Humbucking Electric Guitar Pickup, Neck - Cream

The DiMarzio PAF 59 humbucking electric guitar pickup is all about nailing that vintage humbucker tone. With a design based on the tone of Larry DiMarzio's own '59 Les Paul's pickups, the PAF 59 is engineered to pour on the cream. Sweetwater players love how its 42 AWG undipped, scatter-wound enamel wire coils re-create the creamy distortion of a vintage PAF 'bucker in the neck position. It also has Double Cream butyrate bobbins on a long-leg nickel/silver base plate — just like the originals. Double Creamy

I'm using this in a bright guitars neck spot (25.5" scale length 24 fret Warmoth Superstrat). It definitely put more soul and character back into this thing. With my rig it does great with the tone knob left wide open, and it goes from clean to blues to full on distortion without having to adjust anything. Just a great sounding pickup that just works great, sometimes it has feedback because it's not potted, but I've got a noise gate and I also ride the volume knob. It's a pure, vintage sounding, woody, etc. etc. pickup. I love the way it sounds and the double cream look.

The Real Deal

Dimarzio has always made some really good pickups and had some great ideas that were groundbreaking but anything they labeled PAF was just sort of in the ballpark and that's it. Don't get me wrong their PAF vintage level stuff sounds really good just nothing like real Patent Applied For pickups from the late 50s early 60s.The PAF 36th was cool but just a remarketed Virtual Vintage which is an awesome pickup but still sounds nothing like a true vintage to me.
Now for the first time Dimarzio enters into the boutique area that has become more and more popular and they just go right to the front of the class in a surprise move. These pickups sound so real in a Les Paul that if someone told me these were real Patent Applied For from a vintage Les Paul I would believe it. You will not find a closer over the counter pickup nor a better deal on one. I am done looking.
The real test of any Patent Applied For replica is the neck model. I have tested many, the Slash, the 57 Classic etc. They are always either to muddy or to bright, now the PAF 59 has a guaranteed perfect neck PAF sound every time you open the box. These in a Les Paul 50s hand wired with Luxe Bumblebees and you have the sound of yesterday in your hands today.
