (blue). Sweetwater customer service was outstanding by the way.

I went for these after watching " In The Mix " a YouTube channel run by Michael. And this guy wasn't wrong trust me. In this price range these are awesome. So easy on the ears, comfortable and the sound is unbelievable. You can mix on these eyes closed.

Amazing Detail

By Steve Z from Boston, MA on November 15, 2021

The detail on these cans is nothing short of amazing. I have the DT 770 and DT 880 cans, and they're good, but really don't come close to the detail of the 1990's.

The 1990's come with 2 sets of ear pads: "balanced" and "Analytical". "Balanced" has a bit more low-end and slightly less detail, while the "Analytical" pads make things pretty flat and detailed across the spectrum.

Word of Caution: The ear pads do not swap easily. They have a plastic/vinyl gasket (for lack of a better term) that is attached to the pad and must be pulled off the ear piece. To get the pad on, the gasket needs to slide into a groove on the ear piece, and that's where the issue is. I don't think the gasket will hold up well if changed more than a couple of times. In my opinion, this is a pretty big design flaw. I use these for mixing, so I'll probably just stick with the analytical pads and not risk any damage.

Finally.

By Mikey B from New Mexico on August 31, 2021 Music Background: Music pays my bills

I've had these for a little over a year now and I can honestly say they are the best set of cans I've ever owned. Senn 58x and HD 600's are both great, love my Avantone Planars too, but time after time these are the ones I grab. Critical listening, casual listening, mixing, mastering, hell, even just watching movies with a soundtrack I wanna dig into... There's nothing I've found to throw at 'em these headphones don't excel at.

Having said that, mine aren't exactly stock. After reading a lot of reviews I got some Dakoni replacement pads which really tamed the 8k spike and are wicked comfortable. That one mod really took them from good but kind of bright to astounding.

Clarity and power for days. When I'm mixing and I A/B them against my studio monitors (Kali 6.5's, thanks Jared!) eq'ing is consistent. Airy, thick, midrange clarity, natural soundstage.

If you're on the fence, just get 'em. Build quality is exceptional, sound is impeccable. Seriously can't imagine anyone being disappointed by these headphones.

Fantastic! Totally worth it!

By Avahara on August 30, 2021

One of the best gear purchases I've made - these headphones sound phenomenal, are incredibly comfortable, and with smart features like detachable audio cords and swappable ear rings, an excellent value. I've previously used the closed-back DT700 Pro headphones, then the open-back DT-990 Pro headphones, and now these. The others are good, but this pair is tops. Beyerdynamic brings the quality and know-how to headphones. When you realize that you will likely be using these for multiple hours a day, for multiple uses, probably for a few years, the price becomes secondary because the benefits and enjoyment will more than pay you back. Like all great headphones, astonishing details arise from songs you thought you knew, but perhaps rarer, mixes done on these headphones really hold up. My Apollo Twin X drives these very nicely, but I've also used these for long playlist listening sessions off my iPhone and they still sound very good. These are also supremely comfortable headphones - a real joy to wear.

PURE AND SIMPLE

Excellent headphones

By Tom Buckland on March 26, 2021 Music Background: Over 40 years in audio engineering

I am primarily a mixing and mastering engineer. From the moment I put them on and began listening tests with many genres of music I was amazed at the clarity and definition. I was hearing things in songs, that I was very familiar with, that I had never heard before. They are really honest in their reproduction across the frequency spectrum. Fantastic mid priced professional headphones.

If you've been on the fence about these, hop off

By Sweetwater Customer on March 24, 2021

Even when being driven with a basic beginner amp (JDS Labs Atom), these have such space and clarity. The first time I tried them out, I was blown away. Then the second time, the third time, etc. etc. I keep discovering new things about songs I've been listening to my entire life. They're excellent for both mixing and casual listening. Expectedly, they don't boom like a closed back, but the bass and midrange are still very present, and very detailed. Comfort-wise, I am a big fan of these. They are on the heavier side when you compare them to other headphones on paper, but I honestly don't feel it. (Until I am getting into several hours of wear, when even much lighter phones would be driving me nuts.) I have pretty small ears, which do a poor job of holding headphones up to relieve the top of my head, but I inexplicably just don't seem to have that problem here. Overall, these things are excellent. I can't recommend enough, especially at the price Sweetwater is offering them. I've had mine for a little over a year now, and am still totally in love with them.

Just what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer on January 30, 2021

Mixing music in an apartment means I need headphones of this quality for monitors. It's been a long time since I set foot in recording studios but these remind me of such experiences. They don't make your music sound great until you've made it sound great, that's the idea. I have no other phones of this quality so I can only say these are working for me in a situation where phones 1/3 the price were not. I found them comfortable right from the start even though I wear glasses on my extra large head. The ear pads seem a good balance of comfort and durability. Cord attachment is secure and stabile. All parts seem made to last. They don't feel too heavy even though the specs don't put them among the lightweights. By the way I notice some reviews of headphones complain of what seems to me is ear fatique. From my experience ear fatigue comes from 3 hours of attentive listening even without headphones or loud monitoring. I was told long ago that's why studios schedule sessions in 3 hour blocks.

These things are great!

By Igor Tsigelman from NY on January 30, 2021

What can I say, this purchase was an upgrade from the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm (a decent pair of headphones in their own rite). Going from closed to open back headphones was a little bit of a concern, however I think it was the best decision I could have made. These things rock. You just know when something sounds bad, and that's good, as it allows you to focus on what needs fixing to make the mix sound better; and these definitely do the trick. Well worth the money!

Great detail, great soundstage, very solid mid range and bass

By Graham Wolfe from Rochester, NY on January 19, 2021 Music Background: Producer, Mixing and Mastering engineer

I upgraded to these from the 990's and at first I didn't think it was that much of a significant upgrade. They felt foggy to me at first, particularly in the high mid range compared to the 990s. But, as always with headphones, you have to live with them for a bit to know if they work for you or not. After a week of living with them, I switched back to the 990s and was genuinely surprised. The 990s felt weak and thin, the details were harder to perceive, and the sound stage on them felt very linear and not round and engulfing like the 1990s. I did not like the pads they cam installed with, but they come with a 2nd pair of "analytical pads" which made a huge difference for the better.

After living with these now for about 3 weeks, I gotta say I'm impressed, they grow on me more every day, and they are changing my work for the better in both mixing and mastering. I think the thing I noticed first was how much more rich the sound stage is on these. It feels like instruments are placed around you at different distances, whereas the 990s felt like everything was placed in one row in front of you.

The high end on these is similar to the 990s but without the harshness/brittleness. The mid range is seriously impressive, and I feel like I am discovering new worlds of detail in there that I didn't know existed. The low end is no longer a mystery, it's very responsive and tight, I always thought kick drums were tricky to dial in until I got these. They are a bit louder than the 990s even though they are also 250ohm, probably due to the higher efficiency drivers.

Overall, fantastic cans, worth giving a try at least if you're trying to get your first pair of high end headphones.

Detail! Detail! Detail! with Extension!

By Chad Ellis Franklin on August 17, 2020

Wow, the DT 1990 Pro has surpassed all expectations. This was an upgrade for me (coming from the Sennheiser HD58X) and I am very happy with my purchase. I won't bore you with a bunch of audiophile stuff, but I will say that these bring out a lot of detail and extend well into the highs and lows. My only complaint is the blinding highs that I have to fix via EQ. I know it is designed that way for older listeners who lose hearing in the higher frequencies, but I (19) couldn't bear those highs for long listening sessions without toning them down a little with EQ.

Great for the price,

By daniel noriega from Encino, CA on May 3, 2020 Music Background: Sound Design

This was totally worth the wait. If you need something good, not too expensive and great sounding. Came perfect in the box and everything feels like $500

But I think these are Semi-Open.

P.S. It took me a while to adapt to these headphones. My ears were not used to the clarity and separation. I was using other headphones(Sony) and compared the sound of the two. I cant believe I wasn't using the DT1990 before.

I know mixing in headphones isn"t the most ideal but neither is running my family out of my house mixing on monitors. These headphones are a great compromise. I"ve never heard such great detail and such a full sound through headphones. I watched a lot of reviews and I can tell you that I"ve noticed no sibilance. I have noticed things in songs I"ve listened to for years that I"ve never noticed before like extra tracks of guitars that I didn"t know where present on many songs.
Very good headphones that are great for mixing on.

I can now hear everything down to the sub lower registers. If your own the fence about these, just grab a pair! I don"t think you"ll be disappointed

Accurate. Comfortable. Durable. Revealing.

By MM from NYC on August 6, 2018 Music Background: Musician, Producer, Engineer, DJ

I spent months reading reviews endlessly everywhere online, finally deciding on the DT 1990's. I've been an AKG guy for 20 years, but wanted to try something different; mainly due to the fact that AKG is now owned by Harmon Kardon and manufactured in China. Not that great things can't be made there, but I didn't want to take any chances with new manufacturing practices/company. Everything I read about these cans is true. They are accurate, uncolored, built to last, and are the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried. Making critical decisions is a breeze as I'm hearing exactly whats happening. My room is treated, but checking everything on the DT 1990's is a game changer for me. They've helped me achieve better mixes quicker and are so much fun to use. Most people listen to music on headphones, so I figured I needed a proper set of cans to cater to the masses as well.

Loving these monsters!

Working late had to look down a few times and make sure the studio monitors & sub where not on forgetting these are on!

Using the headphone amps that is built in the Drawmer MC3.1 monitor controller.

Read other reviews about complaints of the strait cable staying coiled from shipping not laying flat. Simply pulling the cable through your hand as if you are cleaning it holding with some pressure removes the coils with about 3 or 4 passes.

Love how they look, sound and feel!
Reminds me of a high end motorcycle helmet you can wear all day vs a cheap one that will make your head hurt in 20 min.

Will definitely be making better mix decisions getting things "right" quicker!

Yes!

By Michael from Georgia on January 12, 2018 Music Background: Semi-professional home studio/Recording Artist

I've tried numerous other open-back headphones, including the Shure SRH-1540's - which are fine, can't really say anything "bad" about them - but none of them can match the balance, comfort and aesthetics of these DT 1990's. These come with two different sets of pads ("balanced" and "analytical") that are meant to alter the tonal characteristics depending on what you prefer - brilliant! They also come with two different cables (coiled and straight) - What else do you want? They nailed the bass, mids, and highs - I don't feel like anything is hyped, yet they are exciting to listen to whereas the Shure's were a tad boring and lifeless - these let you feel the dynamics more without being hyped. Now i use the DT 770's for tracking, and I feel confident using these DT1990's for mixing decisions as well as just listening to my favorite records. Make sure you have a good headphone amp on your interface though - they need some juice!

Greatest! BEYERDYNAMIC DT- 1990 PRO

By Greg from New Hampshire on January 5, 2018

The BEYERDYNAMIC DT-1990 PRO is a very good headphone. It is interesting to note that BEYERDYNAMIC , a German company, was the first to manufacture a Hi-Fi headphone in 1937. It was the DT-48.( I have a pair of DT-48s in 200 Ohms that were made in the 1970's. They still sound fantastic!) The new DT-1990 PRO is a wonderful sounding headphone that is comfortable to wear. The DT-1990s can reproduce all frequencies and are very good at percussion sounds. They are beautifully made. I love these BEYERDYNAMIC headphones!

I was looking for a great pair of Open-back phones to give a good additional reference for mixing my music. This set of phones is a great asset to have. They are well built and you can tell they are going to last. Little bit heavier than most but rather have the durability than shaving a few ounces off. Two detachable cables are great sound quality is excellent and neutral which is what I wanted. Big thumbs up to Norb Berninger and Sweetwater staff his advise on gear has never disappointed, I refuse to shop elsewhere.

Lifetime Investment

By Robert Lapp from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee on June 18, 2017 Music Background: Music Production

I love these headphones. There are not headphones available that tick all the boxes for me as do these. The balanced pads are the ones I prefer for a flat frequency response. My studio monitors are very flat, and in the past when I would take my headphones off, my ears would need time to acclimate back to my monitors but not anymore. These headphones offer a true representation of the sound.

At first, I anticipated being wowed and dazzled but realized these are just honest. If there is texture and detail they will deliver. If there is not, they won't, and I have grown to appreciate that.

When you get them they will be firm-fitting, but they do loosen up in time and become very comfortable.
...and being that every piece is on these headphones is replaceable, they will certainly outlive my ears.

Worth Every Penny

Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro - 250 Ohms

By Nishan Leen Muthukuda from BROOKINGS, SD on February 1, 2023 Music Background: Mixing & Mastering Engineer

DT 1990 Pro 250 Ohms is killer Headphone. it really suits for mixing & mastering purposes but you need to understand it first. I used DT 990 Pro 250 ohms for more than 6 years and I did some really good mixes with them. I mainly use Genelec 8040b and Yamaha HS8m but I really love to mix on headphones and check on monitors time to time. I noticed that DT 990 lacks some low end - sub low but DT 1990 excelled in that range. pretty impressive for a open back design. I use DT 1990 with my antelope orion studio, the details it give is exceptional but it has little distortion in higher volumes. but fairly medium levels its super clean and awesome. most people find DT 990 is so harsh - yes but if you understand you can use that to spot high frequency problems very early in a mix. on the other hand DT 1990 isn't harsh like that but it adds a highs character which I heard on many beyerdynamic products. it does not damage the timbre or the character of an instrument but it makes the headphone highly detailed. trust me if you have a good headphone amp DT1990 pro s can spot many imperfections in recordings. its very 3D so you can hear the reverb tails and delays more and in an analytical manner. I recommend this to everyone who has a critical listening taste. but for enjoying purpose i recommend HIFIMAN SUNDARA or Focal Listen Pro (close back).

Amazing pair of headphones

By GoozBurger from CA on October 26, 2022 Music Background: Mix Mastering engineer

If you are looking for a flat pair of headphones these are not it. However I have never experienced this type of instrument separation in any other audio source including monitors. There's something magical about them. I would not recommend these for general listening as they are a bit top heavy, but they are great at pointing out flaws in a mix and have good enough low end response to mix bass. The only issue I had was the wire sticking out on the side is a poor design choice and the plastic that it is attach to WILL break. It won't effect the sound but it is annoying for a pair of headphones at this price. Replacement parts are available online.

well worth the money

By Snaeke Fidel on August 10, 2022

Beyerdynamic has outdone themselves with these headphones.
I will say that frequencies around 7000 - 8000 hertz were just a little bit too bright for my personal taste,
however this was an easy fix with an equalizer (I would give it 5 full stars if it wasn't for that tiny problem).

they are SO comfy; they feel like a cloud with just the right amount of clamping force.

if you get these, you wont be disappointed

I have worked with the 990's for a while and I still like them. However there are several updates with the 1990's that I want to bring to your attention.
1. They have a gold jack that has a 3 pin connector to the headphones unlike the 990's which is just fixed into the headphones. So if you ever need to replace the cable, with the 990's you can. The 1990's also include a straight and coiled cable so depending on your choice, you can use either one.
2. The construction is very good and solid on the 1990's and comfortable for a long period of time.
3. You have the choice between two pads. The fun ones which have a little more bass similar to the 990's or the analytical pads which has good bass but just not as emphasized. I recommend going to youtube and do a search on replacing the earpads on the Beyerdynamics. There is a open slot on the top of the headphones you have to start with on putting new pads on and then turning.
4. The mid's are more forward than the 990's so you can hear the details of the busy section of the music better.
5. The high's are boosted at 8k and they sound too bright at first. Play loud music on them for 24 hours and will help reduce some of that brightness.
6. Tesla technology to thank for its balanced sound profile – combining high levels of efficiency with distortion-free sound reproduction across all signal levels.

These headphones costs a little more money than some of the cheaper ones... and are well worth the price of admission.

amazing references

These are the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried on, the sound is nice a clear. the only issue i had were interchanging the earpads but other than that, I love them!!

Excellent quality

By Kurt Krupitzer from Pasadena, TX on August 21, 2017

I stepped up to these from the DT990 pro 250ohm version, they definitely solve all of the shortcomings of the DT990. The bass is not muddy, mids are actually there and the treble is nice and controlled. I'd call these fun yet neutral. The soundstage IMHO was pretty wide, wider than the DT990, instrument separation was nicely done. They are however a bit smaller in the ear cup than the DT990 which barely fit me. The "B" pads which come installed on these are smaller in diameter than the "A" neutral pads but are still a hair smaller than the DT990 pads. This caused some discomfort for me over long listening or gaming sessions. Somewhat of a hotspot on the top of the head and clamping force began to become an issue too. Overall, these headphones are perfect sounding TO ME for what I DO. But, the smaller ear pads, and clamping force are a no go unfortunately. Make sure they feel comfortable in a store before ordering but you will not be dissapointed in the sound, they are leaps and bounds better than the DT990 pro 250ohm.

These Define Headphones!

By Mark Corrigan from Phoenix, AZ on May 24, 2017

Replaced a set of DT880 (600 ohm) with these. I thought the DT880's were great (and they really are), the 1990's are truly a step above.

Great mid-range, controlled bass (not overly "bassy"), highs are typical Beyerdynamic highs.

Build quality is excellent, no flaws, and the looks are really stunning.

Clamping pressure is a little more than the DT880's, and take a little getting used to at first. The only disappointment is the pads that came with these headphones... the analytical pads are truly that, very detailed, low bass, and a little harder than I think they should be. The other included set lets a little more bass come through, and are the ones that I prefer.

However, both sets of ear pads are much harder than the one's that came standard on my DT880's. In all honesty, the DT880's are fractionally more comfortable than these due to the softer pads, and less clamp pressure on the head band.

I've only used the 1990's for about 12 hours (total) so far, but I really like the details and sound stage. I'm sure after a lot more "burn-in" that these will open up quite a bit more.

I'm glad I bought these, and have found detail in FLAC files and vinyl that I was missing before.

Great Monitoring Cans

By Mike Ralston from Lansing on December 23, 2016 Music Background: Musician and Audiophile

These compare really well to any other monitoring headphone. If you don't like the open back and lack of sound isolation, then I recommend going for the DT-1770 or another closed back headphone. Accurate for vocals, percussion, brass, and strings, and compares very well against other high-end headphones. As an owner of Audeze's, Sennheiser's, other Beyerdynamic headphones, and even a few pairs of STAX, I have to say I'm very impressed with these as far as listening to music. Great for studio use as well, really an amazing headphone for the price. And, the addition of detachable cables, multiple ear-pads for different sound characteristics, and a hard-shell case for carrying all of the above, along with the headphones make this a great buy, at any price. They sound better than the Beyerdynamic T1's in my honest opinion, with a pleasing and neutral sound character, and the wealth of accessories, high quality build, and overall beauty of this headphone make it a fantastic choice for anyone.

Nicely comfortable and nicely accurate

By Sweetwater Customer on May 18, 2023 Music Background: Amateur live sound and recording

These headphones are very comfortable. Probably the most comfortable that I have personally ever used. I use these headphones partially for listening to jazz while I work, and for doing a little amateur production work recording a children's choir. Great sound, even when I do some mixing of small bands I've recorded, I can hear the nuances of compression and surgical EQ clearly.

I will say that I'd recommend an amp or some device with a decide quality headphone amp built in.

Very shrill

By Steve from Indiana on July 11, 2020

The top end is extremely hyped. Honestly, it hurts. These play well with Sonarworks but I wouldn't mix through them without software correction. Yikes. Everything else is amazing once the treble has been tamed. The accuracy of the sub bass is what sold me.

AKG 712 Pro is Better

By Reza Assadpour from IRAN on December 4, 2021 Music Background: Record Producer

For high impedance headphones, amp headphones are expensive. While AKG 712 Pro headphones with 62 ohm capsule can be easily driven. The playback quality in both is excellent for serious work.
