Gibson 70s Flying V Electric Guitar - Classic White Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Classic White

The Gibson ’70s Flying V electric guitar re-creates the radical axe that inspired legions of hard-hitting pointy guitars. This Flying V delivers scorching rock tones and near-endless sustain, and the comfortable contour of its resonant mahogany body makes you want to play all night long. Wrapping your hand around the Flying V’s rosewood-capped SlimTaper neck invites breakneck fretboard pyrotechnics. Your riffs and leads will be infused with classic tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs, courtesy of a pair of handwired ’70s Tribute Burstbucker pickups. To top it off, small touches like a matching headstock, silver reflector knobs, and chrome hardware give this solidbody electric guitar an arena-ready look. Whether you’re looking to add a little attitude to your collection or simply want a high-class heavy metal axe, you’ll love this Gibson ’70s Flying V in Classic White.

Flying v

By Butch G. from Arizona
Music Background: Country, Classic rock and blues.

Flying Vs not for everyone.. but I love them over the years I've owned over 12 of them. The best I ever owned I got in 1998..played it for years best neck and pickup sound of any.. but having gransons who play and beg me out of them, I gave them up..however I feel it's time to get another one..and this is it. If you aren't familiar with them they can feel a little weird but once you get used to them you love them. I'm looking forward to the delivery and will be putting it in the lineup on the road. My band gigs alot and we're booked into next year so if you catch us in Arizona New Mexico or Nevada you'll see it on stage.

Wow

By D J. from USA
Music Background: 19 yrs as a hobby

I'm going to get right to the Initial impression of this guitar. Extremely lightweight but it's obviously a very high-end, well made precision instrument.
It's actually LEVELED by weight unlike most V shaped guitars this is straight across or however you adjust it to be.
The setup is perfect and I do get the pro setups from SW and they have gotten everything exactly as I like it.
It is fast and simple, with great tuning
I'm one of the very picky pickup people. I may put these in another guitar and get one's I think will work best to fit my playing style. Obviously we'll all have opinions about each thing but I do need this is a great purchase and a very welcome addition to my collection.
Thank you Alan Moon for always being there for me and I sincerely appreciate that. Thank you to the workshop and the people who setup my purchases. Everything is EXACTLY as we discussed prior to it arriving.
This one really does have the hardshell case, which is a debatable subject with my SG that said it was a HSC and might be under Gibsons newer products but it's a glorified gig bag (a very nice one) There's no way I'd travel with the SG case but the V has TSA locks and a lot of space.
There's a lot of items in the case, other than the ones that were separate. I believe it was the leather Gibson strap, and it arrived in a USA CUSTOM SHOP BOX, and I honestly didn't know it is a Custom Shop item but it definitely was in the original box and it is a real one. 10 stars for the fastest neck, consistent tuning, and the look of it is so classic that only playing it is better than staring at it! I'm getting the PRS DUSY WARING today and if anyone wants to tell me about that I'd love to hear it. I do read every review before buying one over 1500. I don't remember reading one negative review anywhere about the 70 V. If you're a Gibson person and you don't have this one, you should!!! I will probably change the pickups but that's a very personal choice that I doubt 80% of people who buy it would do. Thank you again, Alan and the people in the shop making me very happy with unboxing my purchases. Alan, I'm sure you see the part about the PRS so you will be hearing from me by Monday if i don't buy it later tonight.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE AND I am positive all of my reviews are screened because I don't hold back If I'm not happy with a larger amount spent. It's worth every cent and now it's the one that every guitar after it must live up to or I'll find something else that does. BTW, this is the only V I can play without hitting a wall or ceiling fan because of the size and balance problems pretty much every other one has. Go put an ESP Alexi on your shoulders and you will understand what mean. This is scaled and balanced better than several other types I've got that were as much or more.

Typical modern Gibson problems

By Maksym N. from Redwood City, CA

Pros:
- Iconic look
- Amazing pearl-like paint color
- Extremely lightweight
- Mind-blowing sound
- The best neck I saw in my life ever, 3/64-2/64 action without dead notes and frets buzz!!!

Cons:
- The finish is extremely fragile, I easily chipped off a corner dropping a tiny flashlight
- Just after three (3 !!!) weeks the paint started to wear out (please see the attached photo)
- The strings are misaligned (please see the attached photo)
- Almost all of them have misaligned tuners.

I spent several months searching for a well made guitar with perfectly aligned strings and almost all of them have minor problems, as misaligned strings or tuners, so I finished buying from Sweetwater.
Also keep in mind that even the Sweetwater's guitar gallery shows the guitar strings aligned, it may be not, as in my case. Sweetwater answered that 'the photo from the gallery looks straight because the photo has some angle'. Well, yes, that's what the gallery for, to know what are you buying and do not have surprises

This Flying V flies high!

By Jack W.

I just got it, and it's awesome! I have over 10 different guitars, including the Gibson Explorer, but this thing stands out from the rest. I have wanted this guitar since day one, from several different musical artists such as Metallica, and Jimi Hendrix. At first I thought it would be like any other guitar and just be about flash, but now that I have seen it in person, this guitar is the one!
