Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSS FR Electric Guitar - Infinity Blue Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Ebony Fretboard, 2 Single-coil Pickups, 1 Humbucking Pickup, and Floyd Rose Tremolo - Infinity Blue

Two guitar icons come together in the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSS FR electric guitar. The classic Jackson Dinky alder body is light in the hands and contoured against the body, while the Charvel 2-piece reinforced maple Speed Neck remains rock solid as it ages. Charvel’s familiar 12–16-inch compound-radius fingerboard flattens out nicely in the upper registers, giving technical players the speed and expression needed for bends, runs, and vibrato. What we think is really special is the DK24's diversity of tones on tap, via a trio of Seymour Duncan pickups. The bridge-position Full Shred TB-10’s searing output combines perfectly with the overwound bite of the neck- and middle-position Custom Flat Strat SSL-6 single-coils. Together, these pickups deliver everything the modern player can expect to encounter, from fusion to prog and beyond. And for maximum expressive capability with amazing tuning stability, the Pro-Mod DK24 is equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo system.

Awesome guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on March 10, 2023

Always owned Fender. This is my first Charvel. This thing blows me away. In perfect time out of the box. Stays on tune better than any guitar I've owned. Feels and sounds fantastic!

A dream guitar with one glaring flaw.

By Aidan from Asheville NC on February 3, 2023

This thing is my dream guitar. It's effortless to play, and even though the flotd rose can be a bit of a nuisance, I've never even had a Hardtail that stays in tune so well.theres a sweet spot after changing strings where I can go a whole gig or even a couple days without tuning it. And I am generous with that whammy.I will say that breaking a string on stage with a Floyd rose is an event. So bring a spare guitar or get quick with an Allen wrench and a string cutter!

I play a wide range of styles. Blues, funk, rock, metal, and this can do it all. Twangs like a strat and chugs like a les Paul and everything in between.

The fretboard and neck are fantastic. I dig the jumbo frets, and even though I'm a rosewood guy for the warm tone, the ebony shines and feels great to play. Overall, the guitar plays itself. I have some wrist issues, so these features combined with the super thin neck make this a match made in heaven.

Now for the flaw.

The super shred humbucker is awesome. The middle single coil is exactly what I want it to be... But oh boy that neck pickup drove me nuts. It sounds great, but since it's overwrapped, be warned, it is NOISEY as all heck. Even an EH hum debugger could quiet it down. My studio space is loud for pickups in general, but that overwrapped neck was nearly a deal breaker. After 6 months of trial and error and trying to deal with it, I finally caved and bought a Seymour Duncan Cool Rails pickup and put it on the neck. Sounds just like that overwrapped problem child, but a tad bit thicker, smoother, and QUIET.

I was considering selling it a couple weeks ago to get the HH version of this, but honestly I am so glad I didn't. It's perfect now. plays better than the $2k guitar I had.

Sounds great! Looks amazing!

This guitar looks and sounds awesome. Plays like butter. Just holding this Charvel, you can tell it's high quality. My salesman, Tom Maxwell, was a great help to me when making this purchase. Sweetwater has amazing customer service and I will be coming back for years to come.

Check out my quick video.

Be sure of the pickup arrangement

By Richard J Kolbasowski Jr from ROCKWELL, NC on January 12, 2023

I love the look and the sound of this guitar. It definitely is a high quality piece of equipment. However, be sure you are used to playing with this style of pickup arrangement. I was used to playing with a two double-coil humbucker pickup arrangement that left a lot of space between the pickups. I pick a little deeper than I probably should which was not an issue with the two humbucker setup. With this guitar, I find myself hitting the middle pickup constantly with my pick and am finding it difficult to change my picking habits or moving my picking location to avoid hitting the pickup. This may not be a problem for someone used to this arrangement. I'm just passing this along because it was something I did not even consider would be an issue when purchasing the guitar. I am going to try and play it like it is for a while to see if I can adapt to the new arrangement and if I cannot, I will lower the pickup even with the body even though that may make the middle pickup useless.

I like it!

I've been a fan of Charvels since working at a guitar store where we became dealers. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something else this good with these specs . That being said…this did have a high fret and I had it plek'd. After that I'd put this on par with anything….great necks.
