Aguilar DB 751 750-watt Hybrid Bass Head Reviews

750W Bass Amplifier Head with Three-band EQ, Bright and Deep Switches, Effects Loop, XLR DI Out, Tuner Out, and Footswitch Input

Armed with a monstrous 750 watts at 4 ohms, the Aguilar DB 751 bass head gives you the headroom to rule any venue. The preamp section of this beast is juiced by three 12AX7s, while 12 complimentary lateral MOSFETs drive the output. The result is fat, round, tubular tone at stadium-shaking volume. To shape all this tasty tone, the DB 751 gives you gain and master volume controls, and the exacting EQ control of a passive 3-way tone stack with active midrange, plus bright and deep switches. Tone, power, and versatility - you can have it all with the Aguilar DB 751.

Aguilar DB751

By Eric Martens from Nashville on March 9, 2023 Music Background: Nashville rock bass player.

I bought a DB750 when they first came out. I used it on hundreds of gigs over a 20 year period. My biggest mistake in life was selling it. I broke down and bought a new DB751. It is the most versatile amp for any type of show. Even though I love Ampeg SVTs and Orange AD200b's, this thing really cuts through any loud mix. You just hear every nuance of your bass, even at low volumes. They are expensive, but worth their weight in gold. Since they are a hybrid, the reliability is outstanding. I've never had any problems with the DB750 over 20 years. Once you use one live, you will never use anything else. I've had nothing but compliments from sound engineers and fans on my tone.

Tone and solid.

By Robert Sherman from Austin, TX on June 10, 2021

I love this amp. My Eden wtb 1000 sounded as good when it worked correctly. I also have an early Terror Bass 500 and a solid state Ampeg 450 SVT and the db751 sounds the best, especially cranked. Pushes the Mesa 8x10" cab just fine.

Big Tone

By Dave from Detroit on July 29, 2018

My previous 3 amps were solid state. I was looking at another amp when I said to myself that I"d spend less time and money if bit the bullet and got what I really wanted. It was a choice between the Aguilar and an SVT, and I went with the Aguilar.

The sound compared to what I previously used and thought were good amps amazed me. The sound is so even and full. Not louder but bigger, fatter. It really surprised me. It"s a heavy amp and it"s solidly constructed. I know a lot of big name players use smaller solid state amps, but after hearing this amp I believe those smaller amps sacrifice something in the downsizing.

My dream amp

By Garret Graves from Arcadia Ca on May 11, 2018

Coming from using the Tonehammer 500 for a few years to this amp (DB751), and into the same cabs, DB 112s, and recently the fantastic DB212. I"m in love with the raw power and rich tone I get from the DB751 hybrid amp. I love the ample headroom I have now, and it is so rich and thick throughout the tonal spectrum, you hear it, feel it- it"s unassailable- you have this amp and good cabs, you are set- you will be heard, and serving up some fat, lush bass tones. I love all the Aggie gear, and see myself using this amp every chance I get.

Tone King

The Best amp I have ever owned. I love the simple tone controls and they deliver the tones I really want. The only complaint I have is the weight. However, when I compare it to an Ampeg SVT, the Aguilar is much better. This amp is also way more reliable.

Wow!!!! tone and power to spare

This amp is truly everything you hear about it. Right now I am using two DB112s with it so it is putting out 750 watts! This is so powerful I can add an addition 4 ohm cab and it will put out 975 watts! The tone of this amp is impressive. I play fender jazz basses in a blues/blues rock band and I dial in a warm punchy tone but his amp can literally shake the house! I bought the aguilar head case to protect it... Boss tweed to match the cabs so it's a great vintage look! I've owned more than a dozen bass heads of the years this is the last one I will ever have to buy! The sound of my dreams!!!!

Great Amp, One of the best!

By Vicrockbass from New York on March 26, 2018

Been playing Bass for over 30 years. I have used Peavy, SVTs, GK rb800, Aguilar ag500 and Aguilar TH500. I finally gave the Aguilar DB751 a go. Great amp with what seems like unlimited power! The DB751, paired with an SL410x is the best set up I've had since my old SVT/Eden 410xlt rig. It has the same presence, heft and punch that I used to enjoy at half the weight! I wish I got the DB751 sooner. It's not lightweight (42 lbs), but definitely worth it. A big thank you to my Sweetwater sales rep Devin Cunningham!

DB751

By Basses & bulldogs from Caledonia, Wisc. on March 18, 2017

DB 751 has power to spare. Well made and sounds very good. Not too heavy. Has just what is needed. I use 6-10" and 2-12" cabinets with it and it rocks when needed. A little pricey but appears to be worth it. Also super fast delivery time was nice.

Champagne bass amp with Budweiser customer service.

By Dan W. from Indiana on February 9, 2023

I purchased this new from Sweetwater because I've always wanted one. If I was reviewing just the amp, it would be 5 stars easily. But I have to inform people, especially when buying literally the most expensive bass amplifier currently made. I had reservations since Aguilar was acquired by Korg and I had every right to have those reservations as it turns out Korg is pretty awful. Aguilar did not respond to my emails either, so I guess what used to be a great company with excellent support is no more. This all stems from missing rack ear screws. I only received 4 screws and I needed 8. I've gone back and forth with Korg over the past two weeks trying to figure out what the part is and seeing if they can just send me some replacements. They are either unwilling or unable to send me replacements so far and instead leave it to me to find the part that they didn't include in the box of a bass amplifier, once again the single most epxpensive bass amp I made currently. Just ridiculous. I just hope I never have to have the amp serviced. Once again the amp is simply magic.
