Incredible snare drum
Hard not to like this beast of a snare. The size, the weight, the hardware quality, and the finish. This snare sounds great right out of the box and has a great modern snare sound. I've used it for a gig already and it worked out incredibly well. The DW hardware is excellent and beefy. Great modern looking drum. Well worth the price!
Straight out of the box
This thing is a little piece of amazing. Ghost notes, rim shots, everything speaks beautifully and distinctly. And solid to boot.
4 Years Later, Still Fantastic
This is great if you are looking for a great kick in your snare! My only complaint is that it is not the best snare for small venues, but after a couple months, I learned how to adapt my playing to get the sound I am looking for. Four years later, this drum still holds up super well and it still sounds fantastic. It sounds great with any head combination and has been an absolute TANK! My personal recommendation for a top head would be a Remo Controlled Sound coated.
Excellent Snare Drum
I bought this snare a few years ago and thought I'd write a review since I've used it on gigs & recordings over the past couple of years. I play Ludwig drums and have several Ludwig snares, but I tested this drum in a local store and really liked the sound and feel of the drum. Generally speaking, I think DW drums are priced very high, but this drum is reasonably priced and you get a lot of snare drum for the money. It's solid as a rock and it sounds bright, crisp and loud. I like the three-way snare strainer and the magnetic throw-off is great.
This is the real deal
The price is right, and the snare is great. the tuning range is incredible, and it takes just a minute in each room to tune it to the room. This is my go to snare for gigs. I also have a DW collectors edge snare, and while that one is a collectors item and doesn't leave the house, the nickel over brass sounds every bit as good. I set the two up side by side, and this drum matched the tuning of the edge turn by turn. Unless you just prefer wood, buy this!

Great sounding, great looking snare very pleased
Amazing...
My studio partner purchased one of these DW Custom models to add to our 20+/- year old DW Custom maple kit, and we immediately put it to work on a rock project.
This drum tracked amazingly well in the studio. Great fullness and attack. Although our studio is not known for drums, this snare has up'd our game and provided us some excitement. This is the first time I've tracked a snare - in the context of the overall drum mix - and didn't in the least feel tempted to do a replacement or addition.
This snare is solid! It's a heavy drum, but rightfully so. This snare possesses a great blend of body, attack, and overall fullness.
I only left off half-a-star because I'm not a drummer, and time will reveal it's durability and functionality (snare mechanism, tuning keys, etc.) I'm reviewing based strictly on results from here in the studio. I'm supremely confident in this drum and DW products. Love the sound, even with the stock DW heads.
Great snare
I've only had the snare a few days, but it's living up to the DW hype. I really enjoy the toggle. I need to dial it in to the sound I want, but the tightening mechanism is smooth and allows for nice micro adjustments. It really compliments my new DW Performance series kit.
