Excellent
I use the red channel with my Strat and a MXR compressor. Amazing sound and endless sustain. Perfect setup for Hendrix like tones. Glad I did not buy a bigger head. I actually need to run this one at the reduced .1 watts to get the sounds I need at a very low volume. Even the regular 1 watt setting was way too loud for my home. Don't bother with the green channel. Not what this amp is made for. I use a Vox AC15 for amazing clean tones.
Perfect
I'm reviewing the Bundle specifically. I like jazz and blues and had read about shrill-sounding, low headroom, fizzy sounds. I've only had the amp/cap for 24 hours but I can say this is all nonsense. I was looking for a tube amp for apartment-friendly practice that could do things at low volume my Bassman can't. I'm finding that I only need the 0.1 watt setting for practice volumes that can still annoy my wife. The cleans are good enough at 0.1 w (turning down the volume a few notches on the guitar helps without much change in volume), but if I want really super clean, I can simply go to 1 watt. Switching been Classic and Ultra gain is very convenient by foot switch. I only dial in crunch on the Ultra gain side for blues. I picked the warmer Tone shift side for a clean hum bucker jazz tone. This amp does not have the clean headroom for gigging at high volumes (enough to annoy neighbors), but it is perfect for a living room jam at apartment-friendly low volumes. I like having the option of the effects loop, but have no need for other effects at this time. All in all, this was exactly what I was looking for.
I am satisfied
I am delighted with this kit. It sounds great. You will be surprised how loud or quiet it can be. You get what you expect from Marshall.
Shrill and Tinny
I've had this for 2 weeks now, and I had a tough time getting a decent sound out of it until today. Unfortunately, that called for swapping the speaker out of the cabinet. The Celestion 70/80 is not a good speaker. At all. It's shrill, ice-picky, and tinny. It really does this head a disservice. I ordered a Red Coat Governor to replace it with and it made all the difference in the world. The head really came to life and I was able to get several good sounds out of it. On both channels, with and without pedals. the 1/10th watt setting is a little fuzzy on the overdrive channel but I think that is to be expected. I give the head a 5 star rating, and the cabinet a 2 star. The cabinet is well made. IMO, buy the head, and get an empty cabinet somewhere and put your own speaker in it.
