Martin D-35 Johnny Cash Acoustic Guitar - Black Reviews
Johnny Cash's deep baritone voice was instantly recognizable. When he passed away in 2003, country music lost one of its original rebels. Johnny was such a rebel, in fact, that the first black Martin ever produced was built at Johnny's request behind the back of Martin's president C. F. Martin III, as he didn't want a black Martin to be built. C. F. Martin III actually didn't find out that the guitar had been built until he saw Johnny Cash play the black Martin on "Columbo." The D-35 was Johnny's favorite axe, and it accompanied him onstage for nearly 20 years.

Best acoustic.
I'll start by saying that I have owned Gibson and Taylor Acoustics. Never had a Martin. I was looking for something black, that would be likely to appreciate over time. I've always been a Johnny Cash fan so I pulled the trigger on this one. It's amazing. The craftsmanship is 2nd to none, and the guitar plays like a dream. Zero regrets on the purchase and I've been playing it non-stop. Leaves me wondering if all Martins play and sound this great.
A fine guitar
I have had my JC D-35 for a few years now, it captured me one day as I was trying every acoustic in a boutique guitar shop, never heard such a beautiful sound. I have owned too many acoustic guitars to remember, bought my first Martin in 1963, played acoustic guitar for a living for 20 years, so my ears have heard some things. This guitar sounds more like a piano that a guitar, richest tones imaginable. Only downside is no electric pickup, I am a performing musician and need that, but no problem, a high quality system installed and it sounds killer plugged in. Wherever I go, especially to jams with other acoustic musicians, this guitar turns heads. The tone is what you dream of but can never find. Rich bass, perfect mids, sweet treble, just perfect. This is a treasure, if you can possibly do it, do it, this is the one.
Beautiful
You can see the wood grain though the black. Out of control. The tone is so loud and clear with unbelievable sustain. The workmanship is impeccable. Martin is doing it with this one. Expensive but if can do it
Work of art!
Just received my Johnny Cash guitar today, and as usual Sweetwater went above and beyond my expectations. Love this guitar! Amazing sound, great action, and beautiful craftsmanship.
Johnny Cash 35
This is not your average guitar. Playability is fantastic, all the way up the neck. The sound spectrum is exceptional across the the strings, booming bass, sweet midrange and upper rang is rally sweet. I find that this is by far the best guitar I have ever touched!
The Martin D-35 Johnny Cash: in a league all it's own.
Make no mistake---this guitar is not a stock D35 and will blow you away with it's awesome tone. I think the combination of the forward-shifted bracing, the Engelmann Spruce top and tall interior braces on the back lend to it's sweet tone---not harsh or punchy, but smooth as butter…sure, the black finish will show every scratch, but this guitar is all about tone, and it's got it…to the 'Tens'! It's very expensive, but once you've played it,
your ears will understand.
