The 'Rolls-Royce' of double pedals

By Andrew H. from Klamath Falls, OR

I'm only reviewing here just to share this tip (other reviews have otherwise said it all).

When you get these, set them to the beater length and ANGLE that you love and are used to. THEN, turn the spring tension down to zero-or-close-to.

THEN, take your time playing, with different styles and techniques, and gradually, over days, increase the spring tension until you're where it's no longer "too loose" to the point of hindering, AND THEN STOP THERE--GO FORWARD FROM THERE! Play THAT setting for a couple weeks and adjust, if any needed.

I think then, and only then, will you see/hear/feel that these might be the best kick pedals currently on Earth.

But if you just go with stock settings, these pedals could take A LOT of getting used to--maybe even to the point of: "these aren't for me." But ithat would be about to the adjustment. And just a bit of time and care.

So, if you're taking the plunge for these Roll-Royces, just wanted to share this suggestion...

Amazing pedals!

By Caleb
Music Background: Hardcore/metal

I've gone through 3 pedals in the last 2 years. I am in a metal band (Motherwell) check us out on YouTube lol
Anyways, I went from the pearl eliminators to the tama speed cobras and ended up with these and I couldn't be happier. The redline eliminators and speed cobras are great pedals don't get me wrong but these trick pedals are in a whole different league. The adjustability on these pedals is great and it's easy to dial in. After playing them for just two days I was able to play the kick pattern of the song bleed by Meshuggah. Something I have wanted to play for the last 8 years was accomplished in a couple days with these pedals. Kyle Baker hooked me up with these bad boys and I will
Never choose another pedal! Just buy them you won't regret it!

Love these pedals…

By Sweetwater Customer

Love these pedals!
I had been looking at switching to a pair of long board direct drive pedals for about a year and these were well worth the wait. (They were back ordered at the time)

Nate Burkhardt placed an order for me and gave me an estimated timeframe and kept me informed of when they would be in. Thanks Nate…!

Very smooth, responsive and quiet mechanically. Pedals can operate independently as two separate pedals on two separate kicks, or with the drive shaft for double pedals on a single kick.

These things are KILLER

By Sweetwater Customer

Just got mine delivered today and they are absolutely phenomenal! Super adjustable and smooth as butter. I wasn't sure about the beaters when I ordered them and planned on changing them out but after playing with them as they came I was pleasantly surprised and don't think I will at this point. If you are worried about power loss on these pedals, don't! These pedals are top notch and worth every penny! This was also my first purchase off Sweetwater and I dealt with kyle Malone. Kyle was awesome and kept in touch with me as I had to wait for the pedals (they were back ordered at the time). But Kyle answered any questions I had and responded pretty quickly anytime I emailed him. Pedals ended up coming sooner than expected too! Pedals 10 outa 10 and sweet water customer service 10 outa 10!

Best pedals on the market!

By KC B. from Sacramento, CA
Music Background: Touring/ Session drummer

I've had my gen 1 dominators for over 10 years now. I just recently had to send them into Mike after tour because there was a pin missing, connecting the footboard to the drive link. Mike had them back to me within the weak (IL > CA) with a few extra parts. That was the ONLY time these pedals have needed repair. Technically not even repair, just a piece had popped out of place from being played constantly. Great product. I will never use another pedal.

Amazing pedal!

By Luke from PA

These pedals are legit! Ive been checking out all different types of pedals the last 6 months. I own speed cobra 310's and they are 3 years old and i had to use alot of energy to play 150+ bpm. With the dominators I could play 160 out of the box with little effort. The response on these pedals are amazing. I even bought a pair of dw9000's and took them back. Then decided on the dominators and IMO the dominators were way easier to use and customize settings. And 200 bucks cheaper!! Great pedal, dont hesitate to buy!

By Sweetwater Customer

I never write reviews; however, I had to for these pedals. Everything about these pedals are amazing!! My double bass speed jumped 15bpm the first day. Responsiveness is par non!! Made single double strokes a lot easier and over all my kick work is more solid.

Dominates the Competition

By Brandon from Chicago
Music Background: Metal/Rock/Jazz/Theater

Trick Drums USA makes some of the most innovative and highest quality products available to drummers to date. The pedals have a reputation and for good reason...these are truly upper echelon instruments. The smoothness and power are there in droves and the build quality is unbelievably robust. Pretty sure these things could survive a nuclear blast. I've played countless gigs and rehearsals and they have never failed.

It's worth mentioning that the Dominator isn't just stripped down Pro 1-V, from owning both, IMO the Dominator is much lighter feeling overall. If you are coming from an Axis or Demon Drive id recommend looking into the Dominator over the Pro 1V as the P1V is WAY heavier in feel even coupled with lighter beaters. I prefer a lighter pedal with medium weight beaters which is exactly what the Dominator delivers. Some might criticize the lack of adjustments available on the DOM but I honestly prefer having LESS options for adjustment, or to say another way, things to distract me from making endless adjustments and just playing/practicing drums. The only downside is that the Slide-Trac feature on the Pro 1-V is absolutely better than the Dominator hoop clamp.

The compression spring design will definitely take a bit of getting used to as it reacts and "pushes" against your foot in a different way than expansion spring pedals. The closest comparison would be the Tama Cobra Coil set to the maximum resistance. Most death metal and black metal drummers prefer this since coupled with high spring tension allows for incredibly fast rebound with no-play in the stroke.

If you play double bass, it behooves you to try the Trick products. The Dominator is my personal favorite in terms of features and durability for the price. Highly Recommended!

Top in every way

By Ty S.
Music Background: Full time drummer

Negative: Sometimes the screws come loose and you have to replace them.

Positives: these have micro adjustable settings in every way conceivable. They are smooth. They are balanced. They are sturdy. They take a beating. I've had mine since 2014 and I will never turn back.

Worth every penny

By shane
Music Background: Metal drummer since 1989, played in various bands from 1997-2012

These pedals are worth every penny. These are so much better than my old axis pedals and a lot easier to adjust too, i love the compression spring. These pedals are a dream to play on and i feel like everything i do on them is just easier to do, its hard to describe but i'm sure others who have played trick pedals will know what i mean. My only regret is that i never got these years ago. I also have to mention that sweetwater was great and even called me to see if i had questions and got these to me in 2 days so very impressed with them.

better than axis

By Taran

had a pair of axis a's with microtune that i used for over a year, and i enjoyed them quite a bit. however, i bought a pair of used dominator pedals and they honestly feel smoother, and are incredibly easy to adjust in comparison.

if you're debating on whether to go with axis or trick pedals, both are great choices, but i personally recommend trick.

Why not sooner...

By Tyler R. from Texas
Music Background: Metal

I wish I would've pulled the trigger on this a long time ago. This pedal is liquid smooth and highly tunable. A lot of folks swap the beaters, but I enjoy the metallic report from the stockers. I intend to upgrade this unit with the SB1 laser triggers next year, and will update the review detailing the pedals longevity. The only caveat to this monstrous piece of over-engineered equipment is that it doesn't come with a case, which I'm ordering now...

Rokand kd 9 users beware

By Sweetwater Customer

Love everything about the pedal. Top notch advice others in sok ways but if you play on roland td17kvx beware as this pedal is a pain. It doesn't fit and their system of latching is a pain. Plus the kd9 rocks a lot so the pedal doesn't stay stable. Hope they fix this.

Killer Pedal - Update 9 Years Later

By Brad F. from Dallas, TX
Music Background: Professional

I posted a review under the title "Killer Pedal!" 9 years ago on another site. Thought I'd give an update. I had the first generation Trick Dominator double pedal from 2009-2017. In those 8 years and trips around the world with them and countless shows I never had one single problem. A year ago I sold them to try and go back to Axis for a lighter feel, which I'd played prior to Trick. But my first Axis always had issues with things falling apart on them which led me to Trick the first time. History repeats. Using the Axis for less than a year, things were already breaking on them, notably the heel block pin. I'm happy to say I decided to go back to Trick and bought the current generation Dominators and am never looking back. They're still the sturdiest, smoothest, fastest pedal I've ever played, not to mentioned the most ingeniously engineered and constructed pedals. Every aspect of the pedal, from the direct drive, to the independent adjustments and compression spring to spring-loaded hoop clamp let you tweak every single thing on the pedal without leaving your throne. The point of this update though is to mention that while the first gen Dominator was amazing it had 2 DESIGN flaws. The first was that the footboard connected directly to the side rails at the heel, which means if you play heel down which I do, your heel would hit the rails. The second was that the slave drive shaft had some play in the joints. I'm happy to say both these issues are GONE on the new Dominators. They raised the heel block and the new drive shaft has zero lag. They even came up with one more improvement, by adding a center ring to accommodate the SB1 laser triggers which I'll also be using. In short, the Trick is now flawless. Get hyped.

Trick Dominator Double Pedal

By JB from Littleton, CO.
Music Background: 20 yrs. off and on.

This may have been one of the best purchases I have made. Love the smoothness of these pedals, no noticeable lag between the left and right pedal. Also love the many adjustments and tension adjustments are a breeze. The proof is in the pudding, you can't go wrong here.

Simply Amazing Pedal!

By Ryan S. from Albuquerque, NM
Music Background: Hobbyist

The Trick Drums Dominator double pedal is amazing in every way. Plays, feels and looks Amazing. I've played Yamaha chain drive pedals for years and immediately I could feel the difference with direct drive. They are incredibly fast and responsive at all tension levels which is easily adjusted. An added bonus is the fact that they are whisper quiet. The long boards are easy to play from any position, high or low, left or right, heel up or down. Everything is adjusted very easily with a key or in the case of the tension with a dial. It holds on to the drum with a spring loaded clip with rubber stoppers/bumpers and no other adjustments and doesn't move at all in my experience so far. The fact that the pedals came as two fully operational separate pedals is really awesome. The machined aluminum pieces just look incredible and every moving and stationary part looks and feels like it's built to last forever. Probably the only complaint I possibly have is that my Kevlar Remo falam slam patch has started wearing away the alloy beaters (which are really nice!) but that's no big deal, other than that I am 100% happy, satisfied and pleased with the Trick Drums Dominator! I got it for $600.00 and they are more than worth it.
