Martin D-45 Acoustic Guitar - Natural Reviews

6-string Acoustic Guitar with Spruce Top, East Indian Rosewood Back/Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Natural

The most sought-after and decorated of the Martin dreadnoughts, the flagship D-45, looks, sounds, and plays better than ever for 2018. Martin's choice of antique appointments — butterbean gold tuning knobs, hand-set abalone inlays, and an aged toner finish — give this guitar lustworthy prewar visuals. But modern advancements, including a slimmer-taper neck and bass-enhancing forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, make the latest D-45 a top performer in any hands. The top-grade spruce soundboard and East Indian rosewood body, mated by Martin's coveted dovetail neck joint, sound as rich and full as ever. And like any high-end Martin, your D-45 is sure to appreciate in tonal value with every successive strum. Get the best the Martin standard series has to offer with the new D-45 from Sweetwater.

Not only the best guitar I have ever owned, it is the best guitar I have ever played.

By Phillip Hall from Centerville, OH on October 17, 2023

I currently own a Taylor 814CE model and also a Presentation series with a Brazilian rosewood back and sides. I also own many others as well both electric and other acoustic guitars. From the very first chord I played on this guitar I knew it was different. Perfect intonation all over the entire neck, perfect feel with the whole instrument literally resonating with each note plucked or chord played. I can't believe I waited this long to get this beautiful guitar. My friend had a D 42 when we were in our teens and I remember how special it was somehow I ended up following the Taylor line for my whole life. This is my dream guitar. Thanks Sweetwater and Brian Loney. I am truly grateful and thanks Martin guitars!

Martin D-45 -- The Best Overall Guitar From Martin -- In My Opinion

By JamesCTaylor from PALM DESERT, CA on August 16, 2023 Music Background: Experienced

The Martin D-45 is a very special guitar. The attention to detail, tone-woods, playability, and sound-quality certainly represent Martin's top of the line guitar. The tone is balanced and clear with perfect nuances and overtones.

It has been suggested, that the Martin D-45 is simply a fancy HD-28 or an ornate version of other Martin guitars from the 40-series. I have found this to not be the case. There exist a clear distinction between the D-45 the others do not entail. As an owner and player of many Martin guitars, including the HD-28, J-40, and D-41, I assuredly believe the D-45 to be a notch above the others in terms of design and sound-quality.

Of all the acoustic guitars the D-45 remains my favorite. It has that wonderful Martin sound, but delivered in a way that is more musical, easier to play, and beautiful. I'm sure the new Modern Deluxe is a fine guitar. But I would recommend the original D-45 as a trusted instrument for those seeking the pure Martin tone. Also recommend keeping everything stock on this. It's fine out of the box. Use the best Martin strings on it and you're good to go.

Very highly recommended.

D-45

By Sweetwater Customer on July 25, 2023 Music Background: Playin' for Fun

I have a few Martins. 000-28 EC, D-28 and HD 28 plus and old 00-18. All of them sound different. The D-45 is just a step up from the HD-28. It is a little smoother to play, a little more clear on the treble and fuller in the bass. Of course it looks good. I play all of them with favorites for certain types of music. For the pure joy of clean finger picking the D-45 is the winner. It is not a giant improvement over the HD-28. From a strumming sort of thing the regular D-28 is just as good (it is a 1973 version) and for some of the classical sort of stuff the 00-18 is pretty hard to beat (12 fret version from 1928)

Cream of the Crop

By PJ S. on November 6, 2020

My Martin D-45 Standard Acoustic arrived yesterday, and is better than I could've ever imagined. Since 2018, Martin has hit the mark by incorporating open back, butterbean key tuners and scalloped, forward-shifted X bracing in its D-45. In particular, the bracing of this instrument allows for deep lows, pronounced mids, and crisp highs. Martin has hit the mark once again, by creating a piece of art that will last well beyond a lifetime.

I have had the pleasure of working with Carson McClain, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, for several years; throughout every stage of the process, Carson was informative, timely, and professional. As with all of our previous transactions, Carson went above and beyond to ensure this instrument was packed/shipped securely and delivered without issue. I very much look forward to our next opportunity to work together.

Thank you, Sweetwater, for helping to make this dream come true!
