I'm using this pickup in the neck of a PRS SE Custom 24 paired with a DiMarzio Eric Johnson signature pickup in the bridge, and it pairs with it wonderfully. It's treble is very pronounced, but it still has a fair amount of bass to it with a perfect amount of midrange (for my style and liking, anyway), making it a wonderful rhythm pickup that has a lot of voice to it and sharp response. I do a fair amount of hybrid-picking so I'm quite a fan of the balance I get from the pronounced treble verses the warmth of my fingers coupled with the response. It maintains a lot of clarity and doesn't get too muddy, and I can really accentuate my style fearlessly with this pickup activated.

The guitar is rigged to coil-split, and this pickup was almost made for it and sounds so good as a single coil! Typical for coil-splitting, you lose some volume and gain some hum, but the hum is barely there in my situation. It makes the guitar sing like a strat and can get pretty close to actually sounding like one, but still has a lot of character that differentiates. The guitar also has an upgraded circuit and has high-end pots and a high-end vintage style capacitor, and it really brings out the true voice and capability of the pickup, split or not, and gives me more control over the tone and lets me better counter the treble when I don't need as much of it.

All said, with the EJ pickup in the bridge this 36th Anniversary PAF pickup beautifully assists in making my guitar a vintage tone machine that can also go pseudo-strat at will. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for! Thanks to my upgraded circuitry, I can pretty much eliminate any cons associated to too much treble, and really enjoy this pickup to its full extent! If you too, are looking for that vintage humbucking tone, especially one that sounds great when coil-split, then look no further, you're in the right place! You pretty much can't go wrong with this pickup, especially for the price!

I like these humbuckers plenty, responsive, articulate, not muddy at all as some PAF's can get, output is great, they are nice good clear cleans with nice driven sounds as well, not too compressed, not under compressed, pretty good for me and the price is right too.. also they take pedals well too, like 7.8 to 8.3 or something? plenty of overhead on these to drive effects..

Pros: clear, near-glassy treble, smooth and articulate mids, just enough bass. Certainly low output, but not weak. Great pick attack when you want it, responds beautifully to light picking and cleans up easily with your volume pot'. A huge plus, finger picking is sweet and dynamic.

Cons: a bit honky at certain EQ settings and requires a bit of work to dial out slightly harsh treble settings while retaining string to string clarity (at least with my setup).

Overall, stellar bang for your buck that isn't a one trick pony.
