If a Radio King and a Dynasonic had a baby...
A few weeks back I purchased a DW Supersonic snare drum, I'm blown away by it. It has great sensitivity due to the snare bridge, but also the amazing crack and powerful rimshot that is the signature of a good solid maple snare drum.
The Sweetwater box showed up as I was loading my car for a gig. I took the drum out of the box, threw it in a case and took it to the gig. I had my DW/Craviotto snare there as well. I figured that I'd use it as a backup, but for the heck of it I threw it on a stand and gave it a shot. I tuned it and put half of a "moongel" on it and it was "perfect". The DW/Craviotto ended up staying in it's case all night.
I own Slingerland Radio Kings of two different eras, a Slingerland single ply Artist, a Noble and Cooley SS Classic, a DW Solid Shell, a DW Super Solid, the aforementioned DW/Craviotto, and a Gretsch Stanton Moore Signature. It's fair to say that I'm pretty familiar with the attributes of single ply maple snare drums, and appreciate what they can do. I also have owned a Rogers Dynasonic for many years, I've always liked a snare drum with a snare bridge.
This drum is an absolute winner. I think that it is destined to be an iconic drum that will build a big following. If you play one, you too will believe!
